IPhoto '11 - steps after FileSalvage?

Using my old '07 iMac, I was keeping my iPhoto library on a 1 TB external HD because it too big for my iMac.  I also had it saved to another HD.  I wasn't backing up my external HD with Time Machine (mistake #1).  Bought a '12 iMac and decided to update the library on the second HD because it had not been updated in about a year.  Made a mistake and deleted the old library and the new library - basically, I thought that seeing the thumbnail images in iPhoto meant I saw that the originals were still there, so I deleted (mistake #2).
I immediately bought and downloaded FileSalvage, and ran "undelete" on both external hard drives.  Now I have 2 folders - undeleted files from each external hard drive.  The pictures have been recoverd from both, but it also undeleted every single jpeg, tiff, etc. file found on both external hard drives.
Questions -
I want to import them into iPhoto '11 on my new iMac.  When I start up iPhoto and select import into iPhoto, do the original files move into the iPhoto library or do they stay in the undelete folder?  I want to import into iPhoto and then delete the 2 undeleted folders when finished, if possible.
I had 17,000 pictures.  Now there are like 95,000 files in one undeleted folder's jpeg folder alone.  I'm assuming they are thumbnails from photos and videos, deleted jpegs from various programs, etc.  Is there an efficent way to import the original pictures only?  Do I need to view every single jpeg to determine if it's an original or thumbnail, or can I set iPhoto to import only over a certain file size?  I'd like to just import the originals, and I assume iPhoto would rebuild the thumbnails.
I'm assuming when I import from both folders into iPhoto, there will be a lot of duplicates.  FileSalvage saved each jpeg by number (0001.jpeg, etc.).  I don't see any picture data in the "show info" folder, and the creation date is today instead of the picture date.  Is there a way to remove the duplicates?  I have Duplicate Annihilator, but I think that program removes duplicates by picture data (date, time, camera, etc.), which doesn't appear in the show info.
Did I lose all the exif, date taken, etc. data when I imported, and is this recoverable in iPhoto?
Going forward, I'll be keeping the library on the iMac HD so Time Machine can recover it, I'm keeping a duplicate on another HD, and I'm looking into cloud storage.
Thanks!

I'm confused, because LarryHN said that the exif data is in the jpeg file, but you're saying I can't recover it.  Does that mean that iPhoto would have recovered it if it could, but FileSalvage somehow didn't recover it, so iPhoto looked for it but couldn't find anything to attach to the photo?
Yes you are confused
The EXIF date is part of the original JPEG created by your camera
No - the EXIF data is part of the original photo and was placed there by your camera
It is not severate data and can not be recovered seperate from the JPG - if FIle Salvage recovered an original JPEG as created by your camera then teh EXIF data is part of the file exactly as I said several times
There is no "recovering EXIF data" and no "iPhoto attaching it to photos" - it is a part of the p[hoto and is [placed there by the camera
Would rebuilding the library after importing help?
No - rebuilding only repairs links in intact libraries that have lost links due to errors - it does not relink photos that have changed name or location - it does not create anything - it does not attach anything
I still have these thumbnails in iPhoto where I get the black triangle when I click on them.  I tried rebuilding the thumbnails in iPhoto but I still get those exclamation points.
You should not be importing anythin into a corrupt library - you have to start over with the recovered photos and import them into an freash, clean, new iPhoto library - yours is trashed and can not be used
Right now I'm not sure what's an actual picture in my iPhoto library and what is a thumbnail with no attached picture
The photos that come up with the ! are the ones with missing originals
.  I must have an old file in iPhoto that contains thumbnails to pictures that don't exist or aren't linked?
Do you? Only you know what you have - if you depress the option key and launch iPhoto what do you see in the select library window?
While this thread rambles around and it difficult to follow, I believe that you have failed to create a new library and start importing recovered photos into it - that is what has to happen

+ Photos remain in wrong iPhoto list even after being moved?+
    +Posted: 29-Jan-2009 16:56 +
    Hi,
+Has anyone else had this problem? Any workarounds?+
+I have a number of pictures that just show up in the wrong place in Places' list view, but I cannot seem to move them. For example, a photo will show up as being in state X in city Y when it was actually taken at a "Place" in state A, city B. So I click on the photo, hit command-i, type in the name of a place in A/B, and hit done. (Pressing command-i again shows the new name and a pin in the correct place.) However, the photo still shows up when I select state X and city Y from the places browser. This persists even after restarting iPhoto.+
    +Any ideas?+

+Does not seem to be an issue with the latest version of iPhoto.+
Im not sure why this has been closed as it is an issue for me as well,
eg, Trafalgar Square photos appear in the London Eye pushpin, but when checking the photos individually they are correct.
I am fully up to date with my software and this issue only appears to have raised itself on the latest version of iphoto (8.1 (415))
Removing the locations and re-adding them does not fix the issue you just end up with the same result or a different mixture of incorrect pictures in the push pins.

The best way to get assistance on the forum is to provide a clear and detailed description of the problem and report any steps you've already taken to solve the issue and anything that resulted therefrom.
Im not sure why this has been closed as it is an issue for me as well,
It's been closed because the User who had this issue found a solution. Only the person who creates the thread can close it. This person had no idea you even existed, let alone that you might have a similar issue. I'm sure if he had he'd have left it open, just waiting for you to come along.
Is not a resolving answer to the issue and appears to be a very narrow minded approach to resolving issues!
Let's see. Someone has an issue. They create a thread on the forum. They find a solution. They mark the thread as answered. This is narrow minded?

My iPhoto hangs right after it opens - i can open it remotely but not on my main machine

Before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. With information, s/he may be able to get your issue resolved sooner.

problem updating to iphoto 9.6 after upgrading to Yoesmite  I am getting the following message when I try top date iPhoto This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or canc

"This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." ?
This error message will appear erraneously, if you skipped the update to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1 and went straight from an earlier MacOS X version to Yosemite, without first updating to iPhoto 9.5.1 and associating iPhoto to your AppleID.
Try first to buy iPhoto with your AppleID instead of updating. Delete iPhoto from Applications, but don't empty the Trash, then go to the main page of the App Store and search for iPhoto. If you are lucky, it will show as free and you can buy it directly.
If iPhoto  is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support: Ask for a redemption code. You will need to provide a prove of purchase for your mac with iPhoto preinstalled.

  • My iPhoto keeps crashing after installing the latest update, can't do anything!

My iPhoto keeps crashing after installing the latest update, can't do anything! It used to crash when importing but now I'm at the point where I open the software and after 2 seconds it crashes (nothing connected either). What to do? Can't access any photos

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you can create a new library and import some test photos then the problem lies with your original library.
If that's the case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If iPhoto crashes while trying to create a new library then try this:
Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that fails to help a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iPhoto from the disk it came on originally and apply all relavant updaters.
P.S.  If you're still running Tiger, 10.4.6, then the above may not apply.  If you're running a newer system you should update your profile so we have a better idea of where you're at.

what type of file format should be save and what to do after that?

In the early days of digital video editing, an export render could take hours!  Not many applications are as hard on system resources as video editing, and rendering the final edit is probably the most system intense action of all.

  • Sync Send step after transformation step in BPM

    Hi Gurus,
I have an interface where I am loading the data into an Oracle database and getting the response back (insertcount) from the database. Based on the response, I have to execute a stored procedure in another sync send step.
I am doing perfectly alright until the transformation step. The sync send step after this step has the following entries.
    Sync interface: MI_LG_SP_INPUT_ABS
    Request Message: sp_lg_rec
    Response Message: sp_lg_snd
While doing 'check(F7)', I am getting the following error.
    <b>Interface MI_LG_SP_INPUT_ABS for element sp_lg_poc_step2 is not abstract/asynchronous</b>
The request message for this sync send step is the target message of the transformation step.
This error is bugging me since 2 days. Please help me with this.
    Thanks
    Kalyan

    Sravya,
I know what I did now. For my send sync interface which is MI_LG_SP_INPUT_ABS, I have unnecessarily created a container element and which caused this problem. From your post, I rechecked it and found that I don't need a container element for my abs/sync interface as I already have container elements for request and response which are abs/asynch.
I gave you full points, thinking that you will come for my rescue in the future (just kidding!!!).
    Thanks again,
    Kalyan

Same issue here both with my iphone 5S as well as my iPad2. THe sync to my macbook air does not complete and it shows a large overcapacity level when connected, but once I disconnect there is plenty of room (4 GB) available, not a 20 GB overage.

  • Iphoto 6 crashes after opening and loading any library.

iphoto 6 crashes after launching and loading the iphoto library. It just quits and says "The application iPhoto quit unexpectedly". The same library will open on another users account. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling iphoto three times. I have repaired permissions. I have deleted preference files. I have even reinstalled the 10.4.5 os x combo update.
iphoto 6 loads under another users account, and will load any library, but will not load any library in a particular (administrators) user account.
I have been looking through the Discussion thread for 3 hours and have not been able to find a solution to the problem.
I can post a crash report, if it will help any.
I am running iphoto 6.0.2 and os x 10.4.5 with the latest security update. I have a powerbook 1.33 60G hard drive and 768 mb of ram.
    Powerbook 1.33g 12"   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Moving the iphoto library folder to the desktop and creating a new library yields the same crash as with any library. It will open iphoto and then it quits.
Also, here is the crash log. I am not sure what part you need to help you out, so here is the whole thing.

  • Post installation steps after SAP BW system copy

    Hi!
I am about to do post processsing steps after system copy of SAP BW system.
    1) One of the steps is to delete all entries from tables DBSTATHORA, DBSTAIHORA, DBSTATIORA,
    DBSTATTORA.
Question: what is the way to do this?
    2) During the installation I received the error within import ABAP step.
(IMP) INFO: import of D010TAB completed (4477754 rows) #20090505133631
    DbSl Trace: Error 12801 in exec_immediate() from oci_execute_stmt(), orpc=0
DbSl Trace: ORA-12801 occurred when executing SQL stmt (parse error offset=0)
    (DB) ERROR: DDL statement failed

    error message returned by DbSl:

ORA-01659: unable to allocate MINEXTENTS beyond 34 in tablespace PSAPSR3700
    (DB) INFO: disconnected from DB
As solution I changed the the following lines within D010TAB.TSK:
    from D010TAB~ 0 C err to D010TAB~0 C ign and
    from D010TAB1  C err to D010TAB1 C ign
    Question:
how to create index manually after system copy?

    Simply run
    TRUNCATE TABLE <table_name>;
    for each of those tables.
Make sure to either logon as SAP<SID> or provide the owner of the tables with the statement.

The problem here was the large INITIAL size clause.
If there is enough freespace at all in the tablespace this should work:
    CREATE UNIQUE INDEX "D010TAB~0" ON "D010TAB" ( "MASTER", "TABNAME" ) TABLESPACE PSAPSR3700 NOLOGGING COMPUTE STATISTICS PARALLEL;
If I'm not wrong, the second index is just vice versa:
    CREATE UNIQUE INDEX "D010TAB~1" ON "D010TAB" (  "TABNAME", "MASTER" ) TABLESPACE PSAPSR3700 NOLOGGING COMPUTE STATISTICS PARALLEL;
In general it is really not a good idea to skip the creation of unique indexes...
    regards,
    Lars

  • Best Practice on Post Steps after 11.2.0.2.4 ORACLE RAC installation

I finished RAC 11.2.0.2 installation and patched it to 11.2.0.2.4. The database is also created.
The nodes are Linux redhat and storages are on ASM.
Is there any good article or link regarding the best practice of post steps after installation?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I also want to know what kind of monitoring scripts I can use to setup as cron jobs to monitor or detect any failure or problems?
    To monitor Cluster (OS Level):
I suggest you use a powerful tool "CHM" that already comes with product Grid Infrastructure.
What do you do to configure? Nothing ... Just use.
Cluster Health Monitor (CHM) FAQ [ID 1328466.1]
    See this example:

    To monitor Database:
PERFORMANCE TUNING USING ADVISORS AND MANAGEABILITY FEATURES: AWR, ASH, and ADDM and Sql Tuning Advisor. [ID 276103.1]
The purpose of this article is to illustrate how to use the new 10g manageability features to diagnose
and resolve performance problems in the Oracle Database.
Oracle10g has powerful tools to help the DBA identify and resolve performance issues
without the hassle of analyzing complex statistical data and extensive reports.
    Hope this help,
