IPhoto '11 stopped working

My Mac was delivered with iLife 11 installed, but did not include iDVD.  I purchased and installed an iLife '11 disk specifically to get iDVD but after the install, iPhoto won't open.  I get an error message stating that iPhoto is damaged or incomplete.  Has anyone else run into this?  What is the solution?

Reinstall
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

iPhoto just stopped working. It loads pictures, but then goes into rainbow wheel forever. Then I try to force quit it, and then the whole Mac hangs up (had to power cycle it to get it back). I am using OS 10.5.8, and when I run software update, it assures me I have up to date software. I have not added any photos since the last time I used it, probably less than a month ago. What gives?

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • My iPhoto suddenly stopped working

my iPhoto suddently stopped working.  it won't launch when i plug in my iphone, and it open when i click on it.  menu bar does appear, though.

  • Manage My Places/Google Search in iPhoto has stopped working.  I have always had my Look Up Places Preference set to Never.  Any ideas?

I am running iPhoto 09 v8.1.2 and w/c 18th Nov Manage My Places/Google Search stopped working.  I have always Managed My Places with my Look Up Places Preference set to Never.  I have not updated any software in the past week.  Any ideas?

That's not my experience Larry, although I'm not an expert.  It was one of your earlier responses to someone else that made me check this preference out.  However, I've set it to automatically and google search in Manage My Places doesn't work and the "find on map" option on the photo information tab doesn't work.
What does works with it set to automatically is if I enter "Merida, Mexico" in the photo place it will list a number of towns called Merida and I can select the Mexican one.  If I enter "Calle 49, Merida, Mexico" it doesn't list anything but it does offer the "find on map" option.  If I select this it loops.
I've checked my software updates and nothing on my Mac has changed in the time between this working and ceasing to work.  I'm just trying to establish if anyone else has experienced difficulty with the google search under manage my places in iPhoto recently.

  • Sync from iPhoto just stopped working

Hi, both of my apple tv's stopped syncing any further content updates, leaving a little triangle with an exclamation mark next to them in iTunes. Existing content was still there though.
Further investigation showed that if I turn off syncing of photos (from iPhoto), the triangle/exclamation mark goes away and syncing resumes. Photos were set to sync first, btw.
I haven't updated my photos in iPhoto recently, and it doesn't seem correlated with any updates to software (last update was 24th Sept) for iTunes 7.4.2
It seems like iTunes is having problems digesting the iPhoto collection if I had to guess, but it seems to be showing the albums etc just fine for selection in the Apple TV sync tab(s).
Any thoughts? Any way to find out why it's showing the little triangle (it's clearly figured out there's a problem but isn't reporting what it is)?
    cheers
    I'm using iPhoto 6.0.6

ahah! I have the answer. First to answer your questions:
    1. Firewall is off
    2. Hadn't got that far yet
    3. Is there an automated way to do this? I saw this mentioned in the forums whilst researching this issue, but in iPhoto 6.0.6 I see no facility other than to go in and do this by hand. Is it an option in later iPhotos?
And so to the answer. I looked for files in my iPhoto library modified in the last week and tried removing them one at a time and putting back when iPhoto didn't work. Turns out if I remove the iPod Photo Cache directory, my Apple TV is fine and dandy once again syncing photos.
I assume iTunes pre-prepares the photos at the correct resolution for the Apple TV (and for iPods, iPhone etc) in here and somehow this must have become messed up. Not sure how that happened.
Ah well, one to try if anyone else suffers a similar issue.
    cheers

  • Cant find i i life after installing it and iphoto has stopped working

cant find i i life after installing it and iphoto has stopped working

If it is a new Mac then iLife came preinstalled on it
As to searching for iLife - it is not an application - it is a suite of five applications - iPhoto - iMovie - IDVD - iWeb - Garage Band  --  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC623Z/A/iLife-11?fnode=NDQ5MDg0MA&mco=MjA4Nzk 4OTQ
Do you have these five applications in your applications folder?
what happens when you launch them?

  • Iphoto has stopped working.Help me with any possible ideas please..

I have a 9.1.3 version of iphoto'11 on macbook pro with Mac OS X 10.6.6. I can get the application to open but it does not upload and keeps showing the circular 'in process' sign on the iphoto page continuously. Please

You might consider updating the app and your OS. The latest version of 10.6 is 10.6.8 and the latest version of iPhoto that will run on that is 9.2.3
    Other than that:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhotos movies stopped working after installing OSX mountain lion

    Hi,
I have updated my operating system on my iMac to OSX Mountain Lion and my movies in iPhoto won't play. Any ideas on how to fix this.

Have you upgraded iPhoto and the other iLife App's that you use as well...?
If not, go to > Apple - iLife - Do more with photos, movies, and music
As a last resort, see > iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library

  • My iphoto has stopped working for no reason

I did a clean up on my macbook. Some reason, it affected iphoto, but I did not delete anything that was involving with iphoto! I have tried every cd I have got to set it up again, but no use When I open iphoto, a white wheel whose lines are going round round and round, as it is loading up, but no use again! It has all of my pictures in it..my photos are on the computer thankfully!
    Any suggestions?
    Much appreciated

A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure.

  • Iphoto stops working with mavricks

Iphoto has stopped working since i downloaded mavericks can anyone suggest a solution.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Do you remember which iPhoto version you had? iPhoto 9.2.3 and older don't work in OS X Mavericks. If you don't remember it, open a Finder window, select Applications in the sidebar, press the Control key and click iPhoto, and choose "Get Info". Then, tell me what you see next to "Version".
If it's 8.x.x or older, open the Mac App Store and purchase iPhoto. If it's 9.x.x, open the Mac App Store, go to Updates tab and download iPhoto 9.5 free of charge

  • IPhoto Paste not working

The paste function on my iPhoto has stopped working. The paste function works on the rest of my computer but when I try to copy and paste within iPhoto it just doesn't want to work. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

I have been using iPhoto for about six years and have always used the cut/copy paste function to move photos between events. It has just suddnley stopped working out of no where.
I appreciate the way you have suggested but it seems a little more work and complication then a simple copy/paste
    Thanks,
    Sarina.

"Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable"
    Offered solution doesn't work:
Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.
I have already copied my photographs to the a library manager but when I tried to reuse iphoto and import the photos back into iphoto, it would not let me.
I can't download photographs from my iphone or my digital camera.
Any ideas on how I can solve this problem?
There is a possibility that when I went to update applications that I started to install Mavericks which I then interrupted and cancelled. I am not definite that this caused this problem but it was at about the same time as when this problem started.
    Many thanks,
    Ed

You can't "copy" your photos to the "library manager", there is just no way to any such thing.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.

  • On iphoto my stop import is not working and the force quit does not work either

please help - the stop import and force quit on iphoto both not working. thx!

This happened to me today on the iPad; I put in the password 4 or 5 times. I began to think my account had been hacked. I tried again on my iPhone and it worked first time. Then I tried again on the iPad and same thing—worked first time. Maybe just a temporary glitch in the server?

  • IPhoto stopped working after upgrading to 9.3

I upgraded to iPhoto 9.3 and iPhoto stopped working.  So I dragged it to the trash and went to reinstall from the original iLife'11. The reinstall finished normally, but when I tried to open iPhoto it instructed me to run Software Update.  I did and Software Update informed me all of my software was up tp date.  Again I tried to start iPhoto with the same result - run Software Update. Anyone have a suggestion?

download and install the 9.1 update
