IPhoto '11- super drive failed.  It won't burn to disc.

iPhoto '11 won't burn to disc...says super drive failed.  It goes through preparing to burn and then, immediately shows "finished" and spits out the disc.  I had just finished burning another successfully.  I talked with apple and we repaired permissions for iPhoto.  It worked fine during the test, but didn't after that.
Thanks for any help.
Sheila

Yes.  Successfully burned to a disc.  Not only is it doing that from the top tool bar menu, but the information it shows at the bottom of the screen (MG for the burn and how full the disc is) is not accurate.  The iPhoto info shows 3.7 MG for the pictures selected, but the burn info at the bottom shows some other amount and says not enough space on the disc.  And I'm using a 4.7MG DVD!  So, now, I'm just making a burn file on my desktop and burning the disc from there.  It works fine.  However, I'd still like my iPhoto program to be working the way it's supposed to, so I can use it that way.

  • Super drive failed

I am trying to burn my photos to a DVD from my mac book 10.8.5 When it starts to burn the disk is ejected and the message "burn failed Super drive failed didn't respond properly" Does anyone know what could be wrong or what I can do to fix this?
I am trying to take some photos off the computer and store them maybe there is a better way to do this.....

First you might try a different brand of disc, sometimes macs can be picky about DVDs.
You also might try resetting the PRAM
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Finally if your SuperDrive  has indeed failed, mine did, you could either use an external hard drive to move your photos to or purchase an inexpensive USB DVD burner, par tally any brand will work.

  • The burn to the PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K06A drive failed. Verifying the burned

I am trying to burn an album from iPhoto '09 and I receive the following error message:
The burn to the PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K06A drive failed. Verifying the burned data failed.
I have attempted 3 different times using the same media that worked prior to my upgrade to Snow Leopard. Prior to the upgrade I didn't have any problems.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Same for me here...no luck with TDK DL DVD +R. Seems that this drive is extremely picky with DL supports (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1181990).

  • Cd/dvd drive won't burn a disc,although it will read a cd

i have a compaq cq62 with windows 7 home premium with the cd/dvd drive won't burn a disc, although it will read a cd

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
Check if the drive will now burn a disc.
If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it is now able to burn a disc.

  • Mac Book Air Super Drive fails to respond

The external Super Drive stopped responding today. I have tried the drive on another computer and that one doesn't see the drive either. Is there a way to manually eject a disk that is in this drive?

Have a look and see if the drive is appearing in the system profiler as a USB device. My original superdrive was faulty out the box, and while it was showing up in the system profiler, it wasn't mounting, nor visible in the filesystem, nevermind in the finder window.
The drive would accept a disk, and I could hear it spin up, but nothing happened, and the eject button didn't work.
If I remember correctly, I found restarting the macbook with the drive attached forced it to eject the disk.
I took the superdrive into my local Apple store (Cambridge, UK), and they replaced it there and then.
    Hope this helps.

  • New Super Drive in iMac won't read DVD-R Data discs from windows machine.

Bought iMac 2.4 GHz 10/2007, the drive failed to burn DVD's about %70 of the time. Reading was very slow. Took to Apple Store in January, drive replaced. New drive burns and reads, except for TDK DVD-R data discs from my Sony Vaio (movies work). For these it gives alert "Blank DVD." When opened in finder it identifies media as a CD.
Someone had this problem earlier in the forum. No answer was posted. My Dell reads the dics fine. Stranger still, I hooked up an external LaCie 1394 DVD-R/RW+CD to the iMac to read the discs and got the same error. I hooked the same drive to my Dell and it read the same disc fine. Also, Dynex DVD+R and CD's work fine.
It does not seem to be a straight hardware issue. More like a device driver problem maybe?
Phone support suggested transferring all my data to DVD+R dics, but that is kind of a pain. Might upgrade to OS 10.5 help? Thanks

No suggestion but maybe some sharing of your misery. I bought a new 24" iMac 2.8 ghz on 2/24. Two hours after purchase, I put a DVD in the slot and nothing. Twenty five minutes with tech support, trying several different options to eject the disk, got me nowhere. They told me I would have to bring the machine in for repair. I did that, and magically, the DVD player is recognized when he (at the Apple store) boots the machine and it ejects the disk. He said the machine was fine. I said that it wasn't if I had to take the computer for a ride in my truck every time the optical drive doesn't work.
I'm waiting for a diagnostic to be run but I have my doubts about support in this area. I believe that Apple will say that they found nothing wrong and it's user error (not hardly, but it's probably easier than fixing the bug with the optical drives). This is my first ride with a Mac and I expected it to be wonderful. It's not a very smooth ride so far.

  • Macbook Pro Super Drive Loud Whirring Sound during Burn and Verify

    Hi there!
I am using Toast 7 and when I burn DVD's I have noticed that the Super Drive gets a very loud whirring sound that seems to get louder and softer during the first 2 minutes of burning and then during the first 2 minutes of verifying; then it's quiet as a mouse. It's very unnerving; the discs seem fine. Anyone know if this is normal before I head to the Apple Store?

They are kind of noisy drives. Lots more head movement early since they burn center out and less so as they get to the edges since each pass covers a lot more ground. I use it is infrequently as I can becuase it is so slow. A $100 external LaCie drive will pay for itself by burning at 16X instead of about 4.

  • Compare DVD-R burn quality by internal Super Drive to External DVD-R burner

Has anyone compared the video 'quality' of a DVD-R burned using the internal Super Drive
on my MacBook Pro (Windows 8.1 64 bit) to the same DVD-R burned using a standalone
Sony DVD-R Recorder / player?  One would think the quality would be slightly better using
a standard external DVD-R disc burner.

I see no difference in the video quality.  Although I use a different external burner than your brand.  It's possible some external burners are better than the optical drives on a MacBook Pro or vice versa.

  • Movie clips in iDVD won't burn to disc image or a DVD

I created an iDVD project with a slide show created in iPhoto and some movie clips I took with a digital camera that were also in iPhoto. It works great in iDVD preview. When I burn a disc image or a DVD, the movie clips don't play while the slideshow is fine. There is also the clue in the menu of the project (only on the disc image or DVD, not the iDVD preview) that the printing of the names of the movie clips is clearly lighter than the name of the slideshow. During the burning to disc or DVD, one can see the movie clips supposedly being encoded and no error messages occur. This is a birthday present. Help, please.

It's become a moot point. It turns out that while I could navigate with the mouse with respect to the slide show (on both the disc image and the DVD I burned), I had to use the arrows and enter key to navigate and activate the movie clips. Once I figured out to use the arrow keys/enter key rather than the mouse, everything worked okay. Thanks for trying to help me!

  • My iTunes won't burn a disc.

It says, the attempt to burn disc failed. An unknown error (-3) has occurred. How do I burn a disc?

same problem. Im using itunes version 10.6.3, I converted wavs burnt from cd, to mp3 using itunes, these were  NOT PURCHASED from itunes, and when I try to burn an mp3 cd using the new mp3 files, they convert to wavs before my eyes every time i create a new playlist of the mp3. The mp3 revert to wav within less than 30 seconds. As if itunes is saying, let me help, I substitute the higher quality 1411 wav files for you. And of course, now they wont burn to mp3, because "they must be converted to mp3 first" before burning.
But every list of the mp3 version of the files keeps reverting to 1411 wav files?
    WHats going on? Thanks

  • Black Macbook, super drive fail = sad day. need advice, thanks

    Hi there,
I have recently confirmed with 90% certainty that my superdrive has failed after 14 months (meaning no more warranty <sad />). I have tried burning CDs and DVDs. CDs burn fine, DVDs will not burn. they error out within seconds of starting the burn with an unknown error via disk util and finder, toast etc. i have reset PRAM, dusted unit, etc etc. the one thing i have not tried is different media. I do not suspect this to be issue as this unit has been able to use this media previously. I am not ruling this solution out, however to me it seems unlikely.
This brings me to my point. I am looking at replacement superdrives and they are a touch more than i wish to spend.
Will any slot load drive do the trick or does it have to be an apple specific part? New egg has slot load drives for as little as $40, superdrives range from 80-200 dependent on where you look.
    Thanks for the insight!

You need the 9.5mm height drive for the MacBook. You can get them for about $65 on eBay.

Thanks again for your help. It took me awhile to find a USB KB and Mouse. However they are both older Windows ones. I'd been trying earlier with a blutooth mouse and KB with no luck. I tried your suggestions with no luck so far. There still remains no change. The power light flashed at one point when I tried booting with the alt key and then turned off, but nothing else happened that was visible.
Thank you so much for your help so far. Any additional suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  • Blu-Ray player won't burn a disc. Error Code "0"

Hi all, haven't made the jump to CC so we are using CS6 for everything.
I just recently installed a SSD and deleted/fresh install of the CS6 suite onto the newly wiped internal HD. Everything works perfect, except Encore.
Encore is refusing to burn to a DVD. I have been using CS6 since it went public and I have never once had this issue for a Blu-Ray or a DVD. Now, it won't even recognize that a disc is in the burner. It keeps saying to put in a DVD or a Blu-Ray DVD, hit OK etc. I do this, repeatedly, to no avail. Now I have tried creating a Blu-Ray Image which works perfectly fine. However I couldn't get that Image to burn succesfully to a blu-ray. Now it burnt without an issue, (using windows default burner which may be the issue), but when put into the blu-ray player it is just a black image with no menus or anything.
Back to Encore, It will trans-code the files without incident, it's when it goes to the burning session it will not accept any disc I put in. This is for both a Blu-Ray and a regular DVD. I keep getting Error Code "0" or simply, "insert a blu ray or dvd media disc an hit OK". Occasionally I got "Adobe Encore Failed" and that is it. Not sure what to do. I've been trying to burn since this morning.
I gave in and bought Nero 2015 just now in the hopes I can burn the blu-ray image correctly. Do I have any other options as this needs to be done today as I have to be an event tomorrow.
    Thank you!
    Jason

Adding to that, I am not getting the message "The Device Is Not Ready" and you can hit Retry and endless number of times with no results. Or just cancel and then it says Building Failed. Thoughts?

  • IDVD won't burn a disc.

The "burn" cycyl of iDVD ejects the disc before the burn cycle is complete. There are two minutes left each time. I have tried burning projects that have burned successfully in the past, with the same result. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.

DID YOU TRY (or Please DO)
    • Save as a DiskImage
    • test play this with Apple DVD-tool
    • then burn this .img file to a DVD - BY USING - Apple Disk Util tool
This way we find out where in the process it goes wrong.
