when I click to 'confirm additional faces', most images are duplicated.
iPhoto '11 using 'Faces' - when I click to 'confirm additional faces', most images are duplicated.  It has become a hassle.  Even after confirming and not confirming images, some may still have duplicates pop up again but not all.  How does this get resollved?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto doesn't show most of the Faces in the Confirm Additional Faces dialogue

The latest (2013) version of iPhoto is doing strange things when tagging Faces.
I have several dozen people identified in Faces but with the new version (on Mavericks), when I go to the Faces screen the pictures for each person have been replaced with black squares.
When I double-click to add more Faces tags, then click on the Confirm Additional Faces dialogue, most of the pictures that are proposed for tagging are also shown as black squares. A few of the images will actually show the faces that iPhoto has identified, but most of them are black squares and therefore rather impossible to tag!
Hopefully Apple will pick up on this bug and fix it ASAP. Thanks!

    Hi Dazza9999,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you're only seeing black squares in Faces after upgrading, I suggest using the Photo Library First Aid menu to repair or rebuild your iPhoto library.
Before troubleshooting, it is a very good idea to back up your iPhoto library.
    Important:
You should back up your existing iPhoto Library before using the rebuild feature. A backup allows you to restore the iPhoto Library if anything unexpected happens during the rebuild that prevents the library from rebuilding correctly.
Before performing a rebuild, you should install any iPhoto updates by using Software Update. If a software update resolves your issue, then you don't need to rebuild.
See this article for the steps to back up your computer with Time Machine:
Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
Once your iPhoto library is backed up, follow these steps to use iPhoto Library First Aid:
    To rebuild the iPhoto library:
Quit iPhoto if it is open.
Hold down the Command and Option keys on the keyboard.
    Open iPhoto.
Keep the keys held down until you are prompted to rebuild the library.
A dialog will appear with rebuild options. Select the options you want to use.
Try each step in order, testing to see if the issue is resolved between each step.
See the full article for more details:

I can see my thumbnails for my events in iphoto, but when I click to open the folder, no photos show up. However, when I hover over the thumbnail, it shows the flicker of images
that should be inside the folder, as well as # of images in each folder. It also occasionally says the following when I try to even open iphoto:  "Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete." So, I am scared to hit "upgrade" for fear I will never recover any of the images as the wording in this quote seems odd. The photos are not in the trash. Did I lose them all? Do you know if/how I can retrieve them?

    iPhoto 08?
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Seeing multiple iPhoto libraries when I click on the iPhoto icon in the dock?

I can't figure out why I am seeing multiple iPhoto libraries when I click on the iPhoto icon in my dock.  I am running Lion on an early 2008 MacBook Pro (4 GB RAM), and when I click and hold on the iPhoto icon in the dock, it brings up a dialog box.  From top to bottom, this is what I see:
    iPhoto Library
    iPhoto LIbrary
    iPhoto Library
    Options
    Show Recents
    Open
I can't figure out why it shows three iPhoto libraries when I only have one on my computer.  I've tried deleting the icon from the dock and then putting it back in the dock, but it still shows three libraries for some reason.  If I search for iPhoto in spotlight search or in finder, it only shows one iPhoto (in the applications folder).  Any help on how to resolve this weird issue would be much appreciated!

I have the same issue.  I see four iPhoto libraries when I right click on the iPhoto icon in the dock, but I only actually have two libraries.  The other two simply do not exist on my computer.  And when I click on the libraries that do not exist, obviously nothing happens.  In the image, only the bottom two libraries are actual photo libraries.  The top two do not exist.
I have relaunched Finder, restarted the computer, and even restored the entire computer from my Time Machine backup.  Nothing changes.  No matter what I try, the non existent iPhoto libraries continue to be present when I right click the iPhoto icon in the dock.  BTW, there are only two iPhoto libraries in the pictures folder.
This is very frustrating and annoying.

  • I can no longer open iphoto. When I click on iphot the screen appears and the icon in the centre of the screen continues to rotate . No library  or other item appears on the left.

I am no longer able to access iphoto. When I click on the icon. The screen opens but remains dark with the spinning icon continuing indefinately. In the light panel on the left hand side there is no list of albums or the library.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2

  • Mark, flag or find a picture previously found in 'Confirm Additional Faces'

    iPhoto 11 (9.2.3)
I came across this issue yesterday and it just seems another case of No, there is no way to do this, Mac making thinkgs difficult again.
Often when going through photos in the 'Confirm Additional Faces' windows, you come across a Face that is nto a face but a piece of somethign else comepletely, like a bush, or what ever, that the algorithim picks up as a face.
OK, so this happens, but how do you locate that image again to delet that 'Face ' Find?
I thought I could Flag the photo..but no 'Flagging' is greyed out in that Window
Can't Rate it or edit it either.  Going to the menu bar and selecting Phots | Edit, just defaults to editing the first photo in the Faces section.
The only way seem to be to write down the 'wrong' image names and then search for them in the search box...
but that is made difficult to as there is no option to search just by file name, so yo end up with often hundred of phots with the same or similar file name, depending on how you have file namin set up on the camera, or words in the meta data etc
No need for replies telling me to submit feedback, already none that
    Many thanks
    Neil

Neil, it is best to get rid of the "non-faces" the moment you spot them first:
When browsing the results of "Find additonal Faces" like this, click the cross in the upper left corner to get rid of the unwanted face. It will not be shown again.
You select this mode by pressing the "Find Faces" button in "Faces" view.

  • I tried to sync music from iTunes to my iPhone and when I click on "on this phone" the songs are there, but they are greyed out and have a circle in front of them.  I can not click on those songs and when I eject the phone they are not on the phone.

I tried to sync music from iTunes to my iPhone and when I click on "on this phone" the songs are there, but they are greyed out and have a circle in front of them.  I can not click on those songs, delete or anything and when I eject the phone they are not on the phone.  I tried to re-add the songs and it says it can't add songs because they've already been added.  So HOW can I get the songs to actually ADD to my phone to where I can listen to them?  It's like they're stuck in Sync limbo or something!  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem. I have just tried this. Unplug iphone > open itunes > delete all music from itunes library > close itunes > re-open itunes > add music from original folder > plug in iphone > select songs > press sync > unplug iphone using eject button onscreen > checked phone .... still nothing in music folder on phone. On itunes the "On this iphone" tab the songs remain there but greyed out.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
That's because OS X Lion is a paid upgrade. The most recent OS X version is Mountain Lion, so I recommend you to upgrade to this version.
First, make sure that your Mac is supported > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs If your Mac is supported, open App Store and purchase Mountain Lion. While Mountain Lion is downloading, you can make a backup of your files, so you won't lose them if the upgrade fails.
When the download finishes, the installer will show up, so follow the steps to upgrade OS X. It will upgrade OS X to 10.8.2, so you will be able to install iBooks Author and a lot of apps from the App Store. Check if your applications are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com

Iphoto gives message "no images were selected" when hit print button.  Yet the the images are clearly selected in the print window.  I've printed hundreds of images without a problem before.  Iphoto 6.0.6, MAC 10.5.8, Suggestions?

I have recently started having this problem in PSE8. The Adobe workaround
did work, but I don't fancy having to re register each time I use it.
What I have discovered is that it's nothing to do with the image metadata as it occurs before any image is opened.
It SEEMS to only occur if you use file/open with to open an image in the editor - IE start PSE with that command.
If you close elements down, and start it using programs/PSE/Elements (or your desktop shortcut) - the panorama feature magically works.
Each time I've opened the editor 'automatically' using image/open with, it seems to create the problem.
    Hope this helps

I'm using Preview with a MacBook Pro and MacOS 10.6.8. When adjusting sharpness in the Adjust Colour tool, images are not saved. Any hint? Thanks.

I too experienced the same issue.  Here are my details:
Recently I bought a 15” Macbook Pro and last night I tried to connect and use a Edirol FA/66 Firewire 400 connected outboard audio interface using a Firewire 400 to 800 adapter then connected to a Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt adapter since the MBP doesn’t have a native Firewire port.  What I observed is that the Edirol was not getting power from the bus nor did the MBP (running Yosemite) recognize the Edriol.  At first I thought there was a problem with the Edirol since I haven’t used it in a while but when I connected it to an older MBP that has a native Firewire port, it worked normally.  Is there a known issue with these sorts of external audio interfaces working properly with newer MBP running Yosemite?  I’m hoping that a software update will fix this issue.
