IPhoto 11 wont mount my camera ( Canon XTi )

I just upgraded iPhoto '09 to '11, applied the update to v9.1, launched it and viewed my library without problem. Then connected my Canon XTi and now my Macbook no longer sees my camera. Its not listed in the System Profiler under USB, iPhoto does not launch automatically, nor can I see it in Image Capture. I trashed the iPhoto pref/plist, rebooted. Still no detection of the camera. Stumped !!! Any ideas? Thanks in advance - Mike

Found my issue. Total coincidence it appears the mini usb cable I was using failed. I tried another and iPhoto popped right up. What are the chances of that?? Oh well......

  • Iphoto doesn't recognise camera (canon 400d)

    hi,
Trying to download photos from my parent's canon 400d to my macbook. they've lend it to me but i've not got the software disc and they live abroad - i thought the macbook would be able to connect to the camera for me to download the pictures regardless.
i can't see the canon in the finder either.
I'm a fairly new macbook user so there might be a simple reason for this - can you advise?
    thanks,
    oppers

i can't see the canon in the finder either.
Canon's don't show in the Finder. It's a "feature" of the brand.
Check the settings on the camera. There are two ways to interact with the computer: Mass Storage and PTP. Which ever the camera is set to, try the other one.
Alternatively, buy a cheap USB card reader. Pop the card from the camera into that. Problem solved.

  • IPhoto says "no items" on Canon SD750 though many pictures on Camera

I have a Canon SD750 from which i have imported thousands of photos in the past. I got back from a weekend with a bunch of new photos, and now when i hook up to my iMac to import, iPhoto '09 recognizes the camera as a device, but it says there are no items. I can see the items on the display of the camera while it is plugged in.
Is there any way to browse the camera's contents? I have thousands of photos on the card, many of which I have imported in the past, and its still only about half full.
    Any thoughts would be appeciated.
    Thanks,

I am concerned that maybe the card or camera is corrupted.
It probably is just the card - The card probably just needs to be re-formatted
Get a USB card reader (mine was about $13.00 at Radio Shack) and mount your card to the desktop and recover what you can (maybe all of the photos) then use the camera to reformat the card

Hello, I just successfully copied my iPhoto (v.9.5.1) library to my WD My Book external hard drive. Then I uploaded photos from my various cameras (Canon Powershot & Canon SLR) to the My Book iPhoto only. It seemed successful and I was able to move some around & organize my events - seeing the pictures and even sending them through the iPhoto send program. But today when I reopen the My Book iPhoto, many of my pictures are missing (mostly the ones from the Canon SLR). I see the newly made events, but they have 0 pictures! I have shut down, disconnected the drive, reconnected & restarted = same thing. Can anyone tell me how to recover these photos? (They are still on the cameras' memory cards, so all is not lost!)
    thank you!

andrea, don't work with your iPhoto libraries at all, until you have freed a considerable amount of disk space on your Mac. Each iPhoto crash due to lack of disk space can leave you iPhoto library corrupted, and you cannot run a library repair with only 7GB of space available.
First free space by moving large media files of your drive, and then continue to trouble shoot your library.
The WD My Book was properly formatted & partitioned into 1TB (a Super Duper backup of my whole MacBook Pro) & 2TB (the place I plan to house all my photos/videos & work from to be able to get them off the computer hard drive).
How are you planning to backup the partition with your media (videos, photos)? Do you have a second drive to back them up also?

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher

Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Xserve (Early 2009) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space

  • Is it possible to upload pictures from iPhoto to my digital camera?

Anybody know if it is possible to upload pics from iphoto to my digital camera? I have a Canon ixus.

Yes it is, but you'll need a USB Card Reader. Canon Cameras don't mount in the Finder. It's a "feature" of the brand. So, take the card from the camera and pop it into a USB Card Reader. Now it will appear on the Desktop like any disk. Then simply export the pics from iPhoto (File -> Export) and copy them to the Card.

  • How can I stop iPhoto from Mounting Iphone?

Every time I dock my iPhone, iPhoto automatically mounts the phone if photos are contained on it, and offers to import the photos into its library. This is rather maddening. I've searched a bit, but no luck. Any helpful hints welcome.

Launch the Image Capture application in your Applications folder.
At the menu bar, go to Image Capture > Preferences.
Under the General tab below Camera at When a camera is connected, open:, select No application and then OK.
iPhoto will not automatically launch when ANY digital camera is connected.
If you import the photos taken by the iPhone into iPhoto and then delete the photos from the iPhone when finished, iPhoto won't launch automatically - it launches automatically when the iPhone or any digital camera is connected to your computer that contains photos.
You can then transfer these photos to the iPhone in an iPhoto Album via the iTunes sync process. If you haven't imported these photos to iPhoto, you really want to or at least transfer them to your computer without deleting them from the Camera Roll on the iPhone if you like. If something goes wrong with your iPhone and these photos have not been transferred to your computer in some fashion, you run the risk of these photos being lost.

  • Iphoto wont recognize memory card to load pictures

all of a sudden iphoto wont recognize the memory card to import pictures. when you put card in reader iphoto launches but you dont see the card on the left hand side and it doesnt ask you to import the pictures. If you remove the card you get device removal error - then card appears on left and import button shows up but nothing happens when you push the button??
If you go to Finder the card is there and i can "select all" and drag them to iphoto. This is really strange - please help?

If your card shows up in the Finder then you can still import from inside iPhoto. Do File > Import to Library, then navigate to the camera card. You can preview the photos, select the ones you want to import, and import them to iPhoto. This is actually my preferred method, since it allows me to choose exactly which photos I want to upload from my camera.
Don't remove the card reader from the USB port until you have ejected it properly. You can do that from in the Finder. Click on the little triangle eject symbol next to the name of the card (below your HD icon). When the card disappears from the list it is properly ejected and you may safely disconnect the card reader.
I don't know why the card suddenly stopped appearing in the iPhoto Source List. One thing you can try is to use your camera to do a low-level format of the card. This has been known to improve a card's performance. The second thing you can try is to delete iPhoto's preference file. Close iPhoto. Use the Finder to navigate to Macintosh HD/ Users/ (your user name)/ Library/ Preferences/ com.apple.iPhoto.plist, then move that file to the trash. You'll have to reset iPhoto's preferences back to your liking after you launch it.

  • IPhoto won't recognize camera for new user

I recently set up a user account for my daughter with "Some Limits" selected. She has access to almost all apps, including iPhoto 4.03. When she connects our Canon PowerShot SD100 camera neither iPhoto nor Image Capture recognize it. When I'm logged in as an administrator the camera is recognized and works fine with both apps. The iPhoto Library is in the Hard Drive\Users\Shared folder. "Look for Shared Photos" and "Share Entire Library" preferences are selected in iPhoto in both my daughter's and my admin accounts. How can I get iPhoto to recognize the camera when my daughter is logged in?

  • Corrupted RAW photos in iPhoto 9.6 (Yosemite) from Canon 60D

Early 2008 iMac, 4GB RAM, Yosemite 10.10.1, iPhoto 9.56 (910.29), Canon 60D. Downloaded images/thumbnails from camera via cable, card reader or backup hard drive are partially to fully blacked out in iPhoto. This does not happen with cable down load to MacAir or on iMac with older Canon camera. Have formatted and changed memory card in camera, reinstalled Yosemite and iPhoto to no avail. I need iPhoto to work seamlessly with my camera the way it used to or find an alternative. No work arounds, please. I can do that. I'd like my system and software to work the way it's supposed to work. Thank you.

Which version of the RAW support do you have installed?
If the problem directly started after installing the latest RAW support, try reinstall the RAW support by downloading it from Apple's download page.
That helped in similar cases, e.g.: Re: Digital Camera Raw Compatibility 6.02 - Nikon D800
Make a backup of your system and try to downgrade the RAW support to version 6.01
To downgrade the RAW Support to the last version from before the last update try this:
To reinstall the 'RAW Compatibility Update' it is necessary to uninstall the currently installed raw support. Otherwise the installer will rightfully say, that you already have the latest version installed.
If your tests are showing that the problem happens also in a different user account, try this:
The RAW support files are installed in the System Library in the folder "/System/Library/CoreServices" Folder:
To open this folder, use the Finder's "Go" menu. Click the smiling Finder icon in the Dock to bring the Finder forward.
Then type the keyboard shortcut ⇧⌘G  (for "Finder > Go > Go to folder")  and copy and paste "/System/Library/CoreServices" into the text field. Click the "Go" button.
In the Finder window that will open, delete both the files "RawCamera.bundle" and "RawCameraSupport.bundle". You will have to enter your Administrator password. (don't empty the Trash, so you can put the files back, if need be)
Download the current RAW support update from Apple's Support Site:
Digital Camera RAW Compatibility 6.01 http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1777?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
In the Downloads folder you will find the disk image with the installer. Double click it to open and run and the installer.
    Then restart your Mac.

How do I mount the camera?

Thanks for the suggestions guys but neither worked.  Pudge, I was already part of the camera group.  Logging out and logging back in didn't fix it.  Interestingly, when I followed rayjgu3's suggestion I can't see any block device in /dev being created when I plug the camera in.  That suggests to me that this is the problem: no creation of a block device even though the device is recognised by the kernel (result from dmesg | tail).
I'm out of my depth here.  Why would the kernel recognise the device but fail to create a block device for it?

  • IPhoto does not recognise camera since synching with new iPhone

Ever since I've setup my new iPhone, Iphoto will not recognise my camera (Panasonic DMC-FX36); even though it recognises the iPhone camera OK. I've previously used the Panasonic camera without a problem and this has only started happening since synching the iPhone for the first time (not sure if this is coincidence or not).
I can't find anything in iPhoto that suggests any settings have changed... I've also tested an older camera (Canon iX series) and found the same problem.
Most frustrating as I have a heap of photo's of my newborn daughter and no way to share them... and a sinking feeling that I may lose them... any suggestions appreciated.
    Cheers

Thanks, I should have mentioned that I've tried Image Capture without luck...i.e. no device connected. The Camera actually asks for the prompt PC or Pictbridge... I've always selected PC, now the camera just freezes after I select the PC option... I have a card reader in my printer, but same problem, device not recognised.... Do you suspect it would be the camera or the iPhoto app?
