IPhoto 11 wont read Sony RAW (.arw)

Hi,
I have iPhoto 11 on my iMac & sony RAW files are fine. Today I just upgraded my older laptop (10.6.3) to iPhoto 11 too, but it wont open the same ARW files.
I checked the iPhoto version after upgrading & it says iPhoto '11 : 9.0 - I check for updates & it says i am up to date, but i am pretty sure iphoto 11 has some more updates after 9.0. Now I am stuck on how to get the support for these RAW files?

Update the System software on that mac. The latest version of of the 10.6 OS is 10.6.8. These system updates also contain Rw support for additional cameras.
The latest version of iPhoto 11 that will run on 10.6.8 is iPhoto 11 v9.2.3. Check on
http://support.apple.com/downloads/
for updates. You may need to update to 9.1 first before moving on to 9.2 and so on.
However, the Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D300 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D5000, the CR2 produced by a Canon 60D is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 7D and so on. So when you speak of a "Sony RAW" it doesn't mean anything, and each Sony has a different Raw.
Raw support is in the OS, not in iPhoto. So, be sure to check for the Camera Raw updates as well.

  • Import Sony RAW .arw files not automatic

I decided to take the plunge yesterday I downloaded the trial LR2 (now 2.1) and purchased Kelby's Lightroom 2 book. All my catalog from PSE6 imported without a hitch. That's over 12000 photos with about half of them Minolta (.mrw) and Sony RAW (.arw) files. Then I decided to import the shots I had just taken from a weekend photoshoot. I plugged in my CF into the card reader and started LR. When I clicked on the IMPORT button for my CF location all I got was the message "NO PHOTOS WERE FOUND TO IMPORT". I can import the files using the manual CHOOSE FILE option but I want it to work just like PSE with auto import. From what I understand that should be the case. After a Google search I found importing Sony RAW images (.arw) was an issue in LR1, but shouldn't Aobe have fixed it by now?? Just as an aside, if I'm having this issue with .arw files, when I import the RAW images from my Minolta 7Hi I wonder if I'll have the same issue.
Since its a trail version I'm not eligible for Adobe support, so there is no help coming from there.

  • IPhoto 09 not reading Nikon raw files (.nef) properly?

Hey everyone. Over the weekend I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard. Everything seemed to be working correctly until I started using iPhoto. Since the upgrade, I've noticed that photos that I imported from a Nikon D700 seem to look pixelated. I took it to a Genius Bar and the dude helping me was at a loss. He said to try and re-install Snow Leopard, which I did, and that didn't help. I went back and he upgraded me to iPhoto 09...also didn't help. He said he thinks that maybe it's Snow Leopard/iPhoto bug. He said that it's not reading the raw files correctly and seeing them as thumbnails. We looked at the photo info of a random photo, and even though it was a large 10MB file (indicative of raw format) its pixels were 160x160. Weird. Also of note, both Photoshop and Lightroom view and display all photos correctly.
If anyone has any suggestions or solutions on how to fix this it'd be much appreciated!!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
We looked at the photo info of a random photo, and even though it was a large 10MB file (indicative of raw format) its pixels were 160x160.
That means that what you're seeing is the jpeg Preview inside the NEF and not the actual file.
My guess is that the your Camera Raw bundle is damaged.
    Go to
    HD / System / Library / Core Services / RawCamera.bundle
What version of this do you have?

  • I have just started shooting Raw.  Why IPhoto doesn't read my RAW files?

    I have a Mac OS X - 10.6.8.  Processor 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.  Memory 4Go 1067 MHz DDR3.  IPhoto '09.
I have started shooting RAW and IPhoto doesn't read my the RAW files?

Lightroom 1.4.1 does not support native (NEF) files from the D700 because the camera didn't even exist when it was released. To get support you have two options: upgrade to Lr 2.x (paid for upgrade) or convert your NEF files to DNG.
DNG converter 5.4 can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/ (see right hand side of page)

  • Reads Sony Raw files?

Does Aperture 3 read and convert Sony raw files: arw2.3 format. The format produced by the RX 100 (II)?  Or must I use Adobe software for the conversion?
    Thanks.

See the list of supported cameras: Apple - Aperture - Technical Specifications - RAW Support
The RX 100 Mark 2 is not yet supported, sorry. You will have to wait for the raw support to be released.
You could try dng converter, while you are waiting, use the camera provided software, or shoot raw+jpeg and use the jpegs as original files, until the raw support will be released. You can add the raw originals later.

  • I just bought the canon 5d mark iii and my photoshop elements 10 wont read my raw files. I want to buy photoshop elements 13...is this compatible with my new camera?

I just bought the canon 5d mark iii and my photoshop elements 10 won't read my raw files. I want to buy photoshop elements 13 but want to make sure my camera is compatible with it first. Thank you for your help!

Photoshop elements 10 should be able to open those files if you update to camera raw 6.7
Which operating system are you using?
    windows
Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Windows : Camera Raw 6.7 update for Elements 10
    mac
Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7 update for Elements 10
Also, photoshop elements 13 will open those files as well.

  • Can't view Sony RAW (.ARW) file in Adobe Bridge

    Hi all,
    Need some assistance here.
I'm currently using Photoshop CS3 and Adobe Bridge.
I've installed the Adobe Camera Raw update version 4.6.
With this, I'm able to do the relevant editing with the Sony Alfa raw files (.ARW) in Camera Raw.
But the funny thing is, when using adobe bridge I can't view the thumbnails as I view it in camera raw / photoshop.
The thumbnails is "blank". This only happens on .ARW files. I'm able to view jpeg files in thumbnail.
When I check the camera raw preferences in adobe bridge, it shows me it's 4.6.
I'm currently using Mac OS X (Leopard).
Do any of you faced this before?
Hope that any of you could shed a light on this matter.
    Thank you in advance.

Have you figured out a workaround for this?  Most of the forums regarding this issue
are windows related or full of arguments.  I'm guessing there may not be a solution to this problem so I'm curious what approach you're taking.
    Thanks!

  • Lightroom won't read SONY RAW files

I've upgraded to 1.2, installed it once and then again to see if I could repair the problem. I am shooting a SONY A700 and Lightroom won't recognize my RAW files on the card or when I copy them to my hard drive. LR does see jpegs on the card when I shoot them, and yes I have checked the box that says to treat RAW and jpegs as separate files.
If I put only jpegs on the card it reads them, if I only put RAW files on it says no images on card.
    Any suggestions?

To be honest I have not tried looking at my older MRW files as I have not used my 7D in awhile. I will look tonight to see if I can read them in LR, but I'm not qualified to speak on whether the information LR is reading is correct or detailed enough. I'll just see if I can edit them to my satisfaction. I don't get into the mechanics other than to do what I need to improve my photos.
My original problem was getting the Adobe downloader to bring in ARW files, but now I just pull them off the disk and have disabled the downloader, which works fine for ARW.
Just read the previous question and see it was answered on MRW files. I have been editing ARW raw in lightroom and it seems to work with all functionality. I think the program is indispensible to my A700 and they work wonderfully together.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 Cannot Read Sony A7Mk2 ARW File

    Hello,
My Photoshop Elements 12 (v12.1) program cannot read raw riles from a Sony A7Mk2 ILCE-7M2.  I have updated to the latest Adobe Camera Raw Plug-In (8.5.0.236) which purportedly supports this camera's raw files but it does not.
The error received is "Could not complete you request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw."
I tried all the troubleshooting steps on Adobe's help pages including uninstalling and reinstalling the Adobe software.
One possible reason for the problem:  On the page listing supported cameras, Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras, the A7Mk2 appears to be listed as "Sony ILCE-A7M2" which appears to be a mistake as the correct model is "Sony ILCE-7M2" (i.e. no "A").
Very frustrating given that I bought Elements for this specific purpose!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Given the amount of pictures I take, converting to DNG isn't really an viable option.

I believe the said Sony A7Mk2 ILCE-7M2 (adobe calls it Sony ILCE-A7M2)  needs at least camera raw 8.7.1, so you can either use the 8.8 adobe dng converter or upgrade to pse 13, which would open those files directly without the need of the dng converter.
(you would need to to use Help>Updates in the pse 13 editor to get the camera raw 8.7.1 plugin)

  • LR2 wont read my raw files

I am trying to upload images using a udma card reader on my laptop.  I just downloaded LR2 on my laptop so I can show clients their images, but for some odd reason it is not working.  It downloaded a few pictures from one of my cards, but not all of them and when I try to upload from that same card and others, it says that none could be imported because of damage or cant read it (something like that).  My cards are not damaged because I can download them on my pc.  In installed pc3 (bridge) and canon's software hoping that this would help.  I can upload them via bridge, but it doesnt let me preview the images (it is just a standard picture instead of my photo)
HELP!!!  I have to leave for a wedding and I have my clients shoot tomorrow that I wanted to show the pics to on my laptop afterwards.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Make sure you have the correct version of Adobe camera raw particularly if your camera is a newish model.
On the top menu click Help > About Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2
The latest program will show: Version 3.0 and Camera raw 6.1
You will probably have version 2.7 and camera raw 5.7
Also check your PC to establish if there is any difference.
If you need an update go to Adobe Labs to get a download,

Just to clarify, you don't need to coordinate your version of Lightroom with ANY version of Adobe Camera Raw.  Lightroom does not use the Camera Raw plug-in.  If you installed Lightroom 2 from the disk then you have version 2.0.  You need to download and install 2.7, and that will give you the last revision of Lightroom 2.  The latest version of Lightroom always coincides with the latest version of Camera Raw because they both use the same core technology.

  • Support for RAW (ARW) from Sony NEX-7

I have iPhoto 9.2.3 (629.52) on my macBook Air running OS X 10.6.8.  I successfully imported Raw photos from my Sony NEX-7 (ARW).
I have iPhoto 9.2.3 (629.52) on my iMac running OS X 10.6.8.  When I try to import these same Sony Raw files, I get the message that the format is not supported (or whatever that message is).
I downloaded the RAW camera update 3.9 and installed it on my iMac.  Still no go.
    What gives?  Any ideas?  Suggestions?

Ah, wouldn't you know it.  Found the answer right after I posted my question (I looked before . . . I swear I did).
I needed and have downloaded the RAW Camera Update 3.13 (I think the specific update I needed was in the RAW Camera update 3.10).
    Thanks . . . um . . . to me
    Cheers.

  • LR 4.2RC and ACR 7.2 RC won't read SONY RX 100 ARW files

I was at a wedding yesterday and had two cameras with me - a Nikon D800 and my little SONY RX 100.  I was using an Eye-Fi Pro card for the Sony.  I'm uninterested in the Wi-Fi capabilities when I'm away from home, but like the camera to upload pictures when I'm close to my big processing machine.  Long story short.  This was the first time I've used the LR 4.2RC and ACR 7.2RC with the Sony RX 100.  I plugged the card into both the regular Eye-Fi USB reader, and into my Hoodman USB 3.0 reader.  Of course, LR doesn't like the Eye-Fi reader, but it loves the Hoodman.  Finally, it recognized the Hoodman and the Eye-Fi card.  I have previews set to minimal and I was attempting to import all the raw (ARW) files into Lightroom.  When the initial previews come up as I start the import process, it shows about 1/3 of the previews and then tells me it can't read the rest, including MP4 files.  When I actually begin the import, it simply times out and reports that it was unable to import ANY of the ARW files, nor the MP4 files.  I have no trouble reading 63 files into Raw Photo Processor so I know there is nothing wrong with any of the files.  I can only conclude that there is something wrong with LR 4.2 and/or ACR 7.2.
Anyone else reporting this problem?  I'm puzzled because this is the ONLY time I have ever had trouble importing files from supported cameras.
    Thanks for feedback.

Well.  After some experimentation, I discovered what the problem seems to be.  For reasons completely opaque to me, Lightroom expects not only that the Eye-Fi card will be read from its own reader, but it also expects that the Eye-Fi helper application be installed and running.  Of course, this means that I end up with duplicate copies of every file - once to the Eye Fi directory, and again to the appropriate Lightroom Folder on a completely different set of drives.   I guess the conclusion I can draw from this is that without the helper application, the Eye Fi card is dumb and the images only partly visibible.  The Eye-Fi helper can import the .ARW files, but it doesn't display them because Apple hasn't updated its camera list to include the RX100.  Until they do, I think I'll just use regular cards and consign the Eye-Fi card to the hall of unhelpful cards.  Yikes, the darned thing is as expensive as the Lightroom upgrade.
    Sigh.

Lightroom has no problem reading DNG files. Whether the edits you have done to the DNGs you have originally edited in Photoshop Elements 10 I'm not sure. ACR edits made to DNGs are saved in the DNG file itself, as apposed to a XMP sidecar file, so LR should see those edits. At the worst you will get an exclamation mark in the upper right hand corner of the imported DNGs and clicking on that exclamation mark you will get a dialog box asking you to either import settings from disk or overwrite settings. you would select import settings from disk.

  • I have iphoto '08 version with an imac osx 10.5.8. It will not read my RAW files  from my Nikon D800 - a very new model. How can I get it to read my RAW files?

my somewhat old imac osx 10.5.8 with iphoto '08 will not read my RAW files from my new Nikon D800 camera - a new model on the market( 5 months or so). How can I get iphoto to read my RAW  files?

iPhoto 08 would not read RAW files from that new a camera. You need to upgrade so you can get more up-to-date version of OS X and iPhoto. Another possiblity is see if iPhoto 11 will run on 10.5.8, if so you should update. You can also attempt to run Software Update and see if it finds a newer release of iPhoto 08 that supports newer RAW formats.
