Iphoto 2.0 and leopard

If I load leopard on my powerbook which is running 10.4.10, is it going to let me keep iPhoto 2.0?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Yes, as long as you do either a straight Update or Archive and Install. I don't know how compatible iPhoto 2 will be. It should work in it's basic way. You should ask that question in the iPhoto 4 and earlier forum. Someone there with iPhoto 2 may have installed Leopard and can answer your question from first hand experience.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto '08 and Leopard

I am using an iMac G5 with 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM, 160 GB Hard Drive and recently upgraded to OS 10.5.1 Leopard. I am using iPhoto '08 Version 7.1.1 (354) and currently have just over 3000 photos (8.2 GB) in the library.
When I try to scroll in the photo viewing window when in "Photos" mode in the source list it is extremely slow, erratic and jerky. Also when in this mode even moving the "Zoom in/Zoom out" slider is slow and jerky. I don't check the "Outline" or "Drop Shadow" in the prefs.
On the other hand when I go to "Events" mode in the source list everything seems to be smooth and fairly rapid, certainly by comparison. I am puzzled and very frustrated by this especially since I went to the trouble and expense to upgrade my memory to 1.5 GBs. Is Leopard the culprit or is it my latest version of iPhoto? Or both?

    jerrydav:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't think it's the amount of memory that's the culprit. 1.5G is plenty. Is iPHoto slow in opening? Do you open into the Photo section with all thumbnails displayed? If so, select show Event names and close all of the events before shutting down iPhoto. Control click on of of the event triangles to open or close all at the same time. Having all the thumbnails open and fairly large can slow iPhoto a bit.
How much free space do you have on your boot drive? Too little can definitely affect performance, not only of iPhoto but the system and other applications. Report back with how much free space you have.

  • IPhoto 08 and Leopard Firewall not compatible

Since I turned on the Leopard Firewall in the mode where it automatically add applications that need access iPhoto has been asking for permission to accept incoming Internet connections.
Every time it does this I say 'Allow' and enter the Admin password, but it does not seem to take as this comes up every time I start iPhoto.
iPhoto is listed in the Firewall with 'Allow incoming connections', but it still asks every time.
Clearly a bug that needs sorting out.

    Ian:
I've set my firewall to the 3rd option, "Set access for specific services and application". iPhoto is not listed in the list, only some applications that I want to block incoming connections for. No problems with that setup.

  • IPhoto 7.1 and Spotlight in OS X 10.4.11

I've invested considerable time and energy in endowing photos in iPhoto 7.1 with keywords and comments, only to discover that Spotlight doesn't seem to be using all this information. I'm only able to find photos with names that contain the character string I specify in the Spotlight window.
I vaguely recall encountering a similar problem with an older version of iPhoto. I believe the solution was to select all the photos in the Library, add a keyword to them, then later remove it. I tried that, but it seems not to make any difference.
Can anybody shed any light on this problem?

    Richard:
iPhoto doesn't write the keywords to the image file until it's exported out of iPhoto with the option to include the keyword selected. However, on a one time basis, you can run iView MediaPro in it's demo mode and, following the first part of Tutorial #1, write all of the keywords, comments and titles to the original image files in iPhoto. Then the spotlight search will find the files with those keywords.

  • Versions of iMovie and iPhoto compatible with Snow Leopard

I finally managed to reinstall iMovie and iPhoto into the Snow Leopard side of my hard drive (I have partitioned it into Snow Leopard and
Mountain Lion). I want to use the last versions of both that are still compatible with Snow Leopard, but I don't want to download any updates that will take me into Mountain Lion territory. The iMovie version that I have downloaded is 8.0.4 (807), and the iPhoto version is 81 (415).  What versions are only compatible with Mountain Lion?

    Mende1,
If I understand you correctly, I can get the most advanced versions of iMovie and iPhoto in iLife 11. Furthermore, there is no danger of updating to the point that they will no longer be compatible with Snow Leopard. If I had known that before,I could have saved myself a great deal of trouble, and I could have done it long ago.  Well, live and learn.

  • Slideshow Video doesn't play in iPhoto 9.5 and Mavericks 10.9

I have just upgraded to iPhoto 9.5 and Mavericks 10.9
(from Snow Leopard, and iPhoto '09).
I am trying to do an iPhoto Slideshow.
I chose one of the themes, pick a music, and start "Preview".
When the slideshow gets to a video clip, the screen goes black, while the music continues to play.
In my old setup,  I was able to see the video clips in the slideshow during "preview" or "play".
    Any advice?  Thank you!
I am trying to organize holiday photos/videos into slideshows that can be easily viewed by family.

I re-installed Mavericks, and this video/slideshow problem went away!

  • IPhoto MobileMe Gallery and Passwords !@#

Appears to be an issue with posted iPhoto Galleries with personalized passwords. I have noticed that iPhoto does not consistently publish iPhoto Galleries with functioning passwords (or more accurately, MobileMe does not push down passwords evenly to all of its load balanced servers).
Some individual photos will come through following username/password authentication, while others will fail username/password authentication and come up with broken images. I have an iPhoto album on MobileMe that refuses to be viewed entirely by the published username/password pair.
To make matters worse, if a user fails authentication, they are prompted to re-enter again, and again and again ...
Latest patches on OS, and Apps - seems like we need one more.
    Golan.

    Golan:
Have you tried the first line, general all purpose fixes: 1 - close iPhoto, delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and see if that helps; 2 - repair disk permissions with Disk Utility.
After that you can try rebuilding the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options. Make a backup copy of the library beforehand as a precaution against a repair going bad.

  • IPhoto 08 Preferences in Leopard

Have a glitch changing tabs in the preferences window now that I've upgraded to Leopard. When I click on a new category of preference, the window jumps up and down for a second. Anyone else having this problem?

    Andy:
I don't see anything like you're experiencing. Try deleting the iPhoto preference file and empty the iPhoto cache folder in the User/Library/Caches folder. Also run disk utility and repair disk permissions.

  • 2011 iMac, OS X 10.7.5 Lion is missing iPhoto, iMovie, iMessage and Garage Band

I purchased a little used 2011 iMac last night. OS X 10.7.5 Lion is missing iPhoto, iMovie, iMessage and Garage Band, which according to this Apple page should be included Apps on iMacs: http://www.apple.com/imac/built-in-apps/
Lion Recovery also appears to be missing, as restarting while holding down the Command-R keys is not working after half a dozen tries.
How do I restore at least iPhoto, which I need and use daily?
I thought of buying and installing Mountain Lion, but near as I can tell from the Apple site, iPhoto is NOT included.
I DO have Snow Leopard discs from my old iMac and could revert so as to get back to work, but if the Lions can be made to purr, I'll stay and try to work out my minor quibbles.
    Thanks for your consideration,
    Blandz

    Thanks for the additional info!
Yes, those are the very arrows of which I speak. I happen to be using Firefox at present and took a screen shotshot of my basic desktop layout. Although "Dummy" widows are shown, they represent the esential windows I access frequently while doing other tasks.
At any time, one or more windows may be covered by others, but they are always "in their place" so that by clicking on upper corners they quickly appear. Note in particular the right side windows. Where I would click the corner to expose a partially hidden window, Lion chose to put the diagonal full screen arrows. Unless I'm VERY careful to click to either side of the arrows (and this extra care defeats the whole QUICKNESS factor), the window then opens FULL screen..., annnoying, unproductive and not at all useful to my work processes.
Hence my goal to send the arrows to their grave. Should I succeed, I'll continue going forward with new versions of OS X, and that would be my preference.
    Be well,
    Blandz

  • Syncing 2 operating systems Tiger and Leopard on 1 Mac is this possible ?

On my newly dual boot G5 I see myself living in both Tiger and Leopard equally and wanting to open access and update my Itunes, mail, calendar, and iphoto in either boot instance and be able to trust that all are in sync. Can it be done ? BTW the apps are all duplicated since there are two application folders 1 per OS, I knew you knew that

If you only point to the iTunes file, the software will read it's xml file, which is what hasn't been updated.
iTunes should update content when pointed to the Music file.
The only problem with this is that the two xml files get updated for each OS version separately.
I don't keep favorites, ratings, etc., so it isn't a bother to me.
For those that it matters, something like this may help:

WOW that worked japamac ! Thanks I'm going to test by adding media in one OS then see if it appears in the other's Itunes library. If it does then this is exactly what I was after !

  • IPhoto library size and movie imports - getting HUGE!

In iPhoto 08- (in my primary library) I have 23,000 photos, and about 300 movies (some MPEG) from an older Sony digicam, and now I have a Canon Powershot TX1 which is a flash based still digicam/720P HD camcorder that captures very large AVI's (depending on shot length, they range from 30MB to 400-500MB). I know I can choose on import to not bring them into iPhoto, and just bring in the still shots. However, it does make it easy to bring them into iPhoto along with the still pics, but I am concerned about the growing size of my 45GB library (1 of 3 libraries - I have not been splitting them up in the last couple of years, relying on the fact that iPhoto is stable with very large libraries- and going to enable a Time Capsule w/ Time Machine very soon). Time Capsule would save me here, right? Am I playing with fire here on the library size, and setting myself up for a crash?? There are so many downsides to multiple libraries when it comes to projects, searches, imports, etc. I'd love to know that I can safely stick with one.
Wondering also if I should NOT import the movies into iPhoto, and keep them seperate? The benefit to doing this, is that we can post MULTIPLE movies to the .Mac gallery at the same time, and have them appear as seperate movies...whereas in iMovie 08, if I put a bunch of clips into a project to post to .Mac gallery, it compiles them as a single movie - which is, many times, not what we want.
Any advice here is greatly appreciated!!!

    GaryFL1:
You might consider creating a separate library for the movies and see if that will speed up your primary library. If you needed a movie in an album to create a web gallery you could put it in an album in the Movie Library and copy that album to your working library.
A lot of iPhoto's quickness depends on both CPU power, RAM and free space on your boot drive. I would imagine your iMac would be your primary iPhoto machine and it should meet the CPU and memory criteria. How about your free space?
Time Machine is a very good backup device in my experience. Depending on how big your backup drive is and how much you're backing up, you can go back in time a fair amount. I've got a 750 GB TM drive backing up my boot drive and one external. It now goes back 5 1/2 weeks for me.

  • IPhoto, older browsers, and settings

I have searched and haven't found an answer for this, so I'm posting. My apologies if it's been covered.
I used to use earlier versions of iPhoto to publish photos for my family. Now that I've gotten a new computer and am using the latest version of iPhoto, I'm confused. Sure the new snazzy effects are nice, but no one in my family (they use older iMacs and average Windows machines) can see my photos.
I've looked and looked, but can't find a setting to simplify it when the page is created. I like ajax as much as the next guy, but sometimes can't things be simple if necessary? I really, really want to keep this simple and just throw my photos up so I can focus on other things like not doing this myself.
Any suggestions? Kindest thanks for any help.

    Christopher:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The problem is with Safari. Suggest they try a newer version of Safari if it will run on their system or switch to Firefox 2 (the V3 version doesn't work).
Or have them try dowloading a newer version of WebKit from Nightly Builds and launch it instead of Safari. It will open Safari when it launches. WebKit is the underpinning of the Safari browser and some others. There are a number of different versions and they can try several until they get one that works.
I'm using Safari 2 with one of the latest WebKits and it works great.

  • HT1229 How to bring iPhotos including faces and albums etc, to new installation?

HT1229: iPhoto: How to move the Library folder to a new location
I have installed all Programs on new drive and want to bring in my iPhotos including faces and albums etc. Could I transfer iPhotos from the old drive (in an external caddy) using copy, and paste into the new system??
I have copied all the photos but now these do not carry all the Albums, Face names etc.
The old system (which was running agonisingly slow) had been updated to Lion from Snow Leopard but the current new install of Snow Leopard will not allow the upgrade to Lion.
    Any advice appreciated

Are you sure your Macbook meets the hardware requirements for Lion?
In order to install Mac OS X 10.7 you will need:
Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of RAM
Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later with the Mac App Store installed
At least 4GB of additional disk space to accommodate the download, but more is obviously recommended

  • I want to download iPhoto compatible with  Snow Leopard 10.6.8

I want to download iPhoto compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Which is the suitable version?

Thanks. No I don't own a version of iPhoto11, although I was using iPhoto on my iMac Duo2 (late 2006) - operating system Lion or Mountain Lion I seem to remember - until the hard drive packed up. A few days ago I bought  a Snow Leopard installation DVD from Apple Shop online and yesterday successfully put it on a My Passport for Mac external drive (£49 from Maplin), a much cheaper option than replacing the internal hard drive. No-one from Apple Support had suggested this!!!
Everything is working fine but I am missing my iPhoto.  iTunes downloaded free online works well.  I have a packed-full Iomega portable hard drive which I had backed up using Time Machine for the past several years.
Do you think I could get a compatible iPhoto from this

  • IMac (Late 2006) Stalls with EFI 1.2 and Leopard

A few days ago, I installed both the iMac 1.2 EFI Firmware update and Leopard on my late 2006 20" iMac. Since then, I've seen random momentary stalls throughout the system.
It sometimes happens while scrolling a web page, displaying a sheet, opening a stack, browsing CoverFlow, and so on. I don't know how to intentionally recreate it, it just seems to happen. It often (always?) seems to coincide with some disk activity.
I don't remember this behavior on the same hardware in the past, so either it's something with the firmware update or Leopard. Has anyone seen anything else like this?
    Thanks in advance.

Some people reported various bugs after installing the firmware update. Shutting it off and turning it back was all that was needed to fix the bugs.
