IPhoto 2.0.x - sync photo to iPod

How do I upgrade my iPhoto so I can sync photos to the ipod?

In order to sync through iPhoto, it says I need iPhoto 4.0.3 or later.
Yes. But in order to copy photos to your iPod, you don't have to sync through iPhoto. The only reason to go through iPhoto at all is to be able to use an iPhoto album as the direct source for a group of photos to be copied to the iPod. If you don't have iPhoto 4, just select and Export (from iPhoto 2) whatever photos you want to sync to your iPod; put them in a folder on your desktop, and later move it to wherever you choose to store it. Quit iPhoto, open iTunes, and follow the instructions in "Copying photos to an iPod or iPod nano" from iPod Help. Instead of choosing an iPhoto album, choose the folder on the desktop as the source. No need for iPhoto 4.
This method does leave you with a folder full of pictures on your desktop (or wherever else you store it) that are duplicates of some of the ones in your iPhoto Library. So for the most economical use of hard drive space, you may want to upgrade to iPhoto 4 and sync directly with an iPhoto album through it. But you're not required to do so.

Try deleting the iPod Photos Cache folder. There may be more than one. For its location see:
iTunes: Photo sync creates iPod Photo Cache folder
Also, go to the Photos pane for the iPod in iTunes and make sure syncing photos is unchecked.

  • Can't sync Photos to iPod - Unknown Error (-50)

Earlier I was not able to sync my iPhoto library to my iPod via iTunes because I would get the error message "...Unknown Error (-50)".
I have solved my problem, but I thought I would share my experience so Apple can fix the problem and other people can benefit from my work around until the problem is fixed.
The problem seems to stem from iPhoto's AlbumData.xml file getting bad XML syntax. iPhoto can read this bad XML syntax and function, but iTunes can't handle it.
I imported some photos into iPhoto that had some keywords that were entered via Google Picasa. These keywords some how caused iPhoto to put bad syntax in the AlbumData.xml file. To get the XML file correct, I used iPhoto to identify the offending photos and keywords. I think replaced the photo's keywords with keywords I created in iPhoto and deleted the Picasa generated keywords from my iPhoto Library using iPhoto's preferences page.
Ironically, iPhoto worked fine and it was iTunes that could not handle the bad XML file (funny, I thought iTunes would be making API calls to iPhoto and not reading the XML file directly - so much for software reuse).
Hopefully, Apple will fix this problem in future iPhoto and iTune fixes. After all, those darn "Hi, I am Mac..." commercials claim that Apple so is much better then MS. Seems like Apple's software has odors too.
    Just sharing,
    Donald

Donald B:- This fix worked a treat! Thanks.
Gravity Addict:- I was lucky that the problem obviously occurred after my last import so I only had to look at 60 pictures.
In the 'Photos' menu click 'Get Info' to show the Info window with 'Keywords' highlighted. For me it was obvious that I had two keywords associated with these pictures that I had not put in, so just deleted these from the iPhoto preferences. Hope this works for you.

  • Can't sync photos to iPod Touch

Downloaded 4.3 to my iPod Touch today. I'm running 10.5.8 on my MacBook. Now it won't sync with iPhoto. I keep getting the message, IPod "Touch" cannot be synced. The required file can't be found. I don't know what this means or what file it can't find. Please help!

Planb77, Thank you for your response. I trashed the cache and tried to recreate it. I synced my iPod Classic with no problem. I have 80GB on it and only 32GB on the Touch. I let all my pictures and a movie download to the Classic. I don't want the movie or all, just some, of my pictures on the Touch. The photos will not sync with the Touch at all. Any help will be deeply appreciated!
    PS-Everything else syncs just fine.

  • Can't sync photos with iPod

I'm trying to load some photos in albums from iPhoto onto my iPod and it just isn't working. I click the Photos tab on the iPod screen; choose "Sync photos from iPhoto"; choose "Selected albums"; check the boxes of the albums I want uploaded onto the iPod; then press Sync. The swirling arrows come up next to the iPod name under Devices in the left column for maybe two seconds, then disappear. When I check, there are no photos on my iPod.
I've tried creating a new folder on my desktop, moving the photos into it and syncing from there - it doesn't work.
I'm doing everything right here and it just ain't happening. Can anyone help me?

I've got the same problem. Any help?

  • TS3697 iTunes 10.7 does not sync photos to iPod, iPad, iPhone

It used to be so easy to select albums in iTunes to sync to my other devices, but it no longer works.  I've wiped out the iPod cache, done a fresh download of iTunes 7, and all I've managed to do is wipe all my previous albums off my iPhone.  How can I get iPhoto 11 v9.4 albums into iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch (all running OS6) from my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion?  I get nothing but error messages saying that iTunes no longer syncs photos with devices.

This was a bug that Apple fixed with their updated iPhoto version 9.4.1 which just became available a day or two ago.

  • Syncing photos onto iPod

Just got 80G iPod Classic and wondering if there is any way that I can sync photos from a DVD right onto the iPod. It seems that the only way to sync the photos is to transfer them from the DVD to my iPhoto library. I'd like to be able to do this so that I don't have to load up iPhoto with the photos from the DVD which I created to clear iPhoto and hard drive in the first place.

Open Finder, go to your user's folder. Right click in Pictures and selec Get Info. Check the permissions and activate read-write permission to your account. You can also repair permissions in Disk Utility

  • ITunes 9 no longer syncs photos to ipod touch

has anyone seen this? after "upgrading" to iTunes 9, the photo tab works fine, you can select photo folders to copy to the iPod touch, but when you sync it doesn't actually copy any photos to the iPod. Help!

ok this is really weird. what i have discovered is that iTunes thinks that no matter how many photos are in a folder, that there are only 41 photos in it. any folder i choose in itunes to sync photos from, it says "41". even if there are 101 photos in the folder, itunes thinks that there are 41. why would it do that? any body have a clue? this is driving me nuts! i have deleted itunes, deleted every last file associated with itunes including everything i could find in the registry, re installed and it STILL does it? where is it getting that info from? i am about ready to wipe my machine and start over from scratch but there must be a reason it is doing this. any suggestions??

  • Syncing photos to iPod makes my iTunes crash

I just bought my 4G Nano(Third-Generation) a week ago. It works fine at music.
But everytime i try to sync my photos to iPod my iTunes crash.
I put all my photos into one directory (5MB, 110pics, all low res picture), then start sync them in iTunes.
When the process bar comes to one certain place it stopped, then few minutes later iTunes crash.
Then the tray shows windows message like "coudn't write I:/"(I'm using a chinse version of XP), sometimes iTunes shows could't transfer too.
But there's still 32 photos tranfered, and available to watch them on iPod.
I tried sync some other photos again later, this time the as soon as I started to sync photos, iTunes crashed, then the "coudn't write I:/" message.
I tried again with 5 some other photos, it transfered 2 only, and the same thing comes up, iTunes crashed, the "coudn't write I:/" message.
So, anybody cam help with a solution? It will be perfect to watch photos on my iPod :\

Well, after my fifth try, it worked out.
I just randomly pick out 48 pisc that i liked from my 110 pics. (which are all batting pictures of Albert Pujols. Then it just worked)
No carsh, and less than 1 minutes. (2MB only)
But I won't call this answered, maybe this'll happen a lot in future, I just get lucky this time.
I've search the forum and knowing that VITSA has the problem with syncing photos crashs system, but I'm using XP, not many syncing photo problem in XP beeing seen after my search.
So i'm still very curious what cause this, anyone knows?
And anyone has the same issue i get, please reply.

  • Sync photo to ipod video

    Hello,
Please anyone with information on how to upload/sync photo to your ipod. I have followed the instruction given online and in the help menu, but each time I tried to sync my pic from photo album 2.0 I receive an error message reading "The ipod cannot be updated. The disk could not be read from or ritten to."
    Thanks.

I have the same problem and error message using Photoshop Elements 3.0. So I tried just uploading a single .jpg to my iPod Video, and it wouldn't work either. Have you resolved your problem yet?

This is how Apple handles photos.
Just as a song is in your music library and you can access that exact same song from a playlist,  your photos are in the Photo Library and those exact same photos can be accessed from the labum you synced.
It is working exactly as designed.

  • Is there a bug in last iTunes version? Cannot sync photos to iPod.

After reading every post and trying every solution in order to fix a bad photo syncing (error -48 and so), nothing seems to work for me. Anyone else thinks it's a bug in iTunes? My music update was OK but syncing stops after optimizing the photos, AND AFTER erasing the old ones in the iPod, so none was transferred to it. If it's a bug, hope someone recognizes it for many of us have a fix soon. I find ridiculous to step back to an older version in order to have a better performance, since that's why iTunes is updated in the first place. Any new solution for error -48 in the meantime?

I've been struggling for DAYS trying to update photos from iPhoto on my video iPod and kept getting the "file not found" notice. I tried the "5 R's" and rebuilding the iPhoto library (starting iPhoto with the command-option keys depressed) and kept getting the notice. The iPod was loading the photos (as evidenced by the iPod's "about" window), but they wouldn't show up on the iPod and iTunes indicated 0 photos. I tried loading the "data" folder from iPhoto and was able to see my photos, but the albums were not there so I didn't consider this the best solution. Then I found Adrick's hint. I deleted the "iPod Photo Cache" re-selected the iPhoto library under the iPod prefs, updated again and everything works now. I can see my photos and albums again and I don't get the "iPod cannot be updated, file not found" notice. The only remaining problem is that after the automatic updates, the iPod won't eject by itself, I need to eject it manually. Thanks for the hint, I only wished I'd found it earlier. I wonder how many others are struggling with this. Apple needs to post a KB article on this now!

  • Itunes won't sync photos to ipod

For some reason in iTunes I can't sync my photos in photo albums within iPhoto to my iPod anymore. It just won't do it; I say I want it to sync selected albums from within iPhotos, it says syncing ipod for about five seconds and then 'complete', but there's nothing on my ipod.
I tried setting up a new folder on my desktop, filled it with the photos I wanted to sync with and when it asked me if I wanted to sync my ipod with this new folder I said yes. Tried to sync in iTunes, nada.
What am I doing wrong, and how hard can this be? It used to work fine; I have no idea what happened to make it go pear shaped.

I forgot to add that music works just fine from the external HDD. I have podcasts on my laptop's hard drive, I synchronise music (form CDs) and videos (from DVDs) from the external HDD, but photos will only work from the laptop's HDD.
Anyone seen anything like this before?
    Hopefully,
    Chris
