IPhoto 2.1 to iPhoto 4.0 Must you purchase 4.0?
iPhoto 2.1 to iPhoto 4.0 Must you purchase 4.0?
Trying to install pictures on a Nano and can't until I have a later version of iphoto (4.0 on)
Do I need to purchase a later version of iPhoto to do this.
Kris (Kansas)
Kris:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You don't need iPhoto to put images on a Nano. Just create a special folder titled "Nano" in your Pictures folder and export/drag those pictures you want on the Nano from your current iPhoto into that folder. Then in iTunes under the Nano preferences (with the Nano connected to the Mac) just navigate to that Nano folder and select it to be synced to the Nano. The only downside is that you have to had duplicates of the photos on your HD but it's not a lot in most cases.

When ordering enlarged photos from iPhoto, must I purchase them one at a time and pay a shipping fee for each and very one of them. Sort of a ripoff but I can't figure how to purchase many and pay one shipping fee.
You may have better luck posting in the iPhoto forum if no one on this forum is able to assist. I'm sure you are doing something wrong though.

IPhoto '08: Emptying Trash Can Hangs Application - Must FORCE QUIT
Hi there,
I currently have about 1700 photos in my iPhoto trash can. When i try to 'empty trash', i am prompted with the confirm message, to which i reply "OK" ......... and that's IT! It hangs.
I have no choice but to 'force quit', as it is 'not responding'.
I did find a topic about this exact problem, but it was for iPhoto 6. I recommends holding down the Command and Option keys, opening iPhoto, then 'rebuilding the iPhoto Library database'. I am using iPhoto '08.. so i wasn't sure that that option would be still valid.
Can anybody help me get those photos out of my trash can??Hi iWoman, and welcome to Discussions.
This is the panther forum iWoman, but that shouldn't matter.
...recommends holding down the Command and Option keys, opening iPhoto, then 'rebuilding the iPhoto Library database'. I am using iPhoto '08.. so i wasn't sure that that option would be still valid.
It is still valid, so give it a try.
+In iPhoto ’08, you can rebuild your library by holding down both the Command and Option keys on your keyboard while you launch iPhoto. Keep those keys pressed until you are asked if you want to rebuild your library.+
Then see how you go, remember that 1700 photos is a lot so give iPhoto some time to do all of that work. -
Sharing iPhoto '08 Library with iPhoto '06 over network?
Hi Everyone,
I recently got a new iMac with iLife '08 installed. I'm keeping my Powerbook, but cleaning it up since everything will now live on the iMac. However, just as I share my music in iTunes over my network from my iMac to my Powerbook, I also want to do the same with photos, so that I can at least look at them. My Powerbook has iLife '06 and I'm telling it to look for shared libraries, and I'm telling iLife '08 on my iMac to share its library, but I'm not seeing anything in iPhoto on my Powerbook...help?
Thanks!MacCourt:
You should be able to share those libraries. iPhoto on both computers must be running and have their preferences set to share and look for libraries. The shared library will be displayed in the left hand pane under the Events and Photos icons.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file. -
How to share iphoto 08 libary with iphoto 6
Hi,
I have recently moved my iphoto libary to my TC and updated the libary to ilife 08 to be read on my new mac book pro.
However I still want to read the libary on my Imac with Ilife 06, is it possible to do this without creating a new libary from the raw files each time there is a new import.
Also to upgrade my Imac to Ilife 08 do I have to purchase a disk or can I pay and download an application update.
ThanksI’m not sure that you can share a v7 library with v6.
For a start v6 cannot open a v7 library. You’ll have been warned about this when you updated. What you can try is enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
The only way to upgrade to a later version is to purchase an iLife disk.

Convert iPhoto '08 library to iPhoto '06 Library?
I currently have my iPhoto library on a MacBook with iPhoto '08 but want to start managing on it with my iMac using iPhoto '06, but the iMac does not recognize the new '08 database format. Is there a way to back-convert the library so that '06 can use it?
No - there is not
You must create a new iPhoto 6 library and import the photos into it - there is no backwards conversion (iPhoto '08 back to iPhoto 6) - you can export the photos from iPhoto '08 including the keywords

Help, Iphoto 08 transfer from iphoto 09 TM backup
Hi all, I have a small problem. I originally had all my photos on a mini 10.5 w/ iphoto 09. Backed up via Time Machine.
I have a second Ibook G4 on 10.4.11 w/ iphoto 08 now.
On the Ibook I originally had iphoto 06, I transfered the the photo library folder from the mac mini back up on time machine. I had iphoto 06 open and ext drive hooked and I went to xfer it kind of just started importing can't remember how.
I didn't like iphoto 06, upgraded to iphoto 08 on ibook. it didn't break in to events. I had to manually break up events by date and delete multiple dups and those face recognition thumbs. Hours later..... I noticed when i went to upload photos to Facebook, ebay , my finder just shows "iphoto library w/icon" and no drop down arrow to choose event or photo.
Question is how/what do I do to be able to view library to upload photos web and other sites.Mandomex1 wrote:

This sounds like you drug the iPhoto '09 library onto iPhoto 06 and imported it - you must never import an iPhoto library into another iPhoto library

when updating my ipad air to iOs 8 my 2 albums on iphoto were deleted since iphoto is no longer supported. Anyone similar experiences? Any chance to get back my albums (not only the pictures, but the actual album with text etc)?

Migrating from iPhoto for iOS to Photos on iOS 8 - Apple Support
The following data will migrate from iPhoto to Photos.
Any photos in your iPhoto library that aren't already in Photos are added.
Image adjustments you made in iPhoto are migrated to Photos.
If you applied image adjustments to photos synced to your iOS device from iTunes, a duplicate of each photo will be created in Photos with adjustments applied.
Photos hidden in iPhoto do not appear in the Years, Moments, or Collections views in Photos, but are placed in an album titled Hidden.
Photo Books, Web Journals, and Slideshows are converted into regular albums in Photos. Text and layouts are not preserved.
Only projects created on the device performing the migration will be converted. Projects you synced from other devices to iPhoto via iCloud must be converted from the devices on which they were created.
Photos marked as Favorites in iPhoto are marked as Favorites in Photos.
Tags and captions from iPhoto are not displayed in Photos, but you can use them as search terms and they will show up respectively as Keywords and Titles in Photos search results.
Flags from iPhoto are converted to the keyword Flagged. -
How do I uninstall iPhoto 5 and reinstall iPhoto 4 in Tiger
I would like to uninstall iPhoto 5 and go back to iPhoto 4. I am using a Pentax Optio S4 Camera and have 3500 pictures in iPhoto 5 and am very unhappy with the performance since upgrading to iPhoto 5. I have read others are also having problems with certain cameras because of EXIF information used to create Maker Notes. With iPhoto 4 my system was very responsive, fast, and reliable. I've decided that the functionality of iPhoto 4 out weighs the features I will loose with iPhoto 5. So, I am wondering what the process is to uninstall iPhoto 5 and reinstall iPhoto 4. I am running Tiger 10.4.3. Has anyone else done this?
Hi xjfo,
To go back to an older version of iPhoto, you must have a backed up Library from that version. An older version of iPhoto will not open newer versions libraries.
If you have newly imported photos in your 5 library that are not in your backed up library you will need to share/export them now. Export the Original to the desktop. These can be imported once you are back in the older version of iPhoto.
Navigate to /Applications and drag iPhoto to the trash
Navigate to /Library/Receipts and drag all of the iPhoto receipts to the trash
Navigate to ~/Library/Preferences and drag com.apple.iPhoto.plist to the trash
Navigate to ~/Pictures and drag your iPhoto 5 Library folder to the desktop. You can keep it on your hard drive in another folder, or you can rename it and keep it in the Pictures folder, or you can move it to an external for safe keeping or you can burn the entire iPhoto Library folder for safekeeping.
Insert your older iLife CD/DVD and choose to do a custom install.
Install iPhoto
Run Software Update and update iPhoto to the latest version. that means if you installed 4 there should be some updated version of 4
Put your backed up iPhoto Library in the Pictures folder. If it is named iPhoto Library then it should open when iPhoto is launched.
If you renamed it, then launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and have it open the library you navigate to.
If you don't have a backed up version of the iPhoto Library of the version you want to install then you have a lot more steps to do.
If done this way, all albums, keywords, folders will have to be redone because you are starting from scratch with a new library and importing these photos into the new library.
Close iPhoto
Rename your old iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and choose it.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
Good luck!

HT204258 iPhoto could read my iPhoto Library stored on NTFS drive, why can't Photos?
This makes no sense to me. I'm running Yosemite 10.10.3 on 15in MB Pro. Just got the update which includes the "Photos" app instead of iPhoto.
The "old" iPhoto could read my iPhoto library which is stored on an NTFS formatted drive. Why can't Photos?
Am I missing something?
I just get the ERROR message and directed to this page - If Photos can't upgrade your library because it's on an unsupported disk volume - Apple Support (which is COMPLETELY UNHELPFUL)
So I now have an 80GB iPhoto Library sitting on my NTFS formatted drive (which is exactly where I want it) and Im just supposed to copy it to my MB Pro's internal drive??? That would take about 2 days, literally! Not to mention bogging down my Pro and making it impossible to carry my external drive to other computers where I edit.
What do I do?
Go out and buy another "volume that your Mac can write to?" ??
Thanks for the sweet update Apple...not.The "old" iPhoto could read my iPhoto library which is stored on an NTFS formatted drive. Why can't Photos?
Am I missing something?
You have been lucky previously. An iPhoto Library on an NTFS volume has never been supported. But previous versions did not check the formatting of the drive.
Not to mention bogging down my Pro and making it impossible to carry my external drive to other computers where I edit.
Get yourself another external drive to use with Photos libraries and fomat it MacOS Extended (Journaled), then move your iPhoto Library there.
See: Format external drives to Mac OS Extended before using with Aperture (the sam goes for iPhoto, since both applications are using the same library format)
The Photos Help states explicitly (https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/pht211de786):
By default, your System Photo Library is stored in the Pictures folder on your Mac, but you can move it to another location on your Mac or store it on an external storage device. However, to use iCloud services, the external storage device must be formatted using Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format, also known as HFS+. -
I recently ran monolingual and removed all but the intel-64 bit architectures. Now my iphoto (along with Idvd, garage band, imovie) will not open. Here is the message that I get.

I have reinstalled Mac OSX 10.6.3 and done the updates from there.
I have reinstalled ilife 11 from disk and done the updates.
I have deleted all the suggested files and then redone install and updates.
I have tried just reinstalling iphoto and doing updates.
Is there any way to get a replacement - /Library/Frameworks/iLifeSlideshow.framework/Versions/A/iLifeSlideshow
file with the right architecture? -
My Iphone 4 just updated to the iOS6. I've connected it to my computer for the first time since then, and wanted to back up my photos in iPhoto. However, although Iphoto recognized my phone, it shows no photos to upload or backup. It lists my phone in the "devices" category on the left bar, but no longer shows any of my photos.
Does anyone have any suggestions?I've reread your question several times and am not sure I understand it.
Are you trying to basically start over, as if you just took your iPhone out of the box? If so, do:
Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings -
I am updating iphoto 9.1 to 9.3 and every time when I clicked for update aps store asked to open it in the account where you purchased. I am using the same account and its available in the purchased item of this account. But in my purchased item library it indicates that you update iPhoto. I am not sure which account the aps store asking. Can someone resolve this problem.

Unable to load pictures in iphoto after upgrade to iphoto 4.0.3
I just installed iLife which contains iphoto 4.0.3. When I tried to open my iphoto the photos were unable to load. I saved a copy of my library - so I know they are there. I tried to installed an upgrade from the dowload page - but it says that I do not have the iphoto 4.0.3 application?? and was unsuccessful. What can I do to get my photos in my library to appear in iphoto?
THis is the iPhoto '08 (version 7.x.x) forum
Are you sure that you just installed iPhoto 4? If so you should post to http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=845
