IPhoto 2 recognizes camera but not pictures that are on it

I just purchased a Casio Exilim S-600 digital camera. It came with its own PhotoLoader software and it recognizes the camera but does not recognize the photos. The PhotoLoader also works with OS 9 so I would prefer to use iPhoto. When I plug the camera into my computer, iPhoto 2 opens and recognizes the camera but says that there are no pictures on it. I have a SD 512 MB memory card in it and there are photos on there but they're not being picked up by iPhoto. Is there some way that I can get these photos off the camera and into iPhoto?
PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Hi, Jezabel. Since there are two places where the camera can store pictures — the SD card and its own small built-in storage memory — it stands to reason that there may be a way for you to select, on the camera before connecting it to the Mac, which location is presented to Image Capture. If this is true, then the camera's manual is the place to find out about it. If it isn't true, then that is undoubtedly why the camera isn't listed as compatible with iPhoto: Casio's own software may be specially designed to import photos from both sources at once, but Image Capture and iPhoto don't expect to see two undifferentiated sources of pictures on the same connection at the same time.

  • IPhoto finds camera, but not photos

I have never had a problem with this, but about a week ago, iPhoto stopped finding any pictures when I connected the camera via the USB cable. I can still pull the photos on to the computer using the proprietary software that came with it (Canon Powershot S400 Elph) and loading them into iPhoto, but iPhoto will not find the photos on its own.
    Switching USB ports didn't help.
Turning off the camera, closing iPhoto and retrying didn't help.
    Can you help?

    Ubele,
I'm afraid I don't know what you mean about reading the Terms of Use. I read them. Did I do so something incorrectly?
No, didn't mean to imply anything was wrong. Some of us in the forum just like to point out the Terms of Use to new users. Sorry about any confusion.
There's also the iPhone issue, where my iPhone doesn't show up at all in Aperture
I don't have an iPhone to help with personal experience. However, I seem to remember other users have reported that they can use their iPhone with Aperture only when iTunes is also active. However I cannot find any of those threads at the moment to help direct you to better details.
Yes, I do have new images on my camera. When they didn't appear in Aperture, I opened iPhoto, and they showed up there.
This is indeed curious. Without any really good ideas at the moment, I would suggest [Troubleshooting Basics|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805], as there may be something wrong with your library.

    This:
if I double click on the photo to enlarge it, the screen flills with a big exclamation mark.
is why you can't do this:
I can not email or move any pictures that are vertical.
It means that iPhoto can't find the photos.
    What version of iPhoto?

My phone was stolen.  I first backe up from the icloud but then synced with my computer and lost some pictures that are backed up on the cloud.  How do I get pics from my old phone which are backed up on the cloud but are not in my photostream?

If you have an iCloud backup, restore it to your phone as explained here: https://support.apple.com/kb/ph12521.  If you have a backup on your computer instead, restore it to your phone by connecting your phone to your computer, opening iTunes and going to File>Devices>Restore from Backup.

If you tried to restore to your iCloud backup and your photos didn't fully restore, first go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup and make sure it isn't still in the process of restoring.
If the restore is complete and all your photos weren't restored, all you can do is try restoring the backup again.  You might try the solution posted by ezjules in this discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19518589#19518589.  This involves opening the photos app after the phone restarts and you provide the passwords for your Apple IDs, then leaving it open for the remainder of the restore process.

    Thank you so much

If you want seperate accounts for managing apps and purchasing content, basically yes, you need two account and would need to repurchase. However, if you just want seperate ID for iMessgae, icloud and such, you can do that and still continue sharing the same Id for apps and itunes.

  • Selecting pictures that are not in albums

How do I select the pictures that are in my library, however are part of any album in the same library?

Hi, Jacek. You can create a smart album with the criteria to contain pictures that are not in any album ("album" "is not" "any"). This smart album will update to remove pictures - that you place in other albums - from itself.
Hint: In preferences, turn "Show Item Counts" on and see the numbers for yourself to double-check the results of your actions.

The digitization of data has introduced a complexity to our interactions with it that we continue to struggle with.  "Picture" and "Photo" now mean different things in different contexts.  In this case (and in general) defining our terms clearly is the first step towards understanding what we are trying to do.  Understanding is the path that allows us to do it.
All pedantic, but please stick with me here  .
You record a set of instantaneous data with a camera.
That data is processed by your camera and saved to a file.
The file format is usually either RAW or JPG.
You transfer those files to your computer, and you import them into the program Aperture (often in one operation).
From each camera-file imported, Aperture creates a record in its database (called, imho unhelpfully, a Library) and an Image that you see in the Aperture Browser and Viewer.
Aperture links the Image and the imported file.
The imported file is called, within Aperture, an Original.
    Every Image has an Original.
The Image is not the Original.  The Image is what you see in Aperture.
The Original is a file that is stored on your computer.
You can make changes to an Image.
    Aperture calls these changes Adjustments.
Adjustments are saved to another file attached to the record in the database.  Let's call this file the Changes File.
Aperture uses these two files attached to the record in the database to create the Image.
Image = Original + Changes File.
The Image is not a file.
Because the Image is not a file, it cannot be shared with other programs.  It exists only inside of Aperture.
In order to share an Image with another program, you must first create a file of the Image.
You do this by exporting Images ("File ▹ Export ▹ Version" is the command in Aperture; should be, imho, "File ▹ Export ▹ Image").
You may ask, "Why all the complexity?  Why doesn't Aperture save Images as files?"  The answer is simple:  Images can require less — and in many cases very very much less — storage space than files of Images.  Rather than save a full-size file for every Image, Aperture saves only instructions on how to make that full-size file.  The gain in storage efficiency is huge.  The trade-off is that although your Images are always available to be made into share-able files, you must create those files when needed (which you do by exporting selected Images).
Here is your question reworded with more precise terms:
    SamanthaR22 might have written:

No, there is not.  Images exist only in Aperture, and are not accessible for use in other programs.  You must create, for each Image in your Aperture Library, a new file outside of your Aperture Library in order to use it with another program.
Aperture does allow you to create and save within your Library share-able files of your Images.  These files are called Previews.  You specify the file parameters in Aperture Preferences on the Previews tab.  These files are available to other programs via the OS X Media Browser.  These files are what you get when you drag selected Images out of the Aperture program and drop them on another program or on your desktop (which is part of the Finder).

  • Aperture doesn't see iPhone 4; sees Canon camera but not photos

From the App Store, I recently downloaded and installed Aperture 3 on my 2008 MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.6. In the preferences for Aperture, Image Capture, and iPhoto, I set Aperture to open automatically when I connect a camera. When I connect my iPhone 4, Aperture doesn't open, nor does the iPhone appear in Aperture when I open Aperture manually. When I connect my Canon Powershot A710IS, Aperture does open, and the camera does appear, but the photos that are on the camera don't appear in the pane (they're JPEG images). I haven't excluded any file types in the Import Settings, and I've tried both JPEG Only and Both (JPEG as Master) under RAW + JPEG. All of this worked fine with iPhoto '09, which is what I was using before I switched to Aperture. If I change the preferences back to what they were, with iPhoto set to open automatically when a camera is connected, it works like it used to. Any ideas? It would be a pain to have to import everything into iPhoto and then transfer it to Aperture.

Mirroring is only available on iPhone 4S and iPad (Gen 2 and 3). In regards to airplay (which is a separate feature to mirroring), not all apps are enabled and this is up to the developer.

iPhoto pulls off new videos from my iPhone 5 just fine.  Does iPhoto automatically come up when you connect your iPhone?  If it does, you should see your iPhone under "Devices" in iPhoto and then can select the videos to transfer (select, then Import Selected), though that should happen automatically.
