IPhoto 2 touch-up brush

I must be doing something wrong. My touch-up brush doesn't work. Please help me.

Irvin,
You are talking about the "Retouch" brush option in the edit mode?
Retouch is a very simple tool that basically averages neighboring pixels. It's like smudging or blending paint with your finger. It is not precise.
To see what it is doing zoom way in on your photo in edit mode. Don't worry if you don't like the results, you can always undo. It sometimes takes a second or two for it to perform the retouch.
It works best when you are trying to remove a little spot. It can make a mess trying to retouch something larger -- you will get a blend of all the colors in the area of the retouch.

  • Touch-up brush help?

Help! I just opened my Adobe PhotoShop Elements 8 package for the first time, and the touch-up healing brush tools do not seem to work on my photos. I've read the tutorials, and have followed the directions.  The tools appear on the photo, and I can manipulate them, but they are not actually removing trouble spots from my photos. Anyone have suggestions or know if there is something on my PC that may be inhibiting the function of this tool?

When you select the healing brush make sure you have proximity match highlighted in the options bar.
If that’s not the problem keep the tool selected and try a reset.

  • BRUSH TOOL NOT SMOOTH

I have an issue with my Cintiq not drawing smoothly in Flash. I need to sketch incredibly fast and loose. Flash used to work just fine but now it suddenly began drawing really crummy. I posted some examples of flash as well as Photoshop, Sketchbook Pro, and ToonBoom Animate Pro which is another vector graphics tool. I thought the vector graphics may be the issue but that app seems to handle the drawing excellently (now if only it did the other things Flash can do). Here's some examples of how they're looking. It may be hard to tell in these already loose sketches but the performance drop is really a big difference in responsiveness between Flash vs the other apps here:
    IMAGE EXAMPLE
    http://i1126.photobucket.com/albums/l613/jedoralive/LINEUP.jpg
    SYSTEM SPECS
    ATI Radeon HD 4870
2x3 Ghz Dual Core Intel Xeon
    8GB RAM
    4TB HD
Does anyone know why my cintiq is causing flash to draw so poorly? Occasionally photoshop will also do the same 'crumbly edges' thing? Any idea how to fix it?

Well, the only problem with that is I will lose the interface of Flash which is why I don't use the others to begin with. In AFX you would have to constantly pop back and forth between photoshop and AFX to draw. TOTALLY counter-intuitive. Why go back and forth between Photoshop and AFX, when you can do both, fast and immediately in Flash? Oh - because Flash doesn't actually draw WELL - it just draws. Or if you draw slow enough, and then run some filters you might get the drawing to look better or at least in the ballpark. Why would I settle for Fish-sticks when I ordered Fish Taco's?
What flash does so great is to allow you to:
    - Draw directly into the app realtime.
    - Play and step through timelines and symbols realtime.
    - Work directly in and out of many symbols/compositions at once allowing you to scale things in time and edit all realtime on the fly (VS lugging things back and forth between apps AND also often waiting for rendering.)
    - No limit to the number of nested symbols and timelines.
I think from a purely technical standpoint it makes sense, but from a practical, user point of view who's been using it heavily and extensively since the Macromedia days, there's severe flaws with Flash still. The Technology already exists in other similar applications so I'm hoping either COMPETITORS, or ADOBE FLASH fill in the blanks where the other side fails to so there's finally an app that does everything in one package. Right now it's a very Pro's vs Con's situation where Flash keeps winning out by a small margin.
This isn't a small detail - it's half the reason I use a program. I don't care how great a car is. If the steering wheel is made of Tofu, or the seats are made from old fish, I'm not buying it. I'm sure sitting and using it for a few hours wouldn't make anyone notice the difference much, but when you're talking about hundreds of hours and thousands upon thousands of sketches per month, it really adds up. The things flash does RIGHT, really help take a load off of that burden which is why I end up using it - but then the things it's NOT doing well - If fixed - would really serve to make it an even faster, better, more useful tool. It's extra frustrating to know there are other apps out there doing it, and that Adobe hasn't touched the brush tool since they bought the rights from Macromedia. It's just sat there for the most part. Maybe Ten years ago it was a breakthrough, but so was texting. Currently it's a hobbyist level tool at best.
If the argument is "That's not really why people use Flash though".
    A) Why have it at all then?
    B) No, and they never will if you don't fix it. There's a whole market of people you're turning off with this one shoddy tool.
Fussy? High Standards? Absolutely. I'm using it for more than art to put on Mom's fridge, and if the box says professional, that's what I expect. I've been patient for 10 years, defending Flash's other points to my workplace hoping they'll eventually fix it. Time's up.

Please do not use iPhoto to rebuild the library. Doing so breaks the brushed adjustments (at least) from Aperture.
    I cannot confirm this.
I made a new Library in iPhoto. Imported some images. Quit iPhoto.
Open the Library in Aperture. Brushed in some effects - most obviously, B&W. They are quite visible in Aperture.
    Quit Aperture.
    Opened the Library in iPhoto.
The brushed in effects are quite visible.
    I quit iPhoto.
I Rebuilt the library with iPhoto. I chose the 'Rebuild Library' command
I opened the Library in Aperture. No change. Brushed in effects are still there
I Quit Aperture and opened the Library in iPhoto. No change. The brushed in effects are still there
The fact that you are seeing this problem, along with difficulty seeing individual projects, suggests some corruption in your Library to me.

  • IPhoto '11 and Time Machine Error

After installing iPhoto '11 the Time Machine reports "The backup is too large for the backup disk..."
Apparently iPhoto touched each file and all are considered new.
The problem is with Time Machine Error - while the error is a failure there is no way to reset the Time Machine unless I go and manually delete entire Time hard drive. Time Machine has not button to restart the backup process from beginning without doing incremental backup.
Should go to Time hard drive and delete Picture folder?

How big is your TM drive and how big is your internal drive?
The general recommendation I've seen is for the TM drive to be at least 2 1/2 times the size of the main drive.

  • Copying photos from iPhoto to desktop-error

I'm trying to save or drag photos from iPhoto to the desktop or hard drive but it won't let me. I get the circle with a line through it. When I try exporting the photos to the desktop I get an error message that says, "Unable to create users/myharddrivename/desktop." Some photos copy over but some don't. Is there a way to just access the main iPhoto library and grab them all? This is an old machine, so I don' t think it works like the new versions of iPhoto. I can't see any folders anywhere under my user or library. Any insights?

iPhoto uses a "libraries" paradigm and essentially hides your photos in "packages" which no other applications can access, including Apple's own Finder.
If you let iPhoto touch your photos, it took them over and you can now only access them through the Export function inside iPhoto.  You cannot use the Finder to drag-copy them.
(iPhoto is the first thing I customarily delete from any and all new Mac OS installs.)

  • PSE 9 extremely slow!

I have recently downloaded the PSE 9 trial (including Organizer). I have been unable to use the program as of yet because it hangs whenever I try any edit function. When I look at the Activity Monitor it shows Elements using 114% of the CPU time. I am running a MacBook Pro 15" 5,1 with a 2.4G processor and 4Gigs of 1067 DDR3 Ram on OSX 10.6.5.
I have tried something as simple as a touch-up brush and it takes 30sec or so for the change to take effect.
If this is what I have to look forward to with Elements, I'm glad I only have the trial, I was going to just buy it at the local shop.
If anybody has any ideas, and yes, I have shut off the auto analyser, I would appreciate it.
    Andrew

I am not a pro user by any means. I have about 2,5
00 family photos, and thought I would like to do some work that was a little more invloved than what I can get with iPhoto.
Barbara, thanks for your suggestions, but aside from the fact that I did everything that you suggested to no avail, my question to you would be... why should I have to? How good can a piece of software be if I need to disable some of it's features in order to get it to work?
I don't hold much truck with software that doesn't just load and work. If there is a problem, Adobe should fix it, not sit back silently while the forums are lit up with peoples concerns.
I am afraid I will have to abandon PSE for now, at least until I hear that this problem has been addressed.
I have tried to attached a screenshot of my activity monitor to show what happens when I try to do anyting in Elements, but can't seem to here on the forum. Sorry. It does show my CPU activity as 114.4% though!

  • Klipsch S4i headphones do not work properly with iPhone 5

I've got a really weird issue with my iPhone 5.  I previously purchased an iPod Nano 16GB as well as Klipsch S4i headphones.  The headphones has a console with 3 buttons.  The topmost button is to increase volume and conversely, the lowest button decreases volume.  No problem with either of these buttons.
The center button is operated by the number of times you push it.  One push pauses the track (song) being played.  A second push resumes play.  Two pushes in a row causes the iPod to advance to the next track in the playlist.  Three pushes in a row cause the iPod to go back to the beginning of the track being played.  If you push three times consecutively then you go back to the track prior to the track which is being played, and so forth depending upon the number of times you keep pushing three times.  With me so far?  So the S4i console works just fine with the iPod.
However, the S4i console does not work well with the iPhone 5.  I went to the Apple store this evening and they restored (reset?) the iPhone 5.  I then restored the data to it from my computer once I got home.  So the state of the S4i console is this.  Push the center button once and it pauses.  That is okay.  Push the center button again and it resumes play.  Still good.
Push the center button twice in a row and it sometimes advances to the next track.  Not always unless you are very fast at depressing the button.  Push the button three times and it may or may not go back to the beginning of the track.  This seems to be a function of 'how fast' you are pushing the button.  Literally, you have to be like Quick Draw McGraw on the darn button.  That is not the case with the iPod Nano.
Pushing the button multiple times does not necessarily take you forward to the next track or at the start of the one playing or to the track before.  While typing this, I managed to get the center button to work better so I thought maybe it is going out.  But I don't experience that same problem with the iPod Nano and it was not a problem on the two tech's iPods/iPhones at the Apple store when tried with my S4i headphones attached.  So I don't think there is any issue with the center button on the S4i's console or those headphones in general.  I also don't think it is a hardware issue as the headphone jack does not seem loose.  I have only been using my iPhone 5 for about a week.
In fact, I was able to get the advance function as well as the reverse function for going back to the beginning of the track to work by depressing the center button quickly but if you want to jump back a track then you really have to hit it quickly multiple times.  In trying to go back to the beginning of a track or jumping back another or multiple tracks, then if the track you went back to the beginning of begins to play then the pushing three times maneuver does not work.  I have no clue what is going on other than it has got to be a programming issue with the iPhone 5.  Call me a cynic but I have my doubts that exchanging my new iPhone 5 is going to make a difference.
Moreover, on a number of occasions (more than 5) while playing tunes on the iPhone 5, it suddenly and randomly stops.  This happened before the device was restored this evening and I have not had the opportunity to really test it out besides seeing if there is still an issue with the S4i headphones and the iPhone 5.  I swear I did not touch or brush against the screen or depress any buttons when this occurred.
Has anyone got an idea what might be the problem?  If so, I would be grateful if you could clue me in here.

Maybe it's a safty issue. You should not be able to watch movies while driveing anyway. Does it work when the car is in netral or park and the emergency brake is on. In my lexus thats the only way the front DVD will work.

  • Aperture 3 Trial download

Can anyone help with my problem? I have just downloaded Aperture 3 and started to work with it. Many of the features work very well but the touch up brush for spot removal causes the photo to corrupt every time I try to use it. One touch with the brush is enough to lose 2/3 of the picture. I have tried reloading it several times but to no avail. I am not a pro just a keen amateur.Needless to say if I can not resolve this I will not be buying Aperture.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have not actually turned faces on yet as it is not of great importance to me. I have about 8000 photos which I believe is very modest compared to the catalogs of some of the pros. I am using a Macbook 2.2 with 4gig of ram. Since I posted the question i have once again reloaded to trial software. It did seem to work for a few minutes but then it crashed again. When I click on the image with the touch up brush 2/3 of the image simply disappears and the only way to get it back is to undo the brush strokes in the edit menu. Frustrating to say the least.

  • IMovie 11 - Still pics in project

I'm working on a movie project using stills. To my surprise, when adding a still which I had reworked in iPhoto (touch up, resized, etc.) it does NOT add the reworked version, but falls back to the original version. Curiously, when I select the picture in iMovie, it shows the reworked version but when I add it to the project it is the old version.
    What am I doing wrong?
It never happened in iMovie 9.
    Can anyone help me. Thanks.

Thank you for your help. I did try with iPhoto and it did work.
But what a job! I am working on a project using a lot of old digitalized slides, which ALL need to be reworked.
There must be another solution and as it never happened in iM 9, I think it is a problem of iM 11 along with the issue of setting durations.
Hopefully this will be solved soon.

  • Where do I go if experiencing a hardware issue abroad?

I am having what appears to be an issue with others as well (the volume down button, if only touched or brushed with a finger, automatically makes the volume shoot up uncontrollably). It's brand new. No restoring helps the issue. Every discussion board says to bring it to the genius bar and have it replaced, which sounds like a great idea. However, I am currently in the Netherlands, and there is not an Apple store here, only certified resellers. Vodafone said they can send it to Apple, but this seems a bit silly. Does anyone know a way to handle these types of things directly with Apple while aborad?

Warranty repair/exchange is valid only in the country of purchase, the exception being the EU which functions as a single "country".

  • Disabling Keyboard commands with itunes?

Does anyone know if it's possible to disable the keyboard commands for itunes? I'm trying to use other programs like Illustrator but whenever I hit keys like "apple+c" or whatever, it makes the itunes skip to the next track. Any advice would be appreciated ..
Oddly enough, this just started happening today ... i've never had a problem with this before

Hi, just bought a brand new imac 20inch 2.66 Intel mac with wired alu keyboard and I have just the exact same problem. When my itunes is opened and playing, I cannot type anything in another programm, because my itunes responds to that: skipping numbers, starting and pausing.
But... it's not only itunes. When I use iphoto, touching of lifting my keyboard will start random slightshows which are very hard to stop. Also typing some text in iphoto wil start and stop slideshows.
It seems like I only have to take a look at my keyboard and all kind of things are starting to happen. Also switching between spaces with ctrl and arrow keys make the mac do al kinds of weird things, except switching.
Further my wireless mightymouse is daily asking to be installed again. Weird!!?!
I called Apple Care, and I have already done the following things:
Checking the HD and repairing it
    Archive and install OSX
    Alt cmd P R
Formatting the entire computer and installing OSX again, incl. all the updates
All these things are not helping. The problem keeps existing.
Tomorrow I am going to call Apple Care again and hoping to have a solution. But I strongly believe the problem has to do with the keyboard.
Does anyone know a solution? Is it the keyboard?!?
    Please help me!!

  • Can you transfer pictures from an old ipod touch to a new ipod touch without having the old ipod touch or the photos in Iphoto?

I somewhat recently got a new ipod touch after my screen cracked and the people at an Apple store said it would be cheaper to buy a new device completely.  I followed everything they said about backing up my old device and when I went to pick up the new one, the store took the old one away.
Up until just a few days ago I did not realize Iphoto could hold pictures from your ipods.  Mine never did it automatically, nor did anything ever seem to have the option to do.  It just so happened that two days ago I was browsing the web when I noticed a website gave instructions on how to transfer photos.  So I tried it and it worked for my new ipod while all the new photos.
But I was wondering if I could somehow get the old photos back from Itunes or my computer somewhere and transfer them into Iphoto or my new device.  I was hoping that maybe if I could "back up" my old stuff onto my new ipod for a few moments it would show I have the old photos and I could transfer them into Iphoto and then restore the ipod touch back to what I have it currently.
If it helps, I'm pretty sure the old ipod touch I had was a 3gen as my new one I noticed was skinnier.  As I said, I do not have the old touch anymore but I have the data in Devices on my Itunes if that makes a difference.  Both my data for my old one and new one are in the Devices section of Itunes.
    Thanks,
    Dragonhatchling

Restore the new iPod from the backup of the old iPod:
How to restore from a backup
To restore information from a backup, use one of the following methods after connecting your iOS device to the computer with which you normally sync:
Right-click (or Control-click) the device and choose Restore from Backup
If you have a new phone, you can connect to iTunes and it will prompt to restore from your backup

  • How do I put a photo on to my iPod Touch from iPhoto

On my Mac Mini, running SL OSX 10.6.8, is iPhoto '09 v. 8.1.2. and iTunes v. 11.0.2. I've got an old iPod Touch 16GB running v. 2.2.1.
I want to move a photo from iPhoto onto my iPod Touch, which used to be simple. However, now when I open iTunes, the photo option is no longer there, so how do I move a photo on to my iPod now?
So I need to go back to an older version of iTunes?

When you plug in the iPod open up Iphoto on your Mac and then in the left hand column under devices you should see your iPod. Click on this then you will see all the photos on your iPod. Click on the photos you want to transfer and Voila there you go.
Besides, there are some articles about iPod Photo Transfer, which can help you transfer pictures from iPhone.
For Mac:How to transfer photo/picture from iPod to Mac
For PC: How to transfer or copy photos from iPod to PC
No need for any other progs Hope this helps

  • IPod Touch 64GB activated October 2013 - how do I get the free iLife, iPhoto and iMovie apps?

I purchased (from an authorised seller - Dixons Duty Free, Heathrow) and activated an iPod Touch 64GB on 18th October 2013 (prior to the announcement of free iLife, iPhoto and iMovie apps but after the 1st Sepember 2013 date in their conditions). It had iOS6 preinstalled. I've updated to iOS7. How do I get the free iLife, iPhoto and iMovie apps? The App Store is trying to charge me for theese.

Problem solved from information found in another thread....
If your iOS device was activated for the first time after September 1, go to the App Storeon your iPod which should open to Featured. If not, tap on Featured at the lower left of the screen & scroll down to Collections & tap on New to the App Store? then scroll down to Apps Made by Apple & tap. You should now see the iWork & iLife apps as "FREE."
