IPhoto 4.0.3 Freeze with Music Playing

I'm unable to play music with an iPhoto 4.0.3 album without having the screen freeze. Without music all plays normally, but not with music.

Just confirming similar experience, after upgrading my parent's G3 iBook with Tiger (10.4, archive and install). They had experienced no problems prior to the upgrade. I could not upgrade them to iLife 2006 (because they are G3 limited). So iPhoto is from Tiger, and iPhoto is from prior installation.
Slideshow experiments I tried this past weekend:
0) Slideshow sans music : WORKS
1) Slideshow with included sample music : WORKS
--a) FYI, contained with iPhoto.app special directory
--b) however, copying mp3 from iTunes library location to iPhoto sample music directory (using cp within Terminal) : FAILS (something strange with iTunes mp3s?)
2) slideshow with music within iTunes Library yields spinning beach ball : FAILS
--a) No music has originated from iTMS (therefore copy protection is not an issue)
--b) Newly imported mp3 from CD with iTunes 6.03: FAILS as above, so its not "old or corrupted" mp3
--c) copying "working" mp3 from sample music location (within iPhoto.app) to iTunes music library : FAILS, so possible problems accessing iTunes library/mp3?
Oddly enough, previewing music from the iTunes library within iPhoto works, so it seems like only the slideshow mechanism of playing music from iTunes library is broken.
Parents have left, so that is all I can add to this subject for the time being...
I'm sure they would be interested in the fix, if someone finds one,
John

  • Lacie HD freezes MBP13 // Problem with music played on TBD

    Hi all,
I have three questions related to my peripherals, below is my configuration:
    I'm using a MBP Retina 13 inch, Mid 2014, 3 GHz i7, 16 GB RAM, OS 10.10.2
I'm using a Thunderbolt Display 27" as external display
1.) A couple of weeks ago I purchased a Lacie d2 Thunderbolt 2 hard disk. When I connect the hard disk through USB connection everything works perfectly fine. However when I connect it via the Thunderbolt connection my MBP freezes and I have to reboot my computer. Does anyone experience similar issues and if so, how did you resolve them?
2.) Also, since I installed 10.10.2. when I play music on MBP over my TBD after 30-45 minutes the music is overlaid with a signal noise. When I pause the track that's currently being played it goes away. Any suggestions are welcome.
3.) Can I power up my MBP with my TBD? (I have not found guidance how to do it online, I assume it is not possible but hey, you never know)
    Thanks,
    JS

    Hi Smokerz,
Thanks for your reply. On number #3 that's how it do it now, however, I would have thought that there must be a way to start the MBP when connected to TBD through a keyboard combination or so. Apparently that is not an option and I have to take the MBP out of its stand. Not a big deal, just an inconvenience.
On #1: I'm surprised that TB should not be used like USB, I do it when I use the TB port to connect a projector and that works without any issues. I will certainly try your recommendation, but I'm under the believe that this should be plug and play.
Again thanks a lot for your reply.

  • Slide Show from iPhoto to Apple TV 2 with music

I have several slideshows that I've created in iPhoto and that have had music linked with the show. How do I access that with my Apple TV?

The Apple TV won't play music that you have associated with a slideshow in iphoto. You can either export the slideshow as a movie and add it to iTunes or add music to the slideshow from the Apple TV.

  • IPhoto 6.0.6 freezes with the spinning beach ball of death....

    Hi There,
Anytime I try to do anything too fast in iPhoto (scroll quickly, double-click on a photo), the application freezes up and the only thing I can do is force quit. Then, my whole computer moves slower until I reboot.
    Any suggestions?

    Some questions:
How much RAM do you have?
How big is your HD and how much free space on it?
Ensure that you have the latest version of the OS and Quicktime and the app. That's 10.4.9, 7.1.3 and 6.0.6 respecyively
    1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.
    4. Check your HD with Disk Utility

  • Album art not in sync with music played on my iPhone

I have re-synced, deleted my playlist and rebuilt them, still haven't found a solution.
On my computer in iTune, all is good, you play Mika, you'll see Mika as the album art.
On my iPhone, I hear Mika, I read Mika but I see the album art of Kate Voegele.
How can I get it back in sync?
    Thank you

I did not have this problem with my ipod touch
    I upgraded iTunes to 8.2.1
My iTunes PC artwork is beyond reproach.
    I synced my ipod touch.
Only those songs synced since 8.2.1 have incorrect artwork.
All those songs synced before 8.2.1 have correct artwork.
It is not songs added to iTunes since 8.2.1 but a song in my library which was synced to my ipod SINCE 8.2.1
The same problem exists on my iPod Classic 160.
Therefore this is not a firmware or an iPod issue.
Seems we have the smoking gun. Apple? New fix of iTunes please? This is one of the most annoying bug introductions yet.

  • Slideshow with Music?

Hello. I’m looking for some help with creating slideshows, with music, and creating a web page so it plays for friends (Mac or Windows users).
I can do the basics. I’ve selected a group of photos in iPhoto (6.0.4) and created a slideshow, then I selected Music. I clicked Play and was happy with the results. Now what?
By accident, my first slide show (while in iPhoto) encorporated a sound track (Sample Music - “Acoustic Sunrise.”) And when I played the show it looks and sounds great. But I am unable to replicate this for posting on the web.
When I select a group of photos from my Library and then select the “Create Slideshow” button, I get options that include Music. However, when I choose the iWeb button and use the drop down menu to select Photo Page, I no longer have the option to include music.
Likewise, if I Save a slideshow while in iPhoto, then go to Share - Send to iWeb, nothing happens. It is greyed out.
Soewhere along in this process I managed to Publish. But the published shows do not include the sound track. I can’t see any option for including music.
I’m confused. I’m trying to do anything fancy here. I just want to post what it is I am getting in iPhoto on my desktop so family-friends can view and hear. Help?

Noodlehead, I share your frustration & disappointment at the lack of elegant interface between iPhoto, Keynote, and iWeb. I am frustrated! I have spent all night creating a Keynote presentation to put up on iWeb for a state presentation. Although I was able to put a very clumsy version using QT, it's very unfriendly - no music, no controls. So I tried to export it as HTML. No can do uploading html to iWeb. So, I took those individual jpg files in iPhoto and made a slideshow with music. Cool! But again, there is absolutely no interface between iPhoto slideshows and iWeb. The support directions for Share: Mac Slides are great until you look for a Step 5: Connecting your slideshow to iWeb or even .Mac. Photocasting doesn't even allow people to go from one picture to the next with out clicking in and out of pictures (Click to view. Click to close pic. Mouse down to next pic. Click to open the next pic Click to close. Mouse click down ... AND there's no music that goes with . I'm thinking I could make an iMovie, but I am so afraid THAT won't upload either. I thought there was this elegant interface between iWork & iLife. Boy, am I WRONG! It looks sexy, but it turns out to be crack junkie. I've been up all night and all day now going from one dead end to another. IF anyone CAN HELP, PLEASE RESPOND. I think I'm going to try taking it into iMovie and then hopefully put that on iWeb. SAVE ME!

  • Slideshows with music and narrative

I have managed to create a slideshow using Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 with music playing in the background BUT I have also, on a few slides, added narrative.
The music plays over the narrative so please how do I 'break' the background music to allow the narrative to be heard and then after that allow the music to continue from where it had previously stopped.
I am using Windows XP Home but am hopeless with computers so please keep any advice extremely simple
Thank you for any assistance as this has been bugging me for ages.
    Brian Holland

The original message was returned so I will try again.
Computers - don't you just luv 'em!!
    Hi Barb,
I still cannot believe that you are still trying to help me with this problem. So thank you again but please do not spend too much time on it as I am beginning to think that what I hope to achieve is not possible.
I cannot see that I have Premier Elements 3 installed. I have looked at Start>All Programmes but it is not there.
I have opened up the slideshow and left clicked as you suggested and yes the Properties appear.
I clicked on a slide then clicked the Narrate button on the right of the screen and made a short narration.. I wanted that slide to be able to play the narration without the music in the background so I left clicked the music bar and then got completely lost as I dragged here and there the buttons to start and finish but without achieving my goal. The music remained in it's original place on the music line.
I expected there to show a distinct break between the music and the narration and the restart of the music. As I said earlier I don't think it can be achieved apart from placing a narrated slide at the very end of a piece of music and the dragging a new piece to start on the subsequent slide following that which had the narration. My it sound complicated especially to someone who had no experience of computers while at work.
Please do not burden yourself with further attempts as I fear we are embarking ion a vacuous exercise.
Many thank however for you valiant attempts,
    Regards,
    Brian.

  • Music playing while a homepage is open

    Hello All
I am creating a website website in iweb with my students music. I want to make a homepage that will open with music playing in the background, with the ability to turn it on or off. Can anyone assist me? It will be most appreciated!

Drag an audio track from the Media Browser in iWeb and place where you'd like it on the page. If you don't put an image in that area which says Drop image here, it won't show when published, just the controller.
Go to the Inspector/Quicktime pane and select the autostart checkbox. I also set the initial volume low so it won't blow out some unsuspecting visitor who might have their volume turned up for some reason.
This demo page has such an audio track and info on adding it: Embedtests

  • I've got a new iMac with Mountain Lion OS.  Created a slideshow complete with music in iPhoto.  Every time I try to export to iPhoto slideshow folder, it freezes.  Help!

I've got a new iMac with Mountain Lion OS.  Have created a slideshow complete with music in iPhoto, but every time that I try to export it to an iPhoto slideshow folder, it gets halfway through and freezes.  This has been going on for a couple of days.  I've tried opening iPhoto holding down the option key, but it doesn't make a difference.  Any advice, please?

    Upgrade to v9.4.1 or
Trash the HP Plug in from /Library/Application Support/iPhoto
There are two libraries where this plugin might be
    HD/ Library
    and
    HD/Users/Your Name / Library
(On 10.7 or later: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Will  an iPhoto slideshow with music work on all computers in China?

I am making a promotional DVD for an education program in the US, and taking it to China to education fairs. If it is an iPhoto slideshow with music, will it work on all Chinese computers? I assume so, because since it is not video, I should not have to worry about different formats-right? I've got enough to worry about on this trip!
    Prof. Fisher

On every single computer in China? Impossible to tell. But if you create a slideshow in iPhoto and send it to iDVD to be burned to a DVD then it will play on anything that plays DVD.

  • ATV iPhoto Slideshow with/Music

    Hi-
I recently purchased an Apple TV to show my iPhoto slideshows on my flat-screen TV. I am a wedding photographer and use the slideshows as part of my presentation to potential clients. These slideshows have music playing in the background and in iPhoto the music is set to loop until all of the pictures have been displayed. Unfortunately on my Apple TV the song plays once and then stops, for some reason it is not looping in the ATV as it does on iPhoto. I called Apple support and was told that is how it works. I find it hard to believe the that the ATV would display the slideshow different than how I have it setup on iPhoto. Anyone else experience this?
    Alex

That's odd, I'm able to loop a single song to my photo slide shows on my tv.  You can do this by creating a playlist in itunes on your computer that contains the song you want to loop.  Sync your playlist back to your tv.  Go to Photos from the tv menu and select Slide Show Preferences > Music, select the playlist that you just created in itunes with your song of interest for looping.   Back out of the music menu to Slide Show Preferences and set Repeat to "On" below the music menu.

  • Problems exporting slideshow with music from iPhoto 5 to iDVD

I made a slideshow on iPhoto, and selected one Playlist with 4 tracks as backgroundmusic. When I ¨play¨the slideshow in ¨iPhoto¨ I can listen the music ( all 4 tracks), but when I ¨export¨ the slideshow or ¨send to iDVD¨, the final Quicktime movie contains all the fotos but only the first track of the Playlist.
    I use Quicktime 7.1.3, iPhoto 5.0.4 and iTunes 7.0.2
Can somebody help me to find a solution...:)...? thanks...
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

this was a known problem with iPhoto 5. do you have the latest update to iPhoto 5?
Only one song exporting with Slideshows
With iPhoto 5 this seems to be a know problem/bug. There have been some work-arounds. Don't know if the problem is with iPhoto, Quicktime or a combo of both.
-From Bob Worthington: re-ripping the cuts I wanted as background music for the DVD as a single cut in iTunes. I then made a playlist containing the one extended cut of music.
-Old Toad: share to Quicktime from iPhoto and then import the resulting movie into iMovie you can extract and delete the audio from the video and add the two songs to the video and save.
Quicktime Pro-open the movie and bring up the Movie Properties menu window. In the top window select the audio track and delete it.
If you want more than one song you'll have to join them together with iMovie or some other application. Then open that joined file with QT Player. Then do a select all and copy. Now go to the QT window of the movie and select the Edit->Add to Movie menu option. You don't want to scale it because it will change the play speed of the audio unless it's time is exactly the same as the movie.
You could go the other way, open the movie, select all and copy, and then past with scaling to the audio. That will change the speed of the movie and transitions to fit the audio track. In this case the resulting video file will have the name of the audio track file that you started with.
You may have to play with it a bit to get exactly what you want. Be sure to work with copies of all the media files for the project.
-Peter Burtwistle: I opened the Qt movie that iPhoto makes when you export to iDVD and removed the sound track.
Then made a new soundtrack by opening all three songs in QT, then cutting and pasting them together.
Finally use QT Pro's 'Add to Movie" option to add the soundtrack to the original movie.
This worked well and was fast to do too.
-Joe Lombardo: I ended up having to extend the songs by 20 seconds so I brought them all into GarageBand and made some edits. Then I exported them all to iTunes as a single track and used that for the slideshow
From scotty321 at MacOSXHints.com: If you have Roxio Toast Titanium installed on your machine, you can join unprotected tracks yourself by simulating a disc burn. Simply take these steps:
Go to the Audio tab in Toast.
Drag your audio files from iTunes into Toast.
Reshuffle them in the proper order within Toast.
Go up to File: Save As Disc Image. Save your disc image somewhere on your Desktop.
Choose Utilities: Mount Disc Image. The CD will mount on your desktop, and iTunes will think that you just inserted a CD.
Within iTunes, select the tracks that you want to join and then use Advanced: Join CD Tracks.
Go through the import process, and you've got a joined track! Simply rename the track to whatever you want to call it, and you're good to go.
    From Lori...
    Burn the playlist in iTunes.
Make sure you have itunes Prefs just open the Cd and not automatically play or import the songs.
Insert the burned CD and iTunes will open.
Within iTunes, select the tracks that you want to join and then use Advanced: Join CD Tracks.
Go to Advanced>convert selection to AAC.
When done, make a new playlist named after the slideshow.
Put the new combined track into the playlist.
In iPhoto, select this playlist for your slideshow.
