Iphoto 4 books & help

First, I just wanted to find some more details about iphoto 4 books. Like in classic mode, what is the actual image size? It doesn't look very big. Second, are the photos just on one side of the page or both sides?
Next, my iphoto 4.0.3 help has been replaced by iphoto 5 help. I talked to a tech rep long enough to find out that he had dealt with this before and some file needs to be deleted but I haven't coughed up $50 or whatever to tell them how to fix something that one of their downloads likely created. What a bunch of ^$&^%(. Anyone know what to do?

Haven't found any information on V4's book options. You shouldn't base your upgrade decisions strictly on what you read here. They are only a small percentage of all the iPhoto users most of whom are not experiencing any problem at all. With proper preparation and system maintenance you and upgrade to iLife 05 successfully.
The book options of V5 so far exceed V4 that it's well worth it in my opinion.

IPhoto book help

When I order book a message comes up saying: Your book seems to have frames on one or more pages that do not contain photos. You must either change the layout of those pages or place photos in those frames before you can proceed with this book. Called Apple they said to make a new book. Wouldn't the same thing happen as I would be using my same photos.
I have checked all my pages for background pictures and they all have one. This is driving me nuts. Any help would be appreciated.

Check your page layouts for one like this as lèonie suggested:
The page may show a photo on it but the background also requires a photo. So change the layout to one of the color layouts.

I have been trying to buy a book project I have made in ipohoto. But when it's come to processing to upload the book it's freez after awhile .
I have tried like 6 times and the last time it have been completed apparently ! but froze for no clear reason and gave a message of error and if I would like to try agian or cancel the order . what should I do ?

if it is good boot into safe mode, preview again (only limited fonts are loaded in safe mode) and upload

Good morning Old Toad.
I did as you suggested:
1) Booted from install CD.
2) Ran Disk Utilities on internal hard drive--no repairs necessary. For good measure, did the same thing on external drive. Also no repairs necessary.
3) Checked software update--no updates found. About this Mac said I was already running 10.4.7. For good measure, I downloaded the latest and installed it. Since it let me run the install, I'm not sure if I installed something new or reinstalled what I already had.
4) I rebooted from CD, ran disk utilities, ran repair disk--no repairs necessary. Repaired permissions and a lot of permissions repaired.
5) Tried to delete the files and the same old thing happened: kernel panic. The specific message:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0x00102A08): jnl: transaction too big (1587712 >= 1572352 bytes, bufsize 8192, tr 0x29f1fb0 bp 0x2801de40)
So there's no change in my status.
I'm trying to delete the files because:
A) They already take .5 Gb.
B) I can't get rid of them ever. If I move the problem files to a different folder, I can only do one successful drag-and-drop backup to the external drive until the "new" thumb segments become unerasable just like the previous versions and crash the system.
C) I can't even "just" drag and drop every file/folder except the thumbs, because that ends up crashing the system as well. So I have to drag and drop every file/folder in the iPhoto hierarchy individually. Which makes me less inclined to backup, which defeats the purpose of a backup.
D) After the iPhoto fiasco I'm just crabby about all the Apple screw-ups I'm experiencing and I want to get them fixed.

I hit vertical text in my iPhoto Book and now I can't change it back, help!!

I am creating an iPhoto Book, and wanted some vertical text, so I highlighted my text and selected "vertical". It didn't go vertical, but now any time I highlight any text I can't see it, and I can't change the setting back, nor can I find any help anywhere on this topic. Please help!!

This may have helped iTunes (it can see the iPhoto library - not sure if it could before, hadn't tested it). iMovie still doesn't see the library though. Instead, it sees a library on the internal disk with nothing in it -- there's actually no library there. iMovie shows the external disk, but does not show an iPhoto library on it.

Help. Need iPhoto Book Specs / Anyone who has order a book or knows?

I'm getting ready to scan my color photos and then place an order for a iPhoto book. I'll set my scanner to decrease or enlarge (75%..100%.. 200%) for whatever size I need. I need to know the specs the photos should be scanned at for max quality and / or the order requirements.
300 DPI CMYK TIFF? (regular offset printer specs)
72 DPI RGB JPEG?
Or other?
Does it matter if it's a TIFF or JPEG? Tiff's can be uncompressed so perhaps better quality, but larger file size to send when ordering a book.
Is there a max about of total megs the book can be or not be for it to be accepted when ordering? Is there a max meg size that I need to stay under for each image?
I'm not looking for a long theory on dpi and ppi, I know all that, just need to know the requirments for these iPhoto books. I'm almost certain it's the first, offset printer specs. Just want to double check before I scan.

Yes. 300 DPI is the standard for printing on an offset press. So is CMYK. I'm positive the printing company that Apple is using is converting the .pdf files to a CMYK profile that matches their printing press. This is the only way for them to make the 4 color plates. If you look at an sRGB image on screen it may look great but when printed in CMYK, as the books are printed, it might look darker.

To test this, open an sRGB image in PS and go Image > Mode > Convert to profile. Select US Sheet Fed Coated or US Web Coated. You can see how the color shifts. Usually CMYK is darker than RGB. Dark details in an RGB image that looks acceptable can get muddy when printed on an offset printing press in CMYK.
From what I've learned in graphic arts, printers suggest if you're concerned about color shifting, then do the image correction in CMYK and placing images in your document in CMYK. That way you have a better representation of what the final image will look like once it's printed. (aside monitor calibration) This is the standard procedure that I'm familiar with when working with images that will be printed in brochures and catalogs and so on.
Questions:
How did you find out that the images MUST be sRGB?
What would happen if you used a corrected CMYK image?
Did you compare your actual sRGB image to the final printed book and see if there was a color shift?
The reason for my concern is that I have some old photos that have bad shadow detail and color shifted with age. In sRGB they look okay but when they get printed on the CMYK press I'm concerned they might get muddy in dark areas. This is why I wanted to correct them in CMYK, get them to look good, then place them in the book.

what I did with my system was following:
1. Update your software.
2. Restart your computer.
3. Make sure all applications are closed.
4. Open iPhoto or Aperture.
5. While all other applications are closed, preview your print product as a
PDF.
6. Resubmit your order.
and still my PDF ibook file looked like my photos were scratched across the photos. Please help:)

Yes me too!!
I thought that I had done someting wrong. The first time it was my first attempt so I did not preview the photobok (did not know this trick). When I did the cover photos were completely ruined with lines and code.
The second time I changed everything and even made a different sized book - thinking my photo files were too big. I dutifully previewed before buying the book and everything was fine. Then a few days later got the usual e-mail message from Apple. When I previewed the project again ALL of the photos were corrupted.
What to do - I need to get the photobook to friends to celebrate their engagement!
If I saved the pdf then submitted this would that work??
Any thoughts - I am working on a large project and do not want to go any further if all the work will be ruined on buying the book.

I made one iphoto book and it turned out great! However, now I am trying to make another one and I can not get the photos to 'stick' on the page. I watched the video over and over trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I've been trying to figure this out for over a week. Please help!

first - you are in edit mode - only one large page (maybe part of a second one too) on the screen?
Try quitting and restarting your computer and see if that helps
If not renew your iPhoto preference file -
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

HT5525 Help adding text to the bottom of iPhoto book pages?

Hi -
I am working on a deadline (of course) to get an iPhoto book done for my parents' anniversary.
I have my photos placed, and have planned well to know how many characters can fit into each space below and next to photos in the text boxes provided.
I just tried my first page... it's a 6-photo page, with a little box at the bottom for a blurb.
When I click on it, it lights up blue, suggesting the space I have to work in.
Now, the frustrating part: As I start to type, it starts on the left side of the bottom of the page, but I only get about half-way across, and some invisible TAB seems to be in the text box. It starts my next word on the next line. I tried to use the align button, but even if I center the text, it stays on the far right side of the page, and significantly limits the number of words/characters I can use. Even if it causes me to be brief, which I can do, these tabs cause the look of the page to be out of balance.
Do you have any idea how I can get rid of tabs??

Major help needed! Saving iPhoto book as a working file

I am a student teacher and I am teaching a lesson on Friday that uses iPhoto book. My cooperating teacher has asked me to create an iPhoto book template for the students to use to make the activity easier for them. I have created the template book but realized I have no idea how to save it as a working file that can be transferred from one computer to the students' laptops.
I know there are some tutorials from a user named Old Toad for this; however, I am not typically a mac user, so I found those directions sort of confusing. I need very clear and explicit directions on how to do this if I can. Thanks so much.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The Photobooks are templates.
The only way to move a book to another computer is to move the Library that contains it. This is because the book is an entry in the database and there is no ay to share it.
