IPhoto 4: sorts descending only - want ascending

IPhoto used to sort the photos in ascending date order - meaning that the pictures are in chronological order.
Suddenly, they are always in reverse chronological order.
I've tried to sort by date, and a few other tricks, but I can't seem to get the sort back to the correct chronological order.
I need an exact procedure please.
Please do not offer suggestions on how to sort by Title or name. I merge photos from several cameras, so the names are not dependable enough for sorting, and I don't have time to rename every file or drag-and-drop them to the correct sequence. I must use the timestamps from the photos.
Thanks in advance.

Just asked, and just found.
Go into the preferences and uncheck the "Place most recent photos on top" box.

Apple TV sorts my photos only in ascending order, how can I change so the most recent EVENTS appear first?

I'm looking for an answer to this, too, since I have thousands of Events, and so scrolling down to the bottom every time I want to show my newest photos makes it almost unusable.

To see all the photos on the phone, including photos that have already been imported into iPhoto, deselect the "Hide Photos Already Imported" checkbox. If the camera contains photos that have already been imported into iPhoto, those photos are hidden by default.

  • New iMac - only want iTunes & iPhoto

My friend just got a brand new 27" iMac. She has a 2008 Mac Pro that she only wants iTunes (including her iPhone & iPad backups) and iPhoto from. Best way to do this?
I'm thinking just transfer the two libraries to an external drive and then drag the content to the new iPhoto and iTunes.

The option you have proposed is the best one you can do. Just copy both iTunes and iPhoto libraries to an external drive. Then, connect this external drive to her iMac and copy them to the folders where she wants to save them, and then, open iPhoto and iTunes holding the Option (Alt) key in order to select the library she wants to use with these applications.
In the case of iTunes, you should follow these steps to transfer that library > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1751

  • IPhoto: Sorting is only done Globally for Entire Application

Currently, iPhoto allows the user to sort photos by Date, Keyword, Title, or Rating. But it does this globally for all of the Events in the application. There should be a choice to do this either globally, or for a specific Event. For instance, I have one Event (album) of my wedding, where I want the photos in chronological order. I have another album of friends and family headshots that I use for my Address Book, which I want in alphabetical order by name. The problem is that if I sort by name, everything in iPhoto gets sorted that way, so my wedding album starts with pictures from the honeymoon and is all out of order. You get the picture. Anyone have any work-arounds for this?

'Events' are a collection of photos from a certain event
Events are a collection photos grouped by the time there were taken at. Iphoto has no way of knowing what contents of the photos actually is. Albums, on the other hand, can be used to group photos by any way you choose - by the people in them, the location, the rating, the camera model... just about any way you can think of. Albums can draw photos from many Events and so are much more flexible.
Currently (since photos are already grouped as Events), if a person had to go to the trouble of creating a new Album for each new Event just to be able to be able to sort photos a certain way for that Event, it would be very tedious and time consuming.
Yes, dragging an Event to the Album heading is very time consuming.
I think a much simpler method would be to give the user the ability to sort photos in each Event the way they want to sort them for that Event

  • Change sorting in Finder from ascending to descending and keyboard shortcut

    Hallo,
can someone point me in the right direction of how to change sorting in Finder from ascending to descending and what are the corresponding keyboard shortcuts?
I am already using the ctrl-cmd+number key shortcuts to modify my sorting, and a Google search produced the answer that I can change from ascending to descending by hitting the key-combination again. But it does not work ...
    Any help ;-)  ?
    Thank you !

Never heard of a keyboard command to toggle the sort sequence from ascending to descending and back.
The usual way to change it is to click the highlighted column name in the Finder window.

Why are my photos sorted alphabetical in iPhoto (which is what I want)  but in date order on my iPhone & iPad?

One for the iPad or iPhone forums I would guess. There is no iPhoto for iOS

  • I cannot download new photos to iPhoto because I have only limited space left in iPhoto. That is the message each time when I want to download.

After I transferred most of my photos and videos to an external hard drive and afterward to the trash can, that I have emtied, I still get the same message from iPhoto that I have only limites space left. What should I do? I read that  the photos are being stored still on the computer's hard drive ( I have never used Time Machine) but I cannot find them? I would like to know where they are being stored so I  could delete them. I would appreciate your comments on this issue.

How big is your HD? How much free space on it?
You delete photos from iPhoto via the iPhoto Window.

  • IPhoto 11 Sort Issue

I recently upgraded to iPhoto 11 from 8.2. iPhoto 11 keeps putting my events in oldest first to newest last order, even though I have gone into "View", and "Sort Events" and set it to sort event by date descending. It sorts them, but after I exit iPhoto it puts them back into ascending oder. Is there a way to keep it in descending order?

There is no "official answer". The solution depends on why the crash occurs.
Post the first 50 lines only of the crash report

  • IPhoto photo sorting under View

I cannot get my folders to ascend and descent...when I import them into my computer they go to the bottom. I want them in descending order. Is there a bug? A new update? Thanx
    Kathy

    Kathy:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. When you're in the Photos mode with the Event titles displayed the sort options are referring to the photos within each event folder. The events in that window are sorted by date ascending, i.e. the oldest at the top. To get the events to sort how you want go to the Events mode and change the sort there.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Iphoto album sort order issue.

Stadard iphoto album (iphoto 11) being manually sorted suddendly reverted to what appears to be a random sort order.  The order now is not by date, camera, keyword, or any other.  It appears to have set its own manual order.  How can this happen? Is there a way to revert back to the previous sort order?  Even if I had mistakenly reset the manual sort, wouldn't it default back to one of the standard sort criteria?

want to replace the original photos in the event
You don't have to.  If you look at the photo in the Event that tghe photo came from you'll find that it has been edited.
The photos in albums are only pointers to the original photo in the Event.  There's no file duplication in the process of adding a photo to an album.

I did not create the file to be read-only. I created to be able to continue to add to it as I work on it.

  • HT201302 Old iphone 3g has photos on it. When I plug into my imac iphoto and image capture only bring up photos in the camera roll. There were more photos on albums and photo library on the iphone that arent showing up in iphoto and icapture.

My old iphone 3g has photos on it. When I try to get the photos off and onto my imac iphoto and image capture only bring up the camera roll. I have more pictures that arent on the camera roll there are albums and a photo library full of pictures that I want off of this dang phone. I have tried everything and I cant email them to myself because the service has been cut off of the phone. They are stuck on the phone there is there any way to get them off? Am I missing something.

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  It simply mirrors the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.
Again, the photo sync is one way.
Did you fail to maintain a backup copy of your old computer?
Not good.  You can e-mail the photos from your iphone.  You do not need to have phoe service for this.  The iphone uses wi-fi.  The photos will never be of the original quality, as they are reduced when synced to iphone.

Generally I would not use Facebook for sharing any photos, it compresses the photos substantially, and when you have shadows and dark colours you get visible "bands" where there should be subtle gradients, ie at sunsets and sunrises.
It sounds like you are using two methods to upload to Facebook:
    1. Sharing from within Aperture, which basically syncs Facebook with your Aperture album, so any changes made at either end gets synced, hence the deletions from Albums, although the original file should still be in your library, just removed rom the album. It is like a playlist in iTunes.
    2. Exporting pics and uploading to Facebook from the browser.
I am not sure how method 1 gets compressed, but I know that uploading hi-res jpegs to Facebook using method 2 results in poor quality images.
I wouldn't even bother comparing option 1 or 2, and they will both be poor images once you view them on Facebook, as opposed to viewing uploaded images on proper image sharing / hosting sites.
Your problem is not with Aperture, it is using Facebook for showing your work.
If you export pics form Aperture at high res jpegs or TIFFs your images will be fine.
If you insist to use Facebook as your way to share your work, then your workflow should be this:
    1. Right click images you want to share.
    2. Select Export version.
    3. Export as 100% size and ensure the export settings are set at 100% quality.
    4. Upload this pic into Facebook.
This will get you the best image size and resolution on Facebook.
    See how you go.

Thanks for that. Much more constructive than the last comment. It's only the restriction code I can't recall, not the access passcode. So I can currently access the device, just not age restricted content. Does that's make a difference? I also wondered if anyone knew how many attempts you get to try to get it right. Now tried 21 times and so far nothing bad has happened but I am concerned I'll eventually be completely locked out of the device. That doesn't seem in the spirit of things though. Surely it's foreseeable that a child could repeatedly try to guess the code so I can't see that it would be right to lock the device down completely in that circumstance, particularly if the access code is being typed in correctly every time.
    Thanks
