Iphoto 5 and Epson R300

I recently upgraded to 10.5.5 but still have iphoto 5 and also Photoshop 8. Now when I got to print a photo from these applications it wont let me alter the print settings - the applications crash giving this error message;-
EXCBADACCESS (SIGBUS)
KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE at 0.0000000000000008
CRASHED THREAD ZERO
Usually I can alter the hue, and the type of paper etc in the settings but now I cant. Is this another compatibility problem since upgrading to 10.5.5?
I have downloaded the lastest drivers already from Epson.
Any help most appreciated.

Thanks for responding. I managed to fix the problem with permissions by copying the plist from one of the other creative suite programs over to Photoshop. Then I was able to get an update from Epson so my printer is working now...however since the new Epson update I am now unable to use compatible ink catridges. Meh.

  • Iphoto and epson printer not talking

I am using the latest iphoto 6 on an intel 20 imac. the printer is the epson stylus photor1800 with firewire connection. I can't get the two to work together. I can't print photos. i get the "!" alert. the printer stops, this is seen in printer setup utility. In the print browser I have selected epson firewire. when i click on resume or start jobs, nothing happens.
the printer works with other applications e.g. photoshop elements4, textedit and preview. is it the firewire connection? i have the option of connecting with usb cable.

This may seem a bit obvious! I had the same problem with that printer and it turned out that I had not pushed the ink cartridges down far enough until they clicked into position!
\Work ok after that EXCEPT I cant get it to print A3 yet. Iphoto does not give me the option to select A3. Have you cracked it yet?

  • Problems printing using iPhoto and Epson Stylus Photo R2400

I'm using OS 10.5.6 and iPhoto 8.0.2(402) to print pictures on my Epson Stylus Photo R2400.
I have other printers set up on this computer and they all print everything just fine regardless of the program I am using.
Using the Epson Stylus, I'm able to print from any other program than iPhoto.
When I try to print pictures from iPhoto, I get the error message...
can't open ` /private/var/spool/cups/tmp/4a18c65407c9b (the numbers at the end changes each time I try to print.
When I go in to check the folders out to see what might be causing the problem, the permissions on the folder cups and tmp have the following rights set up. system = Read & Write, _lp = No Access, everyone = No Access.
I've been able to set the everyone setting to equal Read & Write access, but I can't get the _lp access to change. When I reboot the computer, the everyone setting goes back to No Access.
Any ideas for how I can get this to work?
    Thanks,
    Bill

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't have a tried and true fix for that but I would start with dumping the printer driver via the System/Print pane and then reinstall it. Go to the Epson site to download the latest driver for that particular model in case there's a newer one released.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • IPhoto and Epson Photo RX620

When I scan and copy on my Epson Photo RX620 I get near picture perfect copies, but when I send pictures from iPhoto to the same printer, the pictures come out dull. The pictures in iPhoto are 3.5 mega pixels. What can I do to have the printer bring out the true color of the pictures from iPhoto?

my earlier IPhoto automatically automatically copies photos to Epson FIlm Factory when I downloaded from my camera,
Does it? No version of iPhoto that I know did? do you mean it was set as an external editor?
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor)as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically.

  • Problem to print with iPhoto and epson stylus photo RX620

I asked a question about the print with Iphoto. Larry gave some explainations but it still doesn't work. I can change the reglages with Safari, with Mail but not with Iphoto. So when I try to print photos, the reglage is standard and the result is bad. I would like to change the reglage, if i use glassy photo paper. With my PC, I have no problem to print with window or picassa. Thanks for your answer.

Please help...I'm a new user...how do i print- select paper Epson options and make colour adjustments using iphoto and  Epson Stylus Pro 3800 with Printer Driver v8.64

  • Epson R300 prints photos very dark and oversaturated

My Epson R300 recently began printing photos much darker and heavily saturated relative to what I see on my monitor. It seems to print ok directly from a CompactFlash. Photos I printed in the past no longer print good. I tried different programs (iPhoto and Photoshop) and print settings. I replaced all cartridges and reset the driver using Print Setup Utility. Any idea what I can try? Thanks.

Have you checked that the ColorSync profiles are OK,
and have not been changed? Use the ColorSync Utility
    to check them.
This appears to be a printer problem and not a setup issue. The printer worked good for nearly 2 years. The color isn't just a little off. All colors are very dark like too much ink is being delivered to the paper.
There is a definite red cast to whites in photos. Printing directly from a CF card (bypassing my computer) shows the same problem. I deleted and reinstalled the drivers. Tried all of the various settings. With/without Colorsync, printer color vs photoshop color. Tried iPhoto vs Preview vs Photoshop. Epson Print vs Gimp Print. Replaced all cartiridges. Used different paper types (Glossy Photo, Matte). Very frustrating!
Is 2 years the lifetime of an inkjet printer?

  • Printing  photos on the epson r300

o.k. I have an epson r300... From i-photo I tried to print a 5x7 and got a 2x3 instead. the settings are on us letter, standard and the 5x7 is also selected, with one print per page, on print page. But everytime i try to print it gives me a stinking 2x3 instead...after banging my head on the counter a few times i decided to post this and see if anyone has any answeres to this dilema???? thnx dan

    Dan:
Give this a try. I works for the R200 and should for the R300. Just change 4x6 to 5x7 in each step.
Steps for printing 4 x 6 prints from iPhoto:
crop the photo to 4 x 6 beforehand in iPhoto.
in Page Setup select your printer, proper page orientation and 4x6 or 4x6 borderless
click once on the picture you want to print to make sure it's selected.
now click on the Print button in iPhoto.
in the iPhoto print window, select your printer again, select Style = "Standard Prints", Size= 4x6 and click on One photo per page.
    click on the Print button.

  • Print quality with Aperture and Epson RX580

    Hi all,
I feel like I've tried everything, but I just can't get Aperture (the latest version with all the updates) to print from my MacBook Pro on my Epson photo printer the way I could from other photo software on my old PCs.  On my old PCs, when I would print a photo from Canon DPP or Capture One, or even the Windows photo management software, I get a rich menu of dialogue boxes for the Epson printer offering different qualities of prints, different papers to choose from, "photo enhancement," and lots of other options.  Prints came out sharp, colorful, and just great.
When I print from Aperture, I get none of these options (I get color management and resolution, and that's about it).
When I print from Aperture, I get vertical lines in the prints, visible dots, and pixellation.  So what I do is email the "exported" versions to my daughter's PC laptop and print from there -- and get good results.  Boy, that's a pain.
Surely Aperture can do better than this.  So what am I missing?  Any ideas for what I should be doing?
    Thank you.

Canon MP990 and Macbook pro (os X snow lep.. and Lion) - Lines in prints in Aperture.
While a bit vague I got there and found the distinction between the printer driver managing it and the printer managing the photo quality causing the issues.
I could only transfer the pic's to iphoto and print for ( admitedly about the same time of more than a year).
    The FIX
in the first window after selecting print scroll down to rendering and select printer managed.
Select all the other settings you need then select print on the right bottom of this window.
This next dialogue box at the bottom is a show details button then a new set of menus are present (initial is layout in a pull down menu)  select color matching then automatic ( you can change this but it worked so if it is not broken I'll play later ).
You should have clear prints with no lines...

  • I cannot print from iphoto and I desperately need to!

I have an Epson Stylus Photo 1400, connected directly to my macbook with a USB. Up until yesterday it worked perfectly fine.
Yesterday when I tried to print in iphoto, the printer status said "stopped". Even after I clicked "resume" it would still say "stopped.
I spent 2 hours on the phone with Epson support. I uninstalled my printer, reinstalled it, deleted the drivers, reinstalled the drivers, ran some kind of error check on my harddrive, just about everything imaginable. Then he spoke with a supervisor who said that they've heard of this problem before, and it is an iphoto issue, not an Epson issue.
He said that it could be avoided by clicking "customize" on the first print screen, and going through that step before printing. I tried that while I was on the phone with him and it worked.
Well, today I opened iphoto to print- followed his instructions- and I'm having the same problem. I am an artist and I sell art prints that I print on this printer-- I've already sold some that I need to print, but I can't! I don't have an alternate printer to use, since this is for wide-scale prints. I really need to print, and I have no clue what to do!!
It's been over 90 days since I purchased my macbook (I purchased in April) so I can't call tech support without purchasing some kind of extra support package? Help!!!!!!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First, try the universal iApp fix: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Launch iPhoto and try again.
A modification on Dayla's workaround would be to do a print to PDF. That would set the page and image size you selected in iPhoto. Then Preview can print to the paper size you want and it should be almost as printing directly from iPhoto.
Do you have Photoshop? If so I suggest you print from it as you will have much more control over the color management that with iPhoto.
You can set up PS to be the editor of choice in iPhoto as follows:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

  • How to Setup Epson R300 to Mac Pro

I use a mid - 2012 Mac Pro; run Mavericks OS X 10.9.3.  I have an Epson R300 that is incompatible with 10.9.3; but according to Epson I may be able to setup my R300 to my Mac Pro buy one of three ways:
    1. USB:  Connect your product to your Mac using a USB cable.
    2. Wireless:  You'll need to download and install the "Epson Wireless Setup" utility to establish the connection to your router.
    3. Ethernet:  My Epson printer does not have an Ethernet connection so this one is ruled out.
I am trying number 1: USB.  I downloaded the Apple "PrinterProxy Version 9.0 (447)" and ran the software.  Whenever I try to print something I get the following:
    "Stopped - Unsupported colorspace = -1, 1 page"
What should I do to print with the above mentioned Epson printer, if possible?

sorry, Angel L, I don't know what "PrinterProxy" is, but according to Epson's website, the latest driver was released 09-25-2013, the print cd utility was released on 08-01-2013. For printer drivers, just do a "software update' from the Apple menu, if an update comes up, install it, , then grab the print CD utility and install that . Epson's position is that it's in Apple's hands now.  If you want updated drivers, your best best would be, I suppose, do the "software update" thing.
So, you'd have to go into printing and scanning, under system preferences, delete the printer, then click on the Plus sign to add one, then choose the Epson driver.  then finish. If you have a printer proxy set up, from within the print dialog, hold down the Command and Option keys while selecting your desired printer from the popup button. Unfortunately, the article I got this info from mentions 10.6/10.7 and nothing about 10.9.  Don't know why you need a printer proxy, anyways,  but there's lots of stuff I don't know. See if you can delete the PrinterProxy and print via usb. Other than that, maybe Gimp Print?
sorry,  I tried, but the crystal ball has gone dark

  • Alert message freezes iPhoto and iMac

Most of the time when I try to work in iPhoto, a message appears "Alert... photo cannot be found". Cancelling brings up another alter message regarding another photo - these photos are ones that I did not want to keep and deleted/moved-to-trash etc. at some point in time. After receving the alter message, the only way I can continue to work on my computer is to "Force Quit" - cancelling does not help nor can I quit iPhoto through File.
    Questions:
    1. How can I prevent or delete the alter message so that I can work in iPhoto and/or continue to work on my iMac without having to force quit?
    2. I didn't receive an answer in Editing and Organizing section, so, do you have a suggestion of other programs which work better and more smoothly for iMac than iPhotol?

    DDD:
I've read your other thread regarding wanting to get back to a normal library. Have you done so and are now just trying to deal with some leftover alias files in the library? I don't think you're going to be able to resurrect the current library as it is/was because the dB file is looking for files that are not there. Unless you can point each alias file to its source file you're going to have to start over with those full sized files in the Originals folder. This is assuming you've imported those original source files for the alias library.
If that's the case then here's one approach you can try.
1 - move the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop and move the Originals folder out of the iPhoto Library folder on the desktop also.
2 - open the Originals folder in the Finder and type Command-F.
3 - in the search window set the criteria to:
    Kind = Any
    Size is less than 10KB
4 - in the search results window will be all of the alias files in the Originals folder.
5 - select all of those files in the search results window and drag to the Trash.
6 - launch iPhoto and, when asked, opt to create a new library.
7 - drag the cleaned out Originals folder into the open iPhoto window.
This will import your full sized image files and get you back with a working library. The rolls in the new library will be close to the same rolls as your first library. The dates on the rolls may differ.
Once you get the new library up and running just remember not to move, rename or edit any of the files in the iPhoto LIbrary folder directly from the Finder. That's the cardinal sin of iPhoto. Just do all your organization and editing from within the iPhoto application and you should be OK from here on out.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

    Hi, I have a year old imac - tiger - photoshop CS3 -
I have a printer Epson R300 that worked Great! with my older mac/older photoshop.
I have tried many things to try to get a decent print.
I scan in paintings using bright colors with lots of details in the color.
All the prints come out not great, when this printer used to give me beautiful prints with older mac.
Am I barking up the wrong tree?
Does the R300 just not cut it with this new spiffy computer?
I wish i never got rid of my other computer. It was slow, but great.
I have done considerable research and tried things and made notes on my prints. All prints are substandard from my point of view.
Any help would be appreciated. I need the step by step help.
I'm not that good at computers.

Odds are very high that the problem is not with your OS (assuming you are on 10.4.11), your Mac or the Epson printer (assuming that you have recently downloaded and re-installed the very latest Epson driver).
