Iphoto 5 is endlessesly "Loading Photos"

I was attempting to restore Iphoto 5 from the Imac G5 restore discs after someone decided to drag it to the trash and delete it. The software appears to be installed, but when launched, it endlessly sits at "Loading Photos".
I have deleted the album, the entire Iphoto library, all receipts in /Library/receipts, and the plist file.
I have also tried clearing the chaches and repairing permissions.
It recreates the plist file and library, but still is stuck on "Loading Photos"
I have tried to reinstall numerous times with no luck. I want to avoid having to wipe and reinstall the OS just to get one Ilife app to work properly.
Any help would be appreciated.

I would like to thank everyone for their help. I did manage to solve my problem. I will detail my fix down here in case it can help someone else.
I used the Console.app to monitor what was going on when iPhoto was locking up with "Loading Photos" and I got this error message:
* +[CIPlugIn _addPlugIn:allowNonExecutable:]: selector not recognized
I then did a "less /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppleAppSupport.framework/Versions/Current/Re sources/version.plist" from the terminal and saw that the version # was 1.2 and NOT 1.4 like it should be.
So I used the first restore disk and
"sudo mv /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppleAppSupport.framework /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppleAppSupport.framework.old"
"sudo cp -pr Volumes/Mac\ OS\ X\ Install\ Disc\ 1/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/"
Everything appears to be working fine.

  • IPhoto stuck on "Loading photos"

Hi everybody! Hope you can help me. Once I click on iPhoto it opens iPhoto window, but just gets stuck staying "Loading photos" with a wheel that just keeps turning. Im using iPhoto version 6.0.6. The last thing I did using this program was to upload pictures. I left iPhoto on all night, but still found it saying "Loading photos" the next morning. Also tried to look through others posts, but my iPhoto version seems newer than theirs. Would appreciate your help. Thanks

    apldapple:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If smtr's suggestion doesn't not clear up the problem try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist. Then launch iPhoto and see if it will open OK.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto 5.04 "Loading photos ..." on startup, library never loads

iPhoto 5.04 displays "Loading photos ..." when started but nothing ever loads, have left it 15+ minutes. Activity Monitor shows it using cpu, does not appear to hang, responds to a Quit ok.
This is 10.4.3 on a 20" g5 imac, 2gb memory (pre-isight version). Had been working fine, nothing new attached or installed. Have recently done a lot of imovie/idvd work, that's about all that's different in usage.
Have removed the iphoto library folder, so it should simply create a new library when it opens.
    Console log has this msg:
2005-12-14 07:48:57.242 iPhoto[144] Exception raised during posting of notification. Ignored. exception: * -initForReadingWithData: nil argument
(Dont know what it means but doesnt look good.)
System log does not appear to have any pertinent messages.
There is no ~/Library/Cache file for iphoto. Have removed all user prefs for iphoto, idvd, and imovie.
    Ditto on a Safe Boot.
Works fine for all other users on the system.
There's been a bit about this on MacFixit but nothing definitive.
    Ideas? Thanks.

Thanks, Mr Toad! Actually seemed to be a permissions problem somewhere in the library. Fixed by doing a GetInfo on iPhoto Library and forcing permissions on everything contained therein. I think perhaps another user had done something in the library after opening iPhoto with the opt key and changing to this library. Still have to sort that out. (Trying to somewhat share libraries among users.) Was able to get a default new library finally by blowing away the old library and all the users' preferences (saved off of course). So not quite as weird as the version problem created by Pacifist. Thanks for that link, tho, very interesting and a good note to hang onto.

  • Iphoto hangs on 'loading photos . . .'

    hi
it seems several people are having this same issue - I tried all of the recommendations in other threads and none seem to be working
    (including:
    - rebuild library
    - create new library
    - install iphoto library manager)
thank you in advance for any help

"library can't be rebuilt. An iPhoto library database has not yet been created in this library folder.
I wonder if this would have anything to do with the fact that you zipped the Library?I think you need to unzip it.
Also, once this is done, do I need to reinstall iPhoto?
My guess is no. The problem is with the Library, not the application.
And would you recommend archive these photos on a DVD? Thanks.
You should have a back up, yes.
My concern is that in your various efforts to solve the problems that you may have an unrecoverable Library.
In thar scenario, see ths article

for detials on how to recover your pics nadand start over.

  • Can't get iPhoto'9 to load photos from camera chip

I can't get my iMac to download photos from the camera chip. The camera chip is a 4GB SD Dane-Elec HC. I am trying to load the photos using an IOGEAR external device.
This method has been working fine when I try to download photos from a 2GB chip of the same name. But with the 4GB chip, nothing happens

Likely the IOGEAR device is not compatible with 4GB (or higher) cards. Try another card reader or read directly out of the camera with the card installed.

  • Iphoto 6 will not load photos

Everytime i open Iphoto it says "loading photos" but never does. i hev to close it down. Next time I oen it the same thing happend. This started after I downloaded some photos from a media card through my HP1600 printer. Part way through the download I realised i was not in my account and changed to my own. Then it went wrong. I have deeted all the photos that were downloaded but cannot open the library. Any ideas please.

    stambridge:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try download and run BatChmod on both the iPhoto Library folder and the folder with the new photos from the HP 1600 with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to each folder or just drag them one at a time into that field and click on apply.

  • Loading Photos-won't complete

iPhoto won't load photos while attempting to open program. I loaded about 150 pics today from Koday EasyShare program. I also had a "iPhoto crash" today while attempting to share these photos.
Since then, I've loaded iLife 05 and upgraded iPhoto, but this didn't help.
    Help.

    Same problem. Iphono continually freezes.

  • My iphoto will not load, all it does when i open it is just show a blank iphoto and won't load any of my photos that were already in there.

My iphoto will not load, all it does when i open it is just show a blank iphoto and won't load any of my photos that were already in there. Any way to fix it ?

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • How do I load photos & Music to my iPhone 3G from iPhoto /iTunes?

How do I load photos & Music to my iPhone 3G from iPhoto /iTunes?
If I want to use photos as wallpaper on the phone do they have to be resized or can I just load them?

With your iphone plugged into itunes go to the tables for music, photos, etc and set to sync with the album, playlist you want.
Sounds like you might need to read the owners manual:

  • HT1040 trying to make an ibook and have 800 photos, want format of 8 photos/page, but default is not that- "create" the initial book from iphoto "album" it loads less than 800 pics and then when i change layout i have blanks.

trying to make an ibook and have 800 photos, want format of 8 photos/page, but default is not that- "create" the initial book from iphoto "album" it loads less than 800 pics and then when i change layout i have blanks.
if i clear the book so that it is all blanks and then try to load in the pictures i have it loses the chronology of the pictures that i had established in the album.
is there a way to import photos into an ibook template and keep the original order of the photos without having to do them one at a time?
also, is there a way to insert a photo rather than just dragging it? i have tried the cut and paste funciton but it doesn't seem to work, the target site doesn't seem to register with iphoto.
    many thanks for your help.

Photos are added to book in chronological order.  So if you want to add them to a book in the order you have placed them manually in an album do the following:
1 - select all the photos in the album.
2 - use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option as shown here. Select any date and add 1 minute between photos.
3 - select just one photo from the album and create a book from it.
4 - in the book click on the Options button ➙ Book Settings button and make sure the checkbox for Auto-layout pages is unchecked.
5 - drag the album with your book photos onto the book icon and they will be imported into the Photos tray of the book in your pre-determined order but not into the pages themselves.

  • IPhoto library won't display, "Loading Photos" endlessly

Iphoto won't display the library, it shows the loading photos graphic endlessly. Tried deleting all relevant metadata (files in iphoto library folder and library>preferences) and repairing disk permissions, to no effect. Did not move or rename iphoto.app.
Please suggest fikes for this issue and/or alternatives to iphoto.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Tried deleting all relevant metadata (files in iphoto library folder and library>preferences)
What files did you delete in the iPhoto Library Folder, exactly?
Did not move or rename iphoto.app.
Good to know, but the warning about moving/renaming does not refer to iPhoto.app but to the library:
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.

  • I just got a new Mac Mini, and now when I try to import photos into Lightroom, iPhoto try to load them first, then Lightroom can't find the files.  Big problem.  What to do?

I just got a new Mac Mini, and now when I try to import photos into Lightroom, iPhoto ties to load them first, then Lightroom can't find the files.  Big problem.  What to do?

    Simple:
File -> Export to get your photos out of the iPhoto Library. In the Export dialogue you can set the kind to Original and you'll get back exactly what you put in.
Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
Once exported, you can then trash the iPhoto Library - just drag it from the Pictures Folder to the trash and empty it.
After that, if you're entirely neurotic about it, just put the iPhoto app in the trash and empty it.

  • My photos won't "load" - it has worked fine for at least two years, but suddenly now when I plug in the chip, iPhoto opens up as usual, but the window just says "loading photos",  and the little wheel keeps on spinning - can anyone help me?? I am new here

my photos won't "load" - it has worked fine for at least two years, but suddenly now when I plug in the chip, iPhoto opens up as usual, but the window just says "loading photos",  and the little wheel keeps on spinning - can anyone help me?? I am new here. I need to get it working again because we're about to go on a trip!

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Iphoto closing unexpectedly when "loading photo"-- please help

When I click to open iphoto, the application itself begins to load, but in the process of "loading photos" it freezes, shuts itself down, and then a message appears stating that iphoto closed unexpectedly giving me options to report, relaunch, and ignore.
I have removed all my photos to an external hard drive, guessing that I might have too any images. However the problem persists.
Any suggestion??? Iphoto is one my most used applications and i really miss it working. I appreciate any help!

I'm sorry to tell you that your problems aren't over.
but creating a new user did!
This is not a solution, but a test. As I said above:
see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.
So now we really need to find out what's causing the problem in the main account.
But that's just another problem because of this:
I moved all the jpeg files out of the iphoto library folder onto an external hard drive and then deleted the pictures out of the library folder.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
You've wrecked your library. Do you want to fix it and iPhoto in the main account? Post back if you do.

  • Can I load photos stored on a pc backup hardrive onto my Mac IPhoto?

Can I load photos stored on a pc backup hardrive onto my Mac IPhoto?

You can indeed.  Simply drag the folder containing the images (or the images themselves) from the hard drive to the iPhoto icon in the dock (same one you click on to open iPhoto.  This will cause iPhoto to start importing whatever you drag in.
    Two suggestions:
Have a backup of your current library before you do the import just in case iPhoto encounters a corrupt file during import which might damage your existing library of images:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553
Import the images in small batches if there are many of them.  That way if there is an error with one of the images during import you can easily identify where the bad image is coming from.
    Cheers.
