IPhoto 5 issues - should I update?
I am having issues with cropping/editing photos in iPhoto. I can crop and edit the photos and on screen the changes appear, but the auto save feature does not work. Most of the time, the picture simply reverts back to it's original formatting no matter what I do. Sometimes it decides to save, sometimes not so much.
I have an older iBook running with OS X 10.4.11 and I'm not sure if running a newer version of iPhoto will remedy the situation, or just crash my poor computer. I am new to Mac and I feel like I'm learning to walk all over again! grr...
I see that there are others who have suffered with this same issue and I'm wondering if it's some kind of bug. Any ideas? (other than throwing the mac out the window and hooking up the old PC)

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First, delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and try again.
If necessary backup the library and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and rebuild the library. Select all options.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

Should I update to the newest iPhoto from Mavericks, before installing Yosemite?
I have a 13" MacBook Pro with a 2.4GHz Intel Core Duo processor, 16 GB memory (1607 MHz DDR3), and a 1 TB Samsung SSD hard drive. I have Mavericks 10.9.5 on it, and iPhoto 8.1.2 (iPhoto '09). I'm about to update to Yosemite, but I've read about people having problems with iPhoto and iPhoto Library after the update. Should I update to the newest version of iPhoto before updating to Yosemite? Is there anything else I should know about installing these updates?
I'm puzzled about why there aren't more questions like mine ("No similar content found")
Two possibilities there: one is that you've phrased the question in a way different from other posters with the same issue or not very many people have the issue.
and why Apple hasn't put more info/help files out there about the havoc that can be wrought upon iPhoto libraries if app and system software updates are not done in the correct order.
I'm really not sure what you're referring to here. You can't update to iPhoto 9.6 unless you're already on 10.10. There simply is no way to do it in the 'wrong order'. And there is no evidence that the order of updating makes a whit of difference to a Library anyway. You may have read about people having problems after an update - read more. There are always people who have issues after updates - updates of any app on any OS. The reasons can vary widely - everything from pre-existing issues on the host machine, faulty download, faulty installer, minor directory and disk damage. So, I really would not read too much into it. -

I upgraded to iOS x mavericks on my iMac now i cannot access my iPhoto i get this messageThis update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled. I have not changed anything thankyou for any info.
Please test after each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes. Keep in mind that no one here represents Apple or can help with customer-service issues.
Step 1
A purchased app can only be updated by signing in to the App Store with the same Apple ID that was originally used to buy it. There's no way around that limitation, which also applies to free apps. If you can't sign in with the buyer's ID, delete the app and reinstall it. You'll have to pay for it again, if applicable.
Step 2
If you get the alert when trying to update a bundled iLife app, elect the Purchases page in the App Store and locate the app in your purchase history. If there's a button marked ACCEPT on the right, click it.
If you have a used Mac, the bundled apps were linked to the original owner's Apple ID and can't be transferred to you. Reportedly, customer service has issued redemption codes to some second owners who asked, but it's not guaranteed.
Step 3
If you're trying to update iLife or iWork apps that were installed from a purchased DVD, or if you have a refurbished Mac bought directly from Apple, contact App Store customer service for a redemption code. You may be asked for the part number of the DVD.
Step 4
From the App Store menu bar, select
Store ▹ View My Account
Enter your Apple ID password at the prompt. At the lower right corner of the window that opens, click the Reset button. Close the window.

What version of iPhoto are you using? 9.6 is the current version.
Do a backup.
Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Should I update my iPad to ios6
Well in the setting Iam confuse, should I update it and if I update it are all app that I install will deleted or unistall itself some how?
I'm waiting til 6.1 as well.
That said, I do have 6.0 on my Touch and it seems to be working okay.
BUt I've read too many posts with issues and I'm just not in the mood to fight it in case I'm one of those that has problems.
As to doing a backup. YES. always, always, always do a sync before you update the iOS. Then, if something does go wrong, you have the most recent backup to restore to. -

Reasons to update include:
1. New features that are useful to you.
There are many new features between 10.6 and 10.10. Many of them involve iCloud, which allows syncing of content across your Apple devices. Some involve efficiency, increasing battery life and reducing CPU load. You can find reviews of each of the OS versions since SL online. Read them, and see if you think the features are of use to you.
2. Compatibility with application software that you want to run.
If you need to use particular apps, then you might want to use the latest versions, and they may require using a newer OS.
3. Bug fixes and security.
Whilst no release is bug-free, there is a general movement to get bugs fixed. Yosemite has benefitted from the public beta to have a lot of issues reported and fixed. It also includes security fixes that prevent malware from attacking your computer.
Reasons not to update:
1. Older software may not work at all or well on a newer OS.
You will have to make sure that all your applications, hardware drivers and other software is compatible with Yosemite. This may involve having to buy new versions. Snow Leopard is the last version that can run old PPC software, written for pre-2006 Macs.
2. Things are different!
A lot of changes have been made to the interface since SL. You will need to get used to them.
You could always install Yosemite on an external drive, and give it a test drive! -

- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have. -
Should I update to 10.7.2 and Safari 5.1.1?
I've spent a lot of time over the last few months reading about the problems people have been having with Lion and Safari. As a result, when I decided to try Lion, I did so by first installing it on an external hard drive. When that seemed to work fine, I installed it on a separate partition on my 2006 MacBook Pro, just so I could keep Snow Leopard up and running in case I encountered problems. I have had no problems whatsoever with Lion. My old laptop runs cooler, quieter and faster in Lion.
So my question is: should I update? What is the experience after the update on Macs that were doing just fine with Lion? Is it likely to screw things up at all? I also wasn't having the memory issues while using Safari.
I'd like to see what iCloud is all about. I need to do the updates for that, correct?Yes, to use iCloud you'll have to update. I wasn't having any problems before either. I updated and things are just as good.

I backed up the photos and videos to the external drive, and then I retrieved from it, before I retrieve it, I restored my computer to the origianl manufacture status, and then after I retrieved the photos back, the iphoto can not be opened saying :
"You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. and You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Do you want to quit and use the latest version of iPhoto, or do you want to create a new photo library?"

How old is your Mac? If it's very recent you need to update via the App Store
If you purchased at the App Store you need to update via the App Store
Otherwise you update via Softare Update
If you have moved iPhoto from the default location (i.e. into a Folder) then the updater won't find it. Move it back.
If you have renamed iPhoto, the updater won't find it. Change it back.

Should i update my slate 21 to kitkat
hey guys, i have seen so many posts saying there are problems after upgraded to kitkat 4.4.2, my slate 21 k100 is still at 4.2.2 version. and the update option just popped up saying its ready to install. Should i update to kitkat now ? or the problems have been fixed and its safe to update? thanks!
Are you happy with the way it works now? = Don't upgrade.
Are you sad that you need Kitkat to run certain apps? = Upgrade.

Should I update my drivers and software I see new drivers in late 2012..i have never updated
should i update my bios, drivers etc. my computer is 3+ years old and I have never done any updating from HP
You should only update your BIOS, if there is specific feature that has been added or fixed that you need support for. Flashing the BIOS is risky and should only be done when absolutely necessary.
As far as the drivers are concerned, update them if they fix an issue you are experiencing or provide a new feature you want/need. Updating driver is much less less risky and easier to fix if needed.
