IPhoto 5 issues
I have recently upgraded to iPhoto 5 and shortly there after it dropped all my albums, distorts all the thumb nail images and opens to a blank palette when I double click on any single image along with a blank thumb nail bar at the top of the window. In addition, it crashes anytime I try to edit any image and slide shows give me a black screen only. I have trashed it several times and have reloaded iPhoto and to no avail, it still functions extremely poorly. Does anyone know whats going on????

I'm having two different iPhoto issues...
I have no problem opening iPhoto, both occur when I try to open the picture or video.
First, I have an issue with many of my photos that show up in the library as thumbnails but when I click on them to open a larger view, they open up for just a second and then disappear. iPhoto remains open, but the place where the pic would be is solid black. I can't figure out why this happens with some pics and not others or how to make it stop.
Second, I have a permission issue with mostly videos. When I double click to open the video a box pops up with the "Finder" log on it that gives the following message:
You do not have permission to open the document IMG_0041.MOV.
Contact your computer or network administrator for assistance.
When this happens, I'm logged in as the computer's administrator and I don't know how to fix this either.
If anyone can help in any way, I would greatly appreciate it. Both of these are extremely frustrating.

One.ThreeWhat version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the options to check and repair Library permissions. -
Question is how to fix iPhoto and Mail in 8.2?
Just a little history to start. Reinstalled 8.2 after I had Java issues. Having 2T drive worth of Time Machine means nothing. Erred 3 times ~40min into a 4hr backup from several different selections of Time Machine dates. Gave up and picked and selected backup pieces. Music, iPhotos( 57K), Contacts. Before I could backup the Mail using Time Machine files, it erred with a "ran out of space" error. Seems I left the Time Machine backup "on" selected and it was backing up after I reloaded 8.2, pictures, music, etc. I understand now a "feature" of Time Machine is to clear the oldest backups (Aug 11) for incremental backups unless you have an immense backup (new software) and then it deletes all of the history when it its a space limit. I ran out time to get the mail.
That was the history for the last two days. Yesterday everything worked. Downloaded photos of grandson, sent email, and used Java with the weatherstation. All was well with the world....Today Mail can't find Mail in ~/library/mail starting up. Won't error to send to apple, but makes me quit as below. I have verified Mail is where it belongs as below:
At the same time Mail had problems, so did iPhoto. iPhoto starts to open and crashes. (think I sent 60 crash reports to Apple). Sometimes it opens and I see the event folders then crashes. Most times it crashes as the iPhoto start window begins. Very inconsistant at where it crashes. See the last section for one crash report. Can someone assist? I really don't want to reload 8.2 again (last resort). 8.0 version ran very well and I liked it better than Snow Leopard and Lion.

Thank you for contacting National Instruments. I am sorry you were experiencing those issues with your application builder. Although you are using LabVIEW 8.2 (upgraded from 8.0.1), you should not be getting those errors, especially since you were able to successfully build applications in 8.0.1. It would be very helpful if you could drill down which vi (LabVIEW vi) is causing you to change these options. With this information, I can dig a little bit deeper to see if there has been a change in the function from 8.0.1 to 8.2. Please let me know what you find.

IPhoto issue when making albums
While trying to make an album with blurb I encountered an issue with iPhoto. While tusing the share function to create an album (Full of the pictures I want to use in the blurb album) it 'quit unexpectedly due to core media plug in'. Do I have to reinstall? I seem to remeber seeing a pop up that told me to do this but it seems very radical. I did export all my pictures to my documents file in finder (I have not yet managed to buy an external hard drive and the one I have for my PC is blocked through bit-locker). Help please (very new mac user still struggling with iphoto!)

If you ae having a crash post the first 100 or so lines of the cash repport here
And when you have the same problem in two or more different applications it is likely that you have a system evel problem

Help with importing Camera Roll to iPhoto issue?

I have a bunch of images on my iPhone (3GS, 5.0) saved from a phone 'wallpaper' app into Camera Roll.
Normally, as soon as I attach my iPhone to my MacPro, iPhoto '11 automatically launches and imports anything which is in Camera Roll.
This is suddenly not happening and I don't understand why (my software is up to date and I can't find anything relevant online).
Any ideas?

I just bough a Nokia 5800. I installed NMT 1.4 and everything goes great except for two things:
- itunes artwork is not showing up in my phone
- most importantly, when I try to sync my iphoto pics to my phone, nothing will happen. After the syncing process is finished, confirmation messages show up on my screen saying that safari bookmarks and itunes songs have been transferred, but nothing referred to my iphoto pics! And when I check the settings, the "Enable iPhoto Transfer" is always switched off! And I promise, I have switched it on like a thousand times! I´m going bananas here... :-(

The issue might be with the Nokia Multimedia transfer image capture plugin for Iphoto. Please follow the steps below and check if it works.
-Open HDD-Library-Application Support-Find and Delete the entire Nokia Multimedia Transfer folder.
-Then navigate to users-Library-Application Support -Nokia Multimedia Transfer (delete)
-Applications-Nokia Multimedia Tranfer-Control Click-Show package contents.
-Delete the entire contents folder.
-Make sure the trash is empty.
-Download and install NMT again from www.nokia.com/mac
-Now connect the device and then enable the iphoto transfer option.
-Also check with the artwork transfer to the device.
If the artwork is not working even after following the above steps. Kindly clarify the following
-Is it user added artwork or download from itunes (artwork downloaded from itunes is not supported by NMT)
- How many songs are u transferring having artwork from NMT to device, if many does the artwork show for other tracks?
- If you can send couple of track having artwork, maybe i can check

I have had a problem that has been happening on a continuing basis. I have rebuilt my iPhoto library so many times at this point I'm getting scared that permenant damage may happen to my photos.
I find that on occation something happens with iPhoto where it gets stuck "Finishing Importing Photos." The only solution to get it to stop is Force Quit; however, whenever I do that I cannot get back into iPhoto. The program will open, but the library never will. The only thing that works once this happens is to entirely rebuild the library, but that takes 1 1/2 to 2 days.
I finally gave up on my library and so I was trying to build a brand new library using photos I saved as a backup from the original library's "Originals" folder (the one you can see when you "show package contents"). I've been importing them about 2000 photos at a time. I was about half-way through importing these 45k+ photos, and I was on a group that I left overnight, when a MacOS update apparently also ran. When I came back to it today, my brand new iPhoto library was stuck "Finshing Importing Photos." I looked for any and all options to not have to force quit, but not finding any I did the force quit and hoped that this new library would not fail like the last one . . . I was not that lucky.
I'm currently running the iPhoto Library Manager, trying to run a rebuild but it's been an hour and I can't really tell if it is doing anything. Still, I should think there should be a way to fix this without using third-party software.The problem here is that you're not giving us any information that will allow us to help.
Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
- Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
iPhoto Library Manager is not necessary for iPhoto to work. But it's a handy tool if you can't fix other things. Use it, don't, whatever. -

I remembered that when my external hard drive (yes I keep my iPhoto on an external drive, but have had no problems working it like that) started failing, I made a backup.
There is no issue with keeping an iPhoto Library on an external drive, but ona failing one?
Rather than restore photos from your back up you might have been better restoring the whole Library, no? After all this one is failing (and on a failing disk too, apparently)
As for the syncing : Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for the iPod Photo Cache.
Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.

Syncing photos to iPhoto issue
So I am using the latest Sony Bridge for Mac and trying ti import photos from iPhoto to my Xperia S through the software. It starts opying photos then stops part way through. Anyone else having an issue with the syncing to iPhoto?
I do, I haven't find a way around this, I have similar issues with PCs when I try to transfer my pictures.

IPhoto issues after upgrading to OS X Mavericks!!
I just upgraded to the OS X Mavericks on my imac and when I open up iphoto I get a message that says: Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. Then it gives me the option to quit or upgrade! It already looks like it's been upgraded due to the new blue icon. I'm afraid to hit upgrade for fear that I lost all of my photos! Does this mean that I have lost all of my photos?? I also did this on my macpro and had no issues with Iphoto.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store -
Hi there.
I shoot with a Canon 7D and I shoot in RAW. I've been shooting in RAW with this camera and importing with iPhoto for months already and had no issues. I have all the latest software and I never had any issues after updating. iPhoto imported half of the images from my dslr and skipped over the rest because they "aren't in a recognizable format".
This may sound naive but its almost like iPhoto just decided that it doesn't feel like importing.
Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated as I've searched the internet for a whole day now trying to find a solution but I haven't found one.

Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Canon Powershot S50 and iPhoto issues
After doing some major searching of the discussion pages I am posting in order to get some help with my Canon S50 and iPhoto 5.0.4 (263).
When importing into iPhoto or from Canon's image viewer or from the card reader built into my printer (HP photosmart 7760) I have problems.
When using iPhoto to import I get an error message telling me that iPhoto can't read the files because they are either corrupt or in a format it can't read
Using the card reader or image viewer, I can get the files onto the computer, and can view previews of the files, which look fine. However when I try to open them in preview or any other software the photos are distorted and color "bars" cover the photos.
I try importing the same files using a 12 powerbook and it worked fine.
Please help me!

When trying to sync my Apple TV and iPhone after the 7.7 update, iTunes will only recognize "Last Import", and "Last 12 Months" folders. It will not show any of my events. When I choose to import all photos and albums, they come over, but all uncategorized.
upon connecting you iphone / apple TV with itunes 7.7, has it frozen itunes? I have got iphoto to work, but the itunes issue persists. Any ideas other that deleting the preferences com.apple stuff or reinstalling itunes?

On opening iPhoto, issue on "Updating Thumbnail"
I have been on long holidays and on return I downloaded all the photos from a Canon and an iPad onto my MacBook Pro. Since then every time I open the iPhoto I get this two windows
The "Finish later" button does not respond.
And when I try to find the missing photos I get this window - as you can see the iPhoto library is inaccessible.
The only thing I can do in order to access my pics and use iPhoto is pressing "canceal" for 10 min (as there are quite a few such inaccessible pics).
Never before have I had any problems with similar issues.
I tried to plug in my Canon with the original pics stil not erased on the memo card but it didnt help.
Please help.

JeleThanks for answering, I do have "copy imported items to iPhoto library" ticked in . I noted down the numbers of half of those photos and found out that all of them actually are in the iPhoto library (once I did the 10 minutes cancelling session). For many of those numbers I found two or three different photos - as I have been using different cameras at different times (4-5 different ones in last 8 months). Could that be a source of the problem? But...do you have an idea how can I avoid having to do this 10 min cancel thingy on Alert window each time I start up my comp and open iPhoto. When I open iPhoto, befor I am done with 10min of "cancel" I can use no function on any menu of iPhoto - I can only force quit it.

I intend to export out all of my photos/videos (16217pce) but I have received an error issue.
Why is that? Why iPhoto couldn't just simple export them? Is it so hard from Apple? Many issues I have with Yosemite. (Mail issues, Finder issues...)
And now this:
What should I do if I want to be sure all of my Photos saved, backed up? (Yes, I use TimeMachine, but I am not satisfied with it as well. I would like to get a third copy what is not in OSX format, means not iPhoto folder and not on the TimeMachine back up. ) I want a clean copy from everything. That's all.

PS: (I am not getting something! The most reach company in the word and they cannot fix issues under days? Need month? I cannot believe that! Product s are so expensive and they NOT that GOOD. I love them, so don't get me wrong, because till better than any other product on the word, but as the company handling the issues... are bit absurd. I think they could easily fix issues much much quicker. Don't tell me only my iPhoto or my Finder or Apple Mail is wrong only... I guess lot's of other user have the same issues... just they don't have time to report every little - but disturbing issues to Apple.I am not getting this totally (As a normal user - don't really care what iPhoto could do or not... the point is it cannot what is bad for a normal user...)
I understand but you've got a damaged library and need to fix it somehow. The workaround is the drag and drop but at some time you'll have to find a fix for your library. The rebuild with iPLM worked for me.
You can try using iPhoto's First Aid but be sure to make a backup copy prior to attempting. The iPLM method leaves your current library untouched. Here's how to do the iPLM method:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 - select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2: Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
