IPhoto 5 not exporting images as jpg anymore

Hi all
Yesterday I downloaded the trial version of Fireworks to be able to do some work on my web site. Previously to the download I could export images out of my iPhoto and have it displayed in my finder as .jpg . After downloading Fireworks the images are sent to finder with just the name I've given it with no .jpg. I've tried, in the export box, to change it to jpg when prompted but this doesn't work. Suddenly all the pictures I try to export are not accepted by my web site.
I tried loading the pictures to Fireworks and then saving them but again when looking in the finder under pictures there is no jpg, or any other attachment with the pictures.
I have since un-installed Fireworks and restarted m computer but the problem still exists.
Any thoughts?

Michael:
Launch Image Capture and make sure iPhoto is selected as the application to launch when you connect your camera. IC's preferences is where you make that selection. Did you run any updaters shortly before this started?
As a note if case you have iPhoto delete the memory card after the upload I suggest you do not as there have been too many cases of incomplete uploads and complete erasures. It's safer to have the camera reformat the card.

  • IPhoto not exporting photos properly

    iPhoto 9.4.2.
When I try to export photos with the 'export' feature, some come out wrong. Sometimes the photo is almost cut in half, with one half filtered and skewed. Other times the photo is cut with a grey background across it.
Tried exporting to multiple formats, different quality settings and several times. I've been able to do this successfully in the past.
    Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem: occurs randomly but often. I have just exported a dozen images, three images have the upper left quarter of the exported image about 50% lighter than the rest of the picture.  Other times there will be a square somewhere in the picture a different shade, other times it is stripes.
If I look at the pictures in iphoto, they appear normal.
I could not try your fix because the problerm is random. I did open a new library to see what happened.
Just one problem: how do I get my old library back when I open iphoto.

  • HT1553 I restored my hard drive from time machine. Why is iPhoto not displaying images properly?

I restored my hard drive from time machine after power blinks corrupted the file system so badly that disk utility could not repair it. Since then, iPhoto has not displayed images correctly. Events are there, and blank squares are shown, but that's all. I rebuilt small and all thumbnails and permissions -- I think the top three or four options in the iPhoto rebuild utility, which took five hours to do but which seems not to have changed anything. The iPhoto library is still more than 100GB, so the photos are there. I didn't choose rebuild from backed up --- whatever the final option on the rebuild menu offers -- because that seems to be appropriate only when a backup is interrupted. Could certainly do it, though. How do I get iphoto behaving again? I have full time machine backups saved automatically and another fairly recent copy on a separate hard drive stored remotely. Thanks for whatever help anyone can provide. I've looked at existing questions and solutions without success so far.

What version of iPhoto and system are your running?  Since you've tried rebuilding with iPhoto give this a try:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If you have an external HD you might want to have the rebuilt copy created on it unless you have well more than 100 GB available on your boot drive.

  • Muse Not Exporting Images/ Inconsistent Loading

Here is a folder containing all files for my project:
    https://www.dropbox.com/sh/w87ewtlfj9pcnzs/DnUB8_qJHe
Up until yesterday my whole project was all working great, no problems. Now it doesn't matter whether I preview, export, or save, Muse will just not load some assets. It's very inconsistent, as sometimes it will load a certain asset but after refreshing it won't show up anymore. The only one that has consistently not worked is the water animation at the bottom of the page, but, as I mentioned, it was working perfectly just a few days ago with no change. I was just about ready to publish this before it happened, so the timing couldn't be worse. Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hi uphotos!
Your Muse file is giving 12 warnings that you have not exported Edge Animate oam-files to the pages. Check that you have added (exported) only oam-files to the pages from Edge Animate App!

  • IPhoto not exporting description for Canon Powershot

iPhoto is not exporting descriptions for photos taken by my Canon Powershot SX110 IS.
I use the camera to take a picture, import the photo, add a description and use File->Export, choosing JPEG, check box for Title and Keywords, check box for Locations.   Perform export and view photo in Preview, view exif using Tools->Inspector.  All pertinent exif data is there except description, including keywords and location. Specifically looking at IPTC and TIFF data fields.
However, if I export Photos from my wife's camera (a Canon SLR model) or a friend's Canon EOS model, then the descriptions do get exported.   Any ideas or solutions on how to export the description for the Canon Powershot?

I can confirm that. I just imported it to iPhoto and no, I can't see the caption there either. But, and this is odd, there are several blank spaces there - for instance, in the shot below I just typed 'this is a test' where the cursor would let me.
So you can see there is some element of recognition that there is *something* there, which is weird. I tried copying and pasting that out but there are only spaces and no actual text that I can find. This is also repeated with Aperture.
There is some incompatibility between that camera and the Quicktime substructure on the Mac... I've simply never seen anything like this before.

  • IPhoto not exporting and slideshows not showing in finder

iPhoto on my MacBook air will not export slideshows into iTunes, even though the icon is ticked for it to do so automatically. Also, the slideshows I create are not showing in finder. Any suggestions?

Look in your Pictures folder for a folder titled iPhoto Slideshows.  That's where my converted slideshows end up.

  • Lightroom 5.0 is not exporting images properly

Recently I upgraded to Lightroom 5.0. I have been noticing that when I export images at 1000px max and 100% quality, the image is very grainy. I can open that same image in Photoshop CC from Lightroom, resize the image to 1000px max, and save, and the image looks great. Below is an example. The first photo is the Lightroom 5.0 export. The second is the Photoshop CC resize and save. Does anyone know what the problem is? I never had this issue with any earlier version of Lightroom and I have been using it since version 1.0.

Download the Lr 5.2RC from Adobelabs. There was a bug in exporting which is fixed in this release candidate.

  • Exporting images in jpg format...

    Hello everyone,
For some reason my iphoto is not able to export jpg format images, while initially it was doing so without any glitch whatsovever.
    Any idea/solution???
    Please help!!
    Thank You.

in iPhoto select the photo(s) and export (file menu ==> export) as a JPEG
    (select photos & export)
Are you exporting as JPEG as suggested?
it's not recognising my jpg files.
What is "It" that does not reconise the JPEGs you exported from iPhoto? have you tried Preview?

  • Make iphoto NOT duplicate images?

    Hi,
I like almost everything about iPhoto, except that it duplicates your images when you import them into your library (at least that's my understanding of what happens). With thousands of images (most of which are about 2 Mb each), that can get to be a very large chunk of any hard drive (internal or external). I understand the reasoning behind the duplication (lossy jpg files), but is there a way to turn that feature OFF in iPhoto? I simply want to organize and batch rename photos when they're downloaded from my camera. I can handle file duplication myself, when I edit photos in Photoshop.
If iPhoto can't turn duplication off, can anyone recommend other software that's good at organizing and batch renaming? I don't want anything fancy (no slide shows, no web posting, no photo albums); just reliability.
    Thanks!
    Barbara

    Barbara
iPhoto does not duplicate your images when you import them - unless you already have them on the HD. (and if so, why not delete those copies?).
When you import a photo iPhoto creates a tiny thumbnail of the photo for display in the iPhoto Window.
If you edit a photo iPhoto preserves the Original - and now you have a modifed and an original - different versions of the pic, not duplicates.
And no, there is no way to stop iPhoto doing this.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
I simply want to organize and batch rename photos when they're downloaded from my camera.
Then why do you need another app at all?
Use Image Capture to move the files from your camera to the Finder. Set up a basic folder structure for yourself. As for batch renaming, there are any number of renaming utilities, myself I use Name Mangler.
What else do you need? It's the Finder, how much more reliable can you get?

  • IPhoto Not Displaying images in full-size, only thumbnails

I have iPhoto 11.9.4.2 installed in iMac 27" running Mac OS 10.7.5.
Up until last night iPhoto has been great. Last night I added about 100 images to my library which is a pretty typical update for me. The pics all transferred fine. All my exisiting and new images are visible in thumbnail mode, however when I 'click' on any one of my new or existing images so that I can view only that image in iPhoto, the image flashes up for 1 second then disappears. If I use my mouse or arrow keys I can go to the next image which again flashes up temporarily then disappears.
When I adjst the 'zoom' on the lower left portion of the iPhoto window, I can see a very small version of the image I would like to see with a box/rectangle over the area that I assume would be visibile if I zoomed in what would normally be a full-sized image.
    Any ideas?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Iphoto not showing images

Some of my photos are not showing in iPhoto,i can see them when i open the events tab but when i click on the image to view i get a black screen with an exclamation mark, this does not happen on all images,on the same event i can have 10 images but only see 2 and the rest will not show, all the 10 images would have been taken on the same day,i have tried option/command and open iPhoto to restore thumbnails but this did not work

This indicates a disconnect between the Thumbnail and the original
this can be caused by two things
1 - User action deleting items from inside the iPhoto  library - can be directly - can be from the All images list (never delete from there) - can be from running cleanup software like MacKeeer, CleanMac2  or other dangerous, defective software that improperly deletes or changes things in the iPhoto library - if you have done any of these things you must restore your backup from before you did them and damaged your iPhoto library - and I recommend getting rid of any "clean up software" ASAP (although being essentially MalWear it is not easy)
2 - corruption of the iPhoto library - If it is not #1 then Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your database

  • HT2638 iPhoto not displaying images at 100%

I am trying to build a book of wedding photographs for my niece and finding iPhoto 11 crops some of the images - they are not displayed in full in the frames. Is there any way to force the app to show the images at 100%? You can enlarge the image by dragging the slider across, but not decrease the size to show the full image.

Wow, that easy! I feel such a dork ... Thanks Terence, don't know why I did not think of that!

  • IPhoto not displaying images

If I open an album in iPhoto, all images are at first shown on screen. But when I scroll down, they disappear, turning into blank boxes. If I click on those boxes, nothing appears. Any ideas? Thank you.

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Importing from SD card to iPhoto - not all images recognized

Hi, I'd be really grateful for some help...
I've got a Panasonic Lumix LX1 camera, with a 2GB SD card. When I play back the pictures on the card through the camera, there are 655 images. But when I've tried to import these images to iPhoto 6, the computer only recognizes 344 of these images.
In my attempts to import, I've tried using both the camera itself, and a cardreader, to read the disk; and I've tried both importing the pictures directly into iPhoto, and also copying them across from the hard drive created by the camera/cardreader into a folder on my desktop. No joy. It will only let me have the 344.
Can anyone shed some light on how I might be able to unlock and import the 311 unrecognized images into iPhoto?
    Many thanks!
    Richard
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    RCMA:
Are there any movie files on the card? They can cause the import to stop. Launch Image Capture, located in the Applications folder, and then connect the camera. Now you'll be able to manually upload the files you want to a folder on the desktop and then import into iPhoto from there. While you're viewing in Image Capture see if you can determine which is #345, the one that stops the import.
IMO it's better to manually upload to a folder on the Desktop and then into iPhoto to avoid issues that may occur with low battery stoppage, etc. that might corrupt the library. Also I recommend you do not let iPhoto delete the photos after the upload as there are too many reports of incomplete uploads (like yours) and complete erasures.

  • Lightroom 3 does not export images to Photoshop CS5

After updating to Lightroom 3 and CS5 I can no longer send nef or dng-files to Photoshop from Lightroom (Photoshop works perfectly if I load files from Bridge). When I select an image in Lightroom and try to edit it in CS5, Photoshop starts but does not show any image on the screen. Calling Photoshop from Lightroom seems to work, however the file export is missing. This happens both with the "edit in Photoshop CS5 and "edit in Photoshop" option. I have checked the registry entries for photoshop.exe in the registry - they are correct. I use both programs on Windows 7, 64 bit.
I am almost desperate as I have searched the internet and tried out many things without success.
    Grateful for any helpful response,

I had this problem with some images, and after much playing about, I found it was because I had an '&' in either the filename or the folder name. If I deleted the '&' from the filename or foldername the files opened in CS5.
