IPhoto 5 problem

Had problem with disk burning this am, and now getting message that "The photo library was created with an unrreleased version of iPhoto.
Tells me to please quit and upgrade this library by openiing it in iPhoto 2 or iPhoto 4. I have iLife 05 loaded with Tiger operation system on my G4. Whats up and how to fix. Library is intact as far as I can tell.

Have you tried rebuilding the library?

Mail and iPhoto Problems with sending photos.
I have this problem that started a while ago and seems to be getting worse.
    Here are the different scenarios.
-If I try to share a photo to email within iPhoto, it will insert the image file name in the mail message, but no image icon or opened image. In iPhoto Preferences under General I have chosen to use Email Photos using Mail.
-If I choose to use iPhoto to send the photo, it will compose the message and the photo is viewable. If I send the message i can view the photo within the email I sent to myself. Nothing happens when I double click on the photo in the Mail message. Nothing happens when i control click on the photo in the mail message. Nothing happens when I try to drag the photo to the desktop from the mail message. When I try to save attachments from the email and choose a place to save it, the save button is grayed out and it cannot be saved. When I check the mail message it says there is an attachemnt but there is no file size listed.
-If I use the stationary within Mail app I cannot drag a photo into the placeholder, I get a circle with a line through it symbol when I try. It happens if I try to drag a photo from the desktop or from the media browser within Mail app.
-If I drag the photo to the desktop from iPhoto, I can double click it on the desktop and it will open in Preview.
-If I then control click on the same photo on the desktop and scroll to share/email, the generic photo icon will be inserted in the mail message. If i double click the photo icon in the mail message  I get a message it can't be opened because it is empty.
-If I drag that same image to the mail message body the same thing happens.
-If I send that email to someone they cannot open the image file.
    What I can do:
    - I can drag that same image file on the desktop to my dropbox folder and  it will upload. From there I can go on my iPad and download the photo and send it through email just fine.
-I can open the same image file on my desktop in Preview, I can copy and paste it into a mail message and the image will be viewable in the mail message by me and by the recipient.
-I can drag that same image on the desktop to my safari browser window and it will be viewable in the page. i can then copy and paste that image into a mail message and it is viewable in the message.  I can then send that email message to myself and i can control click on the image and get all my options. It also shows as an attachment with the size of the image file in the mail message.
I can send that message to someone and they can see the photo and open it fine.
-If I send that same email to me I can see the photo within the mail.  If I then drag that photo to the desktop I cannot use it again to put in an email as the same problem happens again.
I have tried all scenarios in my user account, another users account and in a guest account. The same happens in all. I am guessing because of this it is not a corrupt preference file, unless all of the preference files are corrupt. The guest user account I added a new email account so it was brand new and still had the problem.
I am stumped, all and any help is appreciated.

Another problem that may be related….
I have Snapz Pro. I used to be able to save the snaps to my desktop or a folder. Now when I take a screenshot and try to save the file to my desktop or a folder on my desktop I get this message  "Files cannot be created in the selected location. You do not have permission to write to the selected location.   Please choose a different location."  I have found that i can only save the file to the clipboard.   I have repaired permissions many times and still I have this problem.

  • Tired of iPhoto problems

I am tired of iPhoto problems.
My Apple stalled the other night and now I have restarted it all my iPhoto photos have disappeared.
I cannot find them nor can I rebuild them.
Some photos were exclusivley in my iPhoto library and I have lost them.
Others are on Flickr but I cannot import these thanks to the Quicktime conversion conflict.
Could someone please suggest a way to get my pictures back (the albums are still there!).
I hope Apple sorts these issues out soon as I have already lost a lot of faith in iPhoto and I used to use it religiously.

    Keith
Well, your pics are safe, the most important thing.
If the alt-apple trick did nothing, then I'm afraid your db got corrupted in the crash. That library is a gonner, and the only thing you can do now is create and populate a new library. This will take a lot less time than you think, and doesn't involve re-importing each photo individually.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
As to the QT problem, Old Toad has created an wee app that attaches a color profile to the pics, and so sorts the issue. You can read about it here:

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Delete the Receipts:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /private/var/db/receipts
A wndow will open at that location. Remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • IPhoto problems. When trying to print a book I am getting corruption problems when previewing in pdf.  Please help !

I am having repeated problems producing a photo book on Iphoto v9.2.1
When i preview my photo book in pdf before sending to be printed, some of the photos are corrupted even though they are ok in iPhoto.
I have tried changing the photo but then the corruption seems to move to another page. I have also updated my software and restarted the computer as directed by the help section, but to no avail.
    All ideas gratefully received !

Try booting into safe mode and previewing -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.
if it looks good order while in safe mode then reboot to get out of safe mode

  • IPhoto problems--PLEASE HELP!!

As I was downloading and organizing my digital pictures into my iPhoto application, I began receiving the message that my start up disk is almost full. I bought an external hard drive, hooked it up and proceeded to try again. As I was creating albums, and trying to find my pictures which seemed to have been dispersed in many different folders when it apparently crashed, it crashed again. Currently, I have all of my pictures in various folders on my external hard drive and no pictures in my iPhoto, though the album names have remained.
Before I purchased the external hard drive, I went through all of my applications and deleted as many as I thought I didn't need. I'm hoping I didn't delete something I needed. I also dragged my iPhoto applilcation into the external hard drive thinking that the reason it kept crashing was because there wasn't enough memory. However, that didn't seem to work either. Is there another way to transfer the application to the external hard drive? Is that even necessary? I have over 1000 pictures, and I only have 2 GB left on my internal hard drive.
Since I'm obviously not terribly computer literate, I'm not sure what the problem is or what to so about it. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!
    Thanx! Mroman

    Mroman:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Can you drag your iPhoto library library to the external HD and copy it? If not then create an "Applications" folder on your external HD and start copying applications to is and then delete them from your boot drive. Keep doing that until you have as much free space or more that what your iPhoto library takes up. Then try copying the iPhoto Library folder to the external HD again. If it copies satisfactorily launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and when you are asked to locate a library navigate to the external and select the one there. When it opens OK and you can confirm you have all your pictures save in there you can delete the iPhoto Library folder that's on your boot drive.
It is highly recommended that you have a minimum of 15% or 10G free space on your boot drive, whichever is greater. More if possible.
Now you can copy your primary applications back to your HD, keeping mind the minimum free space recommendations. Then delete them from the external. One way to regain some real estate on your boot drive is to run DeLocalizer and remove any of the unneeded language modules. I saved nearly 900 MB the first time I ran it.
You didn't say how big your boot drive was but if it is fairly small and you have a large iTunes library you can also move that to the external and run it from there.
    Do you Twango?

  • Photoshop cs4 and import to iphoto problem

    Hi to all,
I would appreciate any help on this problem:
I process a raw file through camera raw 5.1 in photoshop cs4 and then save it as a jpeg.
I then try to import the jpeg file to iphoto, but iphoto says the file is unreadable and can't import it.
In photoshop cs3 I never encountered this problem.
The only way I can solve it is if i open the jpeg file in preview and save it again as jpeg. then i am able to import the new jpeg.
Any ideas how to solve this?
Thanks in advance for your help.

process a raw file through camera raw 5.1 in photoshop cs4 and then save it as a jpeg.
I then try to import the jpeg file to iphoto, but iphoto says the file is unreadable and can't import it.
That's because you're saving it inside the iPhoto Library package and trying to import from there. You must save all RAW edited files to the desktop or outside of the iPhoto Library package. iPhoto will not import any file located inside it's library package.
If you use CS4 to edit jpgs from within iPhoto the following may be of help to you:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • PS Elements saving to iPhoto problem

Help! I am using Photoshop Elements 9 with iPhoto 11 on a Mac (Mountain Lion). My original problem was that any edits I made in PSE elements (using PSE as the edit program for iPhoto) were not reflected in iPhoto. However, after bad instructions from an Apple tech about this problem, I now have an even bigger problem, which I will address here.
I cannot save any edited file from PSE back to its original location in the iPhotos library. The Save location is the last place I visited in the finder. In the past, the file would automatically be saved in the correct location. (Of course recently the edits would not show up in iPhoto, but this is another problem.)
In the past, I could open iPhoto, edit a photo in PSE, save the file, and the edited file would appear like magic in iPhoto. No more.
For what it is worth, the Apple tech had me empty all caches on the computer. For my part, I also reinstalled PSE, but nothing works.  For the record, I write over the original file and save as a jpeg.
    Help!

I had two problems. First, the edts made in PSE would not show up in iPhoto, even though the paths to the files were correct. Then, the paths to the original file were lost and photos were saved into the Pictures folder.
But there is now good news -- I solved the problem. The problem is Default Folder X 5.5b10 (14688). I turned it off, and suddenly everything worked. The photos update and the saves go to the correct locations.
It finally dawned on me that I had updated the software. I tried turning off Default Folder X, and all was right with the world.
Thank you to everyone for your help and suggestions. I truly appreciate your help and expertise.

  • Iphoto problems to mac os x 10.5.3 update

since i update to macosx 10.5.3 the preferences panel on iphoto didnt open and the same happens to music settings on presentation module.
    whats going on?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    i trash the iphoto library
Do you really mean the iPhoto Library? That would delete all of your photos. Do you mean the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist? If you haven't, try deleting that file, located in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
Also have you installed the iLife Support 8.2 update? If not do so.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. • IMac Migration w/ iPhoto problems

I apologize if my question is redundant as I am fairly new to Mac. A while back I bought a Intel iMac 20" Core Duo. I have not had too much time to play with it but have used it for basic functions, ie Office, Internet, iTunes, and some games. I recently bought a new 24"iMac. I needed another computer in the house. Without knowing much I went ahead and did the migration. I had some photos on my old iMac as well as the other programs and data. Everything came over fine, but now I am having some problems. I have thousands and thousands of photos and have began inporting them. As I have been playing in iPhoto when i do any work for a lenght of time it locks up my computer. It occurs most when I am editing. I am now worried that I have migrated things I should not have and perhaps should have just got the computer working and then slowly improted the items I needed. My question is: is migration the way to go, should I save what I have and then reformat the drive and start over with a fresh new iMac, or just start working on the computer as I want to and work through the issues as they arrive. I am still at the starting gate in terms of what I need to do so I don't want to get too far into everything to only then decide I need to start over. One thing what worried me was that iDVD '06 migrated as well and now wonder if my iLife 08 is a good clean copy or if it got messed up with the migration process. I hope all this makes sense. I have been a windows user until now and just don't understand all the Mac does or how it installs, records etc. Did iLife 06 come over to my new maching with iLife 08? What other problems can I expect? What about setting I had, will they all work as tehy have been migrated to the new machine? Like I mentioned before if I get a cleaner copy of my new machine I I am ok to clear it out and start over. If that make little difference in the long run, then I can go a different direction. I just can't afford to lose data, or time as I want to make sure everything works. Having to compleatly shut my computer off to get it too work again after working in iPhoto scares me. Thanks again for your time. Please give me some ideas or what you all think is best.

Holy Cow, out of curiosity I just checked out my current versions of iPhoto...and on my older (albeit updated with iLife awhile ago) mac mini is iPhoto '11 version 9.2.1 (628)...and on my new iMac the iPhoto version is 9.1.5 (615).  Is this an earlier version? Or just one for the iMac?
How would this be possible in that my brand new iMac running lion (and presumably the most up-to-date software) would have an older version of iPhoto than my mac mini which had the iLife upgrade probably around a year ago. It seems disconcerting that my older mac mini would have a newer verion of iPhoto than my brand new iMac.
Even worse, I tried to update the software by clicking the apple logo upper left corner and select "software update". It said, "Your software is up to date. Software Update doesn’t have any new software for your computer at this time."
What the heck is going on here? and I presume the "version issue" is why I'm getting the error code mentioned above.

  • ITunes sync with iPhoto Problem

    Hi everybody,
i'm experiencing a tedious issue with iTunes and the iPhoto syncronization with i-devices.
I'm running iTunes 10.4 , iPhoto 9.1.5 and i have an iPhone 4 and an iPad both running iOS 4.3.5.
When i sync my iPhone with iTunes i usually chose only 3 separated iPhoto events and no problems occurs in copying the photos on the device.
When i sync my iPad instead i get the following problem:
the same as with the iPhone i choose a limited number of iPhoto events to sync with the iPad but the photos count shown in the iTunes screen is a lot different then the real number of the photos in the iPhoto events. To be clear:
Event 1 contains 300 photos in iPhoto
In the syncing screen of iTunes for the iPad Event 1 contains only 3 photo.
As a result only 3 photo are transferred to the iPad.
I tried to repair and rebuild the iPhoto library (alt+cmd+start iphoto) selecting all the options except the rebuild database from backup option. Nothing changed.
I tried to reset iphoto syncing with the iPad doing as follow:
    connect iPad
    select "don'y sync photos"
choose "Erase all photo from the Device"
    disconnect
    Reboot both devices
    reconnect iPad
    choose sync again.
    Nothing changed again
At last i tried to erase the content of the "ipod photo cache" folder as suggested in other threads in this forums but when i reconnected the iPad and tried to resync nothing changed.
Beaside that i tried even to control and repair permissions on the entire HD with Disc Utility but again i had no differences with the problem.
Does anybody experienced the same problem? There is any known solution? Anything else i could try?
Thanks everybody in advance for any support given.
    Giuliano.

I am having a similar issue.  My iPhone 4, my wife's iPhone 3GS and my iPad 2 will start to sync with iTunes on my MacBook (running Lion) and when it begins to import photos from iPhoto, I get a (-50) error and the sync quits. Some events sync just fine but others trigger the error message.
I have deleted the iPod Photo Cache, reinstalled iTunes, reinstalled iPhoto, repaired and rebuilt my iPhoto library, restored my iPhone to factory settings, repaired permissions on my MacBook and anything else I could think of or found in previous postings.  Nothing has worked.
Please help!  This is incredibly frustrating and no one at Apple has been able to help.  Thank you!

  • IPhoto - problem sending photos by email

    Hello,
I now encounter a problem when I want to transfer photos to friends, something quite new !!!
    I get the following advertisement
"The mail server did not recognize the association of your usere name and password"
Can you help me solve this problem?
Thanks a lot for your help
    Regards
    Claire

First of all, I took the photos with my iPhone - then I transferred them to iPhoto included in my MacBookPro (using the USB) but I kept the photos in my iPhone.
Then, from my MacBookPro, I tried to send some photos to friends but got that message "The mail server did not recognize the association of your user name and password"....
So, I thought of trying to send those photos to friends FROM my iPhone and it worked beautifully.
    Where is the catch?
Thanks Barry for trying to understand the problem

  • Iphone 4s and iPhoto problem - please help me!!

    Hi there
I have searched the discussion boards for an answer to my problem, but cant find one yet.
I have a brand new imac with Mavericks installed and up to date. My iphoto is the latest one according to the app store and I have ios7.0.3 on my iphone 4s.
I have about 300 photos on the iphone and i connected to the imac with a usb cable and it appeared as though all the photos were imported in the usual way, so i agreed to delete them off the iphone when prompted to do so.
However, the events for the appropriate dates have been created, but they are grey and all claim to have 0 photos in them.
When I look at last import, it says that the last import was the import I did a few days ago and appears to ignore the one I have just done.
Please can anyon help me find where my photos are in a simple way. I am getting very cross and frustrated. I have used macs for 7 years with no problems until this.
I would also add that my iphoto is very slow and regularly stops responding so that I have to force quit.
    Help appreciated!
    Thanks a lot
    Nick

Thanks to LarryHN and Old Toad, my problems are nearly over, I hope.
I did the repair and, thankfully, my missing photos are back.
However, I now have about 100 photos which are on my iPhone 4s camera roll and when I plug the phone in, it says that it has already imported them, but I can't find them in iPhoto!
I can see the pictures on the mac when the phone is plugged in and I look on the iphone, but I cant see where they are.
Do you think that having photostream has complicated matters at all?
Also, why does the photo stream on my phone (and ipad) show more photos than the photostream folder fir Nov 2013 in iphoto? Is there a delay in appearing in iphoto?
Finally, about 3 out of 5 times, iphoto becomes really slow and stops responding, requiring a force quit. Any ideas why this is and how to fix it?
THis is a great forum, thanks to everyone for help so far.
    Nick

  • Iphoto problem

Can anyone help me with a small problem, all my photos on iphoto used to be in date order i dont know what i have touched but everything has changed into thumbnails

It's actually a new feature for iPhoto. If you go to events or Photos on your sidebar, the events and photos will still be sorted by date, but you'll still get thumbnails.

  • Strange iPhoto problem (from version 4 to 6!) - stuck film role

I have a really strange problem. I introduced it to my iPhoto library probably with version 4.
It survived iPhoto 5 and now I have it in iPhoto 6.
There is one film role which is always the newest in the archive view. There are no pictures in the role and the role can't be deleted (all buttons greyed out). I cannot even rename it. Part of the problem is that when I select this role there is always the role before selected as well.
Something really strange is going on. I tried to rebuild i Photo database etc. But nothing helped.

    Macgaspode:
    Try this:
1 - in the Originals folder delete the folder that represents the phantom roll
2 - do the same in the Modified folder if it exists.
3 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
Be sure to make a temp backup of our iPhoto Library folder beforehand just in case. I don't think you'll need it but it's best to error on the safe side.
