iPhoto will not import pics that are in the iPhoto Library Folder - a sensible precaution against duplication.

  • IMovie not seeing iPhoto in the Media Photos tab iMovie 6.0.3/iPhoto 6.0.5

    Hello
I'm trying to use iPhoto through iMovie, but it doesn't see iPhoto under the Media>Photos tab. It says "open iPhoto 2 or later to see photos from your iPhoto library in this list."
I have iPhoto 6.0.5 and iMovie 6.0.3, and even when I open iPhoto it doesn't recognize. Restarting computer didn't help.
    Please help,
    Chris

    Greetings,
I am having the same trouble with both iMovie and the new iTunes 7.
Here's a clue: We share our photos and songs and have relocated the photo library "Shared" and have set up an ACL. It has been working great, except iMovie seems to not understand it has moved. I can use iPhoto to create a new library in the user 'default' area, and iMovie sees it fine. But even if I switch libraries when starting iPhoto, iMovie can't find it, and there appears to be no way to browse for another iPhoto library.
iTunes 6 worked ok, but after downloading iTunes 7, I have the exact same problem.
    Any ideas?

  • Can't add photos to iMovie

I have tried to click on one photo and drag to add or click on multiple photos to add.  Once, when I selected multiple photos, iMovie only took 1 of the photos.  Another attempt, it took 2 photos only of the batch.  With each time, however, iMovie tells me it is adding the number of photos I select but the photos do not appear in the project. Now it won't add any photos whatsoever. I bought my new MAC in 2012.  Do not know the version of the operating system. I do have iMovie version 9.09 but it was not in the drop down menu provided.

    Hi
There can be several reasons to why iMovie ill behaves.
    • Pref files got corrupted - Medicine: trash them
    • The movie project got corrupted files within it - throw them away and replace with fresh new ones
    • Free Space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk is to low (very common origin): I never go less than 25Gb - if You got less than 5Gb all strange things might happen
    • Photo file format - I only use - direct from iPhoto or .jpg - never ever .bmp or other alient formats - all converted to .jpg
    and much more
As more info You provide - as easier it will be for us to figure out what's the problem

  • Iphoto 5 cannot add photos to library

    hi,
most of the photos that i have on my computer are not showing up in iphoto. they're all in the correct folders (iphoto library with automatic date subfolders), and iphoto used to display them. i have tried several times to re-add the images to the library, but every time i get an error message:
Unreadable Files: 1 [or # of photos i'm trying to add]
the following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data).
these are just standard jpegs (and a few movies taken with a digital camera), and they work fine when opened in preview or photoshop. not that i have much use for iphoto anyway, but it would be nice to be able to use it once in a while.
i recently bought a new digital camera, but i doubt that this is the issue - both the old and new cameras are canons and work fine. any ideas?
    thanks,
    adam

  • How can i add photos to iMovie trailer

How can you add still photos to trailer in IMovie on IPAD2?

Currently the only way is to make in iMovie movie, and add the photos you wanted to use.
Export this to the camera roll, and import that video into the trailer.
    Bit of a workaround sadly.

  • Cannot add photos to iMovie project

I had started work on an iMovie '09 project (version 8.0.4) and was using both videos and photos in the project. However, after a certain point when I tried to drag a photo into the project area, iMovie would not let me add it. I am still able to insert videos, though. Also, I am not able to publish the project as a quicktime file. I created another project and the same problems persisted. Any ideas on how to fix this issue would be much appreciated. Thanks.

usually, I do NOT recommend reinstalling ( a ritual habitual on inferior OSs.. ) , but in your case, indeed, there IS something seriously wrong.. give it a try, and tell us, what happens..
did you do the 'trash plist' routine.. ?

  • Aperture 3 & iPhoto - How to add photos w/o putting them into the library

    Hey Guys,
I want to know if there is a way of using iPhoto or Aperture without having to store my photos into their library.
I've been traditionally keeping my photos in my "Pictures" album by adding folders and numbering them accordingly to keep track of my albums. Because some times I edit stuff and what not, their dates are often modified and thus when I drop them into iPhoto or Aperture's library, it screws up the order of my folders. Hence I've never really gone around using iPhoto and Aperture.
I'm currently using Picasa only because it allows me to "link" my photos to it's application instead of having to dump all of it's photos physically into a library of its own. Besides though, Picasa's functions aren't all that fantastic.
Is there a way for Aperture or iPhoto to do the same thing so I can keep to my own method of handling my photo albums, and yet benefit from iPhoto or Aperture's editing functions?
For reference, this is how I keep my pictures.

I don't think you've grasped Aperture or iPhoto. Both are Digital Asset Managers. Neither are photo editors, which seems to be what you want.
    Specifically
Does this mean I can still edit a picture
    Yes.
    a) save it as a new file,
Not without exporting first - and frankly, why would you bother waste the disk space. Further, these apps are Managers, the point is that you access the photos via the iPhoto or Aperture application, not the Finder. It's a bit like AddressBook. That's your address manager, it makes no sense to try and root around in the Application Support Folder to access and address because the +access point+ to this information is the AddressBook window.
    b) save over the original picture?
Neither app will do this. The +entire point+ of these applications is to preserve the Original as a "Digitial Negative" and not to ever change this.
If you want to directly edit the photos then you need a photo editor like Photoshop.

  • How do i move photos from imovie to iphoto

How do I move photos from imovie to iphoto?

You cannot put photos in a trailer. They are designed for videos.
However, there is a way around this.
Go to the Project Library view. Select your Trailer. Now, click FILE/CONVERT TO PROJECT.
    Now you can add photos.

  • Suddenly, I am unable to add photos to my project in Imovie 11. I have an IMac Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and have made several movies where this worked fine but for some reason, it has quit. Everything seems to be working fine except that?

I'm an oldtimer and have had this Mac for less than 2 yrs and have LOTS to learn - but I've climbed the curve a little.  !'ve made several movies and published to YouTube and burned to disc using IDVD with reasonably good results. Each time I have added stills to my movies it has worked fine - but tonight, I'm suddenly unable to add them. I click "Photos" -     select my photo - left click the photo and drag into the project while holding the click. Have the green "+" and the green highlight and even get the green vertical bar in the project but when I release the click, the photo simply disappears!  One "clue" here may be this:  I was able to add one still to this project and the only diff between it and the other still thumbnails now is that there is a "green check mark" on the thumbnail of the one successfully added.  Any suggestions?  (I do have the "advanced tools" option selected in IMovie Preferences.)
Thank you so much for any help at all.
    Sam

    Hi
    My first thoughts are
    • iMovie ill behaving - Trash the iMovie pref file - use to set things right
    • in reg. to Photos - Did You change iPhoto Photo Library - Then iMovie get's lost as it peeks into iPhoto on start up to see where photos are stored. Set iPhoto back to first Photo Library (when iMovie is not running) then start iMovie.

  • I want to start with audio on a timeline and add photos. Why is this not possible in the new confusing version of iMovie?

I want to start with audio on a timeline and add photos. Why is this not possible in the new confusing version of iMovie?
    Yrs,
    Unspeakably Frustrated

Yes, you can do this. Drag the music track to the background and start adding your pictures. A great way to do this is to use beat markers so your photos will change on the beat.
A really fast way to do this is to line up your photos in an iPhoto album in the order you want them. You can drag the whole album into iMovie at once.
Here is a tutorial on the beat marker feature.
Here is a sample of a slideshow made by dragging in the music first, adding beat markers, and then adding photos.

  • Trying to move an iPhoto photo to iMovie and it duplicates the last imported photo instead

I have added several still photos to iMovie, then all of a sudden when I try to add another photo, it duplicates the previous one.  I've tried numerous photos, all taken with the same camera at the same time as the ones previously sucessfully added, and it just duplicates the last photo.

Debbie, I've got a list of things to look at and tryout to see if we can narrow down what's happening. Try any one in any particular order see if the problem keeps happening.
    1. What format are the original photos in?
    Are the all the same?
If they are different, do some work and others do not?
File formats that are “raw” may be a problem.
File size may also be a problem if they are very large files.
    2. Duplicate the project in the Project Library
Try dragging a photo into that copy of the project
Any differences? If you can import photos into the Duplicate, try copying then pasting into the original and see if the image shows up.
    3. Duplicate a picture inside of iPhoto
If you want to have a particular picture and can find it within iPhoto try making a duplicate.
Does it show up in the Photo browser? And can you drag that picture into the project. What do you see what result do you get?
    4. Clean the iMovie cache
Quit out of iMovie. Then go to your Movies Folder > iMovie Events >  Project folder name
Drag the folder "iMovie Thumbnails" to your trash. Then open the folder "iMovie Cache" and drag the file "Cache.plist" to the trash.
This should regenerate any cached thumbnails for the project, may be helpful.
    5. Try tossing out the iMovie preferences
    Quit iMovie.
Open a Finder window to your user's Library >Preferences folder. Find the file named "com.apple.iMovie.plist" and move it to the trash.
Try iMovie again by opening the project and dragging a photo from the Photo Browser into the Project timeline.

  • Why can I no longer add photos my iPhoto book? Is there a limit to the number of photos? Must I delete unused photos??

Why can I no longer add photos my iPhoto book? Is there a limit to the number of photos? Must I delete unused photos?

This is book # 13 and I've not encountered this problem before. I am dragging photos into the sourse pane but they are not imported. I have other books w/ over 700  pics (not all used) but this has only 300+ so far. I've copied the book to a pdf and it looks as if I'll have to redo it unless there's another solution.

Thanks for your quick response. I thought I had tried that but I must not have because it worked perfectly.

  • IPhoto 9.4.2, photo stream-add subscriber?

    Hello
I cannot figure out how to create a list of subscribers to share my Photo Stream pics.
I succeeded in adding photos and have a Photo Stream icon in the Source panel, which shows my chosen photos, but not what? How do I notify someone or add a subscriber?
IPhoto 9.4.2, on Mac Pro with Lion.
Sys Prefs > iCloud, checked Photo Stream
In iPhoto prefs > turned on Photo Streaming.
Dragged some photos from an Event into Photo Streaming icon on left.
After a while, it finished (uploading? syncing?).
Clicked on Photo Streaming and I see the pictures.
Now trying to "Add a Subscriber."
Clicked on Share in lower right corner----pop up menu shows Photo Stream among other options (order prints, Flickr, Facebook, Email)
    Clicked on Photo Stream
Window opens saying "all the selected photos are already in your photo stream."
I know that but how do I choose people to share them with??
Went up to Share in iPhoto main menu and Photo Stream is greyed out.
I read whatever I could find, in Apple Help, iPhoto, elsewhere on the web.
Tried to find answers but either the instructions read as though I want to change subscribers, or provide step by step, where one of the steps just is not an option I see of can find.
Anyone, please, unravel this mystery for me? Thanks

    Thank you LarryHN.
While I do have an iPad Mini with v6.1.3, my MBP is only in Lion (and my Mac Pro in Snow Leopard). Oddly, until your post I could not find anything about Mt Lion being a requirement.
I followed the link you provided. More help but also more confusion.
There's this persistent presumption that key steps, detailed-specific steps, are or will be "understood." Like for example, letting someone know I have put a group of photos into Photo Stream, for their viewing. Adding subscribers keeps getting me info on modifying subscribers, not the step-by-step instructions for isolating a set of pictures, putting them into a so-called photo stream, or album, then making that available to them AND letting them know it. This morning I got as far as choosing some pics on my iPad and putting them into Photo Stream (or were they already there?) Then creating a PS or Album from a subset of those pics, giving it a name, choosing a person from my contacts....then what? I click Done. Then what is supposed to happen? Once again, this presumption of knowing or maybe it's a presumption that most people won't care to know how it is working and be done with it, after clicking done.
As a test I did this using one friend, and also using myself (using a email address other than my Apple address.)
I later opened my MBP, tried Mail to see if I got notified (nope) then opened iPhoto and looked to see if it was there. But I can't really tell. What I mean is, I do see pictures when I select Photo Stream, but there are more here than in the test-to-myself PS I set up and (sent?) from my iPad. Is this because the MBP is in Lion, not Mt. Lion? Or because, although I am the same person sending and receiving, I am using two differenrt email addresses (therefore am limited to PS only and not Shared PS?
I don't know. This is just way too murky and non-intuitive. I appreciate your reply but don't want to take up any more of your time. So I suppose I'm just whining and ranting at this point. Thanks anyway.
