IPhoto 5 won't close down

I haven't had any trouble with iPhoto 5 until this week. Now the program refused to close down normally and even Force Quit is sometimes not able to do the job. Also, when editing photos, the Saving Changes bar comes on with its buddy, the spinning beachball and nothing happens. Force Close is then used. I have Repaired Permissions a couple of times, but no change. I have checked for software updates, but all is current.
I have AppleCare as a backup but wanted to canvass the community first.

Try rebuilding your iPhoto library. This is undocumented, but when starting up iPhoto hold down CMD-OPTION (i.e. ⌘⌥). When the dialog box comes up, select the option to rebuild your entire database; it's fast and safe.

  • IPhoto won't close down

After opening iPhoto, the program will not Quit, will not Force Quit.  I've done the command-option-escape and any other combination of keys.  Last time I tried to turn off the computer with button on back, but no.  Ended up pulling out the plug.  Now I hate to open iPhoto for fear of a repeat.  What to do?

Here is the crash report.  It eventually (maybe 8-10 min.) closed after showing this report.  Thanks Larry,  for whatever direction you can give me.

Hi. First time of asking a question so hopefully I will include all sufficient information.
Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit.
iTunes latest version as of today (15 April 2015).

  • Reader won't close down, running high CPU

Hello, I've recently updated to the Reader XI thinking that it may solve my problem, but it was happening with the previous version also.  After viewing pdf files and closing the files, Reader still continues to run in the background.  CPU usage runs at 50% and if I've open multiple files, CPU usage runs up to 100%.  My computer is slow, lags, gets hot and the fan continues to run.  The only way I can seem to close the program is through the task manager.  The application shows as AcroRd32.exe*32.  When I stop the application, my system resumes to normal and the fan stops once the computer has cooled down.  Can anyone help with a solution?  I'm also running Windows 7.  Thank you kindly.

I'm having the exact same problem as cmmcaw above -- and yes, I'm running Windows 7, too (and it's completely updated).  A few days ago, my computer slowed down to a crawl, the fan was running full blast, and the machine was getting hot.  The next time my computer was on, I scanned my system thoroughly, and there was no sign of malware.  The next time my computer's fan started churning, I opened up Task Manager and discovered that Adobe Reader X was not shutting down (and yes, my CPU was running at 100%).  I have now installed Adobe Reader XI in the hopes of fixing the problem.  It appears to work all right when I'm in my Administrator account, but when I'm in my User account, I encounter the same problem that I had with Adobe Reader X -- Adobe Reader just does not shut down properly.  Reader XI opens up just fine, and then it appears to close, but in reality Reader is actually running in the background, trying to fully close down.
In order to solve the problem, I tried to download the .zip file you suggested above, but it won't download (and that's on my Admin. account).  Adobe encounters some sort of error (it won't say what kind).  I tried downloading the file with my virus scanner turned off, but still no go.  Cleaned cookies, ensured they were enabled -- still no go.
So, why does Adobe XI seem to work okay on my Administrator account, but refuse to shut down properly on my User account?  And how do I fix this problem?  I mean, I can alway just shut it down fully through Task Manager, but it's not supposed to work that way.

  • Labview won't close down properly after installing Service Pack 2

    Hi,
We installed Service Pack 2 for Windows XP recently and ever since, I've had trouble closing down Labview. I'm using Labview 6.1 and whenever I try to close it down, it won't fully close down and I have to use Task Manager to shut it down.
What happens is that I get a minimised window on the bottom of the screen that won't go away.
Has anybody seen this before and can anybody help.
    Thanks,

In my experience, SP2 for XP introduced a whole lot of bugs and mishaps. You would be better off uninstalling SP2 if you can. If you want to keep SP2, you may have to uninstall Labview, then re-install it.
I personally can't confirm this statement. I have XP SP2 with the latest patches applied and I have not really problems with LabVIEW 6.0, 6.1, 7.0, and 7.1. Only NI-Max likes to crash sometimes but since it is a notebook I have little reason to run NI-Max until now.

    Hello
    I have a 13" macbook pro with 4gb memory.
I have recently downloaded ilife '11 and it was working well for the first few days. I have imported photos from my iPod touch, and from photo booth.
once i uploaded some photos from ipod touch and even after i have unpluged the ipod touch, i cannot shut down, restart my macbook or close iphoto and every time i do try, it popup appears saying: Photos are still being imported to the iPhoto library. Please wait for the import to complete.
This has been like htis for around 2 or 3 weeks now and i dont know what to do.
I have also noticed that my macbook has been overheating since I haven't shut it down for some weeks now.
How can I get this popup away?

You can force quit an application by holding down the command-option-esc keys. You can force power off your MBP by holding down the power button.

  • Firefox won't close down all the way after watching a video. I exit out, and the sound continues. When I try to re-open firefox, I get a message about how I have to restart my computer. How do I fix this?

Basically whenever I watch a video and I exit out of the video I have to restart my computer to get Firefox back open. If I exit out or go to a new page while the video is playing, the audio continues like nothing has happened. I've checked my task manager and it shows that Firefox is closed. When I try to re-open Firefox I get an error message that tells me Firefox is running but is unresponsive and I have to restart my computer. How do I get it to stop doing this?

Try holding control, alt and delete down in succession and then a dialogue box will appear with windows task manager. Once open click on the Processes Tab and look for firefox.exe. Highlight this and then click end process. It should come up with a warning but just click Yes. This should then close firefox and allow you to reopen it from your desktop without shutting down your computer. Hope this helps.

  • Library rebuilds but iPhoto won't close on its own

I recently had to restore my entire system from a backup and when I did, the largest of my libraries, 1945 photos, would not load up without doing a rebuild. The rebuild completes fine and all the photos are restored but when I try to close iPhoto, it just hangs. If I Force Quit it, it's as if I never did the rebuild at all and the library is inaccessible again.
Is there anything I can do short of reimporting all those photos into a new library?
