Iphoto 6.0.5 no longer recognizes canon ixus 50

Hi,
I am unsure whether this is the right forum, but it seemed to be the best match.
I've been using my canon ixus 50 with iphoto 6.0.5 and tiger 10.4.8 with all updates installed on an intel c2d imac with much joy.
One day it just stopped working, however. The camera is recognized in system profiler's usb menu, but iPhoto fails to see it, as does image capture, no matter how many times I turn it on, off, pull the usb cable, etc. It's very frustrating and I have no idea what has caused it. It may have been the latest security update as it definately didn't work after that one, but that may just have been a coincidence.
Any advice? I should mention that the camera still works fine using gphoto2 on my linux x86 machine, so I don't think it's the camera or cabling.
Sincerely,
-Kenneth Straarup

Hi,
I just tried out parallels and winxp to see if that would properly detect the camera (to try and rule out hardware defects). Upon selecting the camera from the usb menu parallels responded that the device was being hogged by another application.
I'm guessing this is the reason iphoto or image capture doesn't detect it as well. Now I just wonder what I could do to find out what application that is...
Sincerely,
-Kenneth Straarup

iPhoto 4.0.3 no longer recognizes my Casio. It says no camera selected. Apple Help couldn't "help". Any solutions our there?

Is the setting on normal USB mode or something? My sony camera has 3 USB modes, Picbridge, normal, and something else. Or maybe you could try installing the software that came with the camera to see if your computer recognizes it.

  • Premiere Elements 11 no longer recognizes Canon HV30

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated to my problem.  I have been using PE 11 to download HD camcorder footage from my Canon HV30 camcorder to hard drive.  I've gone through about 15 tapes and all was going well.  Two days ago I went to download the next tape and PE no longer recognizes the Canon.
My setup:  Windows 7.  Canon HV30 connected to PC using Firewire cable.  Drivers updated, etc.  The cable appears fine (if I force PE to switch to "standard definition camcorder" the Canon appears as "Microsoft Camcorder" and PE will control the camcorder).  I have tried plugging/unplugging cable at various times; starting PE with and without camera plugged in; uninstalled and reinstalled drivers for the firewire card.  I am now at my wit's end.
The only change between when I last downloaded footage on Sunday and Wednesday was a MS Windows update and Quicktime update.  So I have uninstalled Quicktime.  Went through the same tests: start with/without Canon turned on; reboot, etc.  Nothing works and I'm at a loss.  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

First thing, quickly reinstall the latest verison of  QuickTime or use the version that was just updated. QuickTime is a requirement.
If you want the 7.7.4 prior version, please try the following link. But, for now I would go with the latest version of QuickTime 7.7.5.
    http://www.oldapps.com/quicktime_player.php
Download and install HDVSplit and do a capture firewire with it. That will give you split clips MPEG2.m2t to put on your Timeline.
Here we are using it as a troubleshooting tool. If it works, it may become your permanent tool.
Did you remove the Windows Update?
In Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks, where do you have the Captured Video and Captured Audio fills directed? How much free hard drive space is at that location?
Please review and let us know if any of the above had any impact on your situation.
    Thanks.

  • IPhoto 9.6 will no longer recognize my Library

I just upgraded my iMac to Yosemite. Once upgraded, I had to update my iPhoto to 9.6. Now, I can't open any of my photos. This is the message I get when I open iPhoto:
    Caution
The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it. iPhoto can try to repair the permissions.
    Repair/Quit
I click Repair, it asks me for my password, I type it in, and it says Repairing photo library permissions
    Then I get:
The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it.
    Ok
I click ok, and then iPhoto closes.
So I tried holding Option and clicking on my iPhoto Library. iPhoto opens up and tells me:
The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it.
Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete.
    Quit/Upgrade
I click upgrade, it says it's upgrading, I watch the bar go all the way to just before the end and then it freezes and iPhoto says it's not responding. I've tried this many times and even left it on for 1-1/2 days to see if anything would happen. I have to Force Quit
    Other things I've tried:
    - Re-installing iPhoto 9.6 twice
    - Using Time Machine to retrieve an older backup of my Library
    - Using iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild my Library
Nothing works. Someone please help me! I desperately need to access these photos for work! Is there something I'm not doing?

The library is corrupt. These are your options:
    1. Restore the iPhoto library from the most recent backup that predates the issue. In this case, you probably don't know when that was.
Advantages: Always works, if library damage is causing the problem and the backup is intact.
Disadvantages: Impossible if you don't have a backup. All changes made since the backup are lost.
    2. Repair or rebuild the library. Be sure to back it up first.
Advantages: May solve the problem with no loss of data.
Disadvantages: May fail. May take a long time if the library is large.
    3. Scavenge the library with a third-party application called "iPhoto Library Manager," which you can find in a web search. From the application's menu bar (not the iPhoto menu bar), select Library ▹ Rebuild.
Advantages: All images should be preserved.
Disadvantages: All books, calendars, and slideshows will be lost.

  • IMovie no longer recognizes Canon XL2 firewire

OK, I don't know if anyone else is having this issue. I have rented several Canon XL1 / XL1s / XL2 in the past, and was < easily > able to import the miniDV footage into iMovie. However, with the latest operating system and my G5, iMovie HD 6 does not recognize there is a camera attached via FireWire (4-pin to 6-pin). At first I thought it was the cable, or the camera, but it will connect to a Dell laptop via the 4-pin to 4-pin FireWire cable (but that doesn't help me because then it imports the video in AVI -- yuckkkk). Any suggestions. Canon's website says the camera is compatible and there are no drivers to download. Thanks.

  • IPhoto & Image Capture don't detect Canon Ixus 850 IS in one identity

So, bear with me on this one, it's a long saga:
Canon Ixus 850is doesn't appear as a device to have photos imported from one identity on my iMac, but does work on others.
Symptom: Plug in the camera and it doesn't "switch" into computer mode (preview screen goes blank, card reader light flashing. It does this in another identity on the same computer. System profiler shows it connected to the USB port. Image capture -> Browse Devices shows the camera, but it's not "connected".
    Things I've Tried:
    PRAM reset
    Permission repair multiple times
Removing all the user's start up items
clicking "connect" in Image Capture -> Browse Devices (nothing happens)
    new USB cable
different camera -> I take this to mean it's not the camera's problem, but the mac. Another canon isus (different model) has the same problem.
    iPhoto library rebuild
    Removing image capture preference files
    Multiple restarts
All software is up to date (OSX 10.5.7 & iPhoto 8.0.3)
    Reinstalling canon software
I'm at a total loss. Any ideas (except for using a memory card reader
    Thanks!

  • IPhoto no longer recognizes camera in 10.6

    Hello,
I just upgraded to Snow Leopard. Now when I open iPhoto it no longer recognizes the digital camera (Canon PowerShot SD960IS). No change in the settings. Worked fine in 10.5
Anyone else experiencing this? Any solutions?
    Thanks.

Okay. I rebooted the machine and ran iPhoto again.
This time it recognized the camera, but it took a full 5 minutes to display all the images.
Strange because there were only about 50 photos (2-3MB each) to preview.
Importing was equally as slow. Took about 8-9 minutes to import everything.
Something strange is going on with 10.6, iPhoto, and preview/importing of photos that wasn't there in 10.5.

Installed the CC updates yesterday. Downloaded pics from my Canon 70D in Camera Raw. Since the updates Bridge no longer recognizes them; advises me to get the latest update, which I have. Both Photoshop CC's recognize the pics, just not Bridge (thanks for having Photoshop now show thumbnails of CR pics). Any Ideas on how to fix?

Thanks for the link Jeff. Couldn't find any links on the Adobe site.
Even with that link though, I was still left puzzled as it didn't give multiple versions, just a 32 bit and 64 bit version.
I tried the 64 bit and it didn't work, so I assumed that was what had already been installed in the update.
Now installed the 32 bit version, and fingers crossed. At least it starts up now!

Since upgrading to Mavericks my iMac no longer recognizes my digital camera.  iPhoto will open, but my camera never appears in the source list or goes into import mode.  Help!

  • IPhoto 08 no longer recognizes my pictures!

Recently, when I opened IPhoto 08, it gave me a message that I needed to upgrade my thumbnails (I do not remember what the exact message was). I clicked OK. Ever since, IPhoto no longer recognizes my pictures. It is as if they are completely gone. Thankfully, that isn't the case (they still come up when my screen saver kicks in).
I tried reinstalling ILife 08 but that didn't have any effect. I thought about reverting back to my previous version and re-upgrading, but I wanted to check here first.
Quick responses would be appreciated - I really need access to my pictures!

    Angella:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You're experiencing a damaged database file. Try the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open Photo window
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
To recover a little easier from similar damage see the tip at the end of my signature below.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • No longer recognizes photos

I have tons of jpg photos on my hard drive. Many of them are organized into iPhoto albums. iPhoto no longer recognizes any of them. When I open iPhoto it says Loading Photos and will keep that up forever. When I try to import photos, either existing Albums or standalone jpg photos, iPhoto says "Unreadable files--following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)." But these files open just fine in Preview. What's going on? What do I need to do to fix this? Thanks for your help.

HI, ascjohn, and welcome to Apple Discussions. Posting here is not a way to get an answer from Apple, as these are user-to-user forums. Apple personnel rarely contribute anything to them, and almost never anything of a technical nature. Apple technical support is provided through other channels.
If, when you open iPhoto, it loads and loads and loads and never finishes, force-quit it, then hold down the Shift and Option keys while opening iPhoto again. Keep holding them down until you are asked whether you want the database rebuilt, and click Yes. When that process is finished, you should once again be able to quit iPhoto normally and open it normally.
If the problem you share with Gingerdog is not that one, but the inability to import photos from folders on your hard drive (outside your Pictures folder) or other sources, I'm not sure what to suggest. Please describe the problem in more detail: are the photos in question on your hard drive? Where? are they JPEGs, or some other file format? What version of iPhoto are you using? What troubleshooting steps have you tried? What error messages, if any, do you get, and at what stage of the import process? If no error messages appear, what does happen?

  • Inability to sync Canon Ixus 75 via Iphoto (does not appear on Desktop)

    Hi all,
My macbook does not seem to be able to read my Canon Ixus 75/SD750. Hence I am unable to sync it with Iphoto 6 via USB cable connected directly to it (when connected the camera does not appear on the desktop).
Only way for me to sync it with Iphoto is to remove the SD card and connect it via a USB SD card reader.
Any ideas/suggestions as to how I can sync it? Any Canon Ixus 75 or SD750 users out there ?

    Eric:
Have you tried a different cable? If you have another Mac or access to one (or even a darkside computer) check to see if the camera can be recognized. That will determine if the camera to computer cable is good.
I heartily second Terence's recommendation of using a card reader.
    Do you Twango?
