IPhoto 6.0 slide shows looks very distorted

I have a new 19'' widescreen TFT monitor on my mini mac and now my iPhoto 6.0 slide shows looks very distorted.
This widescreen TFT have a 16:9 aspect ratio (1440x900 pixel).
I found no setting in iPhoto for the screen with an 16:9 aspect ratio. There are only format settings for 16:10, iDVD or act monitor. But no one works fine!
Is there any possibility that I can show my "slide shows" in the correct format? (Also with black bars)
Can anyone help me fix this problem?
Thanks in advance

I am experiencing a very similar problem. Michael, have you solved your issue yet?
With my setup (PowerMac Dual G4 533 MHz with an NVIDIA GeForce2 MX graphics card, and Gateway FPD2185W monitor, native display resolution 1680 x 1050), iPhoto slideshows show pictures off center (taking up the right 2/3 of the display and leaving the left blank). The entire picture is also not visible. I'm sure it is switching resolutions when doing the slideshow since when I stop the show, some of my apps are in different positions on the display. I have tried switching stuff in the preferences, as well as trashing my old iPhoto prefs file. Nothing worked.
Thanks in advance for any insights!

  • My Exported Slide Shows look bleary

I am making music videos with Iphoto, I expert them to Quicktime format to put up on the web, but the images look bleary.
In particularly I made jpg slides with Keynote - images with text comments, saved to jpg format, through the files in to IPhoto, did a slide show and exported to Quicktime format.
I put them up on the web, the music sounds fine, but the images are so bleary it is hard to read the text of the keynote slides/jpg.
Anyone have suggestions how to make clearer slides, make a slideshow with good music and good video images?
    Thanks,
    JE

I fully agree and have the same problem. My .mac iWeb Site has several albums. On a PC (even with Safari) the slideshows are now useless because the images are tiny. Upgrading to iWeb 2 somehow shrunk down the slideshow. When I click on the individual pictures, they open up fine in the new iWeb 2 mode and I can even hit the download button fine to copy an image to my drive. However, hitting the slideshow button brings up tiny images! The slideshow is now all but useless for Windows users.
Hope someone can help out with this problem!
    Thanks Klaus

  • IPhoto screen-saver Slide show, where is it?

I'm looking for pictures that show in the Screen saver slide show but not in iPhoto or Aperture folders.
    They were there last week.
    Hoping for help!

I had a quick scan of those comments, and most of those are from more than 18 months ago. The comments from this year are either: factually wrong ("very few slideshow designs" - it has 35 or thereabouts) or complaints about the Upgrade policy.
There is no substitute for downloading and trying it yourself.
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie, on every Mac sold, as is iDVD.
    Others, in order of price:
    PhotoPresenter $29
    PhotoToMovie $49.95
    PulpMotion $129
FotoMagico $29 (Home version) ($149 Pro version, which includes PhotoPresenter)
    Final Cut Express $199
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs.
However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Express is the most capable app of them all. You get what you pay for.

  • IPhoto books and slide shows vs. iMovie

I have put an iBook together and it looks great. To play it in a slide show with text and titles is wonderful. The problem is that I cheated. I fooled iBook into making double trucks (two page spreads) of some of my photos...Looks great in book form but plays as left page/right page in a slide show. Not good. I could just make a slide show from a folder...But then I get no text page or title page. If I make an iMovie of my images, they look soft (out of focus) and I am limited in the amount of text I can output. If there is a way to get print into the iPhoto slide show, I would be happy. Any ideas?

If you had iDVD on an older Applications DVD disc that came with an older Mac install that and then make sure you use Software Update before you try to start the program. You could also try doing software update now and see if any newer upgrades/updates are available.
I suspect what they transfered is an older version that will not run on the new OS X. Once updated/upgraded to a newer version it will work.
But then you may need to do a reinstall first.

  • Iphoto save instant slide show

I created a book in iPhoto with a specific theme, titles, photos etc.  The "instant slideshow" that I can play while selecting the book under "Projects" takes all the specifics from my book and puts them into a slideshow format that I would like to save.  I am unable to find a way of doing this.
In reasearching online, I have found suggestions of selecting the book and then creating a new slideshow based on it. However, while that keeps the actual photos, it does not retain the theme, placement, titles etc.  Since I have spent a good deal of time creating this book, I don't want to re-create it again just so I can have a slideshow/soft-copy version of it.
How can I save the instant slideshow that is based on my book?

It can be done but it's more than a one step process. First go to Toad's Cellar and download these two files:
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Unzip the files and place in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder and reboot.
Next go into the book and start a print process:
1 - go to the View All Pages mode in the book.
2 - type Command+P to start the print process.
3  - click on the PDF button and select "Save PDF to iPhoto".
4 - select either of the files above (300 dip is used for photos to be included in a book that will be ordered and 200 for slideshows, etc.).
5 - in the window that comes up enter an album name or select an existing album and hit the Continue button.
That will create a 200 or 300 dpi jpeg file of the item being printed and import it into iPhoto.
6 - immediately rename the images in order with the Batch Change ➙ Title to Text  ➙ Page with Append checked. This will let you keep the pages in order if they get mixed up for any reason as their original titles are really weird and not in any order.
6 - select the images of the book and create a slideshow.  You can set the theme and transition and add music to it if so desired.  This demo page has such a book converted to an iWeb slideshow. It will give you an idea what the page images will look like: iPhoto Book as an iWeb Slideshow
Note:  I use this method to create an iDVD slideshow of each book I create and give as a gift.  This allows several viewers to view the book at one time on a TV set. iP05 - Creating an iDVD Slideshow From an iPhoto Book

  • Aperture and iPhoto Slide Show

I am new to Mac and considering Aperture. I shoot with a Nikon D70s and use mostly jpg and some RAW. After editing in Aperture, would I need to export the images to get them into iPhoto for a slide show; either RAW or jpg?
Not knowing exactly what I am doing, when I download RAW files into my PowerBookPro via iPhoto, they are converted to smaller jpg files. If I use Aperture, will they still be converted upon download?
These may be very basic questions, but I would appreciate the advice.
    Thanks.

while the NEF (5.2 mb) was converted to 1.1 mb and a second 36 kb data file.
No it wasn't converted (and you saw it later in the /Originals) that's the preview I referred to above:
iPhoto makes a jpeg Preview of the RAW file,
Photo makes a Thumbnail of everything on import.
The question now, when I see the image in iPhoto and want to make edits in iPhoto and/or Aperture, will it be to the NEF 5.2 mb or jpeg 1.1 mb file?
First: iPhoto (because the two apps may seem similar but are in fact quite different)
It'll be the RAW file. Try it and see. When you edit a RAW there's a badge in the iPhoto Window.
(This is all detailed rather better than I can explain it in the iPhoto Help. Search on RAW) Note that only a camera can make or edit a RAW file, so all your edits in iPhoto are "published" to a jpeg (or tiff if you so elect in the iPhoto preferences.)
This is how iPhoto preserves your Original file.
Aperture is a rather different beast.
When you manipulate a file in Aperture the applications records your decisions in a database and then when you go to look at the file again... it applies your edits live as you open the file. This is how it preserves the original file.
If you want to access the file in another application - for instance add it to a Pages document or whatever, Aperture uses the Preview it creates for this purpose. The Preview is a jpeg of the edited file. However to get full quality versions of your file use one of the many export possibilities.

  • Exporting slide show from iPhoto to QT raises contrast and darkens images?

I have been using iPhoto to create slide shows (with transitions) which I then save as QuickTime (.mov) files. I add soundtracks to the QT.mov file in QuickTime Pro and burn the finished slide show to CD's for my friends and coworkers.
The original photographic image files come from several sources; mostly a digital camera, but often scanned color slides (from the dim, distant past). All of the images have been (painstakingly!) corrected in PhotoShop, and saved as finished size Jpeg files.
When I import the images into iPhoto, edit and arrange them in a folder and preview the show as a slideshow in iPhoto, the images still look perfect.
When I save the show by exporting it to QuickTime, all of the images get darkened and the image contrast increased.
    This is making me nuts.
To quantify the unwanted "enhancement" that iPhoto seems to be applying to my images, I experimented in PhotoShop; I can make the original (correct) image match the "QT enhanced" image by decreasing the "Lightness" slider by -8 to -12, and increasing the "Contrast" slider by +11 (in whatever units PhotoShop sliders are calibrated).
The resulting change in the images is infuriating: the darkening increases the color saturation and blocks up the shadow details so that many images are unusable.. black skin tones, for example, become a dark red/brown color with an unnatural gradation from light to dark.
Further experimentation using IDVD and QuickTime slide shows (without transitions) made from sequencial files directly in QT seem to indicate that the problem is not in QuickTime itself, but rather in the transition from iPhoto to QuickTime when I export the finished folder as a slide show.
It seems like iPhoto is "enhancing" or "tweaking" the images as it exports them to QuickTime: It adds contrast and reduces brightness, both of which might serve to add "snappiness" to a lot of generic snapshots that people shoot, but my images have already been fixed (thank you) and really don't need anyone's generic "tweak"
Does anyone know what it's doing, and more importantly to me, how do I turn the damned thing off?
G5 dual 2.3Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Terabytes of disc space.

iPhoto can make two different types of slide show movies. It would help to know which you're making.
One is made via the File/Export to QuickTime movie and makes a 4 track file with a simple fade effect. These use the Photo-JPEG codec.
The other is a 30 fps "video" using H.264 video codec via the "Share" menu.
A third method (rarely used) is to Export to iDVD. This makes an absurdly high data rate MPEG-4 video. This is also found under the Share menu.
The MPEG-4 video codec also includes an "automatic" gamma correction feature which compensates for the gammas difference between Mac's and PC's.
Try one export to iDVD. Include your audio track prior but use a high quality (.aiff) sound file. No need to actually "burn" the DVD. You can even close iDVD after it opens. You'll find the new movie in your Users Movie folder.
Open it with QT Pro and export to a new .mov file. Adjust the data rate to something more reasonable and add some audio compression.
If the colors still look too dark you can use the built in Filters in the Export dialog. You can adjust B&C or HSL or even use ColorSync Profiles that can help correct the image quality (if needed).

  • Aperture slide show - very sluggish start

I have the most powerful Mac ever   (MBP Retina 2,6 GHz) and to start a slide show looks not very impressive - that dreadful rainbow circle for 10-15 seconds every time and then waiting for another 10-15 sec. (+ two aperture crashes during one day). All fresh installations. It does not look very great .. Still something to be improved from the Apple part ?

How large is your slide show? A moderately sized slideshow on my MBP starts immediately, unless I use the "Places" theme and Aperture needs to connect to the internet to download maps. What theme are you using for your slideshow and how many images are in the slideshow?
Do the images in the slideshow have high quality previews?
two aperture crashes during one day)
Have you done any trouble shooting after the crashes? The reason for the crashes may be the same, that is causing the slide shows to start up so slowly.

  • Using FCE to improve an iPhoto slide show exported DV file

    Hello everyone
I was looking for a quick good way to create a slide show easily, without manually adding various transitions, panning etc....
Well, iPhoto makes a great slide show, fast n easy music and all.
I've exported a Slide Show as a 'Large Sized DV File'.
Only problem, as everyone knows, the iPhoto Slide Shows look great on a high resolution computer screen, but when using the exported DV file on a DVD, it's not as good.
I have found however, that re-importing it into FCE, rendering it, and re-exporting it, produces better results when this DV File is used on the DVD.
Anyone have any comments about this?
    Thanx

  • HT2178 I do not have sound on my computer.  It was fine last night but when my husband turned it on this morning, there was now sound.  Also My iPhoto shuts down when I try to run a slide show.  I have just had my computer for 2 1/2 weeks.

I had sound on my computer last night but when turning on this morning there was no sound.  It is not muted.  Any suggestions.  Also, when I try to run an event in IPhoto as a slide show, it shuts down.

  • Iphoto slideshow Turned slides when exported to iDVD

Some photos are turned after export to iDVD, how can that be? More importantly how to fix, the slide show looks fine in iPhoto. The image quality is another issue and I'll follow the iMovie thread because I have 353 slides using 19GB in iPhoto. Why are photos being turned?
    G4 400 AGP graphics upgraded to 1GHZ & Radeon 8500   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   500 Gig FW 800 back up drive, ESATA 1.5 TB, DVR 109

    James:
They are being turned because for some reason iDVD is taking the Original version instead of the rotated version in the Modified folder. These are portrait photos from a camera with auto-rotate capability. I suggest you try exporting the rotated version to a folder on the desktop, drop then into an open Safari window to make sure they are truly rotated and then import them and replace the problem versions.
This can be circumvented by uploading to a folder on the desktop first, previewing the photos in Preview of some other application and then rotating them with a 3rd party application. I use PhotoToolCM which is a Contextual Menu application that will losslessly rotate the photos.
You might try rebuilding the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options. Next add some photos to iDVD and see if they are correct. You can also drag the thumbnails from iPhoto into the open iDVD slideshow window and try it that way.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Trouble publishing slide shows

when i was using iphoto 6, my slide shows were published on this .mac page:
    http://homepage.mac.com/longhaulpro/PhotoAlbum1.html
with iphoto '08 (version 7.1.2), the slide shows are published on another .mac site:
    http://gallery.mac.com/longhaulpro#100061
the gallery.mac site that iphoto 7.1.2 is using moves very slowly and seems to have glitches (harder to move pictures and add captions after the slideshows are published)
is there a way to go back to using the older .mac gallery i was using with iphoto 6, while still using iphoto 7.1.2 to load and organize my photos?
    thanks.
    dan collison

    dan:
Your gallery opened and played very fast for me, without any hesitation. Maybe there were some server issues when you tried.
You can still use the Homepage version by building the galleries/slideshows online. Go to the .Mac page, log in, and go to the Homepage section. There you will be able to create new segments.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Making a slide show with ActionScript

I know, I know...why aren't I using Powerpoint to do a slide show? Because I want to incorporate more detailed animation into the presentation that I can only do in Flash. My question is simply this: How do I simply make Flash move from one image to another via clicking? The script I was trying to use involved a stop on the frame and this:
    on (release) {
        gotoAndPlay(2) }
...on the image, which is a button. I don't get any errors upon export, but the functions still don't work. It remains stuck at frame 1.
I don't want thumbnails or anything in this. Just to stop on frame 1,  click, then go to frame 2, stop, click. You get the idea. There will also be occasional animations and sounds happening over the images, which I imagine I can just use matching scripts for.
Can anyone suggest what actions I can apply to frames and/or clips/buttons to achieve the slide show look?

That one didn't work either. No error messages, but it also doesn't move. But I had some luck with this code:
    on (release)
        _root.gotoAndStop(2);
I don't know yet how to make it change scenes, but it's definitely working for the slide show effect. Thanks very much for your help, though!

  • 9.4: slide show shows only a dozen photos

    Hello.
If I press the slide show button at the bottom in any given smart folder or album, slide show is supposed to show the content of the folder/album as a slide show. So it did before 9.4. Now I have major problems with iPhoto:
    - before the slide show even starts I sometimes have to wait for 5 minutes while some reading or writing is happening on my external drives (those are not related to iPhoto at all).
    - when the slide show eventually starts it will only show a limited number of photos (like about a dozen) instead of all photos in the folder/album. At the end of the 12th or 13th photo you're stuck. The photos are not the problem because they worked in the last iphoto version.
Like this, I can't use slide show at all. I took my library to a friend. Aperture has no problem with my library and slide shows.
Is this just a iPhoto 9.4 bug which I need to wait for Apple to fix (some time next year) or is there any setting I can tweak/reset etc. ?
    Thank you for your help.
    R.

Problem #1, the incredibly long start time for a slide show incl. heavy reading/writing on external drive, is still there.
How big is your HD and how much free space on it?
    (which I also (re-)created with 9.4).
    What does that mean?
Plenty. But only Aperture has the OS integration. Not all have Smart Albums. Search on MacUpdate

  • How to burn decent resolution slide show onto DVD ?

First of all I'm a newbie to this (PS8 Elements and Premier). I have a slide show with music in "Slide Show Editor". When I view this slide show in 'Full Screen Preview" I see a decent resolution but when I burn the slide show onto a DVD the resolution sucks if it's shown in "Full Screen". ( the slide show looks decent if shown in a smaller screen). I took the pictures with a 7 mega pixel camera. Another thing that happens when viewing "Full Screen" in the burned DVD is the text (if it fills the whole screen) some text is hidden around the borders.I burn the DVD in the Premier program.
