Iphoto 6 and Panasonic DMC-FX37

Hi Everyone
I wander if you might be able to help me with an issue I have with a new digital camera and iphoto 6.
I use iphoto 6.0.6 and I have recently upgraded my digital camera from an Olympus 410uD to a Panasonic DMC-Fx37 and found that the pictures of the Panasonic are only visible in the main Library (size 5394 pictures). If I look in any of the iphoto default folders such as Last 12 months or year folder 2009, the Panasonic pictures do not show up. In fact the only way to get the pictures to become visible is to create a Smart Album for just the Panasonic, using the camera model as a way of selecting the pictures. I first noticed this quirk when I had synced my IPod. The iPod does not Sync the main Library but only the iphoto and user generated ones. By creating a smart album for the Panasonic pictures I have managed to back up the photos to the iPod, but the problem of iphoto recognising the photos in the default folders is still unresolved.
Can anyone shed any light on this problem or I am stuck with this?
All answers gratefully received.
Kind Regards
Working Man

Hi TD
Thank you for your assistance todate and as you seem to have taken as interest in my iPhoto problems, I thought I woudl post you an update. I followed your advice and downloaded iPhoto Library Manager and went ahead and rebuilt the Library. Everything was going to well until the build process was cancelled when rebuilding last one or two rolls - the rolls that contain the FX37 files. The result was iPhoto shut down and produced a log saying that the following files are corrupted (FX37 photo files). The files are still in the main Library and can be pulled together as a smart album under the cammera name and edited at will, but the dates are not recognised and therefore it does not show up when trying to search for these in the main Library. Another quirk is that the last two film rolls are out of sequence with the previous ones, so roll 261, 262, then roll 454 etc.
I intend to try the following:
1 check iPhoto with my older camera to see if pictures from this import correctly. (thereby elimnating the iPhoto; and
2 check the SD card inside my Panasonic FX37 and try it in my Olympus and then reimport a test picture;and
3 check the panasonic camera with a different SD card with a test picture;and
4 Back up the FX 37 photos and delete from the main Library and reimport;or
5 Create a new library and reimport from the back up.
Any Advice would be gratefully received.

  • Iphoto and panasonic lumix dmc-fz28 raw (.rw2) files support

It appears that iphoto or max osx does not currently support the panasonic lumix dmc-fz28's raw format (.rw2). Is this true? If so, does anyone know when support will be available? If it is supported today, how do you make it work?

Since even the most recent updates to iPhoto do not contain DMC-FZ28 importers for RAW, I use the free and EXCELLENT +RAW Photo Processor+ ( http://www.raw-photo-processor.com ).
For a donation (I gave $10) it will add the feature to open the converted image into the program of your choice. Of course I use iPhoto, which it automatically launches and then imports the image to it's database. Since it also has both batch capability and the ability to pick the image next to the last RAW image in the directory of your previous photo, it's great for importing large numbers of RAW images into iPhoto.
And the control it gives over your import is incredible, certainly on par with Adobe RAW.
I actually found the settings I like best and saved them as a profile for my camera (it works automatically for all Lumix cameras, but you can tweak them quite finely).
Another nice thing about this little app is it is both multicore and multiprocessor savvy. Since it allows you to pick apps to open the imported images in, there's no limit to the the programs you can chose to add to your drop-down list.
It solved the problem for me!

Won't work shooting in 60P format. But will work fine in the others. I use the built in card reader in my Mac and it shows up fine in iMovie.

  • Panasonic DMC-FZ8 and Leopard - third party plugins for use of RAW?

    Hello!
I have a Panasonic DMC-FZ8 camera, and frequently find myself in situations that require the use of RAW image format. Unfortunately, even as of the 10.5.4 update, this camera's RAW format is not supported by OS X natively - only through Photoshop Elements 4 in my case. (Leopard's formats as of today: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1475) While I can read and edit the raw images, it's a hassle to go through photoshop when importing images - Ideally, i'd like to simply import the images into iPhoto ('08) to browse and touch up - instead of opening in PS, editing, saving as JPG (or TIFF), and so on.
Is there any plugin for OS X that will allow me to view/use my RAW format - at least in iPhoto? Ideally, I'm thinking of something similar to the way the perian plugin works for Quicktime. (See here for Perian: http://perian.org/)
    Thanks

    Hi Daddeo,
I have not seen any but some of the codes that some of us have been receiving in this forum have worked for me as a plugin. I copy the code and paste it in a snippet and it does what I wanted. Search the forum for the things you want to accomplish. Chances are someone has asked for it and someone has helped. If you really do not find anything ask and someone will help.
    Good luck

  • Cant import using Log and Transfer to FCE 4.0.1 from Panasonic DMC-TZ10

Does anyone know if/how I can import into FCE 4.0.1 using Log and Transfer? I use Log and Transfer with my Sony HDR XR200VE Video Camera but when I try this with the Panasonic DMC-TZ10 I can play the clips in the Log and Transfer Clip viewer however they don't import after I add them to the queue. It just gives me an ! icon and gives up.
I guess I need to know if there is a combination of camera settings and Codecs I can choose that will allow me to successfully import into FCE 4.0.1 using Log and Transfer.
The settings I can choose on the DMC-TZ10 camera are the Rec Mode (Either AVCHD Lite (GPS Rec), AVCHD Lite, or Motion JPEG) and the Rec Quality SH, H or L).
iPhoto 09 and iMovie 09 will automatically import video from this camera if I choose Motion JPEG and H on the DMC-TZ10

Log and transfer only supports AVCHD. It does not support AVCHD Lite, nor will it work with Motion JPEG media. You could use third party software to convert it, or iMovie and then export a QuickTime movie from there in the correct codec and format.

  • AVCHD - Iphoto does not import videos taken with Panasonic DMC-TZ7

    Hi,
I come from the Iphoto forum in which I was told that if Quicktime can support AVCHD format, then I can import the videos taken with my camera (Panasonic DMC-TZ7 making ACVHD lite) directly into my Iphoto library. I found that easy to be able to look at all pictures and videos in the same library/software.
Do you know when quicktime is supposed to be updated ?
    Regards,

Thanks for this very quick answer.
Do you have any idea when this format is supposed to be supported by Iphoto : until now I found so nice to be able to have in my Iphoto library both pictures and videos...
I am quite new to Mac and being obliged to use two softwares for "the same" purpose make me feel like going back to the PC universe !

  • Panasonic DMC-LF1 RAW files and Elements 11

Having just purchased Panasonic DMC-LF1 and after downloading the latest update for PS Elements 11, Elements still will not recognize the LF-1 RAW files. Please help.

    stein016
You realize that installation of Camera Raw that supports your camera allows you only to import the raw file into Premiere Elements 11 project, not edit it there in the Camera Raw dialog. For that you need Photoshop Elements. All that being said...
    1. Premiere Elements 11 Camera Raw appears to be at 7.4. No updates beyond that so far under Help Menu/Updates or elsewhere.
    2. When I look in the Adobe Camera Raw Supported Camera list
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
I find "Panasonic DMC-LF1" which appears to need Camera Raw 8.1 which is not available to Premiere Elements 11 at this time.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2013/06/camera-raw-8-1-and-dng-converter-8-1-now-a vailable.html
Probably the people in the Photoshop Elements Forum may have a better perspective on when if ever this Camera Raw 8.1 will arrive and for what version 11 or the next version.

  • How can i use Nikon D 7100 and Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1 with Photoshop CS 5 Camera Raw?

How can i use Nikon D 7100 and Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1 with Photoshop CS 5 Camera Raw?

The one needs 7.4 (or better), the other 8.1, so Photoshop CS5 with ACR6 is not up to the task.
The free DNG Converter could be used to convert the RAW images to DNG which your version of ACR should be able to process.

  • Panasonic DMC-G10 and DMC-G2

Can anybody at BB tell me if and when BB will get these latest Panasonic four thirds cameras in the stores?
One or the other of these (probably the DMC-G10)  will check all of the requirements boxes for me insofar as digital cameras go.
    Thanks

    Hi dvdwillly,
I finally got an answer to your question. At this time we don't plan on carrying the Panasonic DMC-G10 or the DMC-G2 DSLR, but this doesn't mean that we won't be carrying either one of these cameras sometime in the future. I think the closest Panasonic camera we sell right now is the DMC-GF1.
    Thanks for your patience!

  • Anyone use the Panasonic DMC-ZS7 with iPhoto?

I'm thinking of getting the Panasonic DMC-ZS7 camera, which has a built-in GPS. Out of the new compact cameras with built-in GPS, this seems to have the best built-in GPS support. Before I get it, I just want to confirm that the GPS data it writes to the EXIF header can be used by iPhoto correctly. I use iPhoto '09 (8.1.2).
Has anyone used the ZS7 with iPhoto?

I recently turned the GPS function on. I am unsure if GPS is the problem, but the spinning busy next to the "Places" menu item certainly points that direction.
I would actually argue the opposite, that the spinning busy means that iPhoto can read the GPS data correctly. The fact that it is trying to determine places would indicate that it sees GPS data. More likely the spinning busy is due to something after getting the GPS data like trying to look up actual place info online to get names or downloading maps or something of that sort.

  • Import from Panasonic DMC-FZ28 Lumix

Trying to import from Panasonic DMC-FZ28 Lumix but the only import option is the
in-built camera on my MPB (10.5.7).
I can see the camera in the Finder window and can click on various photos.
When the camera was connected to the USB port and select the setting as PC Connection.
Is there something else I need to do in order for iMovie to see this camera ?
    Thank you,
    Jay

If you are using iPhoto, import the photos into iPhoto. Then, in iMovie, start a new Project and name it (or open and old project). Open the Photo Browser in iMovie, and drag the photos in from there.
If you are not using iPhoto, drag the jpegs from your camera to a folder in the Finder.
Open iMovie. Start a new project and name it (or open and old project). Drag and drop the photos from the Finder window into your project.

  • Panasonic dmc-tz1

I love my new digital Panasonic DMC-TZ1. I can insert pictures into a Word document - but can't click and drag the picture from iPhoto 6 into the document. When I do that I get the error message "quicktime and a tiff (uncompressed) decompressor are needed to see this picture." Any suggestions?

I just ran into a similar problem myself. It used to work, but now it doesn't. I assume that something broke with a recent update of iPhoto or Word. I want to get it fixed for Drag and Drop, but for now I have a solution that is successful, but requires a few extra steps. I selected all the photos I might want to use with Word for now, chose Export, chose File and Original Format and put them all in a Folder. Viewing that folder in the Finder by Icon I could change the View Options to make the icons pretty large, then I just dragged the pictures from the Folder one by one into Word and they worked fine.

  • Pre-purchase help – AVCHD/Motion JPEG and Panasonic TZ7...

Having searched, I've found a number of posts (and an Apple KBase article) highlighting the "incompatibility" of AVCHD format files (.mts) with iMovie.
I have been contemplating upgrading our compact "family" camera, and the new Panasonic DMC-TZ7 seems to fit the bill, as it appears to be the best 'hybrid' stills/video camera currently on the market (for me anyway). My old Fuji F30 had excellent low-light performance, so I was very interested in their latest F200EXR, but it's the added HD video capability (with zoom, stereo audio, wind-cut etc..etc.) on the Panasonic that wins it for me.....
I've had a DV camcorder for years (several in fact), and have never really used them to capture the kids growing up liked I'd hoped – mostly due to the 'inconvenience' of having carry both a stills and a video camera, and it ends up only coming out for 'special occasions'. Needing to replace the F30 prompted me to re-visit the possibility of a hybrid camera, and to me, the spec of the recently released TZ7 almost makes it a no-brainer!
I'm no stranger to video editing/encoding/transcoding etc.. (it's my day job!!), or creative apps (it's my night job!!), but as I can't get hold of a TZ7 in my local Jessops, I'd appreciate help from somone who has one.....
My understanding is that AVCHD (Lite) support is currently flaky both in iMovie and FCPro. I was certainly unable to directly import one of the posted sample .mts movies, or view it in Quicktime without conversion (to be expected). Hopefully (presumably?), Apple will add this support in Quicktime at some point down the line, or Panasonic will make a codec/plugin available.
Obviously, the AVCHD Lite files are going to be quite small, but the TZ7 can also record in a 'Quicktime friendly' Motion-JPEG format, 1280x720@30fps (albeit in a larger file size) which could either be viewed in the Finder, or ingested into iMovie or FCPro for editing as required.
    I'd really appreciate knowing:
    (a) what difference – if any – is there in the quality of the 2 formats off camera? and
    (b) what are the different file sizes for a minute recording (noting that AVCHD format can be at 17, 13 or 9Mbps).....?
Hoping someone can help with this.

I use two (fairly) similar Panasonic cameras with iMovie, and have no problems at all.
One's the small Lumix LX2 (..and before that, the LX1..)
    and the Panny FZ28..
I just take out the SD card from the camera and put that into a card reader, and import the images and movies into iPhoto. From there, I can import the movies into iMovie. Or I can just drag the movies off the card onto my Desktop, and then import from there into iMovie. (I find it's faster to read the images via a card reader rather than by connecting the camera(s) with their own special USB cord.)
The movies from the LX1/LX2 aren't hi-def, but are perfectly acceptable - except when the 'digital' zoom is used beyond the limits of the optical zoom, and then the movies look rather poor.
The FZ28 movies are hi-def (so-called) though only at 720p, not the "full-size" hi-def of 1920x1080. Nevertheless, they also look good.
The feature which drew me to the Panny cameras is that they can shoot stills, and movies, in 16x9 (widescreen) format at a 30fps frame rate ..so they can be "mixed'n'matched" with material shot by 'proper' camcorders, if required.
I'm in a rush at the moment, so I can't go into file sizes and all the rest, but you can download an instruction manual for the camera from the Panasonic website, and that'll list all the technical details you may want.
I use 8GB SDHC cards in my camera(s) and that gives about 33 mins recording time with the FZ28 (depending on complexity of the scene, amount of movement, etc). In fact I've just shot a wedding with the FZ28, and that's come out OK! (..Though I've used iMovie09's video adjustments to brighten up some of the material shot in a darkish room ..the low-light performance of these cameras, for video, doesn't match a proper 3-chip camcorder like the Sony FX1, though low-light stills can be excellent at 1600 ISO).
I haven't used the model you ask about - the TZ7 - but it's similar in spec to the two (three) mentioned above which I have used.
For your info, here's a short movie of material I shot with the LX2 and the FZ28, so that you can see what sort of quality they deliver: the image stabilisation's good, the video quality's good ..they're very good all-round performers for stills and video!

  • Importing to LR3.3 from Panasonic DMC-ZS3

Sorry if this has been addressed. I couldn't find anything about it.
    Windows 7 Pro, 64bit, LR3.3, 2-SanDisk 2gb cards, RAW USB 2.0 UDMA reader
Ever  since upgrading to LR3.3 I have not been able to Import files (jpg)  from my wifes SD cards straight to LR. Her camera is a Panasonic  DMC-ZS3. Prior to LR 3.3, ie; 3.0 it worked fine. I can copy via  explorer to the hard drive then Import them to LR 3.3 without a problem.  OK, there is a problem. I use LR's automatic folder destination creator  by date taken, on import. It takes too much time to create all these  folders using explorer.
The Import report says the files  were not imported because they could not be read but reads them fine  from my hard drive. It reads and imports the files from my Nikon (CF  card) fine also.
Any ideas why LR 3.3 does not like these files anymore.
    Jim

    Jim,
Bad card readers and/or USB connections (cables, ports, hubs) are known to cause issues like yours. Somehow, LR seems to be more affected by these problems than the O/S tools.

You could copy the files into ONE temporary folder via Explorer, and still use Copy/Move and LR's automatic folder creation by date.
