IPhoto 6 crashes when opening with iPhoto Library Manager with external sto
I've had stored many iPhoto libraries on my Freecom Mobile Drive 160gb, accessing them via iPhoto Library Manager, for years. Suddenly, when I try to open a library, iPhoto crashes. I'm still able to go into the storage disk so I don't think this is damaged. I've also reinstalled IPLManager (using original 3.2.3), without any luck.
I get this crash report (greatly abbreviated)
PID: 809
Thread: 0
Exception: EXCBADACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000
Does this make sense to anyone? I can't understand why one minute everything is fine, and then the next a procedure which has worked for a long time, doesn't. BTW, I've taken off lots of junk from the Freecom external drive (have 44gb available) and 3gb available on my iBook.
Many thanks in advance for any help or advice.
That
Exception Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE
is always a Data Related issue.
So use iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the Library. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

IPhoto crashes when opening library over AirPort
I'm having major problems with my iPhoto library when opening iPhoto. If the external hard drive on which the library is stored is connected to my AirPort Extreme iPhoto says "loading photos" and then crashes. However, if I plug the external hard drive directly into the USB port on my MacBook it opens fine with no problems whatsoever.
Is anyone able to help me? Should I also post this in the AirPort Extreme area?
Many thanks...Kempard:
I've had no problem opening libraries wirelessly withe AE when the drive was connected to another Mac connected to the AE. But many users have experienced just what you've experienced when the drive was connected directly to the AE. How is the drive formatted? iPhoto likes OS X Extended best.
Do check the AE forum as a different setup g instead of n or whatever, might word. Opening photos wirelessly can be very slow depending on the size of the file, etc. It's not an ideal setup.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file. -
Iphoto crashing when opening nettwork library..
i have set up my mac mini as a iphoto server for my house. it runs 10.5.2
When i try to open the library trough the network on another mac mini iphoto never opens, the computer is thinking/working, and finally i get a error message that it has crashed or something. this computer also run 10.5.2.
the librar is stored on a external drive, so i can ignore acount restrictions on the library.just found out that my mac mini that has the library on it is connected with 10mbit LAN (even if network card is 100 mbits and the router is the same). the mac mini im trying too acess the library with is connected wireless. Also tried to copy files between these to computers, and it goes verry slow.
before i set upp the iphoto server, i tested to view some pictures with preview trough nettwork, and that took me around 6-7 seconds to load the next picture. now it takes over 30-40 seconds.

IPhoto crashes when opening photo
Actually, the photo does not even exist! I am trying to back up my library on an external hard disk, and every time it gets to a particular photo, it stops the operation because it cannot read or write it (which is stupid, it should just note it and go on, or at least ask me if it wants to ignore it and continue). This photo is not to be found in Spotlight, in the photo library, etc. But, when I get to where it would be in iPhoto (lots of my photos are unnamed and in alphabetical order), iPhoto immediately crashes. So I cannot even get to it in iPhoto to delete it (if it were even there, I can't see it). The main thing I want to do is back up my photos. Any ideas? Thanks.
If the photo is gone but iPhoto thinks it is still there then the library is corrupted.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function.

IPhoto crashes when opening, iPhoto crashes when opening
For a couple of weeks now, iPhoto crashes every time I open it. I have repaired disk permissions.
What else can I do?Hold the option command keys when launching iPhoto and repair permissions as your first step, before moving on to rebuild.
If all else fails with the built in Photo Library First Aid then download:
http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/
always good to have a full back-up.

IPhoto crashes on opening after moving library to external HDD
Hi
After filling my ibook up with phots to the point of bursting, I decided to buy an external harddrive and store the iPhoto library on it. This all seemed to work fine until I opened iPhoto (for the second time) and started importing photos from my camera. It kicked me out of iPhoto and now it will not reopen.
I have read all the advice on here and have followed the guidance. I have run the permissions programme, downloaded the library manager and run a rebuild. Everything.
I have put a copy of the backup onto the extrenal HDD and this opened fine the first time but not the second. I can get it to open by taking the library.photo from the backup and putting it in the library folders in the external HDD and this allows iPhoto to open for about 5 seconds before kicking me out. Next time I try and open it, I get kicked out immediately.
I had thought that the HDD might be read only but I changing that has made no difference, although I have my suspicions.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
LauchlanWell first off, don't import an old library into a new one. You'll get massive duplication of photos as all the versions are treated a new photos. It's a mess.
What you need to do is recover your Original pics from the old library and put them into the new one.
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
So, find the old library on the HD and right-click on it. From the resulting menu choose 'Show Package Contents' and a finder window will open with the library exposed. You'll see the Originals folder. Drag it out and the from it drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
I think it unlikely that a permissions issue is the cause of the crashing, but it might be some damaged jpeg files. See how you get on with the above.

IPhoto crashes when opening partially completed book
Using iPhoto 5.0.4 with Tiger 10.4.3 OS on a 1 GHz PowerPC G4 laptop with 768 MB of memory.
I created a book in iPhoto using the Yearbook Theme. I have 266 pictures either in the book or waiting to be placed. At least 230 pictures are on pages. There are 38 pages in use. At this point when I open the book, it opens to the pages selection and I can move off the current page by one or two pages before iPhoto freezes up and then quits. I am unable to view pictures at all. Fixes I have tried are repairing permissions, dpi settings, and cleaning caches from this discussion board.
Any additional help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
PB G4 Mac OS X (10.4.3) 768 MB RamI tried Lori's suggesting about opening each photo in iPhoto. I was able to get through 6 - 10 photos before the program crashed again. After trying to open and view each photo separately and crashing numerous times, I decided to try to make the book on a different machine.
I transfered the iPhoto library to my iMac G5. I was able to work on the project for about a half hour before the crashing began on that computer.
I removed all photos from my iPhoto Library (over 6000) and just imported those I needed for the book. Previously, I had used the Yearbook theme. This time I tried the Picturebook theme. I was working with 290 photos. I filled the standard 20 pages then started adding pages to the book. (My book needs to be 40 pages). At this point I again started to crash in iPhoto.
My images are standard images from digital cameras and scanned images. Scanned images are either 150 dpi or 2400 dpi. Is the size of my larger scanned images the issue? Is there a size limitation on the images in the book? Since I have used two different computers and have gotten the same problem, the common factor seems to be the photos themselves. All of the images I have set aside for the book will open in iPhoto, so I don't believe I have a corrupt photo.
Any other ideas or thoughts you have for me?
Thanks again for any help you can give. -
IPhoto crashes when opening application
I'm trying to upload photos from my camera and update my photo albums, but iPhoto keeps crashing when I try to open the application. I've deleted com.apple.iPhoto.plist from my Preferences folder and I haven't done anything with GarageBand recently or ever, except maybe updated in Software Update. I'm attaching my crash log/problem report in the hopes someone will understand it. Thanks for any suggestions.

If so - my recommendation is that you don't do it. If your iPhoto collection is anything like mine, the amount of data is massive. Trying to transfer all that data over a wireless network connection is going to take a fairly long time. You can use the hard drive connected to the Airport base station for backups - but keep your active working files (like your iPhoto collection) on your Mac's internal hard drive or a hard drive plugged directly into your Mac. Or if you really must connect the drive to the Base Station, run an ethernet cable from the base station to your Mac. -
Hi,
I'm trying to start a new query in SSMS, but every time I click the "New Query" button on the tool bar or open a new query window by Object Explorer -> right-click -> Script as -> New Query Editor Window, SSMS hangs with (Not Responding)
and has to be restarted.
I'm running SSMS 2012 (v11.0.3381.0) on Server 2012 6.2.9200. I'm connecting to the primary node of an AlwaysOn Availability Group, and SSMS is located on the primary node itself.
I'm aware of KB2908806, which describes the same symptoms, but this only applies to Windows 6.3.x. Is there an equivalent fix for 6.2.x, or another workaround?
EDIT: To confirm behaviour: "New Query" works intermittantly, Script as ... to -> New Query Editor Window always crashes.Hello,
there are many reasons your SSMS process would "hang", including bad server performance or internal SSMS processes being suspended due to locking.
When you open a new query window, what your SSMS application does internally is to open a new connection to your instance. You could be experiencing problems in your instance that are causing the logon process to take too long.
How does the bad performance issue generally happen? Is it only happening by connecting to the instance in SSMS? Does the same problem happen when you attempt to connect through an application, or by any other clients?
What happens if you try to connect to the instance through a remote computer?
Check your server's resource monitor for resource usage. Do you see any counters which could indicate performance problems?
Please post the results of @@Version for your server.
Can you open Activity Monitor in SSMS? How many sessions are listed? Does it also take a long time when you first log into the instance in SSMS, before opening a new query tab? Is the SSMS hanging for all databases when opening a new query window, or just
for the ones included in the availability group? Have you tried to connect to your instance by using a DAC connection?
DAC: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178068%28v=sql.105%29.aspx
Do you have any server logon triggers? Are there any traces running other than the default trace? What are your server specifications? How many logical cores does it have? Is it being used in a production environment? Is there any CPU or I/O affinity set
for the instance? Whats your min/max memory settings? Run DBCC MEMORYSTATUS and post the results here.
Are there any error messages in the SQL Server errorlog? Is your server dedicated to the SQL Server Instance?
Run this query and post the results:

CS3 crashes when opening or placing a file with Mac Leopard
I recently installed CS3 Design Premium to my iMac (OS = Leopard). I did the updates as well after installation.
I can start up Photoshop (Extended), and open up files from Bridge application but not from Photoshop itself. When I try to open a file, it crashes. I checked the forum, and find out one more instance like this (it was due to incomplete Version Cue installation). However, I followed up the technical doc but it still happens the same. I actually disabled Version Cue at the preferences but still no luck.
Any help, suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
AsliI've not seen Word crash when selecting a smart folder - but it doesn't 'see' what's inside either. In other words when I select a smart folder in the file selector it appears to be an empty folder. And this isn't just a Word thing - lots of programs behave this way.
I use smart folders from the desktop. I have a folder in my Dock which contains all my smart folders. I open a smart folder from there and then double-click the document I want to open. It is a work around obviously but it works -
Iphoto crashes when opening.
Whenever I try to open iphoto on my macbook pro it starts the process but eventually crashes. I have tried many times to open it but it just crashes. Whjat can I do???? would re-installing iphoto help?? Any Thoughs?
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if iTunes crashed, you would enter "iTunes" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
☞ If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
☞ Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful. -

Iphoto crashes when trying to open with the existing db
Hi there,
iPhoto keeps crashing when i try to launch it with the existing db. I can open it with a new db but am not sure how I can get the old one working.
I love using iPhoto with all the events, faces and other features. Is there a way to get all them back?
Thank you in advance

How to Rebuild/Repair an iPhoto Library. -
IPhoto crashes when I edit with Photoshop!
Whenever I edit an iPhoto photo using Photoshop, iPhoto crashes when I try to import it back into iPhoto. This happens whether I export the photo, Photoshop it, and re-import it, or whether I use iPhoto Preferences to select Photoshop as my editor. I can import other photos into iPhoto, just not photos that have been edited with Photoshop. Help would be much appreciated!
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
older (tiger) cd photo library shows no pics when opened in iPhoto 11 (Mt. Lion) how do i get to view those pics ?...thanx
That library was created by iPhoto via Share ➙ Burn menu, correct? It's old enough that you may have to drag that library to the desktop and open it with the Finder. Then drag the subfolders from the Originals folder into your open iPhoto 9 library window to import.
