1. First off. go to your Pictures Folder. In there you'll see the iPhoto Library Folder. Inside that you will see a folder called Originals. Inside the Originals folder should be Roll folders with your pics inside.
Please confirm that your pics are safe and sound, then post back. How we proceed from here depends on that info.
2. Try rebuilding the database: Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys and launch iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • Exporting Albums from Iphoto (without the whole library)

Hi, I am going through the process of sorting and filing my thousands of photos. I have roughly sorted into Albums but still have to delete thousands from within the albums. I understand in iPhoto that even if I delete the photos in the albums, they will still be stored in the library (as I haven't deleted them in Events, they were just too all over the place so I found sorting into albums first easier to file).
Once I delete the shots I don't want so I have complete and final albums, can I export just the Albums, not the whole library? I don't want to take up space with unwanted shots and I want to make sure I keep only the albums that I have spent time putting into order.
Is there any easy way that I can take only the Albums and those shots (and keep the same heading/ filing) to both export to a hard drive, but also to then load onto a new computer? Or can I even export them to a hard drive, then delete the current library and re-load just the albums rto free up space?
    Thanks

Simple, when you sync your iPad to iTunes, in iTunes on the left sidebar under "Devices", click your iPad, and on the top bar click "Photos". Here, you will be able to select specific photo albums to sync as opposed to the entire library.
    Hope it helps!

  • HELP!! I deleted my whole library!!!

HELP ME!!!! I had a whole bunch of duplicates in my library and I was trying to delete them and inadvertantly erased my entire library!! The songs were all in my recycle bin, I clicked 'restore files' in my recycle bin but they're not back. When I do a search on my computer for some songs that were deleted-NOTHING is found-even in hidden files!!
I tried to restore it by connected my iPod, but that only changed that as well to only songs I've purchased!
I really hope someone can please help me with this!!!!!
    THANK YOU!!

If you have your music on your iPod, this post from Zevoneer tell you how to get it back.

  • IPhoto deleted my entired library...recovery software is confusing

Last night I empied my trash bin and realized that it erased my entire iPhoto library. I've never put my library in the trash so I have no idea how this happened. I recently added a bunch of photos to iPhoto after my last backup so I am worried that they have been lost for forever. I tried using a recovery software (Mackeeper) but it recovered over 1000 files and I have no idea how to navigate through that much data to find the pictures that I needed. I looked in finder in the all photos category and it seems like some of them are there. I just want my library back and am curious if there is anyway to recover it? Any help is greatly appreciated!

    No back up then?
    1. iPhoto didn't delete your Library. Someone put it in the trash and then you emptied the trash. So you deleted your library. iPhoto has no ability to put its library in the trash.
    2. Get rid of MacKeeper. Search this Disucssion site for much discussion about the quality of this app.
    3. Use a reliable file recovery utility such as File Salvage
This will scan your disk for recoverable files. It can be set to scan for images. Actual recovery requires a purchase. At all times choose to recover the largest file size - it has the most likely chance of being a high qulity image.
Unfortuately, there is no way to sort through large amounts of data except manually.
Going forward, remember that with a back up this would not have been a problem.

    Dan,
Your first step might be to follow the advice in this Apple Knowledge Base article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/5.0/en/657.html
    Good Luck!
Post back and let us know how it goes.

  • I backed up my iPhoto library to my EHD then deleted some photo in iPhoto on my iMac to make more HD space. I want to back up iPhoto again to my EHD again but do not want it to overwrite the whole library. How can I make sure it backs up the new photos

Ok so how can i just back up the newer photos to my iPhoto library on my EHD? If it overwrites the backed up library it will delete the older photos that I backed up and then deleted from my iMac HD.

Do you want to back up only your photos and not your current library? Then you will not get a backup of your albums, books, calendars, ..
A lot ofyour organizational work will not be backed up, if you only save the newer photos.
To find the new photos create a smart album:
From Photo's main menu bar:  File > New > Smart album
and add a rule: Date is after ....  ; enter the date of your last backup.
Then export the photos from this album to a folder on your backup drive.
    File > Export > Original
But it would be much better simply to copy the iPhoto library to the external drive, after renaming the older library, so that it will not be overwritten.

You might consider to let TimeMachine do the work and keep track of changed versions.
Use Time Machine to backup the library regularly, so you always can restore a current version aand can find older photos that have been deleted, and make occisiona snapshots of the whole library on a second backup drive.

  • From some reason (i'm not sure why..) my whole iphoto library got deleted. I restored the whole library from my backup. The photos are blank but steel have the photo info. (date, res., size etc.) Do you know what's the prob.? why can't i see my pics.

It's says that file does not exist. How come? And why does it still show the image info.?
Where can i find those files (i have a daily backup)
The original image files are missing form your iPhoto library or iPhoto cannot find them, because the link to the originals has been broken. The image info is stored in the internal libraries, independent of the original files. That is, why you are still seeing them.
I restored the whole library from my backup.
Try restoring from an older backup, from before you first noticed the problem.
How large is the library, that you restored? Is the file size large enough to hold all your photos, or has the size been reduced?  If the library is still large, the photos may still be inside, even if iPhoto cannot find them.
It's says that file does not exist. How come?
What happened, before your iPhoto library got deleted? Which applications have you been running, or which new software have installed or upgraded?  Have you moved the library to a different disk or tried to use it from different user account or access it over the network?

  • Re: iPhoto deleting photos from old library and new library

Hello.  I really hope someone can help me.  I'm about to tear my hair out.  I recently copied my iPhoto library to an external hard drive because I'm seriously out of space on my 24"iMac (2008).  I am a photographer and have a mess of an iPhoto library to clean up.  It was a VERY large volume, and it ran overnight.  It appears that everything transferred fine.  I did the transfer exactly as instructed by many forums: Home > Pictures > iPhoto Library, drag and drop to WD My Book 1 TB EHD formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled).  Then I opened iPhoto via the icon in the dock while holding down the Option/Alt key and chose the new location on the ext drive to point iPhoto to the new library.  My problem is this:   I went into the old library, which I renamed iPhoto Library - Old (after the fact, which I hope didn't cause the problem), and deleted an event that I didn't care about.  To my surprise, it deleted the event in BOTH libraries.  I have tried repeatedly to point iPhoto to the right library, both using the dock and going through applications.  It is as though the 2 libraries are somehow inter-connected, and not separate.  At times, I will open the old library through finder, but I can see it highlight the icon for the EHD and it opens that.  I am at my wits end, as at any given point in time I don't know which library it has brought up.  I am trialling Aperture, and am trying to move photos over to Aperture from iPhoto, but really need to free up space on my internal drive to be able to work with it. I'd eventually like to move the masters to the EHD, etc., but I'm still in the learning curve with all that (I'll be hitting that forum soon, I'm sure).  My highest priority right now is to figure out how to separate the 2 iPhoto duplicate libraries so I can delete the photos from the desktop without affecting the photos on the External Hard Drive.  I've tried everything I can think of and everything I found while scouring these forums.  Here is the information I think you would need:
                                                             - 24" iMac Intel, Snow Leopard (10.6.8), iPhoto '08 (version 7.1.5)
                                                             - 2 TB WD External hard drive running Time Machine, (so everything from the desktop is backed up).
                                                             - 1TB WD My Book that is formatted as I mentioned above, which I copied the iPhoto Library to.
                                                             - 1 soon-to-be-bald photographer.
Thanks very much in advance for any help anyone can give me.  I really like my hair, and don't wish to lose it!
    Gail
PS - Just a little background.  I have been working on this whole space issue for more than a week now.  This is the 3rd new external hard drive I've had this week due to "issues."  Had a problem with all 3 but finally figured this one out, and it's now working fine.  I am so far behind in some photo editing work because of the hard drive space issues, and I cannot seem to resolve them no matter how hard I try.  Hence the frustration.  Thanks again.

THANK YOU LARRY!!  I did not realize that once you switch libraries, it kept you in that library until you switch back using the option key. I thought that the iPhoto icon would take me to the new library, and going through finder to the old library name would take me to the old one.  I was actually in the new library the whole time, and all of the images I deleted were deleted from there.  I just switched back to the old library and all of the photos were still there.  I also tried deleting from the old library, which is what I wanted to do, and then switching to the new library and it did not affect the photos there at all.  So, this was indeed the answer.
Whew, what a relief. You're a life saver.  I might actually be able to get some work done now.
    Thanks again so much.

  • Photos deleted from iPhoto, but still in Library folder

    iPhoto 9.5.1
Strange behavior in iPhoto : let's say I imported 100 photos. Then, in iPhoto, deleted 80, keeping 20. Emptied trash in iPhoto. Then emptied Trash in Finder.
Let's say the "_DSC1234.JPG" photo was among deleted files. When searching "_DSC1234.JPG" in Spotlight, I find it in the "Master" folder of the "iPhoto Library" folder (Photothèque in French).
I've got a lot of photos deleted, but kept in Library, Not good for privacy, not good for hard drive space.
For exemple, I find 514 ".NEF" photos in the iPhoto searchbox. But when searching in the iPhoto LIbrary folder with Spotlight for files with ".NEF" in their names, I find 1048 ! No duplicates, no previews or "faces" (hey are in JPEG), but photos I deleted, before emptying iPhoto and Finder trash !!
    Rebuilding Library didn't help.
I'm using a user account not allowed to administrate the computer. Maybe a link ?
The question was already asked, but never answered :
Growing iPhoto Library, deleted photos still in folders
Deleted Photos:  Why are they still in my iphoto library folder?
Photos deleted from within iPhoto are still in Library folder
    Thanks for your help !

Strange behavior again, with the original library : If I select NO event and use the menu Information, I've got 14.634 photos. If I select all events, I've got 15.760 photos. How can I have more photos in all events than in my Library ??????
Check, if you have hidden photos.
File > New Smart Album,  with a rule: Photo is hidden
In my iPhoto Library the "Hidden" flag accounts for the difference in the Photos count between selecting all events and no events.
Make sure, "View > Hidden Photos" is enabled in the View menu, so you can recognize hidden photos by the X.

  • How can I delete the duplicates in one go, rather than individually?I consoladated my iTunes library looking for a song I bought...my whole library is now duplicated. Thousands of songs and hundredes of podcasts.

I consolidated my iTunes library and now I have duplicates of everything, podcasts, songs, play lists...everything. How can I delete the whole set of duplicates at once. It is thousands of items I can not do them indiviually.

  • How do you move a single album, and not the whole library, in iPhoto to an external hard drive?

How do you move a single album, and not the whole library, in iPhoto to an external hard drive?

File -> Export to a folder and copy it over.
That will give you a folder with the images. There is no way to move an album outside of iPhoto. You would need to have a library containing it.

  • IPhoto Trash Can deleted my entire library

I bought a brand new 27" iMac at the end of Oct 2010, which came pre-loaded with iPhoto '11 (Version 9.1 (475). I copied photos from my old iMac onto CD-ROMS and then imported them directly into my brand new iPhoto '11 by the select, drag and drop method. I deleted maybe 5 photos which the trash can correctly counted. However, when I deleted my trash can, it included ALL the photos in my entire iPhoto library (4000+) and deleted my entire library. These photos were not visible in the trash can before I hit the delete button.
After that happened, I thought maybe I did something wrong, so I manually transferred the photos to my iPhoto '11 all over again. This time, photos which I haven't even deleted appear in the trash can and when you try to empty the trash can, the message says something like "Are you sure you want to delete 4000 photos?" (i.e. my entire library). Plus it seems that I can't manually move things out of the trash can because they just magically reappear in the trash again. Why is this happening?
BTW I just downloaded and installed the latest iPhoto update, but the problem still persists.
As a side note, before deleting my iPhoto library, I had used Migration Assistant to transfer some files from my old iMac G5 (circa 2005/2006) to my new iMac using a firewire cable. However, as I did not transfer any applications, I don't think this would have affected my iPhoto '11, right? It was only after I noticed that my iPhoto library didn't get transferred to my new iMac that I decided to import photos to my new iPhoto '11 manually.
Apple products seem to be getting worse. I've filed a report with Apple, so hopefully they can fix the software. But what can I do in the meantime?

same thing here. out of the clear blue my trash said it had 800 photos in it (my library has 9000 photos in it). I looked at the ones in the trash and they appeared to be still in the real album, as though I had duplicated some of my photos then trashed them. If i tried to empty iPhoto trash it asked me if I wanted to delete my entire 9000 photos (even though only 800 were in iPhoto trash).
I rebuilt the entire iPhoto album (option command button on launching iPhoto) and picked all rebuild etc. options, took a couple hours) but the problem persisted. Fortunately I was totally backed up from a day or so ago, I checked the backup to make sure it did not have the trash problem, and then had iPhoto empty the trash of the one with with trash problem, and like others it dumped the entire iPhoto library! Yikes
Now there are 2 things on my computer that i could not afford to lose, 20 years of photos, and 20 years of quicken data, so I am VERY careful with those, and fortunately it paid off.My back-up is good and I rebacked up that file, but what a disaster that would have been had I lost all m photos.
so, This is not a minor glitch but a huge software issue that has to be fixed fast, not everyone, despite being told so, has good regular back-ups.

You should get your keyboard checked as it's repeating  on a lot of keys and makes you look silly.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Iphoto deleted it's own library

today I tried to open my iphoto library and noticed that all the pictures in iphoto were from Aperature. I thought this a bit odd as I use iphoto only for pictures taken from my iphone and I never import my professional work into iphoto. Then I couldn't open Aperature and got this error message:
So I figured that somehow iphoto had randomly switched libraries and all I needed to do was go into the File > switch to library > and then select the iphoto library. but when I got there this is what I saw:
Now, I have two appereture libraries because one came from my old computer and a much older version of apereture. Neither one has any pitcures from my iphoto library. Upon further inestigation I have found that my iphoto library has completly deleted itself. I did not delete anything from my computer today or yesterday, and it was there yesterday, so somehow it deleted itself. Furthermore I cannot find the iphoto library on my external harddrives that I use to back up my computer. it is as if I never used iphoto. Does anyone have any guesses as to what happened? I have been doing some research on this and have seen numerous reports of iphoto deleting the contents of the library, and even the library itself, but no answers have yet been given to explain what happened in the first place or if it is possible to get those pictures back. Ideas?

How are you searching for your iPhoto library?  You may have renamed it.
I'd search with Spotlight for files with the extension "photolibrary" or for files named "Library6.iPhoto" - each iPhoto library contains an item with that name.  Make sure Spotlight is set in the system preferences to search everywhere.
If Spotlight finds an item like this, use "Show all in Finder" to find its location.

  • Can i delete all AAC files at once without going through my whole library?

Is there a way i can delete all AAC files off my itunes without going through my whole library and deleting them one by one. If deleting them at once isnt an option is there a way to see all the AAC files at once???

Put your library in list view and sort on the Kind column.
