IPhoto 6 G3 Compatible

iPhoto 6 can run on G3 Macintoshes quite easily. I tested this on an iMac G3 500 with 16MB VRAM and 1GB RAM.
The iLife '06 installer will not allow for the software to be installed directly onto any G3 model; instead you have to remove the Hard Disk and insert it into a G4 for the installation. Once complete just add the Hard Disk back to the G3 machine.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. An easier way to install it on a G3 is to connect the two with a Firewire cable with the G3 in Target Mode. Then run the installer from the G4. Much easier than removing hard drives and replacing them.

  • Which is the latest iPhoto version compatible with Mountain Lion ?

Please, which is the latest iPhoto version compatible with Mountain Lion?
I just updated my OS X to 10.8.5 and still have iPhoto '11 v9.2.3. I have been unable to find if there is a newer compatible version of iPhoto; while I know that iPhoto 9.5.1 is incompatible with Mountain Lion.

Do you know where I can get it?
If you have a version of iPhoto '11 installed, try the updater, that Terence Devlin linked to. If you do not already own a version iphoto '11, buy an installer disk from for iLife '11 from Amazon or eBay. You cannot download a full installer for free, only updates.

  • IPhoto not compatible with OSX Yosemite

    I have a MacBook Pro  (17 inch, early 2011) with a 2GHz Intel Core i7 and 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3.
A few weeks ago I downloaded the Yosemite operating system (10.10.3). Since then, my iPhoto application will not open. I can't save pictures to my computer from my phone and I can't edit pictures I've imported. When I try to open iPhoto, it says: "In order to open "iPhoto", you need to update to the latest version. The version of iPhoto installed on this Mac is not compatible with OS X Yosemite. Download the latest version for free from the Mac Apple Store."
I search the app store for iPhoto and no updates are available. The message displayed is: " The item you've requested is not currently available in the US store."
Anyone know what to do to solve this? I really need to be able to edit photos. Thanks for helping!

You need iPhoto 9.6.1 for use with 10.10.3.  Try the method Terence Posted in this topic to get it from the App Store:

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
Otherwise you can drag your iPhoto Library onto the Photos app icon in the Dock to covert it to a Photos library.

  • Updated to OS X 10.9.2 and now says iPhoto not compatible and all photos from My Mac have disappeared.  What's the problem and how do I get them back?

Just updated to OSX 10.9.2 at invitation of Apple, but find I now have no access to iphoto and all prior photos in my Mac are gone.  It says iphoto isn't compatible with this version.  All other prior documents, podcasts, music etc is intact.  Where are the photos?

iPhoto versions older than 9.5 are incompatible with Mavericks. Version 9 or later should be eligible for a free upgrade to the current version in the App Store. Versions older than 9 will need a paid upgrade.

  • Why is a video clip from iphoto not compatible with imovie?

i have a video clip in iphoto and when i try to add it by dragging it into the videos in imovie, it says "the file will not be imported. it is not compatible with imovie". this video clip was taken with my friend's point and shoot type camera, then put on her computer, then put on a flash drive, then put on my computer. thank you so much for any help!

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
Some "..point and shoot.." cameras create movies in an iMovie-compatible ".mov" format, but others create .avi files, or they record in the MPEG-1 format which iMovie can't unscramble.
Not all point and shoot movies are compatible with iMovie, even if they play using Apple's QuickTime movie player which iPhoto relies on.
These non-compatible movies need to be converted to .mov format, or some other compatible format such as DV or AIC, before trying to import them into iMovie. If you have QuickTime Pro, you can just open the movie clips and then use 'Export' to save them in the .mov format.
..More details from me - or others - later; I'm dashing out right now for a bite to eat..

  • IPhoto not compatible with library.

I have a two year old IMac. Everything fine till last week. Power outage caused some form of corruption in my IPhoto library.
Now, when I try to open it, I receive pop up saying: "IPhoto is unable to open this library. The library is not compatible with IPhoto."
Went on line to find answers. Most suggest building new library but I can't even do that as I cannot even access the Preferences aspect of IPhoto. Header is there but all options are in grey meaning I can't click on any options of IPhoto to begin creating new library.
    Photos are still there.
Checked Masters folder and all photos exist but no library as such.
Any help would be greatly welcome.
    Tom

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Iphoto and compatible online storage

I want to back up all of my content from iphoto in three ways:  external drive, several flash drives and online.  The first two options are easy and done, but I'm having trouble finding an online solution that will incorpoate "faces" that I've painstakingly updated, can easily be organized, and seamlessly uploads from my Mac.
Flickr seems to keep dropping photos from each download.  Photobucket limits the number of folders available (I would need at least 30 for what I have now - anticipating 2-3 additions per year moving forward).  Picassa was complicated to upload and then has been duplicating all the photos onto my hard drive, thereby eating up the few GBs I have left to operate.   Too bad because I loved Picassa on my PC ages ago.
Any suggestions out there?  I don't mind paying for it - I just mind if it's not a reasonable solution.  I have iphoto '11 (9.4.1) and a MacBook Pro that recently upgraded to OS X so that I could use icloud.

Accepting that I'll lose "faces", are there any other suggestions?  I tried SmugMug but none of the description/notes are carried with the photos.  I know there are loads of sites out there - certainly there's a preference among Mac users, or a list of those that are most compatible with Mac & iphoto, that retain most of the information???  I can keep joining and trying, but I'm up to 10 trials and am getting a little burnt out by the process.
Sadly Larry, I have a hard enough time reminding myself to use the external drive that lives on my desk.  I'm not disciplined enough to remember to update a drive kept in someone else's possession too!  I admire thouse who can do it - it simply isn't going to happen in my household.

  • Is iPhoto '11 compatible with mac OS 10.6.8?

I am interested in finding out if iphoto '11 is compatible with my 10.6.8 mac OS.
I am about to pay $14.99 for this version of iPhoto '11. Will it work for me?

    iPhoto 9.1.3 is iPhoto 11.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Is iPhoto '09 compatible with a NAS drive (non mac OS formatted)

Since I upgraded to iPhoto '09 (8.0.2) iPhoto freezes at opening (empty window with spinning wheel).
This happens with a huge (10K photos, 50GB) library on a RAID server stardom raidon SL3620-2S-LB2 under linux formatted as ext 2 and connected as a NAS (via gigabit ethernet)
The same iphoto library on the macintosh HD drive is working fine.
A small iphoto library is working fine on both the macintosh HD drive and the NAS.
    For info:
I am not a designer playing with fonts.
After I upgraded to iPhoto '09 from the DVD, it converted my library and I started to look at the animation which crashed in the middle (face recognition was running in the background).
Any attempt to restart iPhoto failed (empty window with spinning wheel).
Then I downloaded the last version of iPhoto.
I restarted from a clean copy of the iPhoto library.=>Same failure.
I try to rebuild everything (except the database which was not an option).=> same failre

With the understanding that iLife '09 is not compatible with non Mac-OS extended disc (it was almost OK with iLife'08), I have applied the following workaround solution:
1/ I have created a new virtual disk formatted as Mac-Os extended: using disk utility, new image; name=myVirtualDisc, size= more than you current file size, volume format= mac os extended, image format=sparse (faible densité in french) note: (sparsebundle was not possible / necessary for me),
2/ whenever you want to use it, you have double click on the file named myVirtualDisc. It mounts as a disc appearing on the upper part of the left pane.
3/ copy the file in the disc
4/double click on the file name the first time you use it so that iPhoto knows where it is.
    5/ enjoy
6/if latter you want to resize the maximum size, as it is a sparse image, you can do it after you have ejected the disc and using again Disk utility. Note that a sparse image only takes the place necessary on your disc (based on its content) and not as declared at the time of the creation (which is the maximum until which it can physicaly grow).
    Disclaimer
    - it worked at the first attempt but
    - I got a disk corruption which was detectable but not correctable by Disk utility. I had to create a new virtual disk and transfer the file. After that the faces were no more appearing on the corkboard, I had to delete the face databases inside the package to re-initialise the face recognition process (see separate discussion about this).
    QUESTION to experts:
is a sparse image a reliable solution? in other word was it an unlucky / uncorrelated coincidence?

  • How to uninstall old iphoto and reinstall it in old Mac Pro (new iphoto not compatible)

I can't install the new iPhoto in my Mac Pro (2006-2007 model) but my old iPhoto is not working, won't open and I can't uninstall it and install it again.
Any ideas how to do it?
    Thanks

You probably do not need to
99.9% of the time iPhoto problems are not related to the application but to the library
However we need details - not just "it doesn't work"
What version of ihoto? Of the OS? How does it not work? What exactly happens? what recently changed since it sorked?
If you do need to reinstall you reinstall from the original source

  • Is iPhoto 6 compatible with iPhoto 7 files?  Can they be synchronized?

I did a search but can't find the answer so I figured I'd check with the experts...
I have a MacBook Pro with iPhoto 6 and a new iMac with iPhoto 7 installed. All my existing photos are on the laptop, but I'd like to sync them with the iMac. What are the options?
I have ChronoSync synchronizing software, which I haven't used yet, to sync some document files. Ideally I'd like to sync the two computers and have all photos available on both, but the issue is whether I can sync the 2 different versions of iPhoto in a functional way, and if so how? It seems the iPhoto library on version 7 is not simply a folder as it is in version 6.
Otherwise, if I upgrade to iPhoto 7 on the laptop, would I then be able to do this?
    Thanks every and anyone!

    Dr. JEP
    From http://www.econtechnologies.com/site/Pages/ChronoSync/chrono_tips12.html
ChronoSync can keep iPhoto on two Macs in sync but it can not merge data together.
When you "back up" iPhoto from one computer to the other, is that backup a functional one, i.e. one that gets inserted into the iPhoto databases or whatever on that new computer, or is it something I would have to manually import into iPhoto after deleting it's existing database? How do you do it?
The back up, assuming you back up the library in it's entirety, will be completely functional. But it will NOT take account of changes in the other library, it'll just overwrite it.
You can move pics -and associated metadata between libraries using iPhoto Library Manager. But this is not automated, nor is it a back up application.
What both iPhoto and iTunes allow is Sharing Libraries - where one user can allow other Users to See (or hear) a library, but not allow the sharing person to alter the library.
The alternative is really to get a media server app - rather more expensive.

  • How to get free iWork, iPhoto on compatible devices bought after 1 Sept?

    Hi Guys,
So, I just upgraded to iOS7 and one of the things I was looking forward to was having access to the iWork and iLife apps which Apple announced would be free on newly purchased devices. I bought a 32GB 5th gen iPod touch on Sunday (15th September 2013) and activated it on the same day, but I can not find anyway to access the apps for free. When I go into the app store on iOS 7 and go to the "Apps Made by Apple" section - all of the apps are still only avaialbe to purchase at their regular prices, not for free. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    H

Same here. My dad bought a new iPod touch like yours today. It came with iOS 6 so I upgraded it but I haven't got any idea of how donloading those apps for free. Lets hope Apple gives us an answer soon...

  • I just upgraded to os 10.9.5. When I try to open iPhoto, I am told that the version I have(9.3), is not compatible with the os. But it came with it when I upgraded. What do I have to do to get an iPhoto that works with 10.9.5? TIA

I just upgraded to os 10.9.5 on my 15 " macbook pro from os 10.7.5. When I try to open iPhoto, I get the message that it is not compatible with the os. How can that be??? It came with the upgrade. It says the version of iPhoto is 9.3. How do I get an iPhoto that works with os 10.9.5? TIA

This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgradeto iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1
