Iphoto 6  & image resolutions

what format, jpeg, tiff, psd is the best when importing photos into iphoto 6 from photoshop cs? does the image size of a photo in photoshop stay the same in iphoto once its imported? where do i find the resolution for am image in iphoto? what resolution works best for a photos being placed in an ibook?
thank you

cben:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Tiff is a lossless format but extremely large. If you're coming from Photoshop first, I would use the Photoshop format as you can then add layers and do all your edits in iPhoto via Photoshop and keep essentially lossless files.
iPhoto does not change the resolution of photos although the file size changes for some reason. If you export a file from iPhoto and look at it in PS it will show a dpi of 72. But if you look at the size in inches it will be much larger than the original jpg in iPhoto. For example: 1600 x 1200 @180 dpi would be 8.88" x 6.66". After going into and out of iPhoto it would be reported by PS as 1600 x 1200 @ 72dpi but the size in inches will be 22.2" x 16.6". The total number of pixels will be the same.

  • IPhoto is changing resolution and image quality

I am currently and for the first time using iPhoto 6 to produce a book - a feature within the application. I have edited my images in Photoshop, some have not needed to be so they have simply been saved as either high-res JPGS or TIFFS. On importing them into iPhoto selected images are downsizing and stating that they are not big enough to print - this I know is not true as they are adequatley large enough for printing to A0 minimum at 300 dpi. There are also a select few that are changing in image quality - the colours are looking either bleached out or over-exposed and they have lost their original quality. When opening the exact files in Photoshop they are correctly exposed, perfect colours, sizes etc. If I am to try and 'retouch' them within iPhoto I can resume some of their quality but it seems through the transition into importing inot the application they are being corrupted.
Can anyone assist me as its driving me mad!!!
    Thanks

What is the color space of the photos in photoshop?
In iPhoto Preferences, Advanced, do you have it set to add ColorSync Profile?
BTW, the 72 ppi (pixels per inch) is irrelevant. iPhoto defaults to reporting 72 ppi because that is a typical screen resolution. What's important is the total pixel dimensions of the image, and whether that size gives you an adequate dpi (dots per inch) when printed at the designated print size. So, while the image looks great on-screen in photoshop, that doesn't mean that it will be adequate for printing in a book. But you are right - you shouldn't see a significant shift in color when importing into iPhoto.

  • Change the image resolution through iPhoto

Does anyone know how to change the image resolution through iPhoto? I know it can be done in other image editing software, but I have yet to find it as an option in iPhoto.

    Hi Rachel,
There is no option within iPhoto.

  • Iphoto says that my image resolution is to low?

Iphoto says that my image resolution is to low, but my resolution is fine at 800 x 800 at 300 dpi... is this still to low....?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Too low for what? Is this for a print, book, calendar?
The resolution iPhoto is requiring is shown in iPhoto: Minimum Picture Resolution For Ordering Quality Prints. Basically the important number is the number of pixels in the length and width, dpi aside.
    So your image is 800 x 800 pixels. A 4" x 4" picture would give you 200 dpi. For a 6 x 6" picture that would drop down to 150 dpi, etc.

  • Image resolution after cropping

When I zoom in on a 4 megapixel image the screen shows an image with acceptable resolution. If I crop to an image the size of the one showing in the unconstrained mode the image resolution drops dramatically. How can I crop and not loose so much resolution? I've been able to do much better with editing in Elements and then importing the image back into iphoto.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Even though the dpi has changed from what it came out of the camera to 72, the resolution has not changed. It's just a different way of expressing the total number of pixels and the size to be printed. It's just math.
A 1600 x 1200 image at 300 dpi will print a 1600/300" x 1200/300" print (you do the math). That same image at 72 dpi will produce a print that is 300/72 times larger. The number of pixels, 1600 x 1200 hasn't changed, just the size to be printed. iPhoto changes it to 72. I've checked files with Photoshop, imported to iPhoto, exported and rechecked and the dpi has dropped whereas the print size has increased.

  • Image resolution resizing

This may be the wrong place for such a posting, or perhaps iPhoto is the wrong applicaiton, but how can I change the image resolution to make the file size smaller? I have a 1Mb image that I need to upload to a website that has a maximum upload file size of 500kb, I don't want to crop the image and lose part of the picture, so how do I reduce the file size? Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
You can do this upon export of the file from iPhoto. Select the photo in the library and do File > Export > File Export. In the dialog box you have the option to scale image no larger than x pixels. Type in a number, and the other dimension will be automatically entered to constrain the proportions of the image. Export to your Desktop for convenience when uploading to the website. You can check the size of the export in the Finder. It may take a bit of trial and error to determine the correct pixel dimensions to get the file size that you want. After you have uploaded the export you may delete it, since iPhoto retains your file in the library.

  • Image Resolution in Crystal Report

I am facing problem in image resolution when resizing big picture in crystal report.
    Please help.

    Thanks for your reply
The issue is the pictures (e.g. employee photos) are saved in Database as BLOB data type.
The report is loading employee photo into the report (e.g. employee card), but the loaded picture is coming up with much less quality than the original.

  • Can anyone help me figure why there is a popping sound when I move from an iphoto still image to a new video clip?  The sound has been removed from the video clips and there is another soundtrack underneath it all.  Help?

My current project is like many I have created in the past.  I have removed the sound from my video clips and laid another soundtrack under the entire project.  Now, when I add an iphoto still image to the project, when it goes back into video there is a popping sound.  I've never had this happen in the past and have made many projects in the past just like this one.  Any way to troubleshoot this issue?  Thanks so much for your help.

  • How do I change the image resolution of a photo?

    Hi..,
I am the beginner in Photoshop.
I want to change one image resolution from 72 dpi to 300 dpi.
So, I search and got one pdf for change the resolution of the image. In that they mention, take the "Printscreen" of the image and paste in the photoshop and change the mode(Index - flatten) and change resolution via the "Image -> image size -> Resolution".
Like that i did, it changed correctly.
After that I Open one already saved image file in Photoshop and do that same steps but the resolution was not changed.
So, now how to change that saved image resolution to 300 dpi...??
    Regards.,
    VISWA

    Viswa,
To find the current resolution of your image, follow these steps:
With your image open in Photoshop, Image > Image Size (Like you've already done earlier).
Check the resolution as shown above. If it doesn't show 300, enter 300, hit OK and 'Save' your image.
Open the file and check again. If it still shows 72, post back with more details of the type of file you're trying to open in Photoshop and if possible, a screenshot so we can help.

  • My iMac will no longer import .jpg files.  With either iPhoto or image capture

Can someone tell me why iPhoto and Image Capture say that .jpg is no longer a supported format.  I've imported hundreds of photos from my camera before and now I can't.  I noticed this after I had placed the SD card in my Panasonic Viera TV to view the photos.  Is it possible that the TV screwed up the formating on the SD card?  I'm still able to view them on the camera, but unable to import them.

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If the problem does not repeat itself in the test library then your current library is the culprit.
If that's the case try the following: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Do you have Aperture installed? I found your model on a compatibility list; however, there was a note that it requires Aperture 2 to be installed:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
    According to this excerpt:
To see a list of digital cameras with RAW-format support that are compatible with iPhoto, visit this Aperture webpage (any camera compatible with Aperture, Apple’s advanced photo editing and management program, is compatible with iPhoto as well)
which is at the bottom of this page:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iPhoto/9.0/en/pht41627265.html
I may be wrong, but I interpret that info to mean you need Aperture 2 before iPhoto will work with RAW?

  • Continuous tone image resolution lower than specified

The following message was posted in the incorrect forum; no legitimate solution to the problem was ever posted. I am re-posting it, as this is the same exact problem I am having, right down to the OS and version of Acrobat. Could someone please explain to me what this means and whether or not I should be concerned about it? I will also get two different kinds of results... one is a single number effective ppi on this error, such as 199, (which results in 200ppi if run through PitStop), and a two-number effective ppi, which we haven't been able to decipher, such as 501.357/179.55ppi (which should be a hi-resolution image).

    > All text should export as vector, since it's all on a layer above any kind of image.
Is there any transparency in the text, though? If you float text over
an image with transparency, it MUST be exported as an image. If it is
floated over vector art with transparency, it MIGHT.
It's easy to assume that just because something is on top, it doesn't
ever need to be flattened. This is not in fact true.
    >
    >I am a little concerned: is this a flaw in the Acrobat Program?
You mean in its preflight? Unlikely, it isn't rocket science to
calculate ppi, so the numbers are probably right.
    >
    >Where is this "Continuous tone image resolution" turned on/off? Why is it important?
That's probably a reference to Distiller settings. I think we've
established that you aren't using Distiller.
    >
    >Is InDesignCS2 flattening to low transparency settings, even though my settings dictate high?
You'd probably need to ask in the InDesign forum. But bear in mind
that the flattener is free to use lower resolution if it thinks that
is all that is needed for particular effects.
Maybe you could reopen the PDF in Illustrator, and use that to select
the images in the flattened page. Might illuminate what is going on.
