Iphoto 6- Missing photos/Other photos appear small

OK. I'm new with computers and my Mac.
I have two identical film rolls in Iphoto 6.
The photos in Roll A have been replaced with
a gray box and an exclamation point. I followed
the directions to try and retrieve these photos, but the
Iphoto would not let me put these photos into Iphoto
because they are already in Iphoto?!?!?
Roll B has the same photos as Roll A, but these appear small- 360X270-
while all the other photos in my other rolls are 2816X2112.
If I can't retrieve the original photos in Roll A, can I at least
fix the photos in Roll B so they look like all my other photos?
Brian

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Iphoto 9.4 makes photos appear small

After just updating to version 9.4 I'm finding many of my photos appear quite small when I'm looking at them in the Events view. Even using the Zoom slider on the bottom left corner, they still are considerably smaller they were in previous versions. Anyone else noticing this? Is there some setting I'm missing?
    Thanks

The photos were on an iPhoto library, which had been created and used for years with no issues on an old MacBook Pro ('06).  When I moved to a new Retina machine, and plugged in the iPhoto library for the first time, I was prompted to upgrade the thumbnails for use with the Retina display.  Given the size of the library (265 GB), this ran for nearly two days.  When it was finished, and we went back to review the images, the thumbnails were all very, very small on the display.  When you look at the information pane, they have been compressed down to 40 KB or so.  When they are viewed full-screen (like on a slideshow or for image editing), they are heavily pixelated.
Images are generated on a Nikon D70.
Operating on a Retina MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.3.  We've now also upgraded to Aperture - but the images now appear the same regardless of whether you're viewing the images on Aperture or iPhoto.
To make things weirder, this issue doesn't appear to have affected all images - just most of them.  All images saved to the iPhoto library after September 2012 are unaffected (even though we bought the computer in March 2013).
    Appreciate your help.

  • IPhoto 8 missing Photo Information

When I show the Photo Information there is information missing. If the camera is put into an automatic mode (sports, portrait, landscape, ...)- the "exposure" setting shows "Not Defined". It does appear to recognize if the camera is set manually - "shutter priority". How do I get to recognize the automatic settings? Camera is a Nikon D40x.

Select your iPhoto Library in the Finder. By default the iPhoto Library is in the Pictures folder. Ctrl-click or right click the iPhoto Library. From the contextual menu that will pop up select "Show Package Contents". Are there folders "Masters" and "Old Masters"? If there is a folder "Old Masters" the upgrade of your iPhoto library has failed.
Copy both folders - Masters and Old Masters to a drive, where you have enough space. The Old Masters folder will probably contain most of your missing photos. We do not know any method right now, how to fix a library, that has been corrupted in this way. If you cannot restore from an earlier backup, since your backup drive failed,
    backup the corrupted library,
create a new, empty iPhoto library,
then try to recreate the iPhoto library by importing the photos from Old Masters into a new iPhoto library. also, import any photos from Masters.
And send feedback to Apple. This bug needs attention urgently.  http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html

  • Yosemite and iphoto upgrade missing photo library

While painfully transferring one user acount to another mac, my external hard drive died with all back-ups.  After I sucessfully and with great trevail migrated the account , I found that I had neglected to upgrade both computers to Yosemite.  When I did so, along, I believe, with iphoto, my photos all disappeared.  It opens up to the screen with the yellow sticky note.  When I try to access the library under Finder, Photos, it still opens up the to menu with the yellow sticky note, and no photos (oddly enough, the trash in iphot is filled with the many many photos that I have deleted and never gotten rid of).
    Help....

  • Photos appear small in iphone/blank space on top and bottom

After struggling to duplicate, cut and paste (because iphoto wouldn't just let me copy) 20 pictures into my iphone folder, I synced the phone and first got a bunch of black squares. I didn't panic- just re-synced it and all the pictures appeared. However, most of them have to be turned sideways to fill the screen. A few of them- ironically the ones I actually took vertically- appear just fine. I wonder if somewhere my settings are off? Please advise.
I was planning to have a one-to-one session on iphoto because I know that I'm really doing things the long and hard way. Somehow those sessions never give me any confidence. I leave more confused than ever.
Also- what does checking the "constrain" box do in iphoto when cropping? Just curious- and I didn't crop these photos so that isn't the answer I'm certain. Thank you!!!

That didn't work. And when I tested one of the photos and then reverted it back to the original, there was a black square where the picture used to be. I actually had to sync it a few times and then turn the phone off and on to have the photo back where it was. I'm assuming this is a problem that Apple is working on since the update. What a pain. But thanks anyway for trying to help.

  • IPhoto library missing photos after rebuild

I rebuilt my iphoto library as per instructions from discussion here as a repair for blank previews Now I have only 100 photos instead of 8000 what happened to my pics
When i open iphto all my albums are still there but most of them are empty and my faces are all unnamed

Did you try to rebuild with iPhoto with "Find orphans" option selected? If that doesn't work you'll have to start over with a new library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
1 - Move the existing library folder to the desktop
2 - Open the library package like this.
3 - Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
4 - Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.

  • Mailing photo - photos appear small in Mail

Sometimes when I email photos through Aperture, the photos in the mail message show up smaller than the size I am using in the mail export in Aperture.
The "Image Size" in mail is set to "Actual Size".
If I change "Image Size" to any size besides "Actual Size" and then change it back to "Actual Size", the photos show up in the mail message as the correct size.
I am not sure if this is a problem with Mail or a problem with Aperture.
    Anybody have any ideas?

  • IPhoto '08 MIssing Photos in Event

I was sorting my photos into the new event categories, making one called Wonderland and one called Niagara Falls. I had duplicated the Niagara Falls category by accident and deleted one of them. Somehow, the other one disappeared too. But, in my Wonderland event, my Niagara Falls photos are there but only flash for a moment before my eyes and then to into a dotted outline. The rest of the photos in that event are fine. When I click Edit, the Niagara Falls photos show in the bar above, but if i click on them, they don't show up englarged to be edited.
How do I get them to show up again permanently and not just as a flash as I scroll down through the event folder?? I even tried dragging them into another folder but they show up as blank there too. They exist cause I can briefly see them. Please help. Thanks.

    PoochPatrol
Events in the iPhoto Window correspond exactly with the Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library package file (Right click on it in the Pictures Folder -> Show Package Contents).
That means when you delete an Event you are deleting a folder full of images.
The flashing phenomenon is caused by cached images. They don't exist, they've been deleted.

  • Missing photos in Photos on ipad 2

I have an iPhoto library of 7500 pics stored in the shared folder on my imac so that my wife's iphone 4 and my new ipad 2 can both access them from our separate accounts. Both the devices are now running iOS5. ALL of the photos appear in iPhoto and on the iphone but there are many images that don't appear on my ipad - they just show as empty rectangles. Seven albums were totally missing. I've tried numerous things including:
I updated the ipad to the latest OS (iOS5) - the 7 albums appeared but were all empty.
I did some research then repaired and rebuilt the iphoto library - some of the missing photos appeared but some existing photos in other albums disappeared!
I dumped the ipod photo cache (in iphoto folder) - no difference.
I edited the missing images within iPhoto - This had a limited degree of success as many of the images reappeared (but not all), but I have noticed a factor that links the problem pics, they were all taken in raw on my relatively new Nikon D90. I didn't import them as raw, I converted them to jpeg in photoshop first, and they all show fine in iPhoto and the iPhone, but not the iPad!
    Ideas anyone?

I've done some more testing, and it would appear that iPhoto is at least partly to blame, I have to modify the imported images in some way in iPhoto before the ipad will recognise them, but even with these mods, they're still not all importing!

  • Iphoto Library confusion- removing duplicates - photo appears too small now

I have a massive mess in my Iphoto library so please excuse the confusion of this question but I can't simplify it any more
    1) I had many duplicate photos so I recently started deleting duplicates manually through the Iphoto window.
    2) I also have two photo libraries. I made a new library awhile back on the advice of this forum as I had Question Marks instead of pictures. I never removed the old library and now not sure what to do with it. Should I trash it?
    3) After deleting duplicates and rebuilding thumbnail cache as it prompted me, now when I look at some of the photos they appear very small in the Iphoto viewer window and others appear fully. When I try to make them bigger in the Iphoto window they become fuzzy..
    4) However, when I look at the actual files in the library in the Finder, I see I still have these photos in quadruplicate plus I have backups on other drives..
5)When I look at each copy of the same exact photo all of them appear in Preview as the same size as they do in the Iphoto library window. All except one - this one appears full screen...and very clear. The one that appears clear is actually visible in the finder menu where as the others all just have the jpeg icon...

    1) The best way to relocate the iTunes library folder is to move the entire iTunes folder with all subfolders to the new path, then press and hold down shift as start iTunes and keep holding until prompted to choose a library, then browse to the relocated folder and open the file iTunes Library.itl inside it.
If you've done something different then provide some more details about what is where and I should be able to help.
    2) Purchases on the device should automatically transfer to a Purchased on <DeviceName> playlist, but it my depend a bit on whether automatic iCloud downloads are enabled. If there is a cloudy link then the transfer might not happen. You can use File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. In iTunes you should also check out iTunes Store > Quick Links > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer.
    3) Backup the device, then immediately restore it. In some cases you need to add a restore as new device into that equation. Obbviously not to be attempted until you're sure all your media is in your library. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device should it be needed.
    4) I believe there is complimentary 1 incident 90-day support with hardware purchases, but no free software support for iTunes itself. AppleCare gets you a different level of support.

  • IPhoto Missing Photos, Unique Situation

    Hi everybody,
I am in what I believe to be (after a bit of Googling and forum searching) in a unique position with my iPhoto Library. The library in question used to be maintained without keeping copies in the actual library (by using the relevant option in iPhoto Preferences), as I like to maintain my own folder hierarchy for the actual photo file storage. However, after a hard drive upgrade and the move to iPhoto '08, I decided I'd like to change this. Before moving to '08, though, I needed a way to get all my then-aliased photos into the library itself. So, I used a program called Synk (basically a backup program) which was able to resolve all the aliases to photos elsewhere and replace them with the actual photos in my iPhoto library.
The old system and paths have since been replaced (due in no small part to a hard drive crash), and I'm now having an issue with those photos whose links no longer work. Apparently, said links weren't working during the resolution of the aliases, and so a number of broken links made their way into the new library and are now still there. And, unfortunately, those photos were stored on a drive which no longer exists, meaning anytime I try to click on one of those photos, iPhoto gives me the spinning beach ball of death for a minute or two (per photo) as it tries to connect to that drive. When it finally fails, it brings up the "Could not find this photo" dialogue box and gives me the option to find it, but to do this for all the missing links (as there are quite a few) would be extremely tedious.
So, I'm wondering what ideas people have as to go about restoring my library. I still have all (or at least most) of the missing photos in question on disk; they're just not properly linked. And I'd really like to keep all my tagging, renaming, and comment info for the photos that are there, given I've done extensive work in these areas. Thanks for any help.

    CyberMonk:
I hope you didn't use Synk on the entire library package. Because it cannot parse the database file's contents which is the heart and soul of the library. I'm afraid you may not be able to resurrect the library.
Since the links for the alias files are broken unless you can re-link each file you'll have to start over from scratch by creating a new, empty library and importing the photos again. I don't know of any application that can do that.
Do you get a warning window when double clicking on a thumbnail indicating that the original file cannot be found and asks if you'd like to find it? If so, if you can find and re-link one photo in an event it may re-link all of the photos in that event as they are all in the same folder. But you have to be able to get to that warning window.
If the above fails I strongly recommend you setup a "managed" library to prevent this type of problem again.
You could run a managed library of all your photos on the external HD and have a smaller library on the laptop for the most current and those you need. You can use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager to manage the multiple libraries and copy files via albums or event between the two while maintaining the keywords, comments and title.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
