Iphoto 6 nightmare: how do i uninstall properly?

I would greatly appreciate some help getting me out of this iphoto 6 nightmare - missing thumbnails, missing pictures, etc.
i have my pictures backed up - my hard drive is cloned on an external disk, containing my iphoto folder BEFORE i upgraded from ilife 05 to 06.
i have followed all the advice i could find in this forum and tried everything - rebuilding, creating a new library from my old pictures folder, importing, and so on. nothing changes.
i'd like to purge my system of the poisonous iphoto 6 so i can re-install iphoto 5 and drag my old pictures back in. can someone tell me the correct way to do this? i assume there are other files to trash besides the library and plist. i'm not sure what else was installed and where.
thanks!

Hi petitemarie,
To get back to iPhoto 5, you would really need a backup of the iPhoto 5 Library folder that has not been updated to version 6 in order to keep your metadata such as comments and keywords, and also all your albums, slideshows, books.
Steps:
-open iPhoto 6 and select all newly imported rolls since your iPhoto 5 to 6 conversion one at a time and File>export them to a newly created folder on the desktop. Name the folder with identifying text and a date such as 1/05/06 my birthday party
-close iPhoto
Steps:
To reinstall iPhoto 5
Drag the iPhoto Library folder in the Pictures folder to the desktop and rename it it iPhoto 6 library
Navigate to /Applications and drag iPhoto to the trash
Navigate to /Library/Receipts and drag all iPhoto receipts to the trash
Navigate to ~/Library/Preferences and drag com.apple.iPhoto.plist to the trash.
Insert your iLife 5 CD/DVD and choose to do a custom install. You will have to keep ongoing through the steps of the install before you get to the screen where you can choose a custom install.
Install iPhoto.
Run Software Update and update iPhoto to the latest version of 5
Put your backup iPhoto 5 library in the Pictures folder and launch iPhoto.
Once iPhoto is open and showing your library import the folders you exported on version 6 into the library.
Let me know how it turns out.
The version 5 iPhoto might not be integrated with the other iapps. now that they are different versions. This I do not know for sure.

  • MSN Messenger erase or how do I uninstall properly?

    Hello everyone
I wanted to install MSN Messenger original Microsoft Version. So I downloaded the compressed file, decompressed it and installed MSN Messenger. But the icon of the drive in which the compressed data was located wouldn't go away. And when I put it in the trash can and emptied it, MSN Messenger wouldn't start anymore, but display a big question mark in the icon located in the dock. So I removed this one as well. I wanted to know if there are any rests of files left on my hard drive, which should be erased. In general: How do I uninstall software from my MAC? Is there a special way to do it? And in case of MSN Messenger, do you think it was removed properly? If not, how can I do it afterwards?
    Thank you so much

    Hello,
Here is what you should have done to install it:
    Download the program.
Then, open the disk image that you received as your download.
Then, from the disk image, copy the Messenger program to your Applications folder on your hard drive.
Then, eject the disk image and if you wanted delete the downloaded file.
Then, you would have gone into the Applications folder to run your Messenger program.
What you did was run the program from the disk image rather than from your hard drive. So, naturally, when you ejected the disk image, the program was gone.
The installation method I mentioned above is the standard method of installing programs on Macintosh computers.
As for whether Messenger is a self-contained package, it is self-contained. If you delete the main program, then the whole program is gone.
All that it leaves behind is your conversation history / cache and a couple of preference files in your preferences folder that contains your user-name and password and your settings.
    These files are called:
    com.microsoft.MessengerDaemon.plist
    and
    com.microsoft.Messenger.plist
    and
    com.microsoft.AlertsDaemon.plist
    and
    Microsoft Messenger User Cache
    These files are located in:
Hard Drive --> Users --> "Your User Name" --> Library --> Preferences --> Microsoft
If you delete these files as well as the main application, then everything is gone.
    I hope this helps.

Do you have the current MacOS X version 10.10.2?
Then you can simply move iPhoto from the Applications folder to the Trash,
sign into the App Store with your own AppleID
reload the "Featured" main page of the AppStore with ⌘R,
then download iPhoto with your own AppleID.
Make a backup of your iPhoto Library, before your launch the new iPhoto the first time,
If your current system is not Yosemite, you can only buy a boxed iLife 11 version of iPhoto to install it independent of the previous owner.

Terence, I was trying a way to message you directly - jumping on a recent thread seemed to be the only way (sorry, DEW45).
Terence, you seem to be the foremost expert on apeture and iphoto and have helped me many times in the past (thanks).  I have a question that you may be able to help with (anyone also feel free to take a stab).  I use blogger to upload my photos and host my blog (www.sippingespresso.com).  I spend hours organzing and editing photos - namely, I will enhance and sometimes alter an image in Apeture.  It always saves over the orginal file (at least for viewing purposes), which is fine by me.  But then when I go to upload the photos onto blogger it seems to always pull my dull, original image.  Obviously, I want the newer, bright, enhanced photo.
I'm one step away from importing them, dragging them out of iphoto and into Photoshop, then editing the files and dragging them back into iphoto, deleting the originals and uploading from there.  There HAS to be a better way - please help!!  I've already posted far too many boring images without the beauty of Apeture's "auto enhance".
Thanks in advance, Terence or anyone else.

  • How is Garageband 08 properly uninstalled

How do you uninstall Garageband 08? I once tried to trash an earlier version of Garageband a few years ago and messed up my system.
Only iLife app I want is iPhoto, all the others are useless. How do I get rid of them?

You should be fine if you
    • Do a Spotlight search with "garageband" and drag all the files to the trash
    • Locate your Apple Loops and trash those files too.
There is no uninstaller for GB.

  • How do I uninstall iPhoto and reinstall from the APP Store? I already own it, but it will not open now.

I have the latest version of iPhoto installed, but it will not open now. An earlier error message prompted me to update to the latest version, which I have. How cna I uninstall and reinstall this APP that I aleady own?
    Thanks - David

Fixing that does not require reinstalling the iPhoto Application - it requires correct library issues
What exactly happens? What version of iPhoto do you have installed (in teh finder select it in the Applications folder and get info)?
If it iPhoto '11 version 9.5.1 then Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

  • Uninstalled iphoto by accident, how can i get it back for free?

    Hi!
I have a macbook pro from last year, got it around march. Back then i installed all the apps you get with macbook, imovie, garageband and iphoto. I tried iPhoto, but was completely lost and i just thought that i might as well just delete the app if i don't use it, so i did. Now, that one of my friends have a macbook and use iPhoto i understand how the whole thing works, so i would like to get it back. Only problem, how? I go to app store and purchases, but it's not on the list, imovie and garageband are there though. Now i search for iPhoto in the searchbar, and it says that i need to pay for the app. So my question is, how do i get iPhoto back?
    Thanks!

The app may be hidden at the App Store

tells you hpw to unhide them.

  • How do I uninstall FCP X Trial (I want to purchase and re-install "properly")?

I installed the FCP X Trial app and have decided to purchase and go forward with FCP X, but have some questions:
I see from the Apple FCP installation best practices document (HT4722) that it's not advisable to install along with Studio (instructions I did not follow in my hasty installation the Trial version) and I know Larry Jordan has some alternative views on FCP X installation which sound good to me, so I think I'd really like to carefully remove (unistall) the Trial version without damaging my current Studio installation (which I want to retain). I will then proceed with a carful installation fo the purchased X apps (and have not yet completely decided on which path I will take with that.
    So how do I uninstall?
And does anyone here have any thoughts on the best way to install X given that:
    1. I will continue using both X and Studio (but of course won't run them at the same time). I simply cannot divorce myself from Studio completely, but want to start using X in certain projects that are conducive to it.
    2. I do NOT wish to do any partitioning (hate partitions).
    Thanks!
    -Dave

Unlike the old FCP 7 there is no mystery about uninstalling FCP X.
Simply drag the application to the trash and delete it.
To install FCP X and FCS on the same disk (and partition) read the last 2 sections of this Apple Fact Sheet. (You didn't read far enough through it).
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4722
Which method you use depends on which item you wish to have put in its own folder.
    Both methods work perfectly.
Just to avoid any misunderstanding these are the titles of the 2 pertinent sections:-
Install Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5, or Compressor 4 on the same disk as Final Cut Studio (2009)
Restore the Final Cut Studio (2009) applications to their original location

Adobe Creative Cloud (Desktop) does not work properly. The application is blocked : it could not be launch neither stopped. I'm on MAC Yosemite OS, does anyone know how to remove it properly or to force its stop. It does not appear in the launched applications.

I received no error message. The application was just trying to find applications unsuccessfully.
I am using MAC OS 10.10.1
I tried to uninstall the application  but it seems that a kind of deamon is still installed thus providing me to reinstall properly. Do you know where are the elements to remove in order to get my machine just like before ?
Otherwise I would have to reinstall everything and this would be a pain.
    Thanks for your help.

  • How do i uninstall gfx card status fix?

I had a problem with GoToMeeting and they told me to install the gfxcardstatus fix.
In the end the problem was because of another issue since I did fix but I also do not have more than one grafix card and so when my macbook pro boots up it tells me that "gfxcardstatus is only for those with dual cards".
How do I uninstall the fix or program so it does not run on start-up?

If you've opened your library with the newer version of iPhoto you won't be able to open it with the older version,  What version are you currently using? If it's iPhoto 9.0 or 9.1 update it to 9.4.3.
Then here are a couple of things you can do to repair you library:
    #1 - Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder:
    User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
    #2- Do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

How do I uninstall or reinstall itunes when the itunes.mls file is missing and won't do either without it? Have done a search for the file extension on PC and two external hard drives. Doesn't show up.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • How Do You Uninstall Certain iLife Components?

When installing iLife, I only wanted to install the upgrade for iTunes and iPhoto. I didn't see the customize button and ended up installing all of the iLife components. How do I uninstall the components that I don't want?
    Thanks.
    Power Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

The simple way is drag the application to the Trash and empty it. The parts shouldn't be an issue.
Or... Yank it. I have NOT used Yank.

  • I uninstalled Lync 2010 and it still launches. How do I uninstall it?

This is a weird one I know but I need to uninstall Lync 2010 on several laptops.
My process has been to uninstall it from add/remove programs. It seems to uninstall properly. Note that I think it is a click to run version of Lync.
However, on a reboot the program is still there and will launch. It no longer has a reference in Add/remove programs.
How can I uninstall it properly?

    Hi,
Please check if Lync 2010 folder is still exist, if exist please delete manually.
Please also delete information about Lync 2010 (Communicator) in Registry Editor HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Please also check if Lync 2010 software set to Startup, if set please disable it.
