Iphoto 6 photos not showing at all

I have been using Iphoto 6 for a while now and after I updated the software, most of my pictures show up as grey boxes with an exclamation mark on them. How do i see my pictures?? When I double click on the pictures that are actually seen, they pop up as grey boxes once again.
Please help!

The ! or ? turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
The most common cause of this is User Activity in the iPhoto Library Folder in the Finder.
Have you altered, moved or renamed anything in the iPhoto Library Folder?
If you haven't, then try rebuilding the database. Hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose the top three options.
If that fails:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • IPhoto is not showing photos that i have saved on an external drive. I can see tht the photos are on the drive, but iPhoto is not showing them. Help!!

Iphoto is not showing the photos that I know are stored on the external drive. I can see that there is 45 Gig of photos stored on the drive as they appear in finder when looked for, but I cannot see them in iPhoto.
I have used the external drive as the default location for my iPhoto library and not had this problem before.
I had a message earlier about generating thumbnails. I also had iMovie running this morning. This is when the problem began.
Have tried restarting computer and all the obvious things.
    Also tried rebuilding the library.
    Please help!

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.

  • IPhoto does not show photos in my iPhone

    Hi!
As the title has said, my iPhoto does not show photos from my iPhone, but it DOES recognize that iPhone is connected.
But before all of this happened, I changed my setting (which I forgot how to reset that) to NOT open iPhoto automatically when my phone is connected.
And also, a week ago, my iPhone usb cable seems to be spoiled at one end. It can still connect the phone to the laptop, but very loosely - as if some wires inside are broken.
So I really do not know if the problem I mentioned is caused by my setting OR is it because of my spoiled cable (that it could not transfer the photos from the phone)
And if it is believed that it is caused by my setting, could you please guide me on how to re-set the whole thing?
    Thank you very much.
Ps. I can still sync my songs in itunes to my music in iPhone.

"But before all of this happened, I changed my setting (which I forgot how to reset that) to NOT open iPhoto automatically when my phone is connected."
    Launch iPhtoto.
    In the menu, iPhoto>Preferences>General.
    Change it back.

  • Photos albums from iphoto will not show in iweb media section

    Hello
I have 2 issues. Photo albums that I created in Iphoto will not show in the Iweb media section. Also, all of the photos from half the Photo pages go missing after I update and republish to my site. They still show on the site but the photos are not longer showing in Iweb and have to be added back to the photo pages.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try the following:
    1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
    4 - reboot.
5 - launch iWeb and try again.

Do you get this window when you hold down the Command+Option keys and launch iPhoto?
If not then you're not holding down both keys long enough.

  • IPhoto is not showing photos stored in albums in the last week, and when I add recent photos, they don't show, or show as black.

iPhoto is not showing photos stored in albums in the last week, and when I add recent photos, they don't show, or show as black. What's happening ?  I show an incompatible upgrade available for OSX Maveriks, which I have not yet installed.

What version of iPhoto are you using?  Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Please help!! I got my iPhone 4s screen fixed, now in my Photos it shows nothing, although in my memory usage it shows 10.5gb of photos, thats 2000  photos not showing up. What happened?! Where did all my photos go?!

I got my iPhone 4s screen fixed, now in my Photos it shows nothing, although in my memory usage it shows 10.5gb of photos, thats 2000  photos not showing up. What happened?! Where did all my photos go?!

WOOHOO!!! i finaly fixed the problem. Here is what to do:
Chances are if you did the same thing as me you either have
    A) No album names at all for ALL your songs in your library
    or
    B) Have the same name for every album for ALL your songs in your library.
Here is how to fix it (yah it will take a little work but its worth getting your iPod functioning properly).
Unless you dont want to have to go and actualy set al lthe album names for every song here is what you can do:
Go through to iTunes and arange your songs by Artist name. Click the top song for your first artist, hold Shift and click the last song for that same artist (to multi select all the songs for the artist) go into get info and check the Album box. Copy the name of the artist to the Album box and hit ok.
Now when u update your ipod and go into ur Artists section the actual Artist name should show up instead of the song names.
For some reason having the same album name for all your songs messes up the organization of the iPod.
Hope this helps anyone else that is having the same problem

  • Iphoto is not showing that i have no photos

iphoto is not showing that i have no photos, but when i look at the file size of the iPhoto library in finder it says its 86gb... how do i get these photos back into my library neatly?

I am using iPhoto version 9.6
I imported some photos last night and a couple messages popped up basically saying iPhoto needed to restart (i don't remember exactly what they said). So i restarted and when i opened up iPhoto again there was a single photo displaying, basically like i had just started using the app. iPhoto just tells me how to 'get started' when i open it now.

  • IPhone photos not showing up in photostream folder???

Earlier today i took a couple of photos which went into the photo stream folder and showed up in iPhoto on my macbook air the way they were supposed. Then this afternoon i tok a few more and now the photos keep going into the camera roll folder and don't synch. I don't recall changing anything. Any ideas? How do i get them to go into the photo stream folder again?

    Greetings Eric,
To ensure the images do indeed have the GPS data embedded, drag one to the desktop and open it with Preview by double-clicking. Go to Tools > Show Inspector.
Click the More Info button, and then click GPS.
If there is no GPS option then this image has no GPS data embedded.
If it does have GPS data but iPhoto does not show the picture in Places (I'm assuming you already have images in iPhoto that DO Show up in Places), try reseting iPhoto to it's factory default state.
Remove the following to the trash and restart the computer and try again:
Home > Library > Caches (I remove the whole folder. It will be re-generated upon restart.)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iPhoto (There will may be more than one. Remove them all.)
If you still don't see the pictures in Places, try creating a new iPhoto Library and adding one of the pictures. Hold down option and launch iPhoto and click create new to make a new library.
If the pictures show up in Places fine in the new library then there is something wrong with your original library.
Use the option key to switch back to your original library and then follow http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638 to rebuild your library. Check off the bottom 3 rebuild options.
    Hope that helps.

  • IPhone photos not showing up in places

I recently upgraded to iOS4. I OK'd the camera to store the GPS tag from where the photo was taken. When I pull it up in the photo library, it gives the correct location of the photos I have taken, so I know it's working.
...But it's not showing up in places, in iPhoto 09! It's as if the location data isn't transferring along with the photos when I import into iPhoto.
    Any ideas?

  • Slideshow: why do certain photos not show?

slideshow: why do certain photos not show; they are properly referenced
Let me expand on this: I have 570 photos in a slide show and all are properly referenced in my library. In the slideshow window, I can see all the pics in the bottom box and when I run "preview slideshow", certain pictures don't appear in the top box whilst the curser moves across the picture in the bottom box. Likewise, if I run the full screen slideshow, that picture(s) does not appear (I have a blank screen); the next picture does show up, howerver... This happens with several dozen pictures, always the same, randomnley amongst the 570...

Hello Tony and thank you. I regenerated and rebuilt thumbnails; I deleted the slide show and rebuilt it; nothing works. Now, I noticed something weird. All pictures are in an Aperture project and are properly referenced as I said; all the pictures in this project come from a old iPhoto project where some of the pictures are in a "Modified" folder, others in an "Original" project; it is all the pictures in the "Original" project that don't show up in the slide show.... Do you have any idea what I should do?

  • Iphoto photos not opening get black exclamation mark

iphoto photos not opening get black exclamation mark when open thumbnails

Not sure what you meant by "missing till" but all of the photos and movies are there. I concluded that searching for several photos by their file name and then opening them with Preview.
I'm pretty certain that I only used the Picasa desktop app to test using the Picasa web service for some family photos. I don't think I used it to edit any photos in the iPhoto library but I suppose it's possible that I did without really thinking about it.
Why to I have tiffs?  - As far as I know I don't. They are all jpg or mov files. I can't imagine why that error dialog said I was missing a tiff.
I just noticed based upon your suggestion to review the package contents. I have folders for Modified and Originals which I've seen before. But I also have folders for Photos - Modified and Photos - Original. I haven't seen those last two before. Moreover, all but 6 of my latest photos are in those last two folders. iPhoto can show me their thumbnails but can't open them. iPhoto can open the 6 photos in the "Original" folder. I didn't notice that before because they represent a very small portion of my library and I didn't select the right photos.
iPhoto Library Manager could see only those 6 photos in the Original folder. There are none in "Modified". So iPLM obviously can't see the photos in Photos - Modified or in Photos - Original. Looking at the Info for these two folders, I see they were created on January 7, well more than a month before I downloaded Picasa. Somehow all but 6 of my photos got moved to these new folders. I must have done something to cause this but I have no clue what.
Sorry this is so long but usually details are important. Do you recommend that I use the Merge Libraries function in iPLM?
    Thanks!

  • IPhoto 11 not showing files shared on facebook

My iPhoto 11 is sporadically showing which photos are also being shared on Facebook when I view by Events/Photos.
I've particularly noticed this happens when I upload photos from the same Event during different sessions-- in the second session, sometimes I end up duplicating uploads because iPhoto is not showing in the info pane that they are already being shared.
I can view which photos I'm sharing under the web source album, and I can see that there are duplicates. I have double checked under the Events by clicking on photos I know darn well I've uploaded because I'm looking right at them ON Facebook- some twice now!- and it still does not show they are sharing.
I only have one unique version of these pics in iPhoto, so I know I'm not uploading copies of the same images. I've updated all of my software to the most recent versions. I've restarted the computer. I can't think of any other reason why it's not showing sharing info.
    What is the issue?

Opps error i use iPhoto 9 not 11.

Every thing came preinstalled.  it is the top of the range system with 16 Gb of rRAM, 2 Tb hard drive to top graphics card etc.  I used to be on Windows PC.  Have more than 27,000 photos on the system.  Much apprecite your reply and interest in this.
