IPhoto 6 Slideshows: "Show Titles" not as nice as iDVD 6

I was thrilled in iDVD 6 when the slideshows had a new option to display both titles and comments. They display in the lower middle of the image in a semi-transparent box. Even better, if there is no text in the title or comment, the box doesn't display (so if you don't want anything to appear over 1 or more images, just remove the comments/title). Very slick!
This is a great feature and I am sorely disappointed to find out that iPhoto 6 doesn't have the same feature. As in iPhoto 5, it just displays the title way off in the corner, where it gets clipped off on your TV.

I take a lot of pictures with 2-3 digital cameras (as a hobby). I use my old 400MHz G4 TiBook as my picture bank when I travel. I got very frustrated when I realized that the screen resolution is set to 800*600 when you do a slideshow in iPhoto, and there is no way to change that.
This is especially bothering when the pictures are taken with my DSLR, but looking at pictures from a 5 MB camera on a 0,5 MB resolution screen is a drag in any case.
I think that I have found a solution to this, however. It would be nice if someone else could try to verify my results. Very simple:
- Close iPhoto and get a plist editor (I used PlistEdit Pro which I found in Macupdate).
- With the editor, open the iPhoto preferences file: /Users/Your_Userame/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist
- There's a property called SlideshowFixedScreenRes close close to the end of the file. Change it's value from NO to YES and save the plist file. Relaunch iPhoto.
This worked very well with the TiBook. Your mileage may vary, though. If you find that it works for you, please let the others know.
If this preference property really is the legitimate place for setting this, it makes me wonder why Apple is so arrogant that they don't give us a switch somewhere for this.
NOTE: If you try this the risk is yours. I don't think that the risk in this case is very severe however - if you throw the iPhoto plist file in the Trash it will be rebuilt when you relaunch iPhoto.
Best regards, Jukka

  • Iphoto slideshow photo titles lost in idvd6

I am creating a dvd project using iphoto slideshows.
When I play the slideshows in idvd6 the photo titles are missing except for the first and last photo in each slideshow.

    Hi, Léonie,
The titles were not the original file names, I have very diligently given all of my photos "proper" titles (so the file names are typically IMG_xxxxx). I have double-checked a number of the affected photos, and the "proper" title shows up fine i iPhoto. For the 75% of the rest of the library, the titles were carried over to Photos (and show when I choose the title metadata to be displayed).
I look at the thread with the automator workflow, and it seems that would have worked nicely if my titles also were file names... When that is not the case, I might have some days work ahead of my copying and pasting manually?

  • FM10 Book to PDF - show title (not PDF filename) in Reader header?

    FrameMaker 10.0.2.419 + Distiller X Pro 10.1.438 -> Adobe Reader X
I have a FM book file with a title along the lines of 'Worked Examples'. When I save it to PDF with Distiller and view the PDF in Adobe Reader X, the reader's header bar shows the PDF filename e.g. wex.pdf, but I want it to show the book title Worked Examples.
I assume there's a setting in Distiller that forces Reader to show the book title not the file name, but having trawled through the settings/help/forums I can't see it. It's probably blindingly obvious (when you know the answer!), but can anyone tell me how I can get Reader to show a book's title in its header?

Note: I have partially solved this issue by loading the PDF into Acrobat X Pro and going to File > Properties, and on the Doc Properties > Initial View tab selecting 'Show = Document Title', and then saving the PDF. I'm hoping to figure out (or get told!) a way of achieving this from my FM10 book file though.

  • Why are my Spry Image Slideshow slide titles not appearing sometimes?

I inserted a Spry Image Slideshow with Filmstrip Basic widget using 3 photos to try it out. It is working fine except for the slide titles. The slide titles appear in Firefox and in Opera, but not in Safari. Haven't tried it in IE browsers yet.
Any idea why the titles are not showing up all of the time?
    Thanks.

All working OK here. All thumbnails and fullsize images appear OK.

  • IPhoto Slideshow images will not burn to DVD -- Green Screen

I'm trying to burn a slideshow I created in iPhoto '09 to a DVD using iDVD '09. The first few time I've done this, everything burns properly, including the DVD menu. When I select the "play" button to play the slideshow, the music that I originally entered plays correctly; however, the screen is completely green and none of the images appear.
Slideshow has 136 pictures and three songs from my iTunes library. The menu in iDVD has no music and only one pictures, using a previously loaded theme from the default options. I am burning the slideshow to 16:9 ratio, NTSC, best performance.
I have tried creating using the autoplay upon dvd insert option, which still did not work. Same green screen with slideshow music playing. I am currently trying to export the slideshow as quicktime movie then adding that to the project.
    PLEASE help. Any ideas appreciated.

I did search apple's KB again but that's the only article I could find on Green Screen so I posted it to the forum for reference purposes only....
Sorry it failed to help. I'll ask around for other suggestions and if anything comes up I'll post back.
DRM is certainly a possibility as suggested above even though I've not seen it attached/related to an issue of this nature (lines yes, but rarely the entire screen).

  • IPhoto slideshow music does not transfer correctly to Apple TV

When I set up a slideshow on my iMac and add music it plays correctly on the computer.
If I select the same slideshow on the Apple TV the photos display correctly but the music played is not the same as the track selected on the computer.
The only way I can play music with the slideshow on the ATV is to select the track required on the ATV.
I was under the impression that any slideshow set up on the computer would automatically transfer to the ATV and would remain intact for subsequent selection and viewing, is this not right?
    Any advice wouyld be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I never bothered delving into the why's and wherefore's of why it did this, but have assumed it is something to do with the transitions and how the differing frame rates on the mac and tv are reflected in the time scale of photo slide shows. I suppose what I'm saying is that's it possibly isn't the easiest thing to fix.

  • IPhoto Slideshow music is not heard on Airplay device

I have created a Slideshow in iPhoto and selected the Ken Burns template.  When I play the slideshow on the MBPro, the sound is heard on the laptop.  When I select Airplay for my AppleTV device and try to play it, there is no sound on either the MBPro or the AppleTV device.  The AppleTV device is connected to my receiver using an HDMI cable, and I have HDMI selected as the audio source on it.
Any ideas on how to get this to work?

Do you have restrictions set in Settings?

  • Problem partly solved: iPhoto slide shows on iPod

I have had my iPod 60 GB for a couple of days now and was first a bit shocked that iPhoto slide shows are not visible and displayable on the iPod, since I'd like to show my iPhotos thru the iPod on a TV set.
This is all the more non-understandable since slide shows are only small control files in the end that control order, duration, transitions etc. of slides that are physically there on the iPod already.
Since I want pictures to be displayed on an iPod slide show in a particular order (the one I arranged in iPhoto) I tried different things (after not having found a solution in various forums) and, voila, here is a solution:
Just put the images you want to include in the iPod slide show into an iPhoto album (not into a slide show; iPhoto albums are shown on the iPod, while iPhoto slide shows aren't). Then rearrange the order of the pics within the iPhoto album to your heart's content via drag and drop. This at least works in iPhoto 6, don't know whether this applies to earlier versions.
Finally, sync the iPod via iTunes, and you'll find your album with the correct order of pics on the iPod, playable of course as an iPod slide show.
So, I still don't see my older iPhoto slides shows, which is a pity, but at least for now and the future (until Apple provides an upgrade to iPhoto and/or iPod, HELLO, APPLE, someone awake??) it works for me.
I hope this helps some of you who were as desperate as I was...
    Cheers Jochen

The timing is probably not ignored but it is likely that transitions are applied differently on the tv and may take a different length of time to occur. Still the effect is the same and unfortunately it's not too pretty. Which is why I chose to stick with simply syncing photos and not slideshows a long time ago.

  • Sharing iPhoto slideshow using iDVD

After spending a painstaking amount of time, getting everything just perfect in my iPhoto slideshow, then using Sharing to export to iDVD, my sound and slideshow no longer line up.The slideshow now ends and the song gets cut off. I have even tried adding extra time to my slideshow and make other adjustments, but having to export takes time and I need it to end up the way I made it. This is only a 57 image, one song (4:08 min), slideshow. It goes off without a hitch in iPhoto. I have adjusted every frame for effects (no prepackaged iPhoto stuff) and duration. Any help here would be appreciated.

Eventually, I want to integrate my .jpg pictures with music ( assume MP3) together to be seen and heard on a server. Is there a way I can accomlish this?
Have not tried to do that.
In iPhoto 6 there is a thing called Photocast. That might work. I don't use iPhoto, so I'm not much help there. You should visit the iPhoto 6 group.
but I can not create a successful DVD to distribute to famiy members. What am I doing wrong?
Apparently you are doing something wrong. I do that all the time.

DURIM - Okay.  I would expect the "Cache Warning" message because your default directories would not be the same as the ones in the settings file I generated.
If you go back to the "7.0" directory and open the "Logs" folder, can you copy the "Audition Log.txt" file and send it as an attachment to [email protected]?  We'll take a look in that logfile and see if it gives us more information about why this is failing now.
Also, do you have any other Adobe applications installed on this machine, such as Premiere Pro?  If so, do they launch as expected or fail as well?
I do have the trial Pro version of Adobe reader, but I have not activated it, because I fear the same thing will happen did it. I cannot afford to activate the subscription for that product and take the chance of it not working either. I depend on those two programs religiously. Here is the files that you requested. • Dispalying photo titles in iPhoto slideshows on Apple TV

Hi - I have created a slideshow in iPhoto and selected 'show titles' in the slideshow settings. The titles display fine when I run the slideshow from within iPhoto but fail to show when synced to and played through Apple TV (software version 2.3). Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance

Seems like even more have this problem, and that it is attributable to 2.4:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2056738&tstart=15
Seems extraordinary that an Apple software "upgrade" turns out to be a downgrade and that customers aren't warned before accepting it. Perhaps there's a good reason for this which Apple will reveal in due course, but in the meantime, for customers who want their slideshow music, why can't Apple allow a rewind to 2.3 or an earlier upgrade, to a position somewhere between what's available from the factory reset and 2.4?
It would seem that Apple TV's functionality has declined as a result of 2.4 and that the product is no longer as good as it was. In fact, every Apple TV with earlier software would seem to work better than the current model. Apple seems to have gone backwards with 2.4, not forwards. Does anyone know if the folks at Apple care, or read these forums?

  • IPhoto Slideshow to iDVD, then dvd to television: titles cut off.

    iPhoto '08(7.1.5) and iDVD '08(7.0.4)
Created a slideshow in iPhoto using 16:9 format. Exported to iDVD and set dvd to 16:9 format and burned the dvd. The slideshow shows fine on the computer, and the dvd preview also looks fine. When taking the dvd to the television, both a widescreen HD tv and a standard 4:3 tv, the dvd distorts the pictures and the titles on the upper left are cut off. Any suggestions on how to resolve this?
    Thanks
    Kelly

    Kelly:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I believe you can get the entire slideshow image into the TV Safe area this way:
1 - go to your User/Movies folder and locate the slideshow QT file that iPhoto saved there during the export to iDVD.
2 - open iDVD and, using the "+" button create a slideshow.
3 - drag the QT movie file from the Movies folderinto the slideshow window.
4 - go to the iDVD/Slideshow preference pane and check the "Always scale slides to TV safe area" checkbox.
5 - go to the main menu and delete the movie that was added directly by iPhoto.
This will scale the movie to the TV safe area and keep the titles in the viewable area.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.
