Iphoto 6 stopped importing video

I have been using iphoto for years with my canon powershot. Suddenly, iphoto is refusing to import a video. I tried taking a still shot so I was importing two items. The photo imports and the video seems to hang the process somewhere. I've tried it on my macbook and my desktop at the office. Same deal. Could there be something wrong with the video itself? If so, what? Is there any other way to get it out of my camera and onto my computer? this is the first I have taken video for work purposes so not being able to use it is not just sentimental.
Thanks for any insights you can offer.

1 - iPhoto seems to not be crazy about large videos - I suspect this one is longer than the previous ones you have worked with.
2 - You can move it from your camera to the desktop using image capture (in your applications folder) and import it to iPhoto (or wherever you want it) from there

iPhoto won't import video from a Samsung HZ15W digital camera. What's the easiest way to get the video imported. Also, didn't prior versions of iPhoto accept this format?

As you don't mention the version of iPhoto, I can only guess that you've been caught in the gap between Apple and Samsung. Somethign changed with iPhoto 11 and it's quite rigid about how timecode is handled in video and there's something not quite standard in the Samsung timecode. Google around a bit for more.
And, as Larry say, try iMovie

  • On iphoto my stop import is not working and the force quit does not work either

please help - the stop import and force quit on iphoto both not working. thx!

This happened to me today on the iPad; I put in the password 4 or 5 times. I began to think my account had been hacked. I tried again on my iPhone and it worked first time. Then I tried again on the iPad and same thing—worked first time. Maybe just a temporary glitch in the server?

  • IPhoto does not import video from iPhone 4

We've been battling this problem for a while now. We have two iPhone 4's and any time we import photos to iPhoto, we have to select photos individually, making sure to NOT select any videos taken with the iPhone 4, in order to get them to import to iPhoto. If there is a video in the set, all photos after that are reported as unrecognized format and won't import. We can then select those photos that didn't import and reimport them and it works. Importing videos, either single videos or groups, or when mixed in with photos just doesn't work. Every time it fails with the unrecognized format error. We are able to import directly from a flip video camera, or if we first transfer the videos from the iphone to the hard drive using a different utility, but when we then import those files into iPhoto, they come in, but without the usual thumbnail image (they show up in the library as black).
This problem has been going on since iPhoto 09. We bought the 11 upgrade hoping it would fix this problem. It made it a little better (we used to not be able to import anything from the phones), but it still doesn't work for video. If it were just one of the phones I'd say it was the phone, but both phones have the problem. We've been seeing this problem for many months now.

Believe me, we've tried it all. Resetting, restarting, reinstalling, clearing preferences, caches, resetting databases, removing all photos off the iPhone and starting from zero. I've read probably 15 different threads on the subject and tried at least as many solutions. In a few instances the problem got better...for 1 sync. Then it cropped up again. I tried syncing to a fresh iPhoto database, and the problem came back for that one as well. I'm really hoping that Apple is working on a solution for this. We've put a lot of effort into our iPhoto archives and the main reason we bought the iPhone's was for the camera (even suffering through AT&T's questionable coverage for it). It doesn't seem like we are the only ones having this trouble.

  • How to stop imported video from looping?

I imported a very short video clip to my timeline. I want it to play only once. Then the last frame of the video should stay visible and static, as a background. And I want to start my animation then; after the video plays once. How do I achieve this? Right now, when I export as SWF, only video plays and loops. It doesn't even show anything after that's on the timeline after the video...
    Thanks

there's no enough info to justify a tutorial.
    click insert>new symbol>movieclip>ok.  click file>import>import video>tick on your computer>click browse>navigate to your flv>click ok>tick embed flv in swf and timeline>next>next>finish.
add a layer to the timeline that contains your video and, add a keyframe to the last frame of the layer and, in the actions panel, add: stop()
after creating a movieclip (eg, flv_mc) with your video on the movieclip's timeline, drag the movieclip (flv_mc) from the library panel to your main timeline.

  • IPhoto will not import video clips from iPhoto

I plugged in my iPhone to my computer.  I opened iPhoto to import the photos from my camera role.  It imported the photos just fine up said "The following files could not be imported.  The file is in an unrecognized format."  It is all the video files I took with my iPhone.  Never had this problem before.  I recently switched macs from my desktop to a new iMac.  I was having problems with iphoto not liking the video I previously had in iPhoto.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few videos into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • IPhoto won't import videos from digital camera or s4

Up until now, I had been able to import videos from both. Now iPhoto won't even ask me to import videos. It just imports the photos.

Do the cameras have the option to record in AVCHD? If so is that what you're recording?  What version of iPhoto are you using?

  • Iphoto doesnt stop importing photo

So when i trying to press the "X" botton, Its says that  "Photos are being imported to the photo library. Please wait for import to complete." So i wait, but it took too long to complete so i try to shut down my computer but then it say to quit iphoto then i try to quit but its keeps saying "Photos are being imported to the photo library. Please wait for import to complete." so i can not quit iphoto and could not shut down my computer. How can i stop importing the photo and quit iphoto?

  • Adobe premiere stopped importing video

I haven't used my Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 for several months. I used it the other day to capture video and then when I tried to import it into a new project it I saw no indication that it actually did it. The screen format seems to look different too with only one monitor to view the video and not two. Nothing shows up on the left side bar with the imported video although it seems to go through the action of importing without any notices coming up to say that it isn't working. Has anyone had this happen or know how to resolve the issue? I have some projects I really need to edit and I can't get it working. Thanks so much!

You need to create a sequence; the Timeline panel is what hold a sequence, but it's not the sequence itself. Create a new sequence by going to File > New > Sequence and choosing a preset that matches your footage, or by dragging one of your footage items to the New Item button at the bottom of the Project Panel. That process will create a new sequence that matches your footage parameters and will drop the clip into it; you can add other clips and edit as you like then.

  • Iphoto isn't importing video's from my iphone 3GS

I've taken pictures and recorded videos on my iphone. When I connect it to my imac G5 running Leopard, iphoto opens up as expected and I'm able to import the contents of my phone. However, only the pictures get imported, not the videos. I'm thinking maybe I have an older version of iphoto (version 4.0.3) that doesn't recognise videos, or I read somewhere that it might be something to do with the fact I'd previously been using an ipod touch and my computer is confusing the two and not looking for videos.
    Over to you.

I found a way to get video's in my Camera Roll on the iPhone 3GS. my phone is NOT jailbreaked !
First i installed the app on my mac called, Disk Aid
(make sure you have latest version so it works with OS 3.0.1 or later)
this app makes it possible to enter your iPhone trough USB.
(you can browse only Media Folder or Disk Aid Folder)
when it does, go to Media Folder>DCIM , the place all your Camera photo's and video's are stored.
now you only have to drag your photo's or video's to that place. Make sure you have them named the same as the other photo's in that map. example: IMG_0009.JPG for video: IMG_0034.MOV
for a video make sure you have them converted right!
(QuickTime Pro or other 3rd party software)
    codecs: H.264, AAC
    colorprofile: SD (6-1-6)
    That's all, have fun!

  • IMovie stopped importing video - Why?

I started importing from a Sony VCR mini DV camera using a FireWire 800/400 Cable 9/4 as recommended by Apple staff.
It started importing a video (worked just fine) but stopped when I plugged the camera into a mains supply (probably should've plugged it in beforehand, I know). Now it won't recognise the film on the tape at all despite closing down, unplugging the camera, restarting my iMac.......
What am I doing wrong please?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Your camera may not work with your Mac, contrary to what the store employee said. but don't take my word for it. Instead, contact Sony to see whether you can get help from them. Good Luck!

  • IPhoto won't import videos from iPhone 6 Plus

I'm trying to import the videos from my iPhone 6 Plus into iPhoto (9.6.1). iPhoto acts like it's about to import but it gets to the end and says it can't import the videos from the iPhone because they are in an unrecognized format (.MOV)
I've never had an issue in the past, any suggestions on how to fix this?
I'm using a brand new iMac with Yosemite (10.10.2) and iPhone 6 Plus.
    Thanks!

  • Iphoto won't import video from Canon S5 IS

I bought a new Canon S5 IS camera and took some great pictures and video. The photos will import into iPhoto just fine. The videos imported fine at first (I have a few from the first time I used the camera) but now the videos won't import. In fact, I left the camera on all night "importing" but in the morning the imports had not happened and I had to force quit iPhoto to disengage the process. Is this an iPhoto issue or a Canon issue? Has anyone had this experience as well?

iPhoto does not like importing BIG movies from cameras - use image capture to move them to the desktop and then import them into iPhoto - that works better - go figure

  • IPhoto stalls out importing videos only - doesn't make it to "finish import"

Problem for the last 6 months - pretty sure when I upgraded to Mavericks.  Tried everything as I am a bit of a problem solver with this kind of thing but I can no longer try.
    My system:
    MacPro Early 2009
2x2.66 Ghz Quad Core Intel Xeon
    16GB RAM
    MacOS 10.9.4
    iPhoto 9.5.1
    all current.
It started about 6-8 months ago when I tried importing a batch of photos and it did the spinning wheel of death somewhere in the middle.  other days, it wouldn't do it at all.  I finally figured out that it was stalling out on video imports only.  These are videos taken only from my iPhone 5 running current software (always current).  So upon isolating the issue - commanding the iPhoto to import a sample 11 second video - iPhoto imports the video - then immediately stalls before it makes it to "finishing import" - it looks like this with a spinning wheel of death for eternity until I force quit.
Upon re-opening of the program, I get the following prompt.
If I say yes, then it goes through that whole process again and I have to force quit.  If I say no - I get the following prompt.
If I open that folder - there is the movie file in its entirety and it plays fully and completely if I open it in QT player.  No problems at all.
So then I decided to try importing a video from SOMEONE ELSE'S iPhone 5 to see if it was my PHONE that was the problem.  But the same thing happened.  Then I tried using someone else's computer using the exact same software but it is a MacBook Pro.  And this worked no problem - so my phone is able to have photos imported into iPhoto, but it's not on my computer.
I rebuilt the iPhoto library using the command+option on opening.  I repaired permissions on the MacHD.  I tossed the preference files in the /Library/Preferences for iPhoto.  I restarted, rebuilt and retried.
Nothing works.  I created a new iPhoto library on an external drive in the hopes that maybe my iPhoto Library had become corrupted. Still didn't want to import.
Image Capture brings all things in but keeps them isolated from iPhoto so not the best scenario since I want to keep all of them in folders on iPhoto.
    Nothing seems to work.
Can anyone think of anything that I have NOT tried, and/or anything I can do to get my videos from my iPhone into iPhoto?  I know its not the ideal software program anymore, but I would like to be able to at the very least have them as part of the library so that I can get them off my phone in case something were to happen with my phone!
    Thanks in advance...
    Tim

    Try reinstall then.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
