IPhoto 6 to iPhoto 5 transfer

I am trying to move my iPhoto library from a G5 using iPhoto 6 to a G3 using iPhoto 5. The two computers are connected via Firewire. I followed the Apple directions to export and then import by first creating an empty folder on the G5 as the export target. When that didn't work, I created an empty folder on the G3 as the target folder; that didn't work either. In the first instance (receiving folder located on G5), after about 200 photos of 3500 had moved to the newly created folder, the process stopped, and I got a error message saying: "Unable to create /Users/computername/Desktop/folder name." In the second instance (receiving folder located on G3) the error message read: "Unable to create: "/Volumes/harddrive/folder." So, what should I do now that Apple's advice doesn't work? Upgrading the G3 to a G4 at this time is not feasible. Thanks.

magisterpat:
Since you're going from V6 just copy the Originals folder from your V6 library to your G3 desktop. Then make sure the ownership and permissions on that folder and it's contents are correct by the following: download and run BatChmod on the Originals folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Now all you have to do is drag each folder inside the Originals folder into the open window of your V5 iPHoto library. That should get them all into your G3 library.
Do you Twango?

Sure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac.  You should be able to set a password for it. Save it.  Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer,  I suppose,  back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity.  As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro
you should be able to sync your phone on your new MacBook Pro. Don't know if you can move the older backups yet-maybe try someone else, anyways,
This handy article from Apple explains how
How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support''
don't forget to de-authorize your iMac if you don't want to play purchased stuff there
and re-authorize your new macBook Pro
time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine  and go for it.  You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups  of your stuff.

  • IPhoto to iPhoto transfer (direct)

I have a G4 laptop and would like to transfer some picture folders from my G5 to it directly from iPhoto to iPhoto. I know I can do it through Finder etc. but would like to know if there is a more elegant method as described. The two machines are obviously connected through a radio router so no probs there. Thanks.

Why not make the changes on the Home Computer, then copy the iPhoto Library Folder from the Home computer to the laptop? Then Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder on the laptop using the settings found here:

    By all means get iLife but just for the record you don't HAVE to use Apple's photo application;
there are many more around, quite a lot of them free.

For managing audio and video contents of the iPod and iPhone you can find some lighter and faster alternatives to iTunes. An overview of some iPod managers can be found here: [IPod/iPhone/iPad To Computer Transfer & Backup Software Reviews|http://iphoneipodipadreviews.blogspot.com/2010/12/ipodiphoneipad-transf er-backup-software.html]

Do you have one of those newer Macs which require a special update? From other posts, it seems there are now three different OS versions/updates - each one of specific Macs.
I'd call Apple and give them your serial number as well as - important - your build number (click on the Apple and About this Mac; under Mac OS X, click on the numbers until you get to build .......)
Here are two that might be for your model:

You probably have to run one or all of the IPHOTO resets/repairs over your library.   Its in IPHOTO help which keys you have to hold down while opening IPHOTO.
    Sorry don't remember which keys.

  • Help!  I have an iMac 24" OSX version 10.6.8 my iphoto is having problems.  It will not open properly.  All I get is the little wheel going around and around.  My iphoto is iphoto'11 version 9.2.3(629.52)  What should I do to make it work properly?

Help!   I have an iMac 24" OSX version 10.6.8.  My iphoto is having problems.  It will not open properly.  All I get is the little wheel going around and around.  My iphoto is:  iphoto'11 version 9.2.3(629.52).  What do I need to do to remedy this?  I recently installed InstallMac.  I don't want this on my computer.  I don't know how to get it off.  I'm afraid that is what scrogged my iphoto.  Can anyone tell me how to correct this situation?

    Re: iPhoto:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Can I delete iPhoto amd iPhoto library once Photos is in place

Can I delete iPhoto amd iPhoto library once Photos is in place, or iPhoto is still useful.

    Yes -  but don't.
Wait until Photos matures.  Both libraries will live side by side.  As will the apps. You can still open your iPhoto library with iPhoto.

  • Scrolling down album list in iPhoto causes iPhoto crash

Scrolling down to bottom of the album list in the sidebar in iPhoto causes iPhoto to lock-up with the spinning ball or crash altogether, any suggestions?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Iphoto '11 iphoto keeps quitting since I install '11.

Since installing iphoto '11 iphoto keeps quitting.   It is extremely slow and the spinning disc appears every time I want to edit a photo or give it a title.  What is the reason for this?    Would it be possible to go back to iphoto '09?

Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

The iPhoto application should be in your applications folder
If you have removed it and your computer came with restore disks then you will need them to reinstall. Or you can purchase a version on DVD or from the App Store. Apple my be able to reace missing restore disks for a nominal charge

Updated MacBook air to 10.10.3. Can I remove iPhoto and iPhoto Library now or I should better wait until migration process will handle the question?

Yes, I've done it some minutes ago.
I have backup of all my info on external drive and in Google Drive. Just what I want - delete unnecessary data from my small MacBook Air drive.

  • Delete iPhoto Album/iPhoto Library

In my home Picture Folder I have
    A's iphoto Album
    iPhoto Library
    iPhoto Library_2
    The third being the (default)
I know that is in the other two and have no use for them.
Can I safely delete the other two?

I have no idea what "an iphoto Album" is
If you have multiple iPhoto libraries and you are SURE that you do not want one or more of them you cna simply drag the one you are SURE you do not want to the trash - probably a good idea to test iPhoto prior to emptying the trash to avoid human errors
