IPhoto 8.0.4 buggy

Dear All
cannot print anymore borderless with canon iP4600 since updating to 8.0.4
in preview everything looks fine but when printing there is a white line on the right site and the pictue is increased!
Does anybody have the same problem?
What can I do? And how can I downgrade to 8.0.3?
Thank you fir your help!

See my answer to your previous post. I don’t think the problem is with your app, I would suspect your Library - and downgrading the app won’t fix that.

  • IPhoto (old-- version 8?) won't import photos from iPhone 5. Very buggy.

I have an old version of iPhoto that is very buggy (we have an 06 iMac, to be replaced next month). Admittedly, when I've been prompted to rebuild the cache, I don't (what does that do, anyway?). Lately, my problems have been: 1) Certain photos from my iPhone 5 continually re-import even though I check "Don't import duplicates." 2) Most concerning, photos from the past three months on my iPhone won't import to iPhoto. I get an ominous error message after iPhoto takes about an hour to go through the import process. On occassion, random photos (1 or 2) will import. Sometimes an image from a video (but not the actual video). My photos are trapped on my phone, currently not backed up. I have 1000+ photos on my iPhone, as I am sentimental and paranoid and don't want to delete them. Also--our photos are on an external hard drive. We also use TimeMachine and back up on a remote server through a service. I could live with losing everything on my Mac...but not my photos. The over 10K photos are painstackingly organized by folder and albums. Help me!!!

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download IPhoto Library Manager 4 for OS XC 10.6.8 and iPhoto  8.1.2 and later  or iPhoto Library Manager 3 (for OS X 10.5.8 and iPhoto 7.1.5 and earlier) and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu (iPLM 3) or Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu (iPLM 4) option.
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPhoto '11 refusing to detect ANY new faces in imported photos

I've been using iPhoto forever.  It's always "just worked."  I just got back from vacation and imported all of my photos.  After deleting half of them and doing only some very minor "tweaks" (adjusting levels, etc.) to a few of them, I wanted to name the faces.
I noticed that iPhoto didn't identify a single face in the 150 or so just-imported pics.
Also, the button to manually add a face is grayed out!
Tried "Detect Missing Faces" but it does nothing.
Any ideas?  Anybody seen this before?  This is a new one to me and I did browse the Discussions and haven't seen this one.
Thanks in advance for your help.

iPhoto 11 seems extremely buggy. I think I'm going to downgrade back to the prior version. Anyone have suggestions before I take this action?
Not really - have you upgraded to version 9.1.1?
    Problems:
    1) When ever I import new photos they no longer show up in new events or the "photos" grouping of all photos. They did get imported though and I can access them by selecting "last 12 months".
This can be a sort issue - they are there but not where you expect - look at the view menu ==> sore events
    2) If I manually try and split an existing event and all photos in the new event disappear from all listings.
How do you "manually" split an event?

  • IPhoto + Spotlight + Finder: Importing and Exporting

IPhoto has been really buggy for me lately (even after I recreated my iPhoto library from scratch), so I like to export from iPhoto frequently to the Finder for manual storage.
Lately, I've wanted to add keywords to all of my photos with people and place information. Just as a test, I exported a few photos to the finder (by dragging from iPhoto to the desktop) and found that it doesn't do what I intended with the keywords established in iPhoto. Instead of retaining the iPhoto keywords in the "Spotlight comments" it strips them off completely! Also, if I create any spotlight comments in the finder, iPhoto does not import them as keywords! Maybe I'm expecting too much, but I thought this would be a cool integration.
Question: Is there any way to retain keywords on my photos when copying between iPhoto and the finder?

    Colin:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. iPhoto doesn't strip the keywords from the photos because the keywords are kept in a db file in iPhoto and are not physically added to the image file. The image management application that can do that is one that I use, iView MediaPro. You can sync a number of meta data fields back to the file with it so when you open those files with another application that can read those files they are there.
When you use iView to catalog an iPhoto Library folder it creates keyword fields in the catalog file for those keywords and assigns them, in the catalog only at that time, to those photos. It also creates "Catalog Sets" of albums. Then you can select all photos with one keyword and sync that keyword back to the original file. You can use both applications on the iPhoto Library folder but only with great care because if you make a mistake you'll trash the library for iPhoto.
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

  • IPhoto event titles collapsed to one title

I was preparing to email some photos, opened a blank email, went back to iphoto & saw that suddenly my many event titles that had been there a minute ago & that organize nearly 3,000 photos with very specific, very important titles have all disappeared leaving one event title.
I have hundreds of pages of photographed journals & letters that will take days to reorganize. I don't have Time Machine.  iphoto has never been buggy before. Was it a recent update? Is there anyway of getting this information back? I'm devastated (not to mention really, really ******).
    Please help!

Tried to run that batch chmod app that everyone is suggesting for permission problems but it didn't help. Does anyone know which meta file records events and the all photos listing so I could examine it for whats wrong?

  • My iMac crashes using iPhoto, the database constantly needs repair, and upgrading software patches causes the screen to hang

I am not sure what is going on.  I have kept current with all upgrades and now when I attempt upgrades my system will hang on the white screen, forcing me to turn the machine off and on.
iPhoto has been really buggy (latest version) - keeps telling me that I need to repair my photos.  Last night I was working on a photo book and it crashed twice.
Once it rebooted the iMac, the second time while uploading the book it crashed iPhoto.
Since this is past apple care - I am not sure what to do.  I am in the US and I can't find any information on pricing for a visit to the genius bar.
The only thing I have going on with this machine is two seperate user accounts that access a shared iPhoto and Music library on the shared portion of the HD.
    Thanks for any help.

Back up all data, then follow the instructions in the support article linked below:
iPhoto '11: If you see a message that iPhoto can’t access one or more photo files
If you still have problems, try the other options in the "First Aid" dialog.

  • Restoring keywords that were deleted when moving from iPhoto to Aperture

I recently migrated from iPhoto to Aperture, and this apparently involves losing a TON of metadata. One new discovery I've made is that for my older photos (i.e., ones added and edited a few years ago when I was using an earlier version of iPhoto), the keywords have been deleted.
More specifically, if I have a photo and it has keyword X, then TWO copies appear in the Aperture library:
    - the original image, with the keyword "iPhoto original" AND the keyword X
    - the modified image, with only the keyword "iPhoto external edited"
(Note that I have not used any external editors; this is just how iPhoto seems to interpret images that were edited with older versions of iPhoto)
    This is definitely buggy behavior.
This means that if I have a "best-of" keyword and I make a "Smart" album, it gets filled with original, unedited versions of my "best of" photos.
Is there any way to fix this without going one-by-one through THOUSANDS of older photos and manually copying the keywords from the original to the modified?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Hope we get an answer - I'm in the same situation as you, though I just went from iPhoto to A2.x on an older G5 tower. I've been debating whether to take the time to go through them, reorganize "better" than they were under iPhoto or wait for a more elegant solution...

  • After iphoto 9.1.5. problem with editing photos

After I did the 9.1.5. update I have a problem with editing photo's. My photo's are about 35mb a piece.. they are panoramic photo's. Editing used to work perfect in iphoto 8.. after I went to iphoto 9 it became buggy.. (it crashes on certain photo's that 8 could handle without a problem).. but I learned to live with it. Now I did the 9.1.5. update and I can edit maybe 2 or 3 pics without a problem.. then when I get to number 4 Iphoto will show me a black screen.
If I close iphoto and start it again, I can continue where I left off.. untill I get to a picture that seems to ruin the party.. and then I have to restart again..
Iphoto 8 used to work so smooth with panoramic photo's.. dont know where it went wrong..

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Low quality print warning

Several of my photos I want to use in my book show the yellow triangle with !.
I am warned that the photos will print at a low resolution and or print quality. When I printed the same photos on my epson R1800 the images are sharp, clear and high quality. What am I missing here? the images are jpgs about 1000x1100/500kb in size. Sequential photos taken within a minute of each other either have the alert or they do not, is iphoto 6.0.6 buggy?
Photos imported from pictures folder>photoshop elements folder get the same alert. the photos have several layers.

Actually, the warning in books is triggered at 180 dpi. For prints the trigger point appears to be 140 dpi. You can see them in the iPhoto preference file if you use an application like Pref Setter.
The book is printed at 300 dpi and Apple figures 180 or below is suspect for acceptable print quality so the warning.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How can I change slideshow speed?

A friend of mine send me a Quicktime movie with a slideshow of several pictures with a Ken Burns effect and with a background music. What had impressed me is that the transitions between the pictures were faster or slower if the music was slower or faster at that particular time. He said that the software (Windows by the way) could do this automatically. Wow!
Is there a Mac software that can do this or my friend is not telling the whole story?
I know that in iphoto this is probably a dream

Right now the sync to audio in iPhoto is a little buggy and I wouldn't use it. As far as syncing to the tempo of the music, I don't know of any but that doesn't mean there aren't any. Go to VersionTracker.com and do a search for slideshow. You'll get a lot of hits and may find what you need in there.

  • Adding pictures to contacts in mountain lion

I'm having issues getting picture to contacts in mountain lion. Any help?

Same here. It seems like I can add only the standard OS X avatars, or any "Faces" I've tagged of the person in iPhoto. I can't just pick a jpeg as my image. The iPhoto Faces option would be less aggravating if manually adding/editing a Face in iPhoto wasn't so buggy.

  • IPhoto '09 buggy?

From my perspective this is the most buggy release of this software to date.
Hopefully someone can shed some light on the main problem I need to get resolved. In prior versions of iPhoto I've been able to burn a CD or DVD to transfer photos to another computer. Doing it this way retained all the pertinent info relating to the photos including the original versions of images, albums, etc. Now when I try this there are a variety of problems on importing:
    1. Albums do not import (the photos and events do, but not albums I've put them in).
    2. The original versions do not import (I can't revert to original)
    3. Movie files do not import (only a JPEG image of the first frame does).
    4. Movie files come in with bogus date and time stamps.
    5. A few images will not open properly after import (they are black). I can "fix" this by opening them in Photoshop and re-saving them.
1 & 2 are the killers (especially #2). I can work around the rest. Here is what I know so far. I believe the info is on the burned discs, but it's just not getting imported. When I compare the size of the burned disc to the size of just adding up all the photos it is much larger, which tells me the originals are there.
And here is the most interesting part - this behavior only seems to occur on things which were originally imported and manipulated in iPhoto 09. I can still burn and pull over albums. etc. from iPhoto 09 as long as they originated in a prior version.
I am using v8.02 (I keep all my software current)

    Mike:
The iPhoto Library Manager 3.5b which also copies Faces and Places when copying album/events between libraries can be downloaded here. I've run it on some test libraries and it does include the Faces and Places metadata.
NOTE: The link will automatically download and place the application in your User/Downloads folder.

  • IPhoto 08 buggy on iMac G5?

I have just installed iPhoto 08 on my iMac G5. I installed it 'over' the previous installation of iPhoto 6.
What happens is this: I open a photo, experiment with some edits using the Adjust palette sliders, then zoom in by using the slider at the bottom right of the screen. At this point, the beachball starts to spin.
Either the screen takes a long time to refresh (ie very slow response) OR the beachball will spin and spin and spin, with no other option than to Force Quit.
I checked out the Activity Monitor whilst the iPhoto 08 app was hanging and the processor was running flat out.
I have an iMac G5 1.9mhz processor and 1GB of RAM. Photoshop CS3 runs like a dream on this machine, as does iPhoto 6.
Today at the Apple Store I tried out one of the new iMacs, running the very same commands on a high res image, then zoomed in, and was very fast, it could handle the same commands with absolutely no lags, no delays. iPhoto 08 runs very well on the latest machines.
Could it be that my iMac G5 is just too low spec to run iPhoto 08, or could there be a bug in the program? It seems to happen particularly when applying the sharpening and noise reduction commands, and then zooming in afterwards.
I'm also concerned that my iPhoto Library will no longer be readable if I go back to iPhoto 6, there was a warning when I first started the app for the first time that the library would no longer be readable by earlier versions of iPhoto.

For me the latest update has make linking to iTunes for a slideshow an excruciatingly slow operation, sometimes up to 1 minute. This is on a G5. All the other aspects of iPhoto are working for me. It's a direct result of the iLife 08 updater. Going back to iPhoto 7.0.1 or 2 does not speed it up so the problem seems to be outside iPhoto.
    Do you Twango?

  • IPhoto quite buggy

Okay so I've been doing some intense iPhoto work (well, not really)... I just have about 800 pictures that I've been adding faces to, finding them on maps, and organizing them into events (I transferred these from an old Mac so they weren't organized at all). It was working fine for a while... but after a period of time when I tried to split photos from events to make them into their own event... the event wouldn't appear in the list (it was as if I deleted the photos... they were nowhere to be found) so I just control-Z'd it to bring the event back to a whole. So I closed iPhoto via force quit since when I clicked the red "x" it didn't quit... rebooted the application, and then fortunately I was able to edit fine and split events. However, upon closing it again... the app froze (well, the app still worked I think but the red yellow and green bubbles were frozen) and so I had to force quit it again.
So my questions are: do I need to worry that I've lost or may lose some photos?
Is iPhoto '09 unreliable and should I do something about it? I don't like that I've had to force quit it
twice in a row and that it simply stopped working over time

This seems to be a bug in iPhoto 8.0.4 that is triggering some kind of corruption to iPhoto libraries that can't be corrected via the usual rebuilds, etc. See the thread "Iphoto won't delete photos properly and then can only force quit to exit" for additional detail.
Right now the only immediate solution is to do a manual import of your Originals into a new library (or use one of the shareware/freeware tools that will essentially do that for you)...but in doing this you will lose all of your Albums, Faces , etc, so depending on how much of that kind of metadata you have in your library, that could be an extremely drastic step for you.
Personally, I'm holding out a bit to see what Apple comes up with, because doing all the Faces and Albums over again would be a Very Big Deal for me....there's hours and hours of work there that I'd rather not lose except as a last resort.
