IPhoto 8.1.2 freezes when preference pane is selected in OS 10.6.8

First I had a crash of iphoto I think due to me using random photos as my screen saver and something got corrupted.......and then I finally rebuilt database from auto backup... Yay! that brought back my 5000 photos and metadata... I went to the preference pane and the beachball keeps spinning until I force quit... I tried repairing permissions , tossing out the plist for ilife 09 (it wouldnt run until I put it back) .... Any suggestions...... this is my mac mini 2.4 GHZ with 4 gigs of ram running 10.6.8 (snow leopard)

Hi I had the same problem and I just talked to a iPhoto specialist at Apple support.
The problem was because I logged onto mobile me in my case.
Go to Left top apple mark and select Systme preference - MobileMe and see if you sign in MobileMe.
If so, please sign out from MobileMe and re-open iPhoto and try preference.
According to the specialist, iPhoto tries to connect to MobileMe which is not in use anymore.
I hope this will fix yours too!

  • I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion and my signatures for my Mail is not showing up. I have the signatures inthe preference panes and selected for the email address, but when I make a new message, the signature shows as none and doesn't give me a choice

I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion and my signatures for my Mail are not showing up. I have the signatures inthe preference panes and selected for the email address, but when I make a new message, the signature shows as none and doesn't give me a choice. Yesterday, the signatures were stacking instead of switching to the one I wanted to choose.

I had this and fixed it.
I had upgraded to Mountain Lion and my signatures in Mail were fine. But then about a week later, I got a new computer and used Migration Assistant to copy my stuff to the new machine. Upon opening Mail, I had all the correct Signature information in the Preferences>Signatures window, but nothing worked.
After lots of hunting, I found the Signature Folder. It's in:
    Yourusername>Library>Mail>V2>MailData>Signatures
Looking at my previous setup (which works) I saw in that folder two types of files: .webarchive and .siganture
Looking in my new machine's Signature folder, I saw only the .webarchive folders, not the .signature folders
Since this was literally a clone of my previous setup to a new machine, here's what I did:
    1. Quit Mail
    2. In Problem machine, go to
    Yourusername>Library>Mail>V2>MailData>Signatures
    3. Move the Signatures folder someplace safe, but out of the MailData folder
    4. Get the Signatures Folder from the working install (like a backup) and copy it to the MailData folder on the problematic machine
    5. Start Mail on the problem machine
This worked for me. I don't know why Migration Assistant didn't copy the full signature folder, but this fixed it. It worked perfectly partly because I had just backed up with Carbon Copy Cloner and the very next day set up the new machine. I don't know where Lion or earlier versions of mail stored signatures, but the absence of the .signature filetype seems to be the problem.
    Hope this helps

  • IPhoto 7.1.5 freeze when importing photos

    After iPhoto '08 7.1.5 (378) update,
photo import freezes just after displaying thumbnails and pushing "Import" button, when "Import preparation" is displayed.
Same try with new libraries, also with a second user, also after various reboots and with preference panes additional software limitations.
The previous release was OK on my PPC G4 mac.
Any user with the same trouble ?
    TIA

    Tkx Terence,
but it doesn't comes from the hardware.
I don't proceed to time machine backup of Application folder. Only datas + system. And I'm wrong, because I can't restore iPhoto 7.1.4 with a simple restore operation !
    The update has done 2 simultaneous changes : iPhoto_715.pkg + RAWCameraUpdate.pkg
I've downloaded iphoto_714.pkg (it was already in my receipts), but it's not possible to re-instal it :
1/ message : "iphoto release in place is newer than 7.1.4" when I don't remove iPhoto from application folder.
2/ message : "iphoto cannot be found" when I remove both iphoto_715.pkg from receipts and iphoto application from application folder.
iPhoto was installed on my dual processor mac when i got it, but it was 10.1.1 OS release ! you can imagine the installation process !!!
That's a bad experience, i will backup application folder with Time machine in the future.
    - Anyone knows how to re-install iPhoto 7.1.4 ?

  • IPhoto 7.0.1 freezes when trying to start a slideshow

I have a rather frustrating experience with iPhoto. Everytime I try to click the start slideshow play button (bottom left) the whole iPhoto freezes and I have to force quit it. In order to be able to open iPhoto again I have to repair permissions first, otherwise it says that my photo library is locked.
I tried rebuilding the library, but it didn't help.
Funny thing is, that slideshow plays fine when I acces it via the combiantion Create Slideshow (optional button, which you can reach through the view menu and toolbars submenu) and then hit play slideshow button in the create slideshow view. I could bring iPhoto to freeze agian via the music button in this create slideshow view though.
So what I did next is rebuild the iTunes library. It didn't help as well. I don't know what else to do.
One last test I did was trying slideshow as a different user. And guess what? Logged in as another user slideshow played fine. This user account has a different photo library and no music at all.

First try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, from your User/Library/Preferences folder. If that doesn't help, try the following:
    Trouble Shooting Preferences
Go to HD/Users/Your_name/Library. Move the Preferences folder (in its entirety) to the Desktop and make a second copy of it so you have Copy A and B. Now try the the process again and determine if problem is fixed.
If the problem IS fixed, then go to the new Prefs folder that the OS will have created and open it up.
Open Copy B on the Desktop and select all of the items inside. Drag them into the open new library folder. When the Copy window comes up check the Apply to All check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here. That will keep the new files created and bring back all of the others.
If the problem is NOT fixed, trash the new Prefs folder and move the intact Copy A folder back to the Library folder .
Sometimes it could be another application's preference file.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto freezes when Preferences/Accounts selected

I am using iPhoto '11, ver. 9.2 (626) with OSX 10.7.4.  I used iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild my Library and everything seems to be working just great except when I select Preferences - Accounts.  When the screen displays, it highlights MobileMe and shows "iDisk Usage" and the twirling rainbow wheel starts.  I have to force quit to get out.  I know MobileMe is no longer available but how do I get into Preferences to remove the account?
    Attached is screen shot:

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it doesn't then it's your current library that's the culprit.
If that's the case  make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPhoto '08 (7.1)  Freezes when Clicking "Music" Icon for Slideshow

When I try to add music to a slideshow, iPhoto freezes up when clicking the Music icon. How to make it work again (it worked fine before the upgrade).

    Monique:
It actually not frozen, just as slow as molassas on an iceberg. It's a result of this last update, iLife Support 8.1. It may take up to 30 seconds but the slideshow pane will eventually open and you can set your options.
Be sure to report this at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html. The more reports on this subject the more likely they will get a fix out quickly.
A similar slowness is in accessing the preferences in iPhoto for many.
• IPhoto 8.1.1 "freezes" when adding comments

When I click on information of a photo and input the location and then add a comment, then I click "DONE", iPhoto "freezes" and I watch the bouncing ball. I must force quit.
Please give me a good positive solution.
    Thanks.

Hard to know if this is a "good positive solution" as I've not seen your problem mentioned before. So here's a good but uncertain one. You'll just have to try it out and see.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD

  • IPhoto 11 opens but freezes as soon as I select photos; reinstalled no change

iPhoto 11 (9.1.5) started freezing. The appln opens, all seems OK. When I select photos or categories: events, last import etc. I reinstalled with no change.

backup your iPhoto library and depress the option and command keys and launch iPhoto - repair the library - if that does not fix it do it again and rebuild

  • Captivate v5 Freezes when Pick Color tool selected

When I click on the Pick Color tool Captivate v5 (eLearning suite edition) freezes and locks up my computer.  Task manager won't even start so I can't stop Captivate running.  End up having to hard boot the computer.  Is anyone else seeing this problem?  Any potential solution?

Maybe something has corrupted. Try the normal work flows:
    1. Clear cache and check if that helps
    2. Refresh Preferences, you can use the batch file in Utils under the installation folder; this will delete all customisation however.

  • Itunes 12  freezes when I try to select apps section on a device

    I'm using itunes 12.1.2.27 on windows 7.
When I connect my iPhone 6 plus or iPad Air, both running IOS 8.3.
And try to select the apps section on the device, itunes invariably Freezes and I have to stop it via the task manager.
This also happened in the previous version of itunes 12, so rather than updating to 12.1.2.27, I uninstalled itunes and then installed a fresh download form the apple site. This made no difference.
    Anyone else getting this?\
    Thanks,
                       Zivan

    Hi Zivan,
As I understand it, iTunes is becoming unresponsive immediately after selecting the Apps on the device when it is plugged in.  To help resolve this issue I'd like you to please follow the directions in the article below.

  • Motion 5 Freezes When Any Filter Is Selected

    Hi there,
I recently purchased Motion 5 (running Motion 5.0.1) and everytime I select a filter or try to open a project that uses a filter the program freezes, getting stuck on the spinning beachball.  It freeze is repeatable 100% of the time by simply clicking on a "filter" in the library list.  Generators and particle emitters run perfectly, the issue is only with "filters" and "image units".  I am running it on a 6 core Mac Pro with 17GB of RAM, a Radeon 4870 video card, and two displays.  The computer is on 10.7.2.  I have been running FCP X and it has not been crashing or hanging (but I haven't used it too heavily for any real work).  This computer has had FCS 2 and FCS 3 installed on it.  I have not had any other applications misbehaving so I don't believe it is a RAM issue.  Please see the DiagnosticReports log for the freeze below.  I am including only the Motion portition.  Any help would be amazing and hugely helpful!

First of all, make sure it's in the root level of the Applications folder.
Second, I'd get rid of FCS2 for sure.
I'd first run Disk Utility and "repair" all drives.
Verify ALL of the drives on your system have at least 15% of their capacity as free space.
Use the free "Preference Manager" from Digital Rebellion to safely and properly trash yoru Motion 5 pref files.
Worse comes to worse, drag Motion 5 to the Trash, launch the App Store, go to the Purchased tab, cilck "Install" next to Motion 5.

  • Ipod freezes when music catergory is selected. Help!

I just purchased a 160gb ipod classic and other than the fact that it took forever to sync, everything seemed fine. Videos work fine but everytime I try to access my music menu the ipod resets itself. I have a Dell computer with Windows XP pro and have tried all the normal resetting, restarting, etc. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Noone?
    Really ...
    Adobe? ... Anyone else? ... what a forum ...
Workaround is to create the slideshow in LR, export to mp4 and then add music in iMovie .. is this how professional wirkfows need to be done?
I wonder if I'll ever buy LR6 or enter the CC cloud, this has to work as it is a running system ...
