iPhoto 8.1.2 quits when importing. It only imports 1 photo at a time. Every time I try to import more photos, it quits.
I tried deleting com.apple.iPhoto.plist
I tried repairing disk permissions
I tried creating a new account, and it quits there also

what to do when my iphoto keeps quitting when importing?

What versions of iPhoto and the system are you running. As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

When importing from an iPhone (and i think a digital camera) iPhoto imports say 10 photos but it puts 20 into iPhoto - i.e. it duplicates every photo it imports
It never used to do this and i can't see anywhere in preferences where there is a setting to import photos and double them up ?
When we import some 100 photos and we get 200 into iPhoto its a real pain to have to go through them and delete the duplicates

If you're shooting HDR photos with your iPhone and don't want double imports turn off the Keep Normal Photo under Settings ➙ Photos & Camera on your iPhone:
Frankly, I'd keep the normal photo. It might be far better than the HDR version, if the camera was not perfectly stabilised or the target moved. Usually it requires the large screen on the Mac to be able to compare the normal photo to the HDR version, to be able to see, if the HDR version is passable.

FCP quits when importing pics

Doing a project with lots of yearbook pics, and about half the time FCP "unexpectedly quits" when importing these pics. They're regular jpegs, no noticeable pattern, so I now transfer pics to desktop and do it from there. Best way is to set all material in media as a few of you told me, but I'm too far into this project and it's almost done. Any ideas as to why FCP quits would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure all your jpegs are RGB and not CMYK.

I'm trying to trouble shoot a client issue and telling them to upgrade is not an option.

Try the press quality setting. It should work.
And suggesting that they upgrade is certainly option you should present them with. If they don’t want to, that’s another issue all together.

IPhoto unexpectedly quits when importing from camera

iPhoto is working fine but when I try to import photos from my camera, iPhoto quits and a box appears asking if I want to close or retry. I've retried, put new batteries in the camera, tried reading the card through my HP PSC 2355, and did a restart on the computer. I've had this camera for a year and a half and have never had this problem before. Any ideas anyone?

Iphoto 9.4.2 quitting when pressing info - next steps?

After uploading a batch of new photos, I pressed the info button for one of the photos and iphoto quit unexpectedly. I have 25,000 photos in my iphoto library.
I tried the following:
1) Repairing permission and database using the 'first aid' function.
After trying this, the problem was worse ie iphoto now quitting - a second or two after opening.
2) Created a second iphoto library - that worked fine using iphoto.
3) Opening my photos Aperture. Also worked fine.
4) Rebuilding the library using the 'first aid' function - this improved the situation. iphoto no longer quits on opening BUT it is still quitting when I press the info button - so back to square 1!
Ideally I would like to merge my iphoto library with my Aperture library - but don't want to make matters worse by merging a dodgy library with a good one. I would rather repair the iphoto library first if possible.
I have backed up onto an external drive.
Any suggestions for next steps would be appreciated.

iPhoto '11, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

IPhoto 6.0.4 Quits When I Try to Empty iPhoto Trash

iPhoto quits when I try to empty the iPhoto trash. When I reopen iPhoto, the items are still in the trash.
1.42 GHz,G4 iBook Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Try the following:
1 - make a backup copy of your iPhoto Library folder
2 - do some edit on the bad photo.
3 - go to the Modified folder in the iPhoto Library folder and find the new modified file.
4 - copy that file to the desktop.
5 - locate the original file in the Originals folder and replace it with the new file from the desktop.
6 - now see if you can delete that file via iPhoto.
If that doesn't work, try deleting the original, modified and data (thumbnail) version of that file. Then rebuild the library by launching iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
You'll always have the backup version in case these "fixes" mess things up even more.

Applications quites when importing photo's

I've recently had to do a re install but am running iPhoto 4.0.3. When I try and import my photo library into the application from the browser I get the message iPhoto has unexpectedly shut down. Any ideas?

Rename the iPhoto Library folder by adding or dropping a character (it's in your Pictures folder). Then launch iPhoto and see if it will let you create a new photo library. Report back if it works and we can go from there to salvage your old photos.

IPhoto 7.1.5 freeze when importing photos

After iPhoto '08 7.1.5 (378) update,
photo import freezes just after displaying thumbnails and pushing "Import" button, when "Import preparation" is displayed.
Same try with new libraries, also with a second user, also after various reboots and with preference panes additional software limitations.
The previous release was OK on my PPC G4 mac.
Any user with the same trouble ?

I don't proceed to time machine backup of Application folder. Only datas + system. And I'm wrong, because I can't restore iPhoto 7.1.4 with a simple restore operation !
The update has done 2 simultaneous changes : iPhoto_715.pkg + RAWCameraUpdate.pkg
I've downloaded iphoto_714.pkg (it was already in my receipts), but it's not possible to re-instal it :
1/ message : "iphoto release in place is newer than 7.1.4" when I don't remove iPhoto from application folder.
2/ message : "iphoto cannot be found" when I remove both iphoto_715.pkg from receipts and iphoto application from application folder.
iPhoto was installed on my dual processor mac when i got it, but it was 10.1.1 OS release ! you can imagine the installation process !!!
That's a bad experience, i will backup application folder with Time machine in the future.

DVD Studio Pro Quits when importing Photoshop files. HELP!!!

often when importing PS layered files DSP quits without any warning.
and it does it with the same files, some are ok, others make DSP quit. So the problem should be in the files...
I'm going crazy, since I don't undertand where the problem come from, any help?
(I use DVD SP 3.0.2)

I create a new PS file, and then paste one by one all levels from the original (buggy) one; then import in DSP the new one and everything is fine!

IPhoto unexpectedly quits when importing photos

I have iPhoto 1.1.1 installed on a 12.1" iBook running OS 10.2.8. iPhoto 1.1.1 has been working fine but suddenly it quits in the middle of importing photos. I think something bad happened when I was uploading some photos to Kodak's website & my DSL connection went down, so I guess I should re-install iPhoto but I can't find a download for anything older than iPhoto v.4.0.3 which requires v.4.0 already installed. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated. Steve

I have two photos on my camera and everytime I try to import them into iPhoto the application quits.

Imovie 11' quits when importing movies from my camcorder

I have a question. I have imovie 11'...and have made movies with iMovie before, but now that i have upgraded to iMovie 11', its is having troble with the import of the video from the camcorder and i am using a firewire, like i usually do. when I upload movies form my camcorder, iMovie suddenly quits. it somtimes uploads a few seconds, and other times a couple of minutes. I have a Macbook, and and Version 10.6.8. Can somebody help me please, because its taking me forever to upload all the videos. I have to stop, and delete the ones that had problems while importing, and then start all over again. Its annoying and very frustrating.
Help me please!!!!! =)

For what it's worth, I have been having problems importing video from iPhoto to iDVD in the iLife'08 and also could not select video from iPhoto into iMovie '08 for an iDVD project. Apple technician took all my video clips out of iPhoto and put them on desktop. IDVD '08 is filled with problems, including green screens that replace transitions if using iPhoto photos and video to make slideshows. However, I somehow found in my applications file an "IMovie-previous version"('06) and used it to prepare a slideshow from iPhoto, using video clips from desktop, then "shared" to iDVD '08 tp pick a new theme and it burned perfectly.
The iMovie version '06 is so much easier to work with and I can avoid the glitches of iMovie'08 that prevented me from importing video. By preparing movie, you can avoid using the transition window in iDVD'08 -- transitions that don't work. Forums on iDVD are filled with people having the same problem and we hope Apple will find a fix.
If you have'08 and want to revert to '06, there is now an Apple software that will allow you to do that- just offered, to allow people who especially are not interested in YouTube and more interested in sharing with family and friends for TV viewing.
