IPhoto 8.1.2 to 9.4.2 upgrade issue.

My operating system is OS X 10.7.5.
My old version of iPhoto was 8.1.2.
Just purchased and installed iPhoto 9.4.2.
All event names are still listed.
78 of the 90 events have a gray sunset with palm tree as their key photo which must be a default, it's not mine.  Their event names are correct.  The event hints say they have 0 pictures. (they all should have pics).
The other 12 events have no key photo.  The event hint says there are x number of photos, which is correct.  Going into the event shows place holders for each picture, but there are no pictures.
What is the best fix to go forward?  I really don't like going backward, software wise.  I want to stay on version 9.4.2.

Do the following: apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPhoto 9.3.2 crashing on startup after upgrade to 10.8 then 10.8.1

    Help,
after opening iphoto this morning and importing a bunch of photos from my camera I started getting constant crashes. I successfully imported the photos (first connection), then I took some more and connected my camera agian for a second import. Shortly after that iphoto (9.3.2) crashed. At that stage I was running 10.8. I have unable to successfully open iphoto all day - at least 20-30 attempts. I have restarted. Verified and repaired disk permissions. Verified the disk. Ran a hardware test. No apparent problems and no improvment to iphoto. I downloaded the 10.8.1 upgrade this afternoon - no fix.
I have ran the rebuild with iPhoto Library Manager - built a new library but could not connect to iphoto to complete the library copy/rebuild.
This is not the only crash problem I have been experiencing with Moutain Lion. I have also had similar, yet not as persistent, problems with iTunes - requiring a new libary rebuild. This caused all of my apps to disappear off my ipad. They still existed in the media files (music/itunes/media/etc) but had to be manually copied back to the itunes lib.
Also third party apps are crashing. Vectorworks 2012, Livesribe, Endnote X5.
Upgrading to Mountain Lion was the worst apple software experience I have ever had. I'm a 10-15 year user.
It took me clean installing 7 times. Back tracking to Snow Leopard, then a new user install of 10.8. Took me 4 days and required too many time machine recoveries. I seemed to have some serious corrupt file issues rleated to using migration assistant over a number of machines????
I digress.Back to iPhoto. Any ideas of this error report:

I was having a similar problem.  After upgrading to iPhoto 9.3.2, it was continuously crashing when I tried to open it.  I re-installed OSX, upgraded to Mountain Lion, checked my memory, installed a new HD, deleted every plist, db, and cache, did a complete re-install of all of my applications and data only to have none of it work.  The final solution was very unsophisticated, I installed an old version of iLife11 which "broke" the installation of iPhoto (it wouldn't run at all) and then I installed a fresh copy of iPhoto 9.3.2.  Problem solved!  I certainly don't guarantee that this will work for anyone else, but I wanted to pass it along just in case it works for someone else.

I have been working on a wedding slideshow for days and have over 3,000 pictures in albums on iPhoto.  It suddenly will not open without upgrading to Aperture and I can't find any of my photos!!!!  I need these photos, to complete the video, not to mention I don't want to lose them. I have had trouble ever since upgrading  to Maverick.

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

iPhoto does work and there is an upgrade:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

The iPhoto library should be in your user folder/Pictures unless it was moved.

Updates from previous ov iPhoto '11 are free - upgrades from older versions like iPhoto '08 are purchases - you can run your current version under Mavericks if you do not wish to upgrade

There is no download aside from the one in the Mac App Store available to people running Mac OS X 10.6.6 and newer. The other way of getting iPhoto 9 is to purchase iLife 11 on DVD. As iLife 11 requires Mac OS X 10.6.3 or newer, it's usually best to update to 10.6.8 for free and then use the Mac App Store version.

I have created an album in iphoto but can't buy it because I still use iphoto 08 (version 7.0). If I upgrade to version 8.0 which is iphoto 09 can I print my album in New Zealand?

    Yes  --  http://store.apple.com/us/help/print_products/routing
but to upgrade you will need to purchase an iLife DVD from ebay or Amazon or other source - older versions of iPhoto are not available from the App Store - either iLife '09 or '11 will work on 10.6.8
beware that sometimes books (albums are logical organzational elements in iPhoto) sometimes will change with upgrades so you may need to make some changes after upgrading - be sure to carefully preview prior to ordering the book

  • IPhoto 5 Upgrade Issues

I had one issue but I thought I was smarter than the software - now I have more than 1! Any help is appreciated:
    a. I upgraded to iPhoto 5.04. iPhoto went through the process to upgrade my files for reading in 5.0. This went smooth until the end when iPhoto unexpectedly quit.
    b. I went through the process a couple of times with no success and iPhoto would not open because it wanted to update the formats.
    c. I called support and they toldme to do a manual backup.
    d. I moved my iPhoto Library, instead of copied my iPhoto Library for a backup.
    e. I moved it back and made a copy.
    f. iPhoto now opens because it does not see any photos in my Library even though the iPhoto library is in the picture folder.
    g. The iPhoto library is in the right place now but I can't do any imports to iPhoto because the photos in 4.0 format.
    Suggestions are appreciated.

    Hi DOggy Dog!
So, right now you have iPhoto working, you can open and close with no issues. It just does not see the images.
You can see the images, I am assuming through finder? If so, why don't you open an image in Preview > do a save as to desktop with a Different name > and import into iPhoto by dragging into or dropping onto iPhoto icon in your dock. If this works you can consider doing your photos this way...

    Good evening,
after upgrading Iphoto 9.5 a page opened requiring to upgrade my library. As it did not work out,for fear of losing all my pictures I  loaded Iphoto 9.4.3  with Time machine but I had lost quite a few photos. As a matter of fact, after searching , I found them In Photo library in 'images' on my hard drive. When I double click, 9.5 appears with all my pictures. Therefore, I would like to use 9.5 just by by clicking on the icon down my finder and  not by being obliged to open my hard drive.
Would you please tell me what I should do. Thank you.
    Best regards,

    Huh?
As it did not work out,for fear of losing all my pictures I  loaded Iphoto 9.4.3  with Time machine but I had lost quite a few photos. As a matter of fact, after searching , I found them In Photo library in 'images' on my hard drive. When I double click, 9.5 appears with all my pictures.
So, you have restored 9.4.3 from Time Machine but can see all your pictures in 9.5?
Do you have two version of iPhoto on your Machine?
And if you didn't update the Library, ("as it did not work out,") how can you see things in 9.5?
So, whatever set up you have is confusing.

If you have a recent backup of your iPhoto Library folder then take the old library out of the Pictures folder and put your backup library in there (I suggest you backup the backup before you do this) Launch iPhoto and hopefully everything will be back to normal. If you don't have a backup then...
The only thing I can tell you to do right now is to create a new library and import/add to the library to reimport your images.
    these are the steps:
    Close iPhoto
Drag the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop
    Launch iPhoto
In the next window that opens choose to create a new library.
When the new empty library opens go to File/add to library
In the next window navigate to the library on your desktop, highlight it in the window and hit the "open" button.
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
You will have to redo your albums, keywords, etc.
    Good luck!
    Lori

How do I restore/find "events" in iPhoto on my iPhone and iPad after I upgraded to iOS 7?

    You deleted the iCloud account?
If so, connect the iPhone to your computer and sync your Contacts and Photos using iTunes.
