Why can i no longer open iPhoto after the Yosemite update ?

At a guess: because you didn't also update iPhoto from the App Store. But it's only a guess as you give us no information to work with.

Looking for a copy of iPhoto 2.0.1 UPDATE... can't find it anywhere?

The update for 2.0.1 is only available through Software Update. Look for Software Update in System Preferences.
The update will be offered if Software Update thinks you only have iPhoto 2 installed.
If you have updated to 2.0.1 before go to:
    MacintoshHD> Library>Receipts and look for:
    iPhotoUpdate201.pkg
Delete this receipt. And try Software update again.

This problem has been reported by quite a few forum members, who skipped the update to iPhoto 9.5.1 while running Mavericks. In that case try to purchase iPhoto again instead of updating.
After making your backup try the following:
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the applications folder, but do not empty the Trash.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your AppleID.
Open the main page of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support, as Niel pointed out: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/

  • I have tried VERY unsuccessfully to install iphoto 9.2.3 update...it says it has successfully updated - then on opening says: iPhoto cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure iPhoto works with this version of Mac OS X.

I have tried VERY unsuccessfully to install the new iphoto 9.2.3 update.
I have installed it several times both from the appstore and from Apple Support downloads...it says it has 'successfully updated' - then on opening iphoto, a dialogue box pops up and says:
iPhoto cannot be opened because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure iPhoto works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.

Insane...I have all my updates including Lion 10.7.3 why does APPLE KEEP SENDING BETAS AS A REAL PRODUCT?
Does anyone know how to copy over a backup from a twinned drive Backup? What files etc.
    Thanks tons...

    Thanks Terence,
I did get it working finally...and your last advice was what I needed.
I am embarassed that I was an early adopter...SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER and read the problems before creating some for myself.
This was an excercise in frustration, because of the obtuse division between the appstore and Apple Support downloads... it was a bit of a circuitous route...strange that with all the security reciepts and tracking that Apple goes to to prevent piracy... which Steve by his own admission used to build Apple...
Why aren't the server scripts smart enough to say…”HEY DUMMY you can't use this download because you purchased the last iPhoto upgrade from the appstore...and… DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME and precious data BUDGET downloading this gargantuan file which will eat 20% of your expensive 5Gb monthly data allotment!!!…and NOT WORK…only pretend to…and then foul your system….kill your productivity and turn your hair whiter…even worse than LION did.
I am just so antagonized by the inept scripts in recent installations that don't do a diagnostic before allowing installation that is going to corrupt things...I had less effort and frustration when I ran my ATARI with a MAC emulator...rarely lost any productivity to nonsense.
I AM TIRED OF BETAs dressed as products...designed and rushed out for Apple toys that once were tools of the creative trade...COREL...may still have a chance at a comeback if Apple keeps pumping out toys instead of the venerable tools we once adored as income enhancers.

  • Iphoto not working after update to mavericks. Cant access photos!!

Hello i just got the update for osx mavericks and i no longer can use iphoto.
I would just update it but the update is linked with a old itunes account i cannot remember the password for.
So my question is how do i update it without losing any of my data? Most of my photos were stored using iphoto.
Or if there is a way to access the photos in finder ill just take them off and stop using iphoto.
Please help!! I got like 4 years of photos in jepordy right now.

    Hello Jorda5s,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with iPhoto.  When you update your operating system, applications you use may need to be updated as well to be compatible.
I understand that you are unable to update iPhoto because it was purchased with an older Apple ID that you no longer have the password for.  I recommend resetting the password for that account using the steps in the following article:
Apple ID: If you forget your password
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5787
If you continue to have issues resetting your password, please contact our Account Security Team:
Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security

Once you have reestablished your password, I recommend updating iPhoto.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • IPhoto 09 Freeze While Updating Library.....Everytime

I recently bought a Macbook Pro 15" 2.4GHz and installed iLife 09. On my previous computer (Powerbook 12" 1GHz) I was running iPhoto 2.0.1. I had copied that entire HD to an external drive. I plugged in the external drive to my new Powerbook and copied the User>Pictures>iPhoto Library Folder to appropriate location on the new HD. When starting up iPhoto 09, I got the message that it needed to update the library. Every attempt I made resulted in iPhoto freezing with the "Updating photo library...Time remaining" message. It often froze with the same amount of time remaining. I have tried several remedies: I deleted the com.apple.iphoto.plist from the preferences folder. I also tried to use BatChmod after following instructions in another forum, but that didn't seem to help. I also downloaded iPhoto Library Manager and used its rebuild function. This appeared to work and all the pictures are present (minus about thirty, but I think they were duplicates), but all 7,000+ got imported with the same date (DEC 31 2000) and were randomly arranged into about a dozen Events. Also, none of the Albums were transported. I don't have time to individually rearrange all the photos and rebuild all the albums. I would be happy solving either one of the problems. Thanks.

Thanks for responding Larry. I tried that, but unfortunately it did not work.
Based on what I read in some other threads, I tried forcing iPhoto to rebuild the library by holding command-option while starting iPhoto, but that did the exact same thing. I ended up downloading iPhoto Library Manager and using that to rebuild the library, which worked. There was one photo that could not be copied over (corrupted file or something), so that's probably what was making iPhoto hang. Luckily my mom had a backup on a CD.

  • Iphoto disappeared when I updated to OS X Yosemite - help!

iphoto disappeared after I updated to Yosemite. When I spotlight search it, I'm alerted my version is incompatible with Yosemite, and need to update. When I go to update, I'm told this version isn't available yet in my country (USA). The app and all my non-backed up photos are gone... how do I recover this?

    1. First make a back up:
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
    2. Download the App:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Photo corruption post iPhoto 6.0.5 update

Recently downloaded iPhoto 6.0.5 update via software update and multiple photos in the library appear to be corrupted or have a portion missing. Some but not all of these photos have been modified and appear fine in the "Original" folder and in their thumbnail view but appear corrupted in the full screen view. By corrupted, I mean that a portion of the photo from the top down to a certain point appears as it should and then objects in the photo are shifted, color distorted, and sometimes overwritten with colorful vertical bands from that point down. In slideshow view, these pictures are all black. I have backup copies of the originals but can't work on any of the current projects without encountering these problems.
Is it possible to remove the 6.0.5 update if it is, indeed, the cause? Thanks
mac mini (Intel 1.66 GHz Core Duo)   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Base model: 1.66 Intel Core Duo, 512 Ram, Combo Drive, 60 GB HD - external FW HD, recent software update to OSX 10.2.8, iphoto 6.0.5

I tried the instructions to rebuild the iPhoto library. Not knowing exactly what the problem was, I checked all the boxes to rebuild all thumbnails, find orphans, etc. The process executed in less than 10 seconds. Now, iPhoto only shows 6 photos in my library (there were several hundred before). One has the colors all messed up in certain parts of the photo, one is about 3/4 of the picture and the bottom 1/4 is blank, one only appears as a grey, dashed outline, and 3 appear as they should until I try to view them full screen and I get an infinite rolling beach ball.
To answer your question, TD, when using Finder to navigate to my iPhoto library and opening jpgs from the "Modified" folder, the files appear incomplete. Some are normal and continuous from the top down to a certain point - a different point in each file - where they go blank from there down. Others appear completely black in Preview. Still others appear completely normal, as they should. Even the jpgs that show as normal in Preview, however, no longer appear in my library when I open iPhoto.
The beach ball started rolling before I started this post. Its still rolling...

  • IPhoto 9.2.3 update is incorrectly shown in App Store

iPhoto 9.2.3 update.   I can not get this update badge to go away.   I have never purchased iPhoto through the App store so I don't know why it even shows up.  I knew I had updated iPhoto already but wanted to see what it said when I clicked on the update and I got the following error:
iPhoto is already installed on this computer.
Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates.
Of course, I had updated my iPhoto when it came out for my desktop a while ago and can't get this annoying badge to disappear. Would love some help with this.  Thanks

    Hi...
Try deleting the cache and .plist files associated with the App Store.
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.appstore folder to the Trash.
    Now go to ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
Move the com.apple.appstore.plist file to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
Note:   For Lion v10.7x:  To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

  • Iphoto keeps asking to update thumbnails - EACH TIME

iPhoto iphoto keeps asking to update thumbnails - EACH TIME. I've told it ignore 5 times, and each sessions involves about 100 photos and 2 horus of clicking no - help!
Where is the file that I can update?
    Thanks
    George

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD
