IPhoto 8 is NOT installed after I installed it

I purchased iLife 8 for family (5 installations). On my 5th installation, iTunes installed but not iPhoto. I tried it again with the same results. Any ideas what's happening?

I trashed the iPhoto pkg files and reinstalled -- still no new iPhoto. I clicked on "custom install" and iPhoto is grayed out. I've installed this on my other 4 computers with no problem, so maybe it's some setting in the computer that's goofing things up?

iPhoto will not upgrade after installing Yosemite.

Ok so here's what you gonna do. (had this problem myself today, and after some fiddling figured out what to do.)
Find your old iPhoto with a cross through it, right-click it and select 'show package contents'. A folder will open. In that folder go to Contents>MacOS and there will be three little things there. Click on the one called 'iPhoto' and terminal will open. Leave terminal open and wait four seconds and VOILA! iPhoto opens. Leave terminal open until you are finished with iPhoto, because if you close terminal, iPhoto will close with it. THX! ENJOY! Hope it works.
    P.S.
You can close terminal once you close iPhoto. I also suggest backing up your iPhoto library while you can.

  • Update to Iphoto 6-Can not install

Everytime I try to upgrade to 6, I get the following error:
You cannot install IPhoto 6.0.1 on this volume. An eligible IPhoto application was not found in the location/Applications/IPhoto.app.
Why? I own ILife and now of course there are newer upgrades. How do I fix this please? Thanks
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Podisc,
You DO have an earlier version of iPhoto installed...right?
    Which version is it (2,3 4, 5)?
You DID purchase iLife 06, and are trying to install the iPhoto 6 application, right?
(I have heard of someone trying to install an iPhoto 6 update to their iPhoto 4 software. It won't work. You need to have purchased iPhoto 6 in order to install any updates to it).
Current version of iPhoto 6 is 6.0.4.
Also..you may want to keep in mind these boards are not run by Apple employees...just "civilians"...

I have a new iMac, OSX Mavericks .  Data transfer from my MacBook Pro via my ext. hard drive was done by Apple.  But, Mavericks will not open my iPhoto and says I must upgrade.  The upgrade never finishes.  What can I do? I need to access my photos asap.

What version do you have on your Mac?

  • Iphoto slideshow does not work after SL upgrade

Hi, i have a 2 month old macbook pro 3.06Ghz and after i upgraded to SL i have several problems: Toast does not work, my pretty new HP 4480 Photosmart Printer works but the scanner function not (error message comes up no connection to scanner), etc. but the biggest problem right now is that iPhoto does not work anymore. i use it a lot and i have over 20000 photos on it. before with leopard it was working fine, but now after scrolling through a few photos iphoto get stucked for a few minutes before it runs again. the slideshow feature doesn't work. i read a few forums about this or similar problems but all the advise didn't help. i reinstalled the iphoto from the original computer disc and later from a life 9 disc as well. first the slideshow works once or twice with only a few pics, but later it turns the slideshow on but get stucked and the only way to get out of the frozen screen is by turning the computer off (holding OFF button down). i did also verify disc permission and disc repair = no help. what can i do?

after 2,5 days (spending half a day within the apple shop as well with this problem) i have it all back on track.
i did a lot of different things: trying to remove and reinstall iPhoto; did a SL installation over the old SL I had on my HD; backing up all the data of course before and reformatting my HD and installing a new clean SL version on it + a new clean version of iLife9 with all the updates and than I migrate with migrate assistant all the data and setting with time machine back onto it, but all this didn't work, because it also migrated the error/bug through time machine with it.
so at the end i just installed a brand new, clean SL version on my hard drive, than I did the updates and put all my data, photos, docs, movies, mail, bookmarks, music, etc manual back into the system (drag and drop from my external HD, where i had an exact copy of my internal HD) and did all the settings again in all the different programs.
the only thing i used migrant assistant with time machine for was for the programs. it seems to work now all fine and i even got more free space on my HD, because some of the old stuff i always carried with me but i never used, i didn't take over.
basically everything is clean now. At least i hope and works fine. touch wood!

  • IPhoto 08' will not launch after double clicking icon in dock

I recently had to reinstall the Tiger OS and did so through Archive and Reinstall option. After everything was back up and running I installed all updates available through Software Update. But, iPhoto does not launch. The icon bounces up and down twice and then stops... nothing happens after that. I tried looking for the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file and could not find it in the preference folder. Funny thing is that all the other iLife apps work just fine.
Any ideas not involving reinstalling iPhoto through the CD? I just moved and am still trying to located the iLife CD.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    Start with the troubleshooting basics:
    1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • IPhoto 9.6 not loading after Yosemite, Library Converter not working

So did the Yosemite upgrade on my old iMac that was running Mountain Lion (skipped Mavericks on this one) and had the similar problem opening iPhoto that everyone else was having. Tried to upgrade it through the App store, and it still gave me the "iPhoto cannot be opened" problem, so I deleted iPhoto and reinstalled from App Store. Now, it's telling me "to open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared" and links me to the iPhoto Library Upgrader application. I downloaded and installed that, and when I run it it tells me "you can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto".
So now I'm stuck in a loop and can't open iPhoto at all. I have backups of the photo library on Time Machine, but not sure at this point what my next step should be.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Iphoto and Itunes not responding after an Apple Software Update

    Hi
Afew days ago I did the Apple Software Update and since then I haven't been able to get onto my Itunes or Iphoto, both of which I use quite often. Itunes just doesn't load at all and Iphoto starts to open the page but then that multicoloured ball appears and it doesn't respond. I am just wondering why this is happening and whether it's happened to anyone else at all? Ideally I'd like to get rid of this new update but don't know how to go about it. I'm a bit of a computer dunce so if you could offer any solution in a straightforward way I would be so grateful. Thanks!

created a new user account and the same problem arose there as well.
Then you need to re-install iPhoto:
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applcations Folder to the trash)
    2. Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only...’
This process will not affect your Library of photos. However: Always back up before an operation like this.

  • Iphoto & Preview will not open after software update

I did a software update on my macbook pro yesterday, and cannot open iPhoto or review.
I am running on OSX 10.7.2 and the iPhoto is '11 9.2.1 Preview is 5.5.1
When i open either app nothing comes up, only the bar at the top of the screen changes to whatever app it is, but all the options in 'file, edit etc' cannot be clicked on.

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • IPhoto videos will not play after OSX Lion upgrade

My old iPhoto videos uploaded from my iPod won't open since it's been updated to OSX Lion... but the new videos uploaded since the upgrade could be played! The thumbnail displays the video but when I click it, a grey triangle with an exclamation point inside it shows up!
What do I have to do to be able to play all my other videos?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • IPhoto Not Installed After Snow Update

Ok let me get all the questions out of the way.
    - I installed family pack Snow on both my MBP & wifes MBP
    - My MBP works great, all that is advertised
    - The other MBP is running just the same, except it’s missing iPhoto
Yes that’s right iPhoto is not installed on this Mac. I’ve checked everywhere, I’ve even done a check disk, searched the web far and wide without anything coming back explaining why it’s not on there.
If anyone has an idea as to why iPhoto 09 is not installed please let me know.
    Thanks ahead of time.

Thanks Larry, to answer your question no I did not delete it.
Quick history….. I bought this specific MBP with Tiger on it two days after Leopard was released. Called Apple they sent me a Leopard upgrade disc for free to install. Just recently I found out that the Hardrive in the MBP was failing causing issues (1yr of use), so I bought a new one replaced that. Instead of installing Tiger, then Leopard, then Snow, I worked around that by installing Leopard then Snow.
Is iLife (the full install) on the original Tiger disc that came with the MBP? How the poo do I install it now with Snow installed? Can I call Apple and see if they could send me an iLife 09 disc? Could this be why iPhoto is not appearing on my MBP?
