Iphoto 8 no longer exports to quicktime in wide screen
I upgraded to Leopard and iLife 08 and now when exporting slide shows from iPhoto 8 to quicktime, they are no longer in widescreen. I select widescreen format and preview is fine, but after exporting the format is 4:3. I verified my slideshows that I exported last year and they all are widescreen. Verified movie properties in quicktime and they are not 853x480 as with my previous exports.
Please provide suggestions on how to do this with iPhoto 8.
Saving the file from Preview didn't help.
Here's what did. I had moved the iPhoto library from its default location to a shared location which worked for a time. However, I found another post saying you shouldn't do that. So I moved it back to its original location, exported all the photos, then created a new iPhoto library on the shared disk (held down the Option key when starting iPhoto) then imported all the photos to the new shared library. After that, I was able to import the new photos, and everything seems to be working fine.

Keynote export to Quicktime = blank white screen
We have Keynote 4.0.1. We have a slide show that plays perfectly, but when we Export to Quicktime, the resulting movie has a blank white screen and our music track, but no narration and no graphics.

Thanks!From your description your problem may be that you have QuickTime video embedded in your Keynote document.
QT video will play normally in a Keynote presentation, however when you export the Keynote presentation to a QT movie, the video will be blank. This is a long-standing issue with Keynote and the 4.0.2 update does not fix this problem.
There is no workaround using Keynote only.
You can export the graphics portion of the Keynote presentation to a QT movie and then embed that movie in a video editing program such as Final Cut Pro (I don't believe iMovie is up to the task). Once you've assembled all the pieces--the Keynote presentation, your narration, and whatever else--you will then be able to export to a QuickTime movie.

Slideshow Transitions in iPhoto 3 won't export to QuickTime
Hello,
Would anyone be able to offer any suggestions/solutions to the problem I'm having with Slideshow transitions in iPhoto? I like the Cube transition, for example, and it appears on the screen when I tell iPhoto to play a slideshow that I am developing, but when I go to export same as a QuickTime movie, the transition in effect is Dissolve and not the specified Cube.

Can you give us some additional information regarding your setup: model, RAM, hard drive size and free space, system version, QT version, and exact iPhoto version?
You will have to update to iPhoto 5 in order to be able to get other than the dissolve transition in your iPhoto QT slideshows.

Cannot export to Quicktime anymore. Please help.
Hi all,
I did some maintenance on my computer recently and now I can no longer export to Quicktime format. The maintenance involved deleting old footage plus a bunch of "Media Cache Files," which were taking up nearly 90 gigs of space. 90 gigs! I guess over the years it built up! This was the first time I ever messed with these files, in fact I didn't even know they existed until recently. I found them within the following file structure:
AppData > Roaming > Adobe > Common > Media Cache Files
I did some research before deleting them and everything I read said it was ok to do so, but ever since I haven't been able to export to QT in Premiere Pro or After Effects. Premiere gives me the error message, " Unable to create or open output file." I reinstalled QT, but that didn't help.
I normally don't export to Quicktime format unless I'm doing some animation projects in After Effects, which is what I'm working on now.
Any help is much appreciated.

I've never tried using AME as a convertor. I'm not sure that's the ultimate solution to my problem, but I'm curious enough to give it a try. How would I do that? -
IPhoto 09 (Version 8.1.2) No longer exports after Mav Update

Ive just downloaded and installed the latest Maverick update 10.9.2, since then i can no longer export my pictures from iphoto, it just crashes with an error report. My Mac came with Snow Leopard pre-installed and included iPhoto - its a late 2009 21.5" model.
Ive downloaded all software updates as and when they have been available, i migrated to Lion a while back, then to Maverick last year. I skipped Mountain Lion.
I must admit i thought i was always getting the latest version of iPhoto as i upgraded the OS, its only now i see that I am still running an older version. I dont want to have to buy a new version as the one i have is fine for my needs. Is there a way for me to fix this export issue, or re-install the version i have somehow ?
The original software came pre-installed on the Mac with DVD copies as backups, however the Superdrive no longer works, so i cant use the disks!
Everything else seems to work fine still, but i regulalrly use the export feature to share photo's with family, so any help advice would be great !?

iPhoto is no longer allowing me to export & resize photos into a file on my desktop. It just states that it is Unable to create file on desktop. I'm not sure what this means on how to correct this issue. Any support would be greatly appreciated!
Then do the following:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
If Fix #1 fails to help continue with:

Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download IPhoto Library Manager 4 for OS XC 10.6.8 and iPhoto 8.1.2 and later or iPhoto Library Manager 3 (for OS X 10.5.8 and iPhoto 7.1.5 and earlier) and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu (iPLM 3) or Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu (iPLM 4) option.
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory. -
Export from iPhoto 4 yeilds JPG's with Quicktime icon?
Hi,
I am using iPhoto 4.0.3
I am exporting some old photos from iPhoto,
I choose File>Export...
Full size images / Use Title / Use Extension
Format : JPG
After the export if I locate the files in the finder window,
all the files have .jpg extension.
Some files have a mini version of the photo as their icon.
Other files have the preview logo with JPEG underneath as their icon.
Some others have the quicktime logo with JPEG underneath as their icon.
When I double click on those with the quicktime logo, Classic tries to start up!

Hi, Callie. This probably reflects different original source(s) for the batches of pictures that have different icons. The original sources may have defined the files according to their own defaults, as "belonging" to QT PictureViewer, Preview, or any other application capable of displaying them. Once a file is on your computer, as you've discovered, you can change the application with which it's associated to a different application of your choosing. But the application assigned by your camera, a friend's camera, or a web site before you import them onto your computer isn't under your control. Only after you have the file on your computer can you change that preassigned association.
If you open the Get Info window for any .jpg file, change its "Open with" application to the one you prefer, and then click the "Change All" button below it, all JPEG files that are on your computer will afterward open into that application when double-clicked, and will be displayed with an icon representing that application (unless they are given picture-preview icons). I'm not sure if that will be true of all .jpg files that you load onto your computer afterward, or whether those will retain the associated application and icon assigned by their source until you change it. You can experiment with that and see. -
Iphoto transitions exporting to Quicktime
Working in iphoto 08. "Fit slideshow to music" simply does not work, so I manually adjusted dissolves and display length to have the music and images end at roughly the same time. Exporting to Quicktime seems to ignore all of my transitions and the photos are done displaying with about a minute left in the music.
Exporting to idvd or imovie creates unacceptable reduced quality of the images. Is there a way to make the iphoto slideshow export exactly how it's playing in iphoto?First are you using iPhoto 08 which is version 7 or iPhoto 09 which is version 8?
Exporting to Quicktime from iPhoto 08 (V7) will not get your transitions as a straight to QT export doesn't support them. With iPhoto 09 (V8) a slideshow export was added that would give you all of the features you had in the iPhoto slideshow.

So if you're at Version 7 you'll need to use a 3rd party slideshow application like PhotoPresenter or use iMovie to get your transitions.

Since installing OS X 10.7.5 and iPhoto 9.4, I can no longer export photos from iPhoto. I get a message that "iPhoto quit unexpectedly while using the HPPhotoExport plugin."
Trash the HPPHoto Export Plugin
/Library/Application Support/iPhoto/*/HPPhotoExport
Remember you have two Libraries:
HD/Library and
HD/Users/Your Name/ Library
On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library
It may be in either.

IPhoto 6 Won't Export Slideshow Audio to QuickTime
When "exporting" iPhoto 6 albums to Quicktime the audio selected in iTunes does not export with the selected Album photos. iPhoto "Help" says that iTunes' music selected for the slideshow also will export as the Album's "selected" music. But the slideshow music selection will not export to QuickTime with the iPhoto 6 photo album. Has anyone solved this problem? Thank you very much for any suggestions you may have!
My situation is a bit different. I can not seem to export a "slideshow" without getting that awful sample music.
The process is File>Export>QuickTime. No Make Slideshow and then export.
From the Help files I am supposed to create a slideshow and then select music from iTunes in the SlideShow settings menu. Of course, I've now got a slide show with a huge filesize I didn't want. Delete isn't that big of a step. So now it is back to File>Export>QuickTime and check the box to add selected music.
Of course, there is no way to know if the music has been identified and included in the export. Just trust, I guess. OK, make the export happen.
Now, open the QuickTime movie file I just created. Once again, that awful sample music has been included. I've done this so many times with the same result.
Work around is to export the images as a QuickTime movie with no music. Then open the QuickTime move and add music.
Any idea as to why Apple put that stupid music checkbox in the File>Export menu if it only grabs the awful sample music? -
Should exporting to quicktime take this long??
using Handbrake, i have converted from VIDEO_TS to .mp4 encoded with H264 (at 640x476 with an avg. bitrate of 1500 k/s).
i wanted to combine two titles in the VIDEO_TS folder into one .mp4. so handbrake converted the two into .mp4 files which i then imported into iMovie on a new Mac Pro.
in iMovie i created a new project with the two files, selected both, and exported using quicktime. i exported under similar settings to the original files, resolution (640x480), same bitrate (1500 k/s), H264, etc.
the length of the exported movie is approx. 30 minutes.
2 of 8 cores are running the export. (it's still in process) but the initial estimate of time was roughly 600-700 minutes. it dropped down a little bit initially, but is certanly well over 500 minutes.
now running all 8 cores, the conversion from VIDEO_TS to .mp4 via Handbrake took about 7-8 minutes at the similar settings as indicated above.
should iMovie really take over 500 minutes? do i have a setting that is suboptimal? should iMovie be able to take advantage of more cores like Handbrake?

This does sound a bit long. (Would normally expect expect about 75 minutes on my older machine using a default preset.) On the other hand, if all you want to do is merge the two separate files together as a single file, why not use QT Pro ($30) if you already have it or MPEG Streamclip (free) to save the files in a single container and skip re-compression process altogether? -
QuickTime 7.4 can no longer export TIFF
Apparently QuickTime 7.4 can no longer export TIFF as 7.3 still could by choosing "Movie -> QuickTime Movie" and setting compression to "TIFF". In the current version I can only choose "Photo-JPEG".
I helped myself by replacing QuickTimeComponents.component in System/Library/QuickTime by the same file from another Mac with QuickTime 7.3.1 installed, but I am not too enthusiastic about that workaround.
Why did QuickTime change that, and when will it be corrected?In your System Preferences under QuickTime, choose the Advanced tab and but a check beside *Show legacy encoders*.

I have 10.0.3, why can I no longer export to vimeo? also, my quicktime movies are not compressed, they export as the whole file. this didn't happen before the update. do i have to now get compressor? help.
You should buy Compressor it never fails. It is a must have. I have given up using this buggy Share function and use Compressor all the time.

Quicktime no longer exporting my movies with file extensions
Hi all, QT is no longer exporting or saving movies with file extensions. The only way i can view extensions is to turn on all extensions in finder which means i get .app in my apps folder which i find looks naff, have i changed something to cause this?
CheersIn the export or save dialog windows is a check box to "hide" the file extension.

Slideshow Export over QuickTime didn't work
Hi,
today i try after a long time (and first time with iPhoto 8) an export over QuickTime. But the first time ever in my iPhoto history i have a big problem who i can't fix and i didn't found any informations here what i can do.
So... If i create an new album as a slideshow, i can put a lot of images who i like in it. But if o try to export this stuff, it's doesn't work. A short time before the export are finished, iPhoto stop the process without an message and suggest me, that all looks fine. But if i try to locate the file on my Picture/iPhoto Slideshow folder, i see nothing. The QuickTime file is missing.
Than i read, that i can try to export/share the Slideshow with iDVD. I try this, and oh man... I got an QuickTime file in my folder, but iDVD say it's not a movie file.
So i try it again to export another slideshow (my final one) to iDVD to got an QuickTime file but now i see nothing again in the folder. After my second try i got the message, that i didn't have enough space on my HD. The info was right. From 7 GB of free space on my internal HD a few minutes ago i have now only 500 MB free... Where all the space is gone?
I quit iPhoto and got my space back, thanks... But the export still doesn't work really good.
Hey, it's nice to watch pics in iPhoto, but it will be also nice to share some pics as a special slideshow outside from iPhoto.
If anyone have an idea what i can do?
Oh, by the way... After my first steps i try to install iPhoto completely new and i removed all external plugins... But nothing works better.It could be an issue of a file or folder inside the iPhoto application having it's access turned off to you somehow. It's happened before with certain buttons not showing or working.
Open the application, select, Control-click and select "show package contents". Then look for any item that has a red circle with a "-" in it attached to it. If you do that means you don't have access. Select it and bring up the Info window (Command-I) to change access. If that doesn't work you might have to reinstall the application from the installation disk that came with your Mac or from the iLife disks (whichever is appropriate).
