IPhoto 9.0 won't create Slideshow after 10.6.4 OS update

After the 10.6.4 OS update last week, iPhoto will not create a Slideshow. None of the photos selected show up, although the bar at the bottom shows the number of photos. None of the slideshow controls are active either.
Also, a previously generated slide show has now disappeared.
Luckily, we have several other Macs still running 10.5 in our office and I can work with those boxes, but this is a bit frustrating, since I was trying to generate a slideshow on a deadline project!

First try deletingiPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder , launch iPhoto and try again. It's amazing how many issues have been fixed by recreating the preference file. It's not 100% but helps in many seemingly unrelated situations.

  • IPhoto 09 will no longer create slideshows.

Most previously created slideshows seem to play fine.  However, iPhoto 09 won't create new slideshows.  Running OS X 10.6.8 on an iMac. ???  Any help will be appreciated.

I'm having the save problem. Using iPhoto '09 (8.1.2) on iMac 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo ... OS X 10.9.5.
I select an album, press the "+" at the bottom of the Source box, enter a name for the new slideshow and wait. Then nothing seems to happen. No addition to the Source listing. Number of pictures doesn't seem to make any difference.
    Appreciate any help/ suggestions.

  • IPhoto 11 just lost my my pictures - after the 9.0.1 update

Ran 9.0.1 update this morning. Imported photos from Halloween party last night (set to delete photos from card after import). I could see the pictures. Closed iPhoto. Came back. Event, pictures all gone. "Last import" shows pictures I took a week ago.
W-T-F Apple. I want my pictures back. I want my old iPhoto back. Take iPhoto 11 and shove it.

I haven't upgraded to iPhoto '11 yet. Just browsing around the discussions to see what type of issues people are having.
For what it's worth - I never let iPhoto delete photos from my CF cards. I have about 6 cards (courtesy of a 3-week computerless trip) and I'll only reformat the first one when the sixth one is full.

  • My computer won't start up after i tried to install updates

last night my computer told me there were 5 new updates available and i tried to install them, and my computer froze so i manually turned it off. now my computer won't start up. i get to the gray screen with the apple and the circular icon that swirls around which makes you think it's doing something but nothing happens. in the hopes that my computer was loading the updates, i let it run all night, and 8 hours later it was still doing the same thing. now my computer won't start at all, and i know there's power to it.
    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    chiae:
am i looking for the Leopard installer or the disc that came with my Powerbook all those years ago?
You are looking for the installer disk for the system which is currently installed on your computer, which is Leopard according to your profile.
Will doing these steps erase my hard drive?
No. Running Repair Disk will not in any way affect your data or any contents of your HDD. However, if there are serious directory issues your data might be jeopardized even without running Repair Disk.
Your question suggests that you may not have an up-to-date backup, if any backup at all. That is one of the most dangerous things you can do. I suggest that you take steps to secure your data even before you do much more. If you need ideas on how best to accomplish this, please post back and ask.
While you are waiting to locate your install disk, here is something you can do right now, and it will not in any way endanger the contents of your HDD:
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously later.
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command + Option + P + R keys immediately after the startup chime.
    • Hold keys down until you hear the startup chime for the third time.
    • Release the keys and immediately hold down Shift key to start up in Safe Mode.
    • Log in and empty Trash.
    • Restart normally and log in.
Please do post back with an update or with further questions or comments.
    Good luck.

  • IChat won't log in after OS 10.4.4 update

After doing the OS X 10.4.4 update, I find that iChat no longer logs in. It starts up, Bonjour logs in, but "Log into AIM" is grayed out.
I repaired permissions before and after installing the 10.4.4 update via Software Update and ran MacJanitor, but iChat no longer logs in. So I downloaded the Combo Update and reinstalled, again repairing permissions before and after - still iChat will not log in.
    Now what?

One other possibility is that other hands may have access to your Mac. Is it possible that someone else uses another account(s) on your Mac?
EZ Jim, that's a great question - are you a detective?
Usually I am the only one using my machine (my wife uses her iMac), but my daughter is home right now. I never considered that she may have changed anything on my machine, but when I just now asked her she made an apologetic face and said, "Yes, I may have changed something in iChat, because I used your machine to contact my friends..."
So, the mystery is now solved - how it got changed, and what got changed.
    The simplest things one overlooks....
    Thanks for your help.

  • Indesign CS5.5 won't open/start after a recent windows 8 update -- how to fix?

I just had a Windows 8 auto update happen and then my Indesign CS5.5 won't open/start. When I go to open it, it gets to the usual screen but then an error message shows up saying that Windows has encountered a problem and needs to shut the program down, and will notify me if a solution exists. What to do?

Do you see anything useful in the Event Viewer logs? Have you tired rebooting? Does it start if you log in with a different username?

  • IBook G4 won't start up after installing promted itunes & security update

    HELP.
My iBook G4 was prompted to update iTunes & some security update. I always do this when prompted, and restart as requested.
I installed the updates and restarted, but this time my iBook won't boot up. It makes the regular chime noise, goes to the gray screen, gets past the apple logo, then goes to a blue screen with the cursor in the upper left corner. The cursor moves just fine, the caps & num lock lights work, but it just never gets past the blue. If I leave it alone for a while, the cursor disappears, and I get the turning circle in the lower middle of the screen (the one that comes up during the gray screen). It just sits and sits on the blue. Hard drive isn't making any unusual sounds.
I tried starting it up from the Install Disc, which worked fine. I ran the disk utility and it said it didn't need any repairs.
    Still won't start up.
    I did the cmd + opt + p + r to get the 3 chimes... no change.
I tried the fsck thing, it didn't do anything.
    HELP.
    Am I a goner?
I saw that some other people had problems, but it seems like everybody's is just slightly different. My display looks totally normal, just won't get past the blue screen. My disk utility said that it didn't need any repairs? Looks like most other people at least saw some errors in there...

I think Carolyn misunderstood the "3 chimes" comment. I think what you meant was that you held down the key combo until you heard the normal startup chime for the third time, not that the iBook gave you the 3 long beeps of a failed POST (power-on self test) which could indeed indicate a RAM problem.
It's more than likely not a RAM issue. These bad updates occasionally happen and the way to handle it is to do what you're doing now; backup what you can and then do an Archive and Install of the OS (although usually a couple of reboots, start in safe boot mode and reinstall the update is usually all that's needed).

  • LG 22-inch monitor won't function properly after last Mac OS X Update

My new LG 22-inch monitor was working great until I received the last Mac OS X Update (10.4.9). I received this update after installing Tiger (better late than never...ha ha) and after I restarted my system, I saw multiples of the same files on my desktop, and when I would open a window, four duplicate windows would appear (this did not happen until after the update). The only thing that corrects the problem is to go into System Preferences => Displays and change the monitor resolution. But even after I Click to Lock Changes, I have to go in and do this every time I launch my system. I was so vexed that I hooked up the former monitor (Apple CRT, 17 inch) and now the same thing is happening to it! Sigh... I am no Mac Genuis, but I know someone out there can offer some advice! Thanks!

These warnings are accurate but according to Apple can safely be ignored. See Mac OS X 10.5: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore. IOW, They are not normally problems.
I check the volume scheme but I don't have any partition
You do have partitions & a partition scheme. To check what the scheme is, click on +the drive itself+ in the list on the left in Disk Utility. It will probably be identified as "298,1 GB WDC WD3200AAJS-40VWA0 Media" or something very similar. If it contains the startup disk, it will be the first item in the list. It will have one or more named volumes indented under it, such as "Macintosh HD."
When you have clicked on the WDC drive instead of a volume name indented under it, you should see seven items of information about it at the bottom of Disk Utility's window, to the right of an icon representing the drive. The info is in two columns. The last item in the rightmost column, below the S.M.A.R.T. Status (which should say "Verified"), should be "*Partition Map Scheme :* " & be followed by the scheme type. It should be "GUID Partition Table."
If you don't see the seven info items after selecting the drive, it may indicate a problem that needs attention, but I suspect that you just haven't looked in the right place for the info....
As for the 'cannot install' message, make sure that you have downloaded the right update, that it is not the server update version for example. You may need to download it again, discarding the first download as somehow defective.

  • IMac won't boot up after Lion 10.7.4 update

I made the mistake of updating my mid-2010 27" iMac earlier this week and now it won't boot up. It gets to the gray screen with the Apple logo and the progress bar to finalise the update, but the computer shuts down about 25% of the way in. Fortunately I could boot up to the recovery HD and was able to copy my files over to an external hard drive.
I have a Genius Bar appt today to get it looked at, but wanted to post this in case anyone else had this problem.

Try turning off the computer with the power button, then turn it on to allow it to restart.

  • Can't create playlists after 12.1.0.50 update

I edit old playlists and I can even duplicate them then edit them, but the + button does nothing now. I can't create new playlists or new smart playlists.

Since the last 12.1 update, I can't import audio files into a playlist.  I can crease a playlist, but I cannot drag files into it.  These are AIFF files and I was doing this successfully a few weeks ago.  They are files I made myself, so there is definitely no DRM.  Anyone else with this?  I hate it when Apple changes things that are working perfectly fine.  Autoupdate OFF!

  • IPhone 4S won't back up after iOS 6.1.1 update!!! :(

I updated my phone to the new iOS 6.1.1 this week, through the wifi connection. I just synced up my phone with the computer now via cable, and it says that "your iPhone cannot backup due to an error".
This is the first time my phone has done this, conveniently when I desperately need to back up my phone.
Can anyone try to help me with my inconvenient problem?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello emcruz1995
For issues with making phone calls on your iPhone 4s, check out the General phone and connectivity issues and look at the iPhone Call and Connection assistant as well as the No cell signal strength anywhere parts to get it sorted out.
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
    No cell signal strength anywhere
1      Verify that your carrier name appears in the status bar, at top left of the display.
2      Turn Airplane mode on, wait for the airplay symbol to appear in the status bar, and then turn it off again.
3      Reset Network Settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
4      If your iPhone is in a case, try removing it to ensure that the case isn't interfering with the cell signal strength.
5      Contact your carrier to find out the following:
    ▪       If you are in an area with network coverage.
    ▪       If there is a network outage.
    ▪       The account is properly configured to your phone.
6      Try to restore your phone and set it up as new.
Note: Your iPhone may be able to receive calls in as little as 15 minutes after activation. If you are migrating your current phone number, it can take longer–up to several days, depending on the type and status of your former service account–before calls are routed to iPhone. In the meantime, you can make calls and use the device's other features.
    Regards,

  • Applications won't start up after OS reinstall and software updates

I reinstalled my system software (archive). Immediately I needed to update. All updates occured successfully, but now my applications (including System Preferences) will not start up. When initiated, their icons jump up and down in the dock, but then nothing. Can anyone help?

Here are some troubleshooting steps for apps that crash on launch.
Normally, you should create a new User and test the apps in this new account if they work the problem is isolated to your User and not systemwide.
[Since you cannot perform this step due to not being able to launch System Preferences proceed to test your user.]
    1. Navigate to ~(yourhome/library/fonts - drag this folder to the desktop.
    • Restart and test your applications.
    • If they work start adding the fonts back few at a time.
( Likely suspects are Times RO & Helvetica Fractions, also if you do not use Classic you can trash the classic fonts.)
    2. Check Preferences Thoroughly;
    • Navigate to ~(yourhome/library/preferences drag this folder to the desktop.
    • Restart and test your applications.
    • If this works, save the old preferences folder somewhere else or on disk, name it "old prefs" .
** Note: A very important file is the "com.apple.Mail.plist" preference file located in the Preferences folder which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences (hold this one and replace if your problem is not with Mail).
You'll have to go through some of your System Preferences and apps to set the preferences back to how you like them. (Or if you have the time and inclination, "cherry pick" through until you find the problem one or two.)
    3. Check Permissions Inside Home Folder
       • Navigate to yourhome/library.
       • Get Info (Command - i) on folders for apps you are having problems with.
       • Open the "Ownership & permissions" disclosure triangle.
       • Make sure you are the owner, with "read and write" access.
    • Click on "apply to all"
       • If this is correct, open the "Applications Support" folder and do the same procedure (Command+I) for the folders with the names of the applications you are having trouble with.
If these steps do not resolve the issues, then the problem is probably systemwide.
You may be able to repair this with the10.2.8 Stand Alone Combo Update
This is a full install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before. It has worked well for many.
    Good luck, let us know.

  • IPhone won't turn on after a non-iTunes iOS6 update

Hi Fora! I just updated my iPhone 4S to iOS6 yesterday via an update message I got on my iPhone. The update went overnight while I was sleeping, and when I woke up my iPhone was off. I tried to turn it on and just get the black screen with the apple logo on it, and it just stays there. Whatever I press next the iPhone restarts and I get no further. I tried to do a hard-reset on it via iTunes, however when it's about to finish I get the error message that the recovery prosses has failed.

    Hey,
I've got the exact same issue with my new iPhone 4S. Updated using the on-screen prompt. I plugged in my 4S into the laptop to finish everything off and I get a message statng my phone needs to be restored to factory settings in order to update the OS. I do that, and now my mac is downloading iOS6 (strange when I thought my 4S had already done that), starts installing (or extracting) the update, and then I get the prompt that the update is not compatible with my current model. Now, if I try to turn on my 4S it simply stays on the Apple logo, first it's bright, then it dims down a bit and after a few minutes the phone switches off. Hard resets, trying to sync it with iTunes, nothing works, it just stays on the logo and nothing happens. Very frustrating and I've tried all the reset/restore tips provided and nothing works! Anyone know what is causing this or what can be done to fix it or do i just have to go in and get my handset replaced?
    Thanks.

  • ThinkPad S230u won't wake up after IRST sleep since BIOS update

I am using S230u (i7 CPU, 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD+24GB SSD) with Windows 8 x64 for half a year now and so far everything has worked just fine.
I have IRST enabled and when I put it in sleep mode, it automatically saves the state to SSD after an hour. That has worked great so far - I can put it to sleep for short periods and get it up instantly and if I put it to sleep for longer it will save to SSD and not use battery - when I wake it up, it flashes the red LED for a while and system comes back online.
However, this Friday I installed BIOS update - updated from 1.57.1.57 to 1.61.1.61 (at least according to System Update history).
Since Friday when I try to wake it up it does not work if the sleep is longer than an hour (or so) and the state was stored to SSD. The red led keeps flashing, but nothing happens - after around 1-2 minutes the system reboots and Windows loads again.
I want to downgrade the BIOS and doublecheck that this is the issue - perhaps it is some other Windows or Lenovo patch, so I want to be sure.
I have already located the BIOS drivers downloads (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS032000) and am wondering if downgrading BIOS to check if this is the issue can break anything with my laptop?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

We are working on the BIOS defect that causes this failure.  I'm very sorry for this inconvenience.
While downgrading the BIOS is a possible work-around, my advice is to simply disable the 30-Day standby feature in Lenovo Settings, until the new BIOS to fix this issue is released.
