IPhoto 9.1.1: slideshow images are zoomed into blurriness

New Mini 2.4, new Acer HD widescreen display, iPhoto 9.1.1 bundled. The mandatory library "update" on startup corrupted my library. Found a fix here to trash the iPhoto plist and reload the app. My old slideshows are gone, and when I select a range of photos and click "slideshow", I get the whole range in mini-thumbnails along the bottom; that's nice, but...when I play the slideshow, the images are so zoomed out that every last one is blurry. It looks like a nice photo in Preview after you hit "zoom in" about 5 times; it starts to pixelate, but this is just plain blurry. I posted another topic today about display size, and I wonder if these two flaws are related. The display puts a ridiculously small snapshot on the display, and full-screen simply puts the same dinky image on a field of black.
The subject images are, admittedly, mostly 1.3mp and 3.5mp. A few I took with my new 18mp Canon behave pretty much like they all used to. I've tried changing the monitor resolution from 1080p down to 720p, but it doesn't make much difference. The older ones looked fine and were zoomable without pixelating on my old Acer 1914 LCD monitor, so I didn't expect such a radical degradation of quality simply by upgrading to an HD monitor. The older photos (99%) of my library, are pretty much useless for slideshows now.

Create a new test library, import some photos and see if the problem persists. If not then your original library is damaged. Backup the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.
Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

    Hiya, Mike,
It's pretty tough to work through pasted-in code. If you can, please upload a page to a server, so we can see your pages in context. We'll be able to download it and look at it.
That said, you can do this: Find the beginning of an editable region in Code View. It will look like this:
    <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="nameofregionhere" -->
Click anywhere in that tag, between the opening bracket and the closing bracket.
Then, on the vertical toolbar on the left side of the Code window, click on the "Collapse Full Tag" button. It is the one with two arrows pointing at each other. This will collapse that entire editable region. Then click the button with the two arrows pointing away from each other. That will re-open the editable region, but will highlight it.
If you have nested regions, you will find the other inside one of the editable regions. If you copy the <!-- InstanceBeginEditable and do a search on it in that document, you will find the nested region.

    Thanks John,
I've downloaded the exif tool + the gui - I can see how it's meant to work and have successfully processed a single file (even when I got the name wrong it still copied exif time data!)
I'll investigate further on how to do a batch and use command line
Really appreciate your prompt response to my problem.
I will let you all know how I get on - will take quite a few weeks but I am confident I can get there!
    Thanks Mike
A week later I've now got back into this.  I used the exif gui tool - which was very simple to use once I sat down with peace and quiet for 10 mins!  I successfully copied and updated the correct exif data including capture time from the original backup files.  My metadata keywords remained untouched when I then updated the metadata setting from disk in lightroom.
exif is a great tool, and I found it easier to use than AM pro - I couldn't  see the photo attributes in the trial download so made it hard to sort by date.
Anyway my problem was overcome thank you

  • Fireworks CS-4 Slideshow images are too small. How can I fix this?

I've used the Fireworks CS-4 slideshow, for the Portfolio page of my website, for awhile now. However, more recently, after I've added new images to my slideshow, and previewed the slideshow in my browser, all the images are showing up way too small in the viewing area (slightly larger than thumbnail size). This was not happening before. I am running Windows 7 Pro on a 64 bit machine. Originally, I was running Vista Home Premium. Have not "put" the updated slideshow until issue is resolved. What may be causing the smaller images? What can I do to fix the problem? I'm a wysiwyg designer; not a techy. Thanks.

Here is a screenshot of what is loading....
    I can't even get add-ons or extensions.

  • How to create a pdf file where big (spread) images are tiled into small ones?

    Hi,
How do I create such (as in subject) file? I read on the net that people compain about such issue sometime occur in their export. I've to confess, I'm no expert in publishing and my friend help with creation of presentation file and I want to emulate this option as a sort of security measure, to discourage people from extracting images from my file.

While I haven't exactly managed to find the answer to my question, I've found a workaround that gives me the look that I want.
Instead of adding the 'parchment' background in Adobe Acrobat, I already add the background (as a Watermark) in the original Word 2010.  Although I think the images still get flattened, they get flattened into the parchment background so it doesn't actually matter.
    Solved now!

  • Full Screen Slideshow image sizing issue

    Hi all,
I am creating full screen slideshow for the first time.
I have added the slideshow into the DEISGN mode and it all looks perfectly fine. However, once I am in PREVIEW or PREVIEW IN BROWSER mode the image is at fullscreen but it seems to be zoomed in or cropped tighter.
The slideshow images are set to FILL FRAME PROPORTIONALLY. I have tried experimenting with different settings, page sizes, changing margins, changing header/footer guides, different image sizes etc... but no success.
    I am on a 27-inch (2560 x 1440) IMAC.
    help???
I have attached two images to show what I mean. Notice in PREVIEW mode how the image appears to be tighter/cropped/magnified.
    Thanks

    Thanks Zac,
So do you think I should change to Fit Content Proportionally?
And then recrop my images so the aspect ratios match my browser window or the page dimensions in Muse?
Sorry if these are stupid questions. I'm new to all this

  • Slideshow: Images very small on certain computers

    Hi all
I'm having a problem with slideshows created in (or updated to) iWeb '08. When viewed on some computers, the slideshow images are really small, just a tiny little bit bigger than the thumbnails on the page. On other machines, however, my slideshows play fine.
Slideshow not OK (small images) on:
    PowerBook G4, 800MHz, 15'' screen (1152x768), 1GB RAM, Mac OS 10.4.10, Safari 2.0.4 or Firefox 2.0.0.6
    iBook G3, 700MHz, 12'' screen (1024x768), 640MB RAM, Mac OS 10.4.8, Safari 2.0.4
    Slideshow OK (big images) on:
    PowerMac G5 Dual 1.8GHz, 23'' Cinema Display (1920x1200), 1.5GB RAM, Mac OS 10.4.10, Safari 2.0.4 or Firefox 2.0.0.6
    PowerMac G4 Dual 1.25GHz, Sony 23'' screen (1920x1200), 2GB RAM, Mac OS 10.4.10, Safari 2.0.4
Maybe it's depending on the screen size? Since that's the main difference between these 4 systems (but it doesn't seem to depend on the browser!). Anyone care to check on other machines with different screen sizes?
    Tina

I'm so disappointed in the new iweb. it takes forever to upload pictures from iphoto. i made a new iweb page and it's awful. there's mostly black space on the screen. why would they do that? the slide show displays tiny copies of my pictures almost thumbprint size. and the reflections are almost the same size as the photos. looks ********. vertical pictures are even smaller! why did they fix something that wasn't broken. now it is. if it looks this awful on my mac, what will it look to my friends on other computers? didn't anyone test this stuff? i want my old iweb back!!

  • I want to zoom into digital image pixels.

To demonstrate DSLR chip behavior at high magnification, I want to zoom into the frame and see how individual pixels actually look.
But when I use the Scale tool to enlarge the picture, FCPX thinks I want to avoid seeing pixels so it mushes the image, blurring all the pixels.
How do I get it to stop doing that? Can it be done in Motion?
Photoshop scaling has all these Bicubic options, but it also has the Nearest Neighbor option so I can see individual pixels in the blow up, there. Is there a way to get FCPX to do the same idea?

    Peter Inova1 wrote:
When you are zooming into a movie that is made in a way to reveal an HDSLR's blown pixels, it would be nice to see them as a pixel map.
again: the actual compression (from any cam!) doesn't deliver single pixels.
it starts on the sensor of the cam - ever heard of the Bayer Filter?
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayer_filter
if you could read out the raw data of that chip, you'd notice twice as much green 'dots' than red and blue, oops!
    next, your cam compresses '4:2:0'
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4:2:0
that Chroma Subsampling drops 7 of every 8 'color dots' ... most pixels are 'grey'!
finally, it's a lossy codec, working with 'assumptions'
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inter_frame
    picture-prediction .... that's bits, not atoms
on de-coding, final delivery, these 'formulas' are calculated to a 1920x1080 picture ... but that is not the 'pixel reality' from your cam, nor on its sensor, nor in the file.
so, a zoom-to-pixel-level is a special effect, as mentioned above, create a close-up in Photoshop, showing r/g/b- squares … but this is not reality.

  • Keeping Photoshop Raw Image Adjustments When Images Are Imported

I've got a bunch of raw images that have been adjusted in Photoshop. When these raw images are imported into Aperture, all the data stored in the .xmp files are stripped out, meaning the raw files are imported without any adjustments. Is there a way to import raw images so they retain the adjustments that have been made in Photoshop? I hope so. The idea of importing all my raw files into Aperture and having to readjust every single image is unthinkable.

With all due respect, I do "want" desperately to be able to use Aperture as a RAW converter-good workflow.
Sure... different meanings of "want". I "want" Aperture to be usable for that, but in its present state, you don't "want" to use it, because it's not very good at it. I tried a number of different pictures; it ranges from "okay" to "astoundingly bad", depending on the subject matter. In no case does it approach Adobe Camera Raw in quality; but it is not hideous in all cases.
Take a bunch of your own pictures and burn them to a CD, both RAW files and edited versions. Bring the CD to an Apple Store, sit down, and have a go at Aperture. In my case, it was the final thing that saved me the money of buying the software.
As a "better iPhoto" I think it's a winner. But it is, by no stretch of the imagination, a "professional" photography application. If it were a $50 replacement for iPhoto I'd probably have already bought it. It could be useful from an organization standpoint -- except for the fact that it can't read many of my Photoshop PSD files at all since they are in LAB color mode.

  • Some images are not given date folders upon import

I have the date chosen as an import preference and most of the time the images are placed into the dated subfolder.  However, not all of the time.  I recently imported 331 photos with 12 dates of photos.  First, none of the photos were put into the correct subfolders - they remained in the "My Lightroom Photos" folder.  So I reimported them and 8 of the 12 subfolders were set up; the others remained in the "My Lightroom Photos" folder.  I tried a third import and the message was that all of the images had already been imported.  I tried setting up new subfolders and moving the images to the new subfolders that did not work.  Any thoughts?

Thanks, but I am not sure how to do that.  Do I have to select all of the photos that need folders first? and then do what?
What also seems to have happened is that I did not import a lot of metadata - histograms, etc.for the images that did not go to the subfolders.  Sorry - I am new to Lightroom and it is daunting at this point.

    I have several interanl HDs.
On one of them the images are divided into 2 folders

I had just moved one folder from one sub folder to another using LR
After which in the library module
the work folder and all it's sub folders are grayed out and have no image totals
however the images are viewable and load and can be worked on in Dev module.
The image folders do not have question marks as they would if they could not be found.
The images are where they should be when I look for them in the finder.
The personal folder is functioning the same as the other
but all it's subfolders are grayed and without totals
The parent folder does have a total !
    I optimized the Catalog.
    I sync'ed  folders
    I shut down and restarted
    Nothing has changed
I have no idea what to do.
    any thoughts ?

  • Poor Image quality of photos that are loaded into imovie 09 for slideshows

I've been scouring through the topics on the subject and cannot seem to find a definitive answer. I use imovie primarily to make photo slideshows mainly for my wedding photography. imovie HD (the 06 version) was/is fantastic. imovie 09 however seems to have a problem coping with the images that are imported. The issue lies with colours, particulary where a smooth colour gradient occurs, also too it seems to struggle with blacks on occassion. It is as if imovie 09 doesn't have enough colours and this 'gradation' is clearly evident on a number of pictures used. All my images a hi res jpeg, some converted from RAW.
In iphoto, photoshop, finder, bridge etc they are 100% fine but the moment they are either dragged from a folder into IM09, or imported via the menu the issue occurs. I have burn't a DVD with these slideshows and the DVD shows the same problem. There must be a problem when the image is brought into IM09 initially, perhaps the downsizing process is too much resulting in a super compressed image, hence this messy colour gradation.
I've even exported to a quicktime movie and they are 100% clean images, but I, prefer the ease of adding music and other features in imovie.
Something is not right and it's a pain. imovie HD 06 is so much better at handling this, I'm not sure what apple have done here. This problem was presented a week after I had my mac book pro 13" at the Australian PMA back in July. Apple guys acknowledged the problem and even used my 'clean images' on several of their macs to confirm a software issue, they said they would pass it up the line but nothing in terms of software updaes have fixed the issue. I'm sure others have encountered the problem. Any suggestions? Help appreciated.

Yup, you are not the only one, its sooo easy to demonstrate. Take any nice photo with some dark gradients, resize to HD resolution, import and export as HD.
