IPhoto 9.1.5 fails to show slideshows, only shows a black window for 1 second

Hello,
I recently upgraded to iPhoto 9.1.5. When I press the play button below the screen to start a slideshow iPhoto only fades out the screen and stays black for a brief time but immediately returns to the iPhoto screen. When I select photos and press the + button to create a new presentation it opens a new presentation but shows a black screen as well. And when I select a thema for the presentation, the previews are black as well. Has anyone an idea what to do?

Make a temporary, backup copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Hold down the option key during start up - you will be given the choice of which partition to use (Macintosh HD or Windows). I am having the same problem - Windows 7 seems to have installed but it goes to a blank black screen and there is nothing to do but force a reboot. I too have an i3 iMac... Windows 7 32-bit from original disc.

Black window for Show Photo Settings

Using iMovie 6.3. I have edited several photos and put them in place for iMovie. but without Ken Burns effect. When I want add editing, ie. Ken Burns effect, I get a black window which makes editing impossible. This only happens with photos previously dragged to bottom row and not to new attempts. When I click Show Photo Settings, the edit window goes black. Can I avoid this?

IPhoto 11 upgrade corrupted photos, Photo showing up black white outlines

I am going to post in the iPhoto and Time Machine forums. I tried to upgrade to the iPhoto 11, and bunch of my photos are now showing up blank with white outlines. I would only say that about half of my photos between July 4th and when I did the upgrade are showing up in this manner.
I went back to iPhoto 9 and tried to restore my iPhoto Library back to the point just before I upgraded. When I go into iPhoto "Browse backup" it still shows the the photos blank with white outlines. Also on the right side of Time Machine there are only white bars until Nov 17th. The bars before then are gray. What does this mean?
Any suggestions on how to recover the corrupt photos?

Are you sure the photos are corrupt? Sounds like the thumbnails need to be rebuilt to me: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

N96 failing to show names in SMS for various conta...

Since a couple days ago my N96 (orange) has not been showing contact names which are assigned to the number, instead I get +7789.... etc
When people ring me the number sometimes shows.
I have checked there are no duplicates, deleted and re-entered and checked all other settings. I have even had a service update from Orange but this failed to rectify the issue.
Strangely though some peoples names do show up and the ones that have a problems sometimes fix themselves but shortly go back to not displaying.
Any ideas people?

If its only happening to certain of your contacts then its definately dupicates.
-You can check this by deleting a number and dialing it out to see if a name appears.
But if you have duplicaed more then wice it still wont show.
-Alternatively you may use the search icon on the phone to look for the purticular number which the name is not showing up.
But you also said that 'Since a couple of days ago and it sometimes fixes itself before happening again.

You may try the following to see if it helps.
- A restore by keying in *#7780# when on standby - This will not delete any data but will restore all the settings back to default.
If that does not help then you may wanna try doing a soft reset by keying in *#7370# when on standby - This will reformat the phone. DO NOT FORGET TO DO A BACK UP AS THIS WILL ERASE YOUR ENTIRE PHONE MEMORY.
The security code by default is 12345
If this fails as well then you may try doing the Hard reset by performing the 3 finger reset. You can do this by switching the phone on with the '3', '*' and green 'call' buttons pressed at the same time.

Snow Leopard Finder's Get Info fails to show Owner and Group for some files or folders which reside on a Shared Volume, hosted by G5 Server w/ OS 10.4 - why?

Frustrations with file permissions abound, as certain co workers are unable to manually determine their level of permission or who to ask to make changes to files and folders belonging to others. Users of Snow Leopard desktop OS get unhelpful feedback via Finder's Get Info, seeing only the permissions listed for "Everyone" and a statement that "You have custom access". The custom message exists, presumably, because ACL's are employed on the shared volume in an attempt to give managerial control over these volumes to specific users, even if all users can create files and folders on those volumes.
Shared volumes are partitions of an external RAID which are set up as sharepoints on a G5 tower running Server 10.4. Other persons in the office, using machines that are running desktop OS 10.5, can correctly see the assigned Owner and Group permissions (although the "custom access" still shows). This at least lets the 10.5 user know who created a given file or folder, so that they can resolve permissions-restricted issues if they come up (i.e. User A wants to delete file X, but as it was created by User B, A must contact B and have them delete it. In 10.6 it appears that A cannot determine who B is).
I know that ACL's are functioning (enabled on the drive) since we have been making use of ACL-granted write privileges for quite a while (and the custom access seems to be evidence too).
An error I encountered, pertaining to this, is that I used a 10.6 machine to create a working folder, then generated and saved several files in this location. Expected permissions thus would be Owner = me (i.e. the user I was logged in as), R/W, Group = staff, R only, Everyone = R only. However, immediately the permissions shown in Finder / Get Info consisted only of Everyone = R only, with no entry for Owner or Group. Moreover, clicking + to add either an Owner or a Group resulted in error message that I had entered an invalid user or group, even though I typed in correct info (such as trying to add "staff" as a group).

What do I do after Iphoto crashed and will not reload? I only get a black screen and a circle of rotating bars.

How do I bring up iPhoto after it seemed to crash while I was using it? All I get now is a black screen with a circle of rotating bars. I have closed it, and restarted after putting the machine to sleep and after shutting it off altogether; no luck. Everything else is working fine.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

I am unable to select the correct paper size when printing photo's in iPhoto 11. When I select the paper size in the custom window for 4x6 prints the prints only appear on an 8 1/2x11 page. My Mac is a year old iMac running 10.8.2.

I am unable to print 4x6 photo's using iPhoto 11. When I do they only print out on lettter size paper even though I enter 4x6 in the custom window in the print size menu. My older Snow Leopard system using iPhoto 9 the paper size window offered a 4x6 paper size which worked well.

Selecting paper size in the first sreen tellis iPhoto what papery you are going to use - it does not tell the printer what paper to use - printer specific options on on the last (second or third if you customize the print) screen where you tell the print any specifics like paper source (typically printers need to you tell them where a specific paper is loaded - they do not really know the sizes in each paper tray)

My iPad shows the apple logo for 5 seconds while charging then shuts off for 10 seconds then shows the apple logo for 5 seconds and so on. I can get it to the connect to iTunes screen but as soon as I unplug it from the wall it shuts off. Can anyone help?

Why is my Creative Cloud login screen showing a black window and nothing else?

After using the Creative Cloud installer and the download looking like it was working, what I presume is a login in window has launched but it's just a black window with a white logo at the top. There is nowhere to enter any information and the only button that works in the window is a cog icon which allows me to quit.

BodyBasics Example show a black window

I am currently trying out the samples in the Kinect for Windows Developer Toolkit v.2.0.0.0.
I cannot get Body Basics to work. When I run the program, I am shown a black blank window.
Audio Capture and Kinect Studio seem to work.
I am currently running Windows 8.1, updated my Nvidia graphics driver to the latest version, and have connected the Kinect v.2 sensor onto the USB 3.0 port.
What should I check next to diagnose the problem?

IPhoto 11, Black Thumbnail for all Faces

In iPhoto, when I go to Faces there is a black thumbnail for all faces. If I double click to go to the actual fotos of one of the faces (names), the thumbnails are also black, if I double click the actual individual foto then you can see the actual foto. I have reinstalled iPhoto but it still shows onlt Black thumbnails for all faces (names).
Please help.

haarrrrummmm... don't know why I'm not able to edit my own posts, but there you go...
Rebuilding is only rebuilding if you get a dialog box showing 4 options. If you don't see this, then you may not have options and cmd keys depressed correctly (long enough etc) at startup of iPhoto.
You should see a dialog box presenting four choices:
repair permissions,
repair thumbnails
repair database
rebuild database
(Doing this from my head so the order may be a bit different)
Anyhow, start with repairing permissions, then thumbnails.
Repairing thumbnails will take time, especially on bigger libraries. Allow the machine to finish the task.
Repairing and rebuilding database are the big guns here. Make backups before letting these loose.

IMovie starts but wont show the main window

I have been trying to figure out why iMovie will not start correctly. The system log is not very useful as it doesn't give me the name of the file archive that is incomprehensible:

iMovie doesn't terminate, it just fails to show the main window and there is no way from the menu/keyboard to show it. It still quits normally using COMMAND+Q/menu. I've removed iMovie preferences, removed iMovie and reinstalled, and even moved the projects folder. Still nada.
To dispel the common things; I have 4GB of memory and that disk has about 200GB left on the main drive.
Any help?
