IPhoto 9.1: Nothing Short of Perverse!

Such an absolutely stupid set of options of mailing pics from within the new iPhoto '11!
Anyway... Just one genuine problem (not just an annoyance):
When I set up the iPhoto mail program to utilize my existing e-mail server... after clicking "Send", the blue progress "Sending bar" proceeds to the end... and nothing more.
No further action... and the pics aren't sent!
Any help?

If you want to go back to somewhat the way it was in iPhoto 8 (09) there are two ways to do it:
1 - just drag the selected photos onto the Mail icon in the Dock. Select the file size to be sent at the bottom of the email window.
2 - create and use the Automator service application that is described by Terrence Devlin in this topic: iPhoto 11: A new way to use the old E-Mail behaviour.
The latter is just a menu selection instead of a button selection.

Wanting to use Photoshop CS6 to open images directly from iPhoto 11.
Using OSX10.8.2 and iPhoto 11.  Just installed Photoshop CS6 and want to open
images directly from iPhoto.    Before I installed PS I was not able to edit photos
in iPhoto 11.  Nothing happens when I click on ‘edit‘ it is blank.
And now it will not work using Photoshop CS6 either.
From Help Center I have gone to iPhoto/Preferences/ Advanced and chosen Photoshop CS6  to Edit Photos but then cannot find an 'Open' to click? Perhaps this is the problem?
When I select a photo in iPhoto and click the Edit button - nothing happens.
    Please advise. Glenys

This may be of help to you:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

    Hello All,
Also no answer but am having the same problem.  All my catalogueing via folders is up in smoke and no external HDs (where I would normally directly store raw footage when importing) showing up on the iMovie interface.  It is a pain the arse to go back to the earlier version - why APPLE, pray tell, do you continue to lower expectations user-friendly functions. Shall try the option+open for a library but this too is extremely inconvenient if it works like iPhoto because you have to log out to log in to a new library whereas I just want to be able to see my multiple HDs directly from the iMovie menu and then the folders within folders I have layered in there - to make it easy to FIND STUFF. Wake up Apple, you are NOT meeting your customer's needs or desires.
Thanks to the posters who are helping the rest of us lost in the dark with possible solutions - free fix-its for Apple which they don't deserve.

Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again.

My computer won't turn off.  It says iPhoto is doing something and iPhoto is doing nothing, the circle has been spinning for 45 minutes.

Try that. If that doesn't help:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Iphoto 09 displays nothing

After a transfer of Iphoto library (Ilife 06) from my G5, Iphoto09 does not display the whole picture when clicking on the miniature. The row of miniatures is displayed at the top of the screen, but the screen is black eslsewhere.
It seems that the picture appears during a very short time then disappears.
The face recognition does not work, probably because, when selecting a miniature, nothing appears.
    Help please

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

  • IPhone stopped loading photos from iPhoto, changed albums, nothing.

For years I kept an album in iPhoto of photos to sync onto my iPhone. Now that album is empty. Made a new album with same photos and tried to sync that-nothing. I think it's a glitch in the new iTunes, which I still can't get to stop shuffling. So I have no photos on my phone except new shots which I always keep in iPhoto and delete from the phone. What gives?

I am synching photos from Aperture. The photos are on an external hard drive but it is connected to my computer (G5) via firewire not wireless. iPhoto worked as well but most of my photos are accessible via Aperture.

  • UGH! Next issue, import from iPhoto 9 does nothing

So I finally got aperture 3 working and the app loads. So I want to import my iPhoto Libarary in.
I go through the import menu, select keep the files in current location.
I click OK, and the window goes away and nothing happens.
I took a look at the system, Aperture is only using about .1% CPU, so it doesn't seem like its actually trying, but it seems like if it failed it did so silently.
    SUGGESTIONS?

You're using *File->Import->iPhoto Library* ? A few of your statements in your post make me wonder.
The pulldown for master file location is labeled *Store Files:* and the button to get it going is labeled import.
Sounds like you might be trying to import the iPhoto library as folders off the HDD.

Restore your backup - obviously no one here has any idea where anything on your computer is located - by default the iPhoto library is int he pictures folder
You can see all available iPhoto libnraries by depressing and holding the option key and launching iPhoto - the select library window will show all available libraries

  • IPhoto import does nothing

I have the the following issue with Aperture 1.5 Trial (2811) and iPhoto 6.0.5 (316). When I try to import my iPhoto library from Aperture, it asks where my iPhoto library is, I click Choose and ... it does nothing.
I am trying to import referencing the files in their current location.
    Any ideas?

    I have started my import.
The problem turned out to be this:
    - my AlbumData.xml file -- part of the iPhoto library package -- was corrupt
    - iPhoto had good enough XML parsing (at least for its own special flavour of XML) to make do with the corruption
    - Aperture and other external systems could not
    The solution was gleaned from
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1948414&#1948414
and the wonderful iPhoto Library Manager (see http://www.iphotolibrarymanager.com/iPhotoLibraryManager.dmg).
This program helped open up my library and see roughly where it was corrupted. I edited it and found a good deal of non-matching <key> </key> pairs in the List of Keywords (from iPhotoLibraryManager help, apparently a frequent occurence). I tried a number of things and eventually just edited the file myself and re-saved it. iPLM opened it up just fine which was the first good sign. Aperture then started itself and is humming away in the background.
    Wa-hoo! I'm going to bed.
    Cheers
    Robin

  • When i click on my iPhoto icon absolutely nothing happens

    I have an iMac27-inch mid 2011.
Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
    Processore 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    I am running OS X Yosemite 10.0
I am not sure what iPhoto I have.
But when I click on the iPhoto icon nothing happens.  It will not open it does not show an error message.
I have restarted the computer but that did not help.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Try to launch iPhoto. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Basic. i connected my camera for download to iphoto as usual. this time nothing happens. iphoto doesnt open and no download begins. i opened iphoto and still nothing. what happened?

Normally when i connect my camera to the computer, iphoto opens up and a download begins immediately.  This time, nothing opens.  Not iphotos, or kodak.  I opened iphoto to see if that would start things but nothing.  What do i do?

Try image capture (in your applications folder)
Does your camera mount to the desktop - drag your photos to a desktop folder
once you get the photos off of the camera use the camera's format command to erase them and renew the memory format - in the future do not let iPhoto (or any other program) delete your photos - always properly disconnect and later (I prefer after at least one backup cycle) use the camera to format the memory

  • Photo books I had on iPhoto just vanished , nothing in show

I had some Books in the products section in IPhoto and they have vanished, anywhere they may be, I've looked in Trash. Have a Mac Book pro.

Found the solution myself. I save answers to questions from these forums and found what I needed in a post from 2006 - pictures folder>iPhoto Library. One click and everything was back where it should be.

  • No window, nothing, on iPhoto launch

On launching iPhoto I get nothing. It appears to load, but no iPhoto window. Nearly all menus grayed out - not even quit, so have to Force Quit.
Tried rebooting, reinstalling iPhoto. I suspect corruption of some file in iPhoto Library that is stalling its opening - but no idea what I should be looking for.
Any help appreciated as I am unable to access any images at moment.
(Always open to possibility I may have overlooked something simple.)
