IPhoto 9.2.1 update - no RAW files

This problem is on my husband's MacBook Pro running 10.6.8.  Prior to the 9.2.1 update he had uploaded quite a few RAW (NEF) files from his Nikon D90 and they worked fine.  After the update, the thumbnails are there, but they cannot be opened to view full size.  He gets a black screen with an exclamation mark !
He updated the library upon starting the updated iPhoto and also has rebuilt the library.  Any other suggestions?  We have a good backup in Time Machine of both the old iPhoto program and his library.
Thanks!

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Updated Camera Raw File for CS2 / Canon Powershot G10

I am still using Photoshop CS2, but unfortunately I need the updated Camera Raw file (v5.6) for use with the Canon Powershot G10, and it appears the unless I upgrade to CS4 I won't be able to view any RAW files shot with this camera.
Is there an updated Camera Raw version for the Powershot G10 that is still supported under CS2?
    Thanks!

ACR 5.4 was released last night and it requires CS4.  That is the latest and current version of Camera Raw.
5.6 probably won't appear until next year.
If you download the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 5.4, you can convert the raw files from your camera to raw DNG files you can then open in ACR 3.7 hosted by CS2.

  • IPhoto 9.6 hangs when importing raw files.

since upgrading to Yosemite and upgrading iPhoto my macbook pro hangs every time I try to import photos from an SD card. I can import one or two but if I try to import new photos ~300 photos then the kernel task memory usage shoots up to use 95% or more of memory and then it starts running extremely slow and the memory pressure jumps between yellow and red. If I kill iPhoto the kernel task doesn't release the  memory.
I have tried uninstalling iPhoto and and restoring and rebuilding the iPhoto library but to no avail at this point.
Anybody have any other ideas or know if there is a bug with iPhoto 9.6 processing raw files?

  • Can't update camera raw file in photoshop cs5

I have Adobe Photoshop CS5, version 12.0.4.  I am trying to open camera raw files ending in ARW (Hasselblad Stellar Camera) and PhotoShop tells me there are no updates available.  I have downloaded the mac os file (using Yosemite, latest version) and get the message the installation was successful, however, PhotoShop still shows that the Camera Raw Version is still 6.0.0.205.  I can view the ARW files in finder, however when I try to open the file in PhotoShop CS5 I get this message:
Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw.
Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional information.

you can update ps cs5 to cr 6.7
update by downloading the files directly and then applying them:
    pre cc updates:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
i'm not sure which camera you have but the hassleblad stellar II needs cr 8.8 or better.
your options (if that's your camera) are to upgrade ps or to use the dng converter.

  • Updates for raw files from Nikon D5000 on a photoshop elements 7 /windows 7 system

I have photoshop elements 7 but it won't open raw files from a nikon D5000 although I've followed the links and updated. It still says it won't open because it's the wrong type of file..I've downloaded a DNG converter but still nothing is happening.

You download and installed the camera raw 5.6 plugin, by following install directions on the following page?
Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Windows : Camera Raw 5.6 update
If you have a windows 7 64 bit system, then the Camera Raw.8bi plugin goes in
Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats
(the path adobe gives is for a 32 bit windows system)
Also, use the Camera Raw.8bi outside the folder named Win64

  • IPhoto '08 - Does it "touch" referenced RAW files?

    Hello,
I'm starting with a fresh, new iPhoto '08 Library to handle my RAW images. Since my RAW photos are organized on an external HD by date/location (of shoot) I've decided to NOT allow iPhoto to "manage" the library (ie. turned off the option for iPhoto to copy images into the iPhoto Library via Preferences/Advanced). My question — because iPhoto is not managing the Library and only referencing the RAW images on the external drive, is there any risk of iPhoto doing anything to these RAW images?
Basically, this external library that I have being "referenced" by iPhoto contains over 4 years worth of shoots, all RAW. This drive is then backed up nightly to another external drive and then backed up again monthly to another drive for off-site storage. I just want to be sure iPhoto doesn't "touch" these RAW files when not copying to the iPhoto Library.
Anyone have any info on this?
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

    Doesn't touch them.

  • When will there be an update for RAW files from the new Olympus OM-D E-M10 for Lightroom 4?

    Hello there,
when will there be an update for Lightroom 4 which provides the option to import RAW-files from the Olympus OM-D E-M10 directly into LR4?

Lightroom 5.0 came out in June 2013 with a public beta for LR5 available at Adobe Labs back in April 2013.  It seems you may have been unlucky purchasing the old version just before the new version came out, or perhaps LR5 required a minimum OS level your computer didn’t have.
Purchasing a new version every year isn’t necessary, but you do have to buy a new version whenever you buy an unsupported camera.
Adobe employees need to get paid just like the rest of us, and their releasing a new payfor version every so often is how they get paid.
Never mind that the new version has improvements beyond new camera support, so there was a full development-release-training-marketing effort behind it.
The upgrade price is cheaper than the full purchase price and if you want Photoshop capabilities, there is a LR+PS Photographer’s Bundle that is half the price of purchasing Photoshop, itself:

  • IPhoto won't import Nikon D70 raw files after upgrade to Leopard

I recently upgraded to Leopard, and yesterday, I hooked my Nikon D70 up to the computer. iPhoto auto starts, and tells me that there are pictures to import. When I click the import button, iPhoto tells me that it is importing the photos, (which are in Nikon raw format) but in fact, it is not. The photos don't "flash" across the screen as they are being imported as they used to. When iPhoto thinks it is done, there are no new photos on my hard drive. A spotlight search confirms that fact.
Jpeg photos still import just like they used to. Only raw photos don't import.
If I manually open iPhoto, and click on file then import, I can find my cameras CF card, and highlight the photos I want to import, and iPhoto will then import raw photos. It won't import them with the simple attach the camera, one click import that I have grown used to. My D70 is a supported camera for iPhoto, and it used to work in OSX 10.4. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?
Thanks in advance for any help offered.

I had the same prob with my mac and my D70.
I did an upgrade to leopard from tiger. After that, iPhoto would not import photos. The camera and pics would show up in the app, and would let me try an import, but it would come up with an error saying "20 photos were in an incompatible format and could not be imported".
Since upgrading to Leopard, image capture wouldn't work either. App would run and then wouldn't. Would crash and error. Wouldn't import photos at all either.
I was able to manually drag photos from my camera to the desktop and then import into iPhoto.
iPhoto wasn't the only thing playing up on my mac (networking, file permissions, backlit keyboard, software update, ffmpeg app were all problematic), so I backed up everything I wanted to keep to an external drive and did an erase and install of Leopard. This has fixed practically every problem I had. Do the same if you can, cos it has made my mac a pleasure to use again.

  • I have iphoto '08 version with an imac osx 10.5.8. It will not read my RAW files  from my Nikon D800 - a very new model. How can I get it to read my RAW files?

my somewhat old imac osx 10.5.8 with iphoto '08 will not read my RAW files from my new Nikon D800 camera - a new model on the market( 5 months or so). How can I get iphoto to read my RAW  files?

iPhoto 08 would not read RAW files from that new a camera. You need to upgrade so you can get more up-to-date version of OS X and iPhoto. Another possiblity is see if iPhoto 11 will run on 10.5.8, if so you should update. You can also attempt to run Software Update and see if it finds a newer release of iPhoto 08 that supports newer RAW formats.

  • IPhoto does not recognise the raw files(.NRW) from my new Nikon camera model P7100,any advice please as running latest version of iPhoto(9.2.1)

Since changing my little everyday camera to a new Nikon Coolpix P7100 iPhoto cannot import any of the raw files(.NRW),says it does not recognise them.
I have updated iPhoto to the latest version(9.2.1) but still cannot open them.
    Any ideas please

The raw from the P7100 is not supported at this time.
The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Therefore the Raw for every camera model needs to be added individually. If yours is not supported then let them know you want it:
iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback

  • Workflow with RAW files iPhoto iOS

I shoot in Nikon RAW (.nef) and want to use my camera connection kit and new iPad to do a first pass on editing/deleting photos before I pass them to my Mac. I tried shooting a few photos in raw and then edited them but when I sent them via the "Send to iTunes" feature in iOS iPhoto they only sent a small JPG version of the photo. What I like to happen is the RAW file sent with editted embeded JPG. What process/workflow should I take so I don't get a bunch of duplicates (RAW + JPG) files?
Any best practice appreciated. I find that using iPhoto iOS is a more intuitive approach to first pass editing/deleting sort of like a cutting board.
    Thanks.

iPhoto for iOS does not edit RAW files. When it encounters a RAW file iPhoto for iOS works only with the embedded jpg. If you only shoot RAW the embedded jog is a very small file.
My suggestion is to keep your photos on your camera's card. You an copy them to you iPad for a look see and decide which you might not want to keep but I'd do all my editing on the Mac side for those RAW files.

  • Raw files in iPhoto

I see several discussions on this, and TD your responses have helped me a bit. I am still a little confused.
What I want to do is continue to use iPhoto, and edit in iPhoto sometimes, but I want my raw files saved as raw files so I can open them in PSE and edit there.
How do I get the raw data out of iPhoto and into PSE? I usually have to move the photo to the desktop to get PSE to see it, but iPhoto saves the files as jpegs.
WIll my life be easier if I cave in and get aperture or lightroom?

If you want to use Elements with a Raw then you need to tell iPhoto that you want to send the Raw to  Elements.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced, elect to use Raw with your External editor:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
Now when you go to edit the Raw it will be sent to your external editor.
    But...
You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file.
This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots.
Using Elements to process Raw if you use Aperture or Lightroom makes little sense as both of those apps are designed to specifically process Raw anyway.

  • I have just started shooting Raw.  Why IPhoto doesn't read my RAW files?

    I have a Mac OS X - 10.6.8.  Processor 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.  Memory 4Go 1067 MHz DDR3.  IPhoto '09.
I have started shooting RAW and IPhoto doesn't read my the RAW files?

Lightroom 1.4.1 does not support native (NEF) files from the D700 because the camera didn't even exist when it was released. To get support you have two options: upgrade to Lr 2.x (paid for upgrade) or convert your NEF files to DNG.
DNG converter 5.4 can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/ (see right hand side of page)

  • Unable to import RAW files from my 400D, (XTi) Even if its a supported cam

    Hi,
I have been unable to upload RAW files from my Canon XTi, a.k.a. 400D. I know this camera is supported and I am running Mac OS X 10.4.8 on an Intel Core Duo Mac Book.
iPhoto had no issues with my previous Canon 350D raw files, yet its not working with the 400D. Is very likely a matter of installing an update, yet when i tried to install the ppl version it stated that this was not to be installed on this system. Would there be an update specific for Intel based machines to support the 400d?
Has anyone experienced this same issue that would like to share in their resolution? This would definetively be appreciated.
Happy Holidays and may you get the PS3 or something cool like that.

    Dendrite
You need the Universal version of that update the ppc version won't work on your intel based machine:

"This update improves RAW file format compatibility for the following digital SLR cameras:
