Iphoto 9.2 : keywords display?

I lost ALL of my titles and keywords in this upgrade. GRR. I am attempting to add back keywords but, when I do, they do not display. Yes, I have Keywords checked under the Views menu. If I hover over the area the ratings stars appear in a ghost-y way, but no keywords.
Anyone know?
Thanks in advance!

If you have lost this data then the obvious - and quick - fix is to restore from the back up you made before upgrading.
However, since the release of iPhoto 11 there has been no way to display keywords under the photos in the iPhoto Window at all, so you need to look for them in the Info Pane.

  • IPhoto not importing keywords

I use Nikon ViewNX for pulling files off of my Nikon DSLRs, iPhone and point&shoot cameras. Then I cull, sort and keyword the files. I then import the files into iPhoto. For some reason, the keywords do not come with the files from the Nikon cameras (RAW and jpeg on D200 & D800). The keywords seem to stick with the iPhone and point&shoot files. Interestingly, I can see the keywords using Finders Info pane, but iPhoto seems to strip them off. Can't see the keywords with Aperture either. Am I missing a setting somewhere?  Thanks.

Add keywords to a couple of photos with the ViewNX app and then open them with Preview.  Bring up the Info window for that image (type Command+i in Preview) and click the the IPTC button:
If the keywords show up there then iPhoto should be able to read and display them  If they don't then the ViewNX is not writing the keywords to the correct field so iPhoto an read them.

  • IPhoto error message, wont display on my iMac G4 iPhoto4.0.3

I took a Pro Care lesson today so that I could transfer pictures I had placed on my wife's lap-top iBook to my iMac. It was told to burn the photos to a disc and run the disc on my iMac. Unfortunately my computer had an older version of iPhoto. The disc would not run on my machine and an error note appeared stating that I needed to get a newer version of iPhoto. Now I cannot even display my library and an error message appears saying that since I changed something (the only change was trying to run the disc) I would now need a newer version of iPhoto to display my library. Is there any way to go back to my library and any other way to transfer the pictures on my wife's machine to mine?

    Marvw,
Remove the disc from your iMac. Quit iPhoto. In Finder, look in Home/ Library/ Preferences for a file called com.apple.iPhoto.plist. Move it to your trash. Launch iPhoto. Does your library open normally?
If so, skip this paragraph. If not, close iPhoto. Hold down the Shift and Option keys while launching iPhoto. Do not release until you can confirm the intent to rebuild. Click "yes," then wait for it to work. Does your library open after the rebuild?
If not, you'll have to do a manual rebuild. Do you have a backup of your library?
That error message often comes up when trying to import with a disc in your disc drive. What you can do is leave iPhoto closed and copy the disc to the desktop on your hard drive. Then remove the disc from the disc drive. iPhoto is not forward compatible, so your older version can't read the library created by the newer version. You will have to take your wife's pictures from the library and import them into your library. Her Albums, keywords, titles, and other metadata will not transfer to your library. Do not import items inside the folder called "Thumbs" or "Thumbnails" because they are smaller versions of photos in her library.
Since you want your wife's photos in your older iPhoto library, there is an easier way to make the disc. On her iBook, select all the photos in her library. Then Export them to a folder on her desktop. Use the Finder to burn that folder of photos to the disc. This will give you just the full-sized, edited (if there is an edited version) photos from her library. You can then import them to your iMac's library. If iPhoto won't import directly from the disc, copy it to your desktop, remove the disc, and import from that folder.
Post back with results, and we'll go from there.

  • IPhoto 9.3 - keywords issue

I'm having an issue where keywords input to the keywords section of the info panel by manual typing immediately disappear.
When I noticed this, I attempted going to the next photo and returning which did not work.
I also, tried quitting and restarting iPhoto which results in the keywords I've typed that disappeared immediately now being visible...so it is holding the keywords, just having an issue with displaying them until an application restart.
Next, I made a duplicate of my library using the Rebuild Library command in iPhoto Library Manager 3.8...this seemed to solve the problem for all of about 5 minutes...after a few clicks, it went right back to the same issues.
Now I'm discovering different behavior after an application restart.  At first, it will work properly, then will not even let me input any text (not even a character) into the keywords section of the info panel.  I can still use the keyword manager to input keywords, but I much prefer to type them.
I first noticed this issue when I was inputing keywords, while accessing my Mac from another Mac using Screen Sharing.
This was also the first time I've used iPhoto since updating to 9.3, so I'm wondering if it's a 9.3 bug.
Once my latest Time Machine backup is complete I was thinking about uninstalling/reinstalling iPhoto to see how that works using the method I found here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3716732?start=0&tstart=0
I'm very concerned about losing all the rich metadata I've input to iPhoto.
Any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated.

I'm having the same problem, with 9.3, but had it with previous version sometimes also.  Sometimes the keyword "sticks", sometimes it doesn't.  Now most of the time it doesn't.  Similar problem with names from time to time.

  • IPhoto 9.2.1 displaying wrong time on photo after changing back from daylight savings time

Europe went back to standard time (from daylight savings time) on Sunday morning, Oct. 30.  In my Nikon D7000 I changed the time accordingly by retaining the time zone (UTC+1) but switching Daylight Savings to OFF.  The times on the photos display correctly in the camera and in Finder.  They also display correctly in EXIF-O-Matic.  In iPhoto 9.2.1, however, they display with one hour added.  Has anybody else encountered this problem?
Just tried to reproduce the error but could not.  Without changing any of the time zone settings I shot a photo and imported it into iPhoto.  The time in iPhoto is now correct.  I am absolutely sure that I set Daylight Savings to OFF in the camera before taking any photos on Oct. 30.  Perhaps the problem has to do with importing on Oct. 30, the day of the change?
    Regards,
    Richard

You should not be importing that Library.
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
You simply restore the Library from Time Machine and then open it.

  • Keywords displaying and using

    Hi
I have two questions on using keywords:
    1) how do I make the keywords pane stay on screen? If I move from one event to the another when adding keywords I lose the keyword pane and have to do command k to get it back. Very frustrating when trying to organise a lot of photos
    2) once I have set a keyword to a photo is there a way of displaying that keyword under the actual photo rather than only in the keywords pane and the info sidebar? I used to be able to do that in adobe elements on my old PC and that made it much easier to look at a screen of photos and see which had been key worded and the keyword is.
    Many thanks

    No and No.

  • Images not displaying at their normal size, and not all keywords displaying, why?

Not sure what's going on inside Adobe Bridge CC 2014.1, but why is it that my images are not displaying at full size. Bridge says they're displaying at 100% but I know that's not the case, because when I open the same images in Mac OS Preview (OS 10.10.1 Yosemite) at 100% they're much bigger. Is there a viewing preference setting I'm missing?
Also, I use Bridge and Photoshop on two mac pro desktops: one at my office and one at home.
At work, I created more than 30 keywords in Bridge for several hundred images that reside on my external thunderbolt hard drive. But when I take that hard drive home and connected it to my home mac and then open Bridge, only a handful of keywords appear. I don't see the full list of keywords that I created at work. But in Bridge, I didn't see any option to save or export keywords as a file.
Although the image metadata does appear, because whatever keyword i assigned to an image at work does display on the home mac, I just don't see the entire keyword list.
Can or should Bridge therefore only be used on one computer? Is it not possible to transfer the entire Bridge keyword list from one mac to another?
Thanks in advance for any help feedback with this.

    Hi Zenos,
I've discovered what is causing the problem, but I still need a way to fix it, if possible.
The cause of the problem is that in Windows 7 Control Panel > Display I have set the size of "text and other items" to 150% (otherwise everything is much too small too read on my screen's recommended resolution of 1920×1080).
I discovered that Irfan Viewer was also displaying at the incorrect resolution, but I managed to solve that problem by right-clicking on the IrfanView.exe icon and following Properties > Compatibility and selecting "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings".
I tried the same procedure with Thunderbird, but it made no difference. It is still displaying at the incorrect resolution.
    Any suggestions?

  • Half the iphoto library won't display

I am using iphoto 2.0.1 the library is on an external hard drive (200gig) and all the pictures are in their folders. However I just went to look at pictures using iphoto and pictured downloaded between march 3 and today do not show. There are data files, thumbnail files and the year:month:day files with the correct jpeg files in them. How do I display these pictures (around 1000). As you can see I my computer is old and I am forcing 10.2.8 on it but until today everything was fine except the speed. There are 2 cards installed that support firewire 400 and usb 1.

Start iPhoto while holding the shift+option keys. Don't release them until you're prompted to confirm the intent to rebuild. Click "Yes", then click "Save".

  • Vertical images are fine in iPhoto, but don't display properly in aperture.

Hello everyone, i have an old project around 1000 pictures and all the images show properly in iPhoto. I have a shared library with aperture and when i open that project in aperture , all the vertical images seems to be destroyed as soon as i double click on them. It looks like an half downloaded jpg. None of the Previsualisation or the full screen display are correct. What's wrong ?

I had already tried it and it doesn't work "the selected element has been modified in iphoto and cannot be updated" (L’élément sélectionné a été modifié en externe dans iPhoto et ne peut être mis à jour.)
here are screencaps to show you what it looks like.
So everything is normal in iphoto, then I double click on an image in aperture and this happens, then the thumbnails are destroyed, and then in iphoto it is also destroyed.

  • Iphoto 6 doesn't display my photos!

I had lots of photos in iphoto on my 3 year old powerbook, and then I got a MacBook Pro and moved all my data over the the new computer using the built in function to do that. But now my old photos don't display in iphoto 6. Instead, there are only empty frames for them. What to do???

    randallk
This could be a file permissions issue:
    Download BatchMod from
    http://macchampion.com/arbysoft/
And apply it to the iPhoto Library Folder using the settings found here:

  • PS Album to iPhoto importing -- keeping keywords?

I have decided to move from PC to mac and I am trying to move a couple of hundred photos from Adobe Album on my old PC to iPhoto on the mac. All of my photos had keyword/tags in Album. Is there a way to transfer these keywords to iPhoto?
I was planning on using a backup of my Adobe album to move the files but now I am wondering if there is a better way. I would appreciate any info you can send my way. Thanks!

I tried to drag the entire album, buy it opens, and only shows part of the pictures that are in that album in iPhoto. It appears that iMovie media can only see the jpeg pictures, not the ones that I saved in photoshop format. Thank you.

  • IPhoto library won't display, "Loading Photos" endlessly

Iphoto won't display the library, it shows the loading photos graphic endlessly. Tried deleting all relevant metadata (files in iphoto library folder and library>preferences) and repairing disk permissions, to no effect. Did not move or rename iphoto.app.
Please suggest fikes for this issue and/or alternatives to iphoto.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Tried deleting all relevant metadata (files in iphoto library folder and library>preferences)
What files did you delete in the iPhoto Library Folder, exactly?
Did not move or rename iphoto.app.
Good to know, but the warning about moving/renaming does not refer to iPhoto.app but to the library:
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.

  • IPhoto 6.06 stopped displaying full screen images

Using my four day old mac and iPhoto suddenly developed a problem: when I try to play a slideshow instead of the images appearing on the screen full size (which they did perfectly), I get a gray screen with a dashed box that has a "?" in it. Same photos that were used two days ago are NG. Also, I can see the thumbnails in the various libraries OK, but if I try to enlarge beyond about 2" by 3" with the slider, same thing (gray screen with dashed box)
I did get a prompt that the thumbnails were being rebuilt. How do I fix this?
    Thanks

If you made changes in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder you have two choices:
    1. Return things to the way they were
    or
    2. If you cannot do this then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
    Some FYI
It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss
Rolls in the iPhoto Window correspond exactly with the Roll Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library Folder. You can move photos between Rolls, you can rename rolls, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Roll Name using the Info Pane, the Roll Folder in iPhoto Library Folder/Originals will also have the new name.
It is not recommended that you access pics in the iPhoto Library Folder except through the iPhoto Window. There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
