IPhoto 9.3.1 hangs upgrading database

I recently upgraded to Lion, and as part of that process, needed to upgrade my iPhoto and iPhoto database to iPhoto 11.
However, the upgrade hangs - the progress bar proceeds through to the finish, but after it goes away, iPhoto hangs, with very low CPU usage, and never comes back (even after hours).
I initially tried this with iPhoto 9.3. No go. When 9.3.1 came out, I tried that (on a saved copy of my pre-upgrade iPhoto database), with no change - still hangs, same behavior.
One of the fixes in 9.3.1 was to hangs while upgrading the iPhoto database, but obviously doesn't fix the problem I'm having.
Any suggestions on how to proceed with this?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto 6.0.4 hangs/crashes

    I cannot construct a web page, edit a photo, double-click on a thumbnail, layout a calendar, or make an iPhoto book without it hanging mid-process. Oddly enough, if I change to full screen mode, I can view any photo and even edit it.
    I have reinstalled the program from the iLife disk then upgraded, rebuilt the library, imported the orginals again, deleted the plist, and run Batchmod--not necessarily in that order.
    Is anybody else struggling with 6.0.4?

    Philip & sadcaper :
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. To rule out any messed up permissions download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
    Also run OnyX to clean out the user caches and run the cron maintenance scripts.
    Do you Twango?

    Just upgraded and iPhoto said it has to upgrade library but keeps freezing. Have tried it too many times now and I need those photos ASAP  HELP!!

    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:

  • IPhoto (9.4.2) hangs on exit

    iPhoto (9.4.2) hangs after closing on Late 2009 iMac running Mountain Lion (10.8.2). There is plenty of disk space and I have lots of memory. I have repaired the database several times but it doesn't work. The database is large (350+ GB). Any helpful suggestions will be appreciated.

    I have a late 2009 iMac, Intel Core i5 2.66 GHz, 1TB HDD, 12GB memory (original was 4 GB I added 8 GB).
    I tried after performing every option.
    Sometimes after I do a repair/rebuild it will work but not for long. I have been noticing a significant amount of disk activity while it is open. I can imagine that it might be working legitimately in the background. If it does end properly when I close, it takes a while to do so (+/- 2 minutes). Eventually it doesn't close at all and at over an hour I force it to close.
    I think I have an overall software problem with my computer. AHT and the Disk Utility does not return any problems. Now I am considering doing a clean install of the original OSX that came with my computer (Snow Leopard) and I hope that I can retrieve all the stuff I need from my Time Machine backups And in case you are wondering, I have tried just re-installing the OSX too but that doesn't seem to fix it either.
    This may have all started from a faulty hard drive that was recently recalled (and since then replaced) by Apple.

  • IPhoto will not open since upgrading to OSX 10.8

    Hi, has anyone come across this since upgrading to Mountain Lion. iPhoto will not open and I get the below error message. I was previously on OSX 10.6 with all updates applied to the OS. I upgrade the iPhoto app under iLife 11 on OSX 10.6 and it worked fine. Since I upgrade to the new Mountain Lion OS, iPhoto will not open. I tried to rebuild the library using the command and option (alt) key but it will not give me the option to rebuild. Should I attempt to delete the application and reinstall?  Any assistance would be gratefully received. Many thanks.

    I tried that Terence but keep getting the same message. Firstly, after reinstalling iPhoto, it requires me to upgrade via the App store, and then I get the below message. The odd thing is that my iphoto version is 9.2 whilst the upgrade from the App store refers to version 9.1. The version line item per the below message appears to have changed from the initial message in my first posting here.

  • Few questions about upgrading database

    Hi everyone,
    greetings of the day
    I have few questions about the upgrading database,
    In export and import mode
    1.can we have new name for the target database,
    2.I think we need to create tablespaces ,do we need to create users as well
    3.If we are upgrading from 9i to 10g database ,any activity to be perfromed other than creating a new sysaux tablespace
    4.How come we get consistent export
    In DBUA mode ( in the same machine only)
    1.Do we need shutdown / startup restrict the database
    2.How can we move the files to the new location
    3.Can we change db_name of the database
    4.Can we use the old database as well
    In manual upgration using catupgrd scripts
    1.Can we rename the db_name
    2.can we use old database as well
    3.how to move the database files to the new location
    4.can we perform this kind of upgrade on a different server
    5.when we startup upgrade in the new home ,how it identifies the old database in-order to upgrade the old one

    Pl post details of source and target database versions, along with your OS details.
    I have few questions about the upgrading database,
    In export and import mode
    1.can we have new name for the target database,Yes.
    2.I think we need to create tablespaces ,do we need to create users as wellYou can create users, but it is not necessary. You need to pre-create tablespaces only if their characteristics/locations on the target are different than on the source.
    3.If we are upgrading from 9i to 10g database ,any activity to be perfromed other than thisNot that I am aware of - see the steps in the Upgrade Guide - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14238/expimp.htm
    4.How come we get consistent export wetherEnsure the database is started in restricted mode, so users will not be able to access the database during the export.
    >
    In DBUA mode ( in the same machine only)
    1.Do we need shutdown / startup restrict the databaseNo - DBUA will do this automatically for you.
    2.How can we move the files to the new locationYou can after the upgrade move the datafiles to wherever you want - use the ALTER DATABASE RENAME DATAFILE (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_1004.htm#i2082829) command.
    3.Can we change db_name of the databaseI do not believe this is possible with DBUA.
    4.Can we use the old database as wellNo - the database will be upgraded by DBUA - there is no "old" database.

    1.Can we rename the db_nameYes.
    2.can we use old database as wellNo - the scripts will upgrade the database - there is no "old" database.
    3.how to move the database files to the new locationSee above.
    4.can we perform this kind of upgrade on a different serverPl elaborate on what you mean by this. You can copy the existing database to a different server (assuming compatible OS) and upgrade it there.

  • Best Method To Upgrade Database From 8.0.5.2.6 to 9.2.0.5

    I have the following:
    Oracle 8 (8.0.5.2.6) Database running on a machine with Windows NT
    And I want to accomplish the following:
    Upgrade database to Oracle 9i (9.2.0.5) on a new machine running Windows Server 2003.
    I am looking for advice on the best method to accomplish this considering that I am changing three variables: 1)the database version, 2)the operating system, and 3)the physical location of the database.
    Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can provide.
    Jason

    It depends upon how you want to do the export and import. Whether a full database export or just the schema containing the data, etc. based on that you will have to create the 10g database and perform the import. Below are some relevant documents:

    I have a new downloaded OS X now my Iphoto version 8.2 needs upgrading I downloaded 9.3 but I cant use it as I need a minimum of 9.1 how do I do this ?

    You can purchase the newest version of iPhoto on the Mac app store. Cost (in US dollars) is $14.99.
    It sounds like you downloaded an iPhoto update to take version 9.1 up to 9.3. You can't use it with version 8.x.
    Best of luck.

    Is your Apple Intel-based, poppelmacbook?  If not, you should consider treating yourself to a new Mac. Last December I gave up my old because it just could not update...anything because it was not Intel-based.  Updating everything on this OS to 10.9 has been confusing for me, but I just could not work with that old Mac because the updates were too smart? for my 10.6.  It is upstairs now...for visiting family:  games, garage band, etc.--things I never did use.  Apple refurbished and purchase the extended warranty.  Apple loyalist since late 1980's.

  • IPhoto is extremely slow after upgrading to OSX Maveric

    Has anyone noticed that iPhoto is extremely slow after upgrading to OSX Maverick

    I've noticed that it isn't.
    There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
    Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Upgrade database from 10.0.2 to 11.2.0.2 .

    I want to upgrade database from 10.0.2 to 11.2.0.2 . Can i go for direct upgrade?
    Or i need to apply the patch bring the database to 10.2.0.2 and then upgrade to 11.2.0.2.
    Please suggest me on this ...

    Are you sure about that minor release number? Possibly 10.1? Release 10.2.0.2 is the minimum R2 version that can be upgraded directly to 11gR2, if its 10.1, that requires 10.1.0.5 or higher.
    The upgrade forum may offer better help, see Database Upgrade

  • "the iPhoto library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto." WHAT?

    Ran software update a few weeks back and now I cannot seem to open iPhoto or access files within.
    The error message as soon as I open up iPhoto reads: "the iPhoto library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto."
    What do I do to overcome this?  What happens to the files in "UPGRADE?"
    Should I be worried about the safety of the files during upgrade?

    Yes - you should always be worried about yoru files if they are important to you - never upgrade without backingup just in case (the normal case is no problem but you must be prepared)

  • Upgrade Database from 10.2.0.5.0 to 11.2.0.3.0 in Silent Mode

    Hello there,
    Previously, I had posted a thread on how to upgrade database from 10.2.0.5.0 to 11.2.0.3.0 through the wizards provided (GUI-based) and had successfully upgraded the database. Now, I am attempting to upgrade the database from 10.2.0.5.0 to 11.2.0.3.0 once more but this time, in silent mode (console-based). Unfortunately, I am lack of knowledge regarding the installation of the software and upgrading the database in silent mode.
    I managed to figure out this much so far:
    1 . Traverse through the installation directory to the directory shown below:
           11.2.0.3 > Extracted > database > response
    2 . Fill up the blanks of db_install.rsp file:
           oracle.install.option=INSTALL_DB_SWONLY
           SELECTED_LANGUAGES=en
           ORACLE_HOME=C:\Oracle\11g\DBSwLoc
           ORACLE_BASE=C:\Oracle\11g
           oracle.install.db.InstallEdition=EE
           oracle.install.db.EEOptionsSelection=false
           oracle.install.db.isRACOneInstall=false
           oracle.install.db.config.starterdb.memoryOption=true
           oracle.install.db.config.starterdb.installExampleSchemas=false
           oracle.install.db.config.starterdb.enableSecuritySettings=true
           oracle.install.db.config.starterdb.control=DB_CONTROL
           oracle.install.db.config.starterdb.automatedBackup.enable=false
           oracle.installer.autoupdates.option=SKIP_UPDATES
    3 . Save new db_install.rsp file to a new location (shorter path name without spacing will be best recommended)
    4 . Traverse through the installation directory to where the setup file is located.
    5 . Execute the following command:
           setup.exe -silent -waitforcompletion -responseFile C:\db_install_updated.rspThe result I received is as shown below:
    Starting Oracle Universal Installer...
    Preparing to launch Oracle Universal Installer from C:\Users\...\Temp\OraInstall2012-12-13_03-16-43PM.  Please wait ... [WARNING] - My Oracle Support Username/Email Address Not Specified
    [SEVERE] - Provide the My Oracle Support password.
