Just got off the phone with apple support.  If the photo book completes the assembly process but fails during the upload process the problem is in their overloaded servers. They just started a free shipping promotion for the holidays which has increased the traffic dramatically. I bought a calendar a week ago and it went right through. I'm going to try again during less peak times.
    Happy Holidays

When I print a 4x6 color picture using an iMac with the latest operating system using a Canon MX892 printer, faint black lines appear every 3/16 of an inch. When I print the same picture using iPhoto there is no problem. Any suggestions?

What is the resolution of the picture that you are trying to print?
Go to Image>resize>image size, read the resolution in px/in, then report back, please.
Also, are you in a position to try printing with another printer in an attempt to narrow this down?

Hi, I have problems in ordering book from iPhoto. It says "problems in getting contact with Apple Online Store" I have changed password on my Apple ID - could that be the problem ??

Some additional efforts you can try:
Go to the System/Sharing preference pane and make sure Remote Apple Events is checked.
If it is, uncheck it and then recheck and try ordering again.

iPhoto 08 contact print problems - after 5 images. prints pt a screenshot

Okay - So, I teach photography and have my students print contact sheets from iPhoto version 08.  I have one student (out of forty) having the following problem (I have removed preferences, reinstalled iPhoto, used the iPhoto updater for 7.1.5, reloading the printer driver and upgrading the system software to 10.6.8 {I teach in a high school, so no funds for newer software})
The problem is isolated to one student - the others on the same machine do NOT have the same problem.  When this student selects more than 5 images, the resulting output looks as if he has taken a screen shot - the palettes on the left of the frame show and the titles he has inserted (using Batch Change) are moved on to the pictures.
At this point, I am going to let him screenshot his submissions, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
    Thanks!

Hello congratulations for the work you have been developing. The apple support has helped me greatly improve my Mac and better understand some applications. Recently my iPhoto has given me problems and I do not realize what is happening. When I double click a photo it does not appear ... or rather the background is black and only the zoom window appears. How to solve this? I've done a restoration of the library, but the problem remains. Thanks and good job.

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • IPhoto - MobileMe gallery subscription - problem with password-protected

I am having a peculiar problem with subscribed galleries from MobileMe in iPhoto 08 and iPhoto 09. For galleries that have password-protection enabled, the full URL of the gallery subscription feed is pulled through as the Subscription title instead of the gallery title.
    For example "http://gallery.e.com/ACCOUNT-NAME/XXXXXX/?webdav-method-truthget&depth=infinit y&feedfmt=atom....
This doesn't occur for public MobileMe galleries. The title of the gallery comes across and the URL of the subscription is hidden.
Anyone having similar problems? Local Genius Bar couldn't help and assumed it was just a bug, but it doesn't seem to be typical of Apple.
As an aside, it would also be nice to have these feed subscriptions behave similarly to the way RSS subscriptions work in Mail, with the ability to select how often the feed is queried and indicate the number of new items. This would alert users of changes to feeds.
    Joe

Upon further research, it appears that this problem occurs when publishing from either iPhoto or Aperture to MobileMe. The problem seems to be when a gallery is published and one chooses not to have the gallery appear on the main gallery page (hidden). It seems to have nothing to do with whether or not one protects the gallery with a password.
So, Apple, if you are listening, can you provide any information on how to have the title of the gallery come through when subscribing using iPhoto while at the same time not listing the gallery on the main MobileMe gallery page? This seems to be a fixable bug.

  • IPhoto Time/Date Change problem

There is one particular event in my iPhoto program that registered the wrong date when downloaded.  In trying to change it, the program automatically sets the date about 130 years earlier, regardless of what date I type in.  It only happens with this one file.  I have had to change others and they have worked fine.  Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?  After repeated attempts, I'm back to the 1600s!

How are you trying to change the date? iPhoto has two methods - "Photos > Adjust Date and Time" and "Photos > Batch Change > Set Date and Time".
If you not yet have tried "Batch Change", try if that will help, if you use the option "Modify Original File".
Only "Batch Change" will set all selected photos to the same date and time, with an optional increment. So you to correct the images in groups of photos taken at the same time.

  • IPhoto Book Sign In Problems

I've been trying to buy a photo book and I get to the sign in page for the check out but after I put in my ID and password it just goes back to the sign in page. I have everything on my computer up to date, and have changed my password and shipping details.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Go to the online store account section
and reenter all of your account information, i.e. erase each field and reenter your information.  Make sure 1 click purchasing is activated.  Then try try again.
NOTE:  be sure to make a PFD preview of your book before ordering to check or any errors (typos are my biggest headache) and to have something to compare to the hard copy when you recieve it.  How to is described here: iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it

  • IPhoto/Apple TV sync problem

Since upgrading to iTunes 9.1 and 8.1.2 my iPhoto pics no longer sync with Apple TV. I've disconnected the library and set up new connection. No luck. I'm looking for suggestions and help.

Download and install the iPhoto 9.4.1 update, which was just released today. It may be the answer to your problems:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1598
Be sure that neither iTunes nor iPhoto is running when you install the iPhoto 9.4.1 update. After installing the update, then restart iTunes and iPhoto. By default, "All photos" is selected. Change this (it's no longer grayed out) to "Selected albums..." and you should be OK.

  • IPhoto '11 referenced library problems

I have a huge iPhoto library containing 40 000+ images, as well as a large amount of metadata (comments, Faces,...). Since I need to read-access the image files with other software, I use a referenced library.
Everything was fine until the day I decided to upgrade for a larger HD. So I simply restored full content of my old drive on the new drive using a TimeMachine backup. Nothing else was modified (no directory structure changes, not even the volume name).
Since then, the problems. Essentially, references to the original files are lost: Thumbnails are OK, but upon accessing the larger view, iPhoto asks me to locate the file... After having done so, other pics would load nice, but nothing would stick upon a quit and relaunch of iPhoto... (Funnily, this happens only for pics that were imported *after* I upgraded from iPhoto '08 to iPhoto '11).
I tried many things: rebuilding the database, rebuilding the database on the older drive prior to backup, etc... Nothing would help.
    So, my questions:
    * Whad did I do wrong?
    * Is there a way to "repair" file references? (That should be a fairly obvious functionality of database rebuilding)
    * Is hacking into the Library.apdb file part of the officially supported solutions?
Obviously, recreating a new iPhoto library is not an option for me, due to the amount of metadata in my library that I don't know how to transfer. Also, I don't consider upgrading to Aperture, which is just too complex and loaded of features which are totally useless to me.
Running Lion and latest iPhoto update.
    Thanks!

    YES!!!
I finally managed to recover my iPhoto library!
But it was not easy. I had to hack into the database file to put up things right.
After a significant amount of trial-and-error, here is the procedure I came to, which finally worked for me (use at your own risk):
    0. Make sure you make enough backups so as to revert to the previous state if something goes wrong!
    1. Make a copy of your iPhoto Library [Show Package Contents]/Database/apdb/Library.apdb to your desktop.
This file contains most of the data involved for managing your iPhoto data.
    2. Open this file using a SQLite database manager.
I used Navicat 9.1, which has nice import-export features. For direct editing, Base 2.0 is may be easier.
    3. Open the table RKMaster.
This table contains all records for the individual pics of your library.
    4. Correct the path of each of your pic files in the imagePath column to their current filepath.
This contains the path of your pic files at the time they were imported, and is not updated by iPhoto even though you have moved your pic files somewhere else.
If you have several thousands of paths to correct, a good idea is to export this column to a text file (also including the modelId column for referencing), and to correct paths using the substring Search&Replace function of your favorite text editor. Be sure to re-import the corrected data properly using the modelId column as references.
    5. If needed, correct in the same manner the content of the fileVolumeUuid column to the value of the drive currently containing your picfiles.
If needed, obtain this value considering a pic which was recently imported from that drive.
    6. If your drive name was modified, also correct its name in the name column of the RKVolume table.
Identify the proper record by considering its uuid previously obtained.
    7. If you're happy with your work, quit the database managing program and put Library.apdb back in its original location inside your iPhoto Library.
Keep the older somewhere in case something goes wrong.
    8. Run iPhoto to see if your work is successful!
At this point, you might consider rebuilding the Photo Library (hold alt-cmd while launching iPhoto) and choose Repair the iPhoto Library Database (Be sure to leave the Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup unchecked!). This might correct some possible unconsistencies resulting from your edits. Also, a good thing might be to rebuild all thumbnails. If iPhoto does not bug you for locating files during that process, you have possibly done your work right! If not, back to step 1.
As said, this worked for me, with no visible inconsistencies or side effects to be noticed in the behavior of iPhoto (at least for now). But possibly some knowledgable people might comment and improve that process, and some database script guru might also help automating this. Please comment.
Lessons learned (How I understand the things as far as I know):
    A. Library.apdb stores the initial drive and path of the pic files at the time they were imported. This is not modified as the files are moved around.
    B. Some other data (BLOBs?) is used to track the files at their actual location. Therefore, it seems OK to move the pic files after they were imported.
    C. Unfortunately, this other data is broken if the file is recreated (even with same content and location), for example with a file-based backup and restore (Time Machine).
    D. In that case, iPhoto is unable to recover the file if its current drive and path does not match the one when the file was imported, stored in the database. Also there is no mechanism in iPhoto to correct this data.
    E. Therefore, it is very important to import pic files in iPhoto only when these are already in their final location! If not, your iPhoto Library won't survive a TimeMachine backup and restore! (Possibly, a block-based drive backup could work... I don't know).
    F. ...And Apple should really, really fix this issue! (By correcting the stored filepath and drive to the current file location at least when the database is repaired, and by offering at least some basic file reconnection options).
    Hope this helps...

  • IPhoto  + Mobiles accounts = Huge Problems - Please Help!

I administer an Apple XServe on a primary school with leopard fully updated.
We have about 20 macbook laptops which login using the wireless network and a number of hard wired iMacs.
Five of those laptops are being used by teachers who want to take their laptops at home. So I have created mobile accounts for them. But since I've done that we've been having endless problems with syncing!
I have configured them to sync every 10minutes and also during login and logout.
Even if they have synced already the login/logout times are extremely long and during syncing iPhoto keeps duplicating it's libraries!!!
I have tried to completely remove the network accounts and do them from scratch but eventually the problems come up.
I am not thinking to completely disable the mobile accounts, create a local account for them and ask them to use USB sticks to transfer files to their network directories!
Any experts on mobile accounts please help!

I just do sync ONLY at log out (as all other times the process is toooo slow and gets in the way and the process is always painfully slow(that's why I leave the building) - the only time I do a sync at log in, is when I have been using my laptop over the weekend for example and I need changes on desktop. That is not a fun Monday morning as its - 1. log out laptop (wait ages for checking - sync the few small changes I made) 2. log in desktop (wait ages for checking - sync the few small changes I made) - sometimes it would be better to use a USB stick !
I also noted that the iPhoto library checking is slow and if you ever open iPhoto and even if you do not do anything the entire library will sync again, I think this is due to it being a package, much like iCal backup files (they are a mega pain)
getting right what you do and do not sync is an art in itself, but I need to sync iPhoto library however I am very careful and only open iPhoto now when I need to.
I continue to be amazed at how slow checking is, I am sure this should be super fast (I heard it was in 10.4)
anyway im over to Snow Leopard this week I wonder if it will be any better

  • IPhoto 6 video compatability problems

    Hi there
I've just bought a Samsung i85 digital camera that I chose because of its rather decent movie mode for the money....problem is that the videos import into iPhoto 6 but they show as black thumbnails (although audio works correctly), and when double clicked, Quicktime opens as usual but shows a 'needs component to play' message
    - this is very strange because the video format is an AVI movie file, and at a width of 800 pixels, and nothing in the 'get info' panel indicates anything unusual. It must be noted that the video works FINE on QT on the family windows pc...grrrrr!!
any ideas what I can do? I've tried using mpeg converter to change the file type but this doesn't help either. Also the components page on QT just lists the Xvid add-on which as far as i can see, is of no help, and doesn't have a mac version anyhow
please help...I have a lot of quality videos i'd really like to see on a screen bigger than my camera!
    many thanks
    Robbie

    Have you tried installing Perian?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IPhoto 6 menu language problem

Recently my iPhoto 6 menu started appearing in German.
I don't know how or why this has changed from English and cannot change it back.
All other menus on my MacBook appear correctly in English.
I have tried System Preferences > Language and have removed all foreign languages but this has not made any difference.
I have also reinstalled iPhoto 6 from the original disk, again this has made no difference.
Has anyone got any ideas how I can solve this problem.

A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • IPhoto 6.0.6 problems

My iphoto library constantly deletes, but is still there in the iphoto folder. Why is this and how can I prevent this? Also, some of my pictures will not show on Preview, the Library, or they won't let me upload them anywhere online. It says: "Couldn’t open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize." There is also a big yellow exclimation point next to this warning...the pictures just worked a few hours before! How do I fix this?

    ladyjt:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You are emptying the iPhoto trash bin via the iPhoto->Empty Trash menu option, right?
How you are you opening the photos with the Preview application? Or are you referring to the window you get when you double click on a thumbnail? That would be the Edit window.
Did you have any interruption or crash recently while iPhoto was open?
You can try rebuilding the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options. Also delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and then launch iPhoto and see if there's any improvement.
    Do you Twango?

  • Converting library from iPhoto 5 to 6 problems

OK, I converted my library through the network, while it was on my iPhoto 5 comp...So here's the deal:
PowerBook G4 (iPhoto 5): An unreadable iPhoto library (it says I have to upgrade to iPhoto 6)
iMac C2D (iPhoto 6): Readable library, but all of my albums/rolls are not saved.
This all happened after I opened my PowerBook's library from my iMac. Ahhh!
There must be a way to manually create a new library...Maybe delete some storage files and have iPhoto rebuild them? I am clueless.
Also, I am clueless to as how iPhoto's file sstem works (originals, modified, pictures, 2005, 2006, etc).
    Thanks.

    Andrew
    1. [i>PowerBook G4 (iPhoto 5): An unreadable iPhoto library (it says I have to upgrade to iPhoto 6)
Yes, the v6 library is not readable by an earlier version. There is no cure for this unless you rebuild your v5 library from scratch, using v5.
    2. iMac C2D (iPhoto 6): Readable library, but all of my albums/rolls are not saved.
Where did this library come from?
This all happened after I opened my PowerBook's library from my iMac. Ahhh!
Guess you figured out the problem there, then.
To rebuild a version 6 library: Move the iPhoto Library Folder from Home/Pictures to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find there the Originals folder. From there drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
A Note about the iPhoto Library Folder:
In this folder there are various files, which are the Library itself and some ancillary files. Then you have three folders
Originals are the photos as they were downloaded from your camera or scanner.
(ii) Modified contains edited pics, shots that you have cropped, rotated or changed in any way.
This allows the Photos -> Revert to Original command - very useful if you don't like the changes you've made.
(iii) Data holds the thumbnails the the app needs to show you the photos in the iPhoto Window.
When upgrading, many people are afraid that they will not be able to find a desired photo in the new structure: There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Finally: It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss
Happy Christmas*, Xmas*, Holidays*, Hannukah* or Monday* to you.
